Trump Campaign Manager Responds to “White Power” Shouts at Rally: “People Like Our Message”

What? White supremacists? Where? I don’t see any white supremacists.

By now it’s very clear that Donald Trump is consciously tailoring his campaign rhetoric to appeal to the disconcertingly large number of far right xenophobic nationalists among the Republican voting base.

It’s telling that when asked on CNN about shouts of “white power” at Trump’s rally in Alabama, his campaign manager couldn’t muster up a single word of disapproval for the white supremacists; he just ignored the whole issue and praised Trump’s supporters as people who “want to be proud of being Americans.”

White Americans, he didn’t add. Because he didn’t have to; it’s obvious.

Self-styled “white nationalists” from all over the far-right spectrum have been drawn to Trump’s hardline immigration stance this election cycle. CNN’s Jim Acosta asked Trump’s campaign manager, Corey Lewandowski, about reports that a man yelled “white power” multiple times Friday at the rally in Mobile, Alabama:

“I don’t know about the individual you’re talking about in Alabama,” Lewandowski said on “State of the Union.” “I know there were 30-plus thousand people in that stadium. They were very receptive to the message of ‘making America great again’ because they want to be proud to be Americans again.”

What, specifically, prevents these people from being proud of America today?

He’s going to string these ‘white power’ assholes along until one of them commits a crime far worse than what happened in Southie last week.

And then they’ll all play innocent about it. This is dynamite he’s playing with here. These fucking racist numbsklls are thinking it’ll be open season on non-whites if Trump becomes president - and Trump has done not a single thing to disabuse them of that idea.

About that “400 Year Old” recipe, which I found in a cookbook crediting my grandmother’s sister, it uses COMMERCIAL YEAST which has only been available in the past 100 years.

Prior to that people used a sourdough starter.

re: #89 Romantic Heretic

Probably related to the New Constitution Party (Used donotlink) that has appeared here in Canada. They have an office right around the corner from me.

They claim to be “an all-inclusive federal party based on Libertarian doctrine, Christian values, and National Socialist ideology.”

Um, Libertarian doctrine is that no one has authority over the individual, especially the State. Christian values is based on Christ’s love. National Socialist ideology founded one of the most hate filled and powerful States in history.

Just goes to show how, um, flexible the wingnuts mind is.

From what I have been able to find, it’s apparently related to the South African National Party (whites only).

As I said in the thread downstairs. Trump’s blaming of “the other” for all of our problems sounds eerily like a certain leader of a certain country in the 1930’s and his followers are starting to sound a lot like that leader’s followers. It’s. Fucking. Scary.

he’s also following the technique of making “reasonable” statements, which his followers then interpret as the right to beat and kill all of the ‘other’

Must be nice to have connections:

Saving everyone a click because it’s short:

Chief Justice John G. Roberts, Jr., on Monday afternoon temporarily blocked the imprisonment of former Virginia Governor Robert F. McDonnell until the Supreme Court can consider further his plea to remain free while he appeals his corruption conviction. The Chief Justice’s order is here.

The Justice Department was told to file its views on McDonnell’s plea by 4 p.m. on Wednesday. A federal appeals court ruling upholding his conviction will be on hold until after there is further action either by the Chief Justice or by the full Court.

The federal government opposed the governor’s bid to remain out of prison when he pursued that request in lower courts, and it is expected to do so again.

McDonnell’s attorneys are planning to file an appeal of his conviction, but that has not yet been filed. And, in any event, the Court would not act on that appeal until it returns for its new Term this fall. He seeks to remain free until the Supreme Court takes final action on his appeal.

Does anyone get the feeling that The Donald may not make much of a move to stop his passionate message receivers from getting a little too crazy and attacking people of color?

Yes, I mean he could very well be making the considered decision to not stop it on purpose. If Trump has the ego I think he has, he might actually revel in the power something he says can actually cause people to go out and take matters in their own hands.

He may well think it a part of being “powerful” at motivating. He may also think it is not wrong as he isn’t doing it himself.

“Hey, people get a little revved up on my words and do dumb stuff. I can’t control that.”

I don’t think Trump does anything that isn’t thought out. The fact there is no real reaction to the Boston brothers and the White Power chanters in Alabama says to me don’t expect him to stop it. He may get a kick out of it. Literally.

Finally, in my 50s, I have become very careful about slathering every bit of skin that will be exposed to the sun when I head out for a ride. That includes a big dollop on the top of my head.

