So I’m up in the Sierra Foothills, visiting friends, getting out and hiking up around 9000’ (give or take 1000’.) No TV, no radio, limited internet (which is why I’m just doing a quick check in) and therefore not much news. As it turns out that is apparently a really great thing. Beautiful weather, amazing wildflowers, and tomorrow it’s back to the real world. I’m not sure I want to come back. Maybe the news will be better?

I turned on the beginning of Rush Limbaugh’s second hour today. I was curious to hear if he was discussing the convention. In the 5 minutes I could stand to hear, he didn’t mention the convention at all…but he DID mention both Reverend Wright and Louis Farrakhan.

The main downside I would see is the potential dietary issues, since they do do the cooking (guest ranch). The food was pretty amazing though. I needed the hiking to avoid gaining too much weight.

The hot springs were top notch, I can post photos when you’re back.

I remember preparing for a Century ride - man, was I nervous! Turns out, if you’re prepared, and you take it at your own pace, and make sure to stay hydrated and fed, it’s merely exhausting, not actually impossible.

I’m a little terrified, mostly excited. My biggest worry is the pace - you have to maintain a 16 mile/min pace in order to finish the course. I did 7 miles today at a 13:23 min pace, so it’s a matter of just working up my endurance at this level, I think. I’ve got six months to train.

(It’s Star Wars themed. It’s at Disneyland. I stood NO CHANCE especially since it was the Dark Side one at Disney World in April that first put the idea into my head of maybe doing one someday…)

I’m a little terrified, mostly excited. My biggest worry is the pace - you have to maintain a 16 mile/min pace in order to finish the course. I did 7 miles today at a 13:23 min pace, so it’s a matter of just working up my endurance at this level, I think. I’ve got six months to train.

(It’s Star Wars themed. It’s at Disneyland. I stood NO CHANCE especially since it was the Dark Side one at Disney World in April that first put the idea into my head of maybe doing one someday…)

I’m mostly aiming to finish and not worrying about personal time or anything like that. Just running is currently sufficient accomplishment.

I’m a fan of hal higdon’s programs. i dont pay for them. just whats in front of the paywalls is more than enough information. he has a 1/2 marathon novice1 and novice2
runner’s world also has a 10 week first timer and a 10 week beginner

if you more or less follow the programs and get most of the miles in, they all will get you through. - you have 6 months. that’s lots of time.

just run. run easy. and increase slowly. endurance and speed come along naturally.

you’ll cross the finish line before you know what happened. you’ll have the biggest grin ever

Thanks! I don’t know any runners locally and mr. klys doesn’t run (history of knee issues) so I am kind of making this work on my own. I will definitely look into those!
