Wikipedia must think we have a slow news day.
[Embedded content]
They are reporting about a ship commissioning.
It’s a fairly standard item, PLL. Because Wikipedia has a page for every nuclear submarine the US Navy has ever fielded, it tends to note the days on which such ships are commissioned, as those dates are incorporated into the sub’s page.
re: #3 Dark_Falcon
I know they have pages on each ship.
However, I don’t recall a ship commissioning appearing on the current events section before.
re: #4 The War TARDIS
My brother is a plankholder on a fast attack sub so I’d have some familiarity with this kind of craft. A plankholder is the first group of crew who take the ship out on its trials. I was actually invited to the ceremony, but I could not make it. Nevertheless, I know exactly which sub it was.

That’s been part of American political reality for longer than you’ve been alive, Varek. Best to just accept it and then enjoy the Christie / Trump dogfight.
I would say that WTF is an appropriate reaction, but not one that is unexpected. It is simply the manifestation of where power has always been in selecting who going to a candidate. In the past, the leaders of the various parties made their selections in backrooom deals; now we are seeing that played out in the open.

re: #43 Iwouldprefernotto
Well, they can’t always get what they want. Instead of a clear and simple primary season, they got the sideshow circus with at least 17 candidates, with a bunch polling within the margin of error. Rather than a sign of strength, it indicates such a lack of faith in any of the “big” names that everyone decided to jump in, diluting the pool further.
At the same time, they’re all running with the same basic plan: repeal ACA, attack and destroy PP for carrying out abortions (which are legal) and for facilitating donations of fetal tissue for research/medical purposes (again legal), attack women’s health care, attack the safety net, care not a whit about what happens to anyone who is not a fetus in the womb, and seek to rejigger the tax code so that it further favors the wealthy and shifts the tax burdens on to everyone else.
Trump has managed to take control of the conversation by being the most brash, racist, and jingoistic of the bunch (for the moment). It’s now a race to see who can say the most idiotic thing to get the GOP base (which have become increasingly extreme right wing as the past 8 years has shown) to consider them over the other extremists who are running.
Cruz may figure that he’s got the support of rank and file GOPers and a bunch in the House, so that he can go full metal wingnut without repercussions. The threat alone shows just how lacking he is in character and judgment.
More to the point, consider if he were President and a Democrat in Congress threatened to do what he’s doing now. Cruz would be calling for impeachment of that Democrat and throwing the book at him - or claiming it is somehow unconstitutional or violative of his oath of office.

What about the other officers in the background who did nothing to stop this? No reprimands? No retraining? Nothing?
The problems with law enforcement treating suspects and those who are stopped without a shred of respect run deep and goes to the culture of law enforcement. We have to change that culture, and it starts with zero tolerance for malfeasance like this.
Consider it the broken windows fix for law enforcement. Minor violations indicate likely systemic violations and problems with the culture at a police department.
You don’t automagically end up with a Ferguson or Cleveland or Cincinnati. It takes years of a law enforcement culture that doesn’t respect those it pulls over, and sees a minority community in the worst possible light by initiating a shoot first ask no questions later.
And it has to change.
Justice demands it.

I thought K2 was banned long ago. I’ve never used Spice, but it used to be made with JWH-018, which I’ve experienced. It was just like incredibly powerful pot. No loss of sensation, delusions, or super-powers. They may be making it with something else now since all the JWH chems are banned.
Of course this stuff has little in common with pot, so “weaponized weed” is just silly.

The only thing I can think of anywhere near what this bullshit artist is saying is if someone was lacing the weed with something like PCP. They’re making it out to be some literal Jekyl & Hyde super strength serum or something.

I don’t think anyone even makes PCP anymore. There’s 5-MEO-PCP available, but that doesn’t cause rampages. It’s similar to Ketamine.

I have a friend that was messing with that crap thinking he could get away with getting a little buzz while looking for a job and being able to pass a piss test.
After a few months he was using it more and more and running around town looking for it as it was starting to become harder to find. That meant he was starting to get a bit addicted to it. And the more he smoked, the stranger the buzz.
Thankfully once it got almost impossible to find, he managed to get himself weened from it.
Strange stuff. Just legalize pot and be done with it. It might even cut back on people getting drunk and driving and people searching for synthetic heroin/morphine pharmaceuticals. Might even help cut back on the meth heads…or at least chill them out.

I’m far from being a theologian but, I did read both the old and new Testaments, with concordances, before I became a Buddhist. I believe that, over time, some Christian religions went from believing that you are made in the image of God and are therefore perfectible to insisting that everyone comes into the world burdened with sin and bound to heap on more sins. Trump would only say that he has a plan for “winning” in the Middle East that involved “taking back the oil” and “bombing the hell out of them.” Such answers, O’Reilly said, wouldn’t suffice on Thursday.

HATTIESBURG, MS (WRDW) — National Guard officials say shots have been fired for a second consecutive day near a military facility in southern Mississippi, but no injuries are reported.Lt. Col. Christian Patterson says that at about 8 a.m. Wednesday, soldiers training at the Camp Shelby Joint Forces Training Center reported shots fired into the air. […]
The state Republican Party also points to an email it received under Illinois public records laws in which Duckworth acknowledged that she “screwed up” by not first placing the fiscal officer on leave with pay.Leaders of Duckworth’s campaign declined comment, citing the pending legal dispute. But Matt McGrath, an Illinois Democratic Party spokesman, said Kirk’s supporters are exaggerating what he termed a workplace disagreement. He called the GOP focus on the suit “the politics of desperation.”
“Every time Mark Kirk’s campaign hits a bump in the road … he and his Republican allies start talking about this case again,” he said.