I shave my head, and learned the hard way that even wearing a doo-rag under my helmet wasn’t enough. I ended up with a “leopard print” pattern tan from the holes in the helmet. :)

The amazing thing is, the minimum wage is SO LOW that you have to wonder what kind of entrepreneurship is so unprofitable that it needs to spend LESS on labor. And if it needs to pay so poorly, doesn’t that just mean it’s a bad business?

according to wingnuts, most businesses run on razor thin margins and make such an anemic profit that any rise in the minimum wage will force them to fire everybody

Not really that much of a problem for me, sadly. Just enough left that I can say I’m baldING, instead of just bald.

Last week the hair on the last of the bald spots (alopecia areata barba) that started developing on my beard in February finally grew back in. The dermatologist gave me an acne medication, with a bit of help I suspect from the placebo effect, did the trick. I hated going without a beard for all those months. And nobody but me liked my Gene Hackman-inspired moustache.

Just in case the danger of Trump’s pandering is lost on anyone, here’s a list of active neo-Nazi groups in the US. They’re listed state-by-state, with some being local chapters of national groups. There is a total of 142 as of March 2015. The states with the highest number of neo-Nazi groups (7 each) are: Florida, New Jersey, Ohio, and Texas

Remember this is ONLY one type of hate group.

The SPLC Hate Map lists a total of 784 active hate groups. A couple of other stats:

State with the highest number of hate groups: California (57)
Total number of Ku Klux Klan groups in 2014: 72

There’s a Google Map at the link that shows the location of all the groups. Speaking of hate maps, here’s one showing the Confederate battle flag rallies since Charleston:

Video

Last but not least, as I work my way through the book I’ve been reading on white nationalism, I had to create a mind map to try to follow things because the groups are so numerous and interconnected—here’s a small export of what it looks like:

The blue node on the left is individuals, the one on the right is groups. The green nodes represent a single individual/group, and (with a couple of exceptions that need to be moved) the yellow ones represent publications or web sites. The red arrows are connections between individuals and/or groups.

I’m only on page 110 of a 684-page book. Let that sink in for a minute.

Gawker’s lawyers are asking to recover their legal costs.

Precisely in order to prevent litigants from inflicting damage through the litigation process itself, the statute provides for prompt dismissal with prejudice of claims such as these and requires recovery by defendants of their attorneys’ fees and costs.

This is really going to hurt Chuck. Gawker’s law firms are top-flight, VERY expensive firms and they obviously spent quite a few hours on these filings. He’s in deep deep do-do.

Plaintiffs’ provocative journalism has in turn attracted an avalanche of criticism, both with respect to the quality of his reporting and his character, long before the first Gawker piece was published. For example, in August 2014 The Clarion Ledger described Johnson as “a cowardly little man who makes hollow threats, baseless claims and wild accusations,” and criticized him for a series of Tweets judging James Foley, the American journalist held captive for nearly two years and then beheaded by ISIS. Sam Hall, Charles Johnson reaches new low

UPDATE: Charles C. Johnson called. He remarked, “We’re filing within the hour. We’re suing the Gawker employees individually as well as Gawker Media. J.K. Trotter, Greg Howard, Erin Gloria Ryan, and Adam Weinstein. Those are the ones we are for sure suing. That list may expand. We’re also planning on suing @LittleGreenFootballs and Politico. I wish that it hadn’t come to this, but unfortunately these people have removed my right to defend myself on Twitter, so now I have to use the court to defend my reputation. On the whole, it’s nice to team up with Hulk Hogan and his people should call my people. I confess to walking around the house going watchagonnado brother? It’s going to be a lot of fun. We’re suing them first in Missouri and then in Fresno. I think it will change a lot of the calculation for the whole media once we start suing the reporters individually. …If I can be the straw that breaks Gawker’s back, I’m quite pleased. By the way we’re also suing CNN and Carol Costello for saying I wanted to assassinate DeRay McKesson.”

Yeah, UpChuck has a really smart lawyer…

re: #260 Charles Johnson

I’ve just skimmed the motions, and have never practiced in the federal courts in Missouri, but my guess is that if the court dismisses, it’d be due to a lack of jurisdiction. Or more likely, it will transfer the case to a court of competent jurisdiction and let them deal with it. If it gets transferred, it’d probably get transferred to New York since that’s where the defendants are located.

