Charles, I noticed that, in a popup that contains private or spoiler, expanding the content can cause the content, and subsequently the dialog, to extend below the bottom of the display. This has to do with the fact that the initial dialog position is based on the contents at that time, and the dialog position doesn’t change when you expand the contents. For example, click the reveal button in this:

I used to read Ace back when Charles was still a member of the right-wing blogosphere. It was Charles’s public break with the right - and Ace’s reaction to it - that drove me away. I don’t really disagree but Sam Bee and John Oliver have the advantage of being able to use an entire week to produce a single half hour of content. They also get to focus on a single issue and explore it in depth. Noah has to produce four shows a week and hit multiple topics each day that often pop up with short notice and is expected to conduct interviews on top of that. He’s been given a much harder job and was tasked with filling impossibly large shoes.

Huh, Ace was one of the blogs that I read fairly regularly when I was blogging and in law school. I haven’t read him in a very long time, so I clicked over to see what all the hubbub is about. Reading through a couple of posts, I’m not sure much is changing - other than being anti-Trump. He refers to Islamic terrorists as Obama’s “cousins” and takes plenty of opportunities to bash Muslims for being Muslims and Belgium for not being assholes to Muslims. I wonder if any one on the conservative reactionary side of the blogsphere realize that all of this ties together? Probably not, because that would mean taking a moment to engage in self-reflection and that’s not something reactionaries are very good at doing. It’s one of the ways in which they are similar to revolutionaries on the other side of the spectrum.

As a general rule, I don’t answer calls if I don’t recognize the number. So I never have this problem. Broadcasting sedition on the Armed Forces Radio. What could possibly go wrong?
There is an assumption that soldiers are conservative. I have found that wrong since lurking here. But I just met with a former student a couple of weeks ago for lunch who was injured on his second tour in Afghanistan (he was a veteran as a student, so he came injured). I had him in three classes and he was very even. At lunch he started in on how “Obama hates the troops”; “you’ll see, Bergdahl (sp?) will be pardoned”; and then Benghazi when I changed the subject back to his personal life and he calmed down.
Was he always like this or has he become politicized since graduation? I don’t know. I think the latter. As a student he told me that he quit going to the Veterans’ lounge on campus because it was too political. But who knows.
Anyway, I guess the takeaway for me, as one who never served, is that you can’t make assumptions based on military service. And I have to continue to treat veterans in my classes as students and not veterans, except in certain circumstances when it is for the benefit of the class.

Both the shop owners where I work are conservative, one more so than the other, and he was listening to Hannity and the rest of the RW talk shows all day. All I can say is that if you were to listen to it and start to believe it as truth, you would hate the President, Democrats, Progressives, Atheists and anybody else that didn’t fit the RW definition of ‘good’ and ‘American’.
It’s a constant barrage of the most vile accusations, 1/2 truths (at best), worn out talking points and complete and utter contempt for any view not their own. I can’t imagine the cumulative effect of listening to that bilge day in / day out.
I recall reading a piece, that in the 1960’s the average quote from a politician was something like 2.5 minutes long. Now it’s on the order of <10 seconds. I’m sorry, if it fits on a bumper sticker, it’s a slogan, not a solution.

Hey everyone. The tide is turning. Bernie won 9 delegates from voters living overseas!
A. Whole. 9. Delegates! Hillary should just drop out.
Looks like any returns tonight are gonna be real real late for the Eastcoasters. Check it out in the AM. Later…

The color of the uniform needs to be changed to get rid on the rust-red. German army and SS ‘Class A-type’ dress uniforms of the period were a gray called ‘Feldgrau’.
The insignia on the collar should be changed to SS sigrunen.
And lastly: The Knight’s Cross on the collar is a major oversight. Nazi Germany did not award that medal lightly and no REMF like Herr Trump would have been awarded it.

They had their heads in the sand.
Michael Moore will tell us shortly why Hillary’s victory in AZ is irrelevant.
On 538, Nate Silver said (about the Trump tweet about Heidi Cruz):
Harry, instead of a gutter campaign, I see a slightly different theme than you do. And the theme is that Trump is someone who lives by making threats. He not only threatens other candidates — he threatens protesters, threatens donors, threatens the media and threatens the Republican Party. Considering how much he’s gotten his way, it seems to be effective. Politics apparently isn’t a field that attracts people who have a lot of backbone.

Yep, he’ll likely win Idaho and Utah tonight, which are both open/semi-open caucuses, proving he cannot win unless it’s in a vote which represents less than 10% of the total state voter pool.

I’m watching the coverage on CNN tonight, and they seem to regard the long lines in Arizona, Idaho and Utah as kind of cute, instead of something that’s pretty much an outrage in a democratic country.

Hillary supporters are not those that the MSM seeks out for interviews, so it assumes that there is zero enthusiasm for her. It reminds me of the 2012 election. While Romney and his buddies were selling the meme that “Americans were fed up with Obama,” we were just watching their feeble antics from the sidelines and waiting to vote. While Romney’s supporters had to reconfigure polls to show support for him, we already knew that the polls, in general, were accurate and Romney would have to cancel his fireworks in Boston. Some of us deal in reality, others in fantasy.

Ayep, two of the things I remember was often factored into any “unskewed poll” were A) that the “enthusiasm” for the President was down from ‘08 and demographics would be closer to 2010, and B) that Romney’s support was being undersold because there were millions who were secretly on his side but were afraid to speak up for fear of the “PC crowd” attacking them for racism for their not supporting the black president. So you had this huge, fictional crowd that was ready to carry Willard to victory, supposedly represented by things like lawn signs or bumper stickers. And then, when that crowd never appeared and there was no “late break” in his favor, almost immediately the excuse-making began about how conservatives had all stayed home and that was why he lost.

Given the candidates your crowd has to choke down, I can see your point of view. You may care that the oyster you are swallowing appears to have met its demise many hours ago, but it’s unlikely you’re enthusiastic about this reality.
re: #229 teleskiguy
I know that there’s a lot of people in California. It’s just been a while since I’ve come across any numbers. I’ve spent most of my life in rural areas, numbers like 40 million jumping across my screen and I react. :)
I remember reading, a couple of years back, a study from the State of California recapping a number of previous studies (from the 1990s, IIRC) on the projected population growth for the State, and they realized that they had gotten it severely wrong. California hadn’t been projected to get as many as 40 million people until several more decades into the century. This affected most of the State’s forward planning for infrastructure and services, etc. with upshot that CA now has nearly 40 million folks living in a State that was only designed for (I think) 30 million.
Still a lot - I grew up in So Cal in the ’60s : the population was less than half of what it is today, and there was a lot of open space that’s been suburbanized over.

On the bright side, I think statistically you are safer in EU than you are in the US from gun violence.
According to the FBI, in 2012, there were 8,855 total firearm-related homicides in the US, with 6,371 of those attributed to handguns
Population of Western EU 2009: about 400 million