Also, keep in mind that Courts are wary of dismissing lawsuits this early in the process, particularly under Rule 12(b). The way the rules work, the “well pleaded” facts of the complaint are taken as true, and the defendant has to show that the facts as stated do not amount to a cause of action. Even if it is granted, the Court may grant leave to amend.

The Anti-SLAPP motion is a bit different. I’ve not dealt with too many of those in my career. But I’m not quite sure the motion has established enough to say that California law should apply here. Of course, if the Court decides to transfer, they’ll likely punt on this question too.

Yeah, I suspect they’ll transfer to either California or New York. The case they laid out for dismissal seems pretty tight to me, but I ain’t no lawyer.

However, there’s really no doubt that in the end, Chuck’s going to get body-slammed. This suit is just obviously frivolous.

re: #305 Charles Johnson

it’s a lot easier for a court of appeal to over turn a motion to dismiss than it is for them to over turn a motion for summary judgment. that’s because a motion to dismiss (or in California state court a demurrer) is based on the pleadings and a motion for summary judgment (or adjudication) is based on proffered evidence. the standard of review for a motion to dismiss is de novo - which means the appellate court can apply its own sensibilities and consider everything; for a motion for summary judgment it’s typically abuse of discretion - which generally means the trial judge went off the rails.

basically, to lose on a motion to dismiss and not get a second chance, you have to have screwed up big time.

The statements by Trotter and Howard about rumors that Johnson defecated on a floor and committed bestiality as a minor are not reasonably capable of a defamatory meaning, and are protected by the First Amendment, for either of two reasons. See MTD at 12-13. First, the tenor of the articles as a whole make clear that they are tongue-in-cheek efforts to poke fun at Johnson’s expense and do not purport to assert these rumors as fact. It is well-established that attempts at satirical humor, whether deemed to be in good taste or not, are not actionable defamation.

Just about the entire filing is one backhand after another.

It’s clear that Gawker’s legal team does not like Chucky. They took pretty much every opportunity they got to swipe at him.

I think they really enjoyed writing this section:

Second, even if the Howard and second Trotter articles could be construed literally, they merely raise the question whether the rumors about Plaintiff are true. Both the headlines and the articles themselves are expressly framed as questions. Siegel Decl., Ex. 22 (Which of These Disgusting Chuck Johnson Rumors Are True?) (“So maybe you’re wondering: Which of those rumors are real?”); id., Ex. 17 (Wait, Did Clowntroll Blogger Chuck Johnson Shit On The Floor Case: 4:15-cv-01137-CAS Doc. #: 22 Filed: 08/24/15 Page: 13 of 16 PageID #: 474 14 One Time?) (“And so I ask you, dearest readers: Did Chuck Johnson really shit on the floor in college?”). It is well-settled that questions are likewise not actionable defamation.

ISNA put out a statement on women at Mosques:

We, the undersigned Muslim scholars, leaders, organizations and concerned Muslims, voice our strong commitment to uphold and realize the Prophetic ideal of masjids being open and inclusive of women. Striving to realize the Prophetic model, we call upon all masjids to ensure that (1) women are welcomed as an integral part of masjids and encouraged to attend, (2) women have a prayer space in the main musalla which is behind the lines of men but not behind a full barrier that disconnects women from the main musalla and prevents them from seeing the imam; and (3) women actively participate in the decision-making process of the masjid, best realized by having women on the governing bodies of masjids.

This will piss off the Wahhabis.

I also saw the story of the British Radical on Ashley Madison. I know what he thinks the punishment for adultery is. I think he needs to do that punishment to himself, help reduce the amount of Islamism on the planet.

Handicapping the primary:
Trump - He embodies the id of the party whose members are worked up, so he’s got a real chance.
Rubio - Somewhat intelligent, occasionally lucid, just crazy enough. Handsome. My money’s here.
Jeb - He’s got money and influential backers, but a dolt best suited to be Jr High Vice Principal.
Carson - Great story and suitably crazy, but neophyte is here to serve as the “Derbyshire black friend.”
Walker - Dumb boring weasel errand boy. So VP.
Cruz - Too crazy somehow. Also, unappealing face, voice, person.
Kaisich - “Moderate” by RWNJ measure, and doesn’t seem too into it. Swing state VP.
Christie - Trump is sucking up all the bully oxygen now, but wouldn’t rule out a late push.
Paul - This guy? no. fucking. way.
