On Donald Trump’s Insane, Frightening Comments About NATO

It’s getting truly scary now
Politics • Views: 45,244

If you needed any more evidence that Donald Trump is seriously unhinged and disconnected from the real world, his statements about NATO to the New York Times have to be some of the most bizarre things he’s said yet.

Trump is explicitly saying he won’t help NATO allies even if they are attacked by Russia, unless he feels they’re paying the United States enough: Donald Trump Sets Conditions for Defending NATO Allies Against Attack.

And he’ll make that evaluation only after a US ally is attacked.

CLEVELAND — Donald J. Trump, on the eve of accepting the Republican nomination for president, explicitly raised new questions on Wednesday about his commitment to automatically defending NATO allies if they are attacked, saying he would first look at their contributions to the alliance.

Asked about Russia’s threatening activities, which have unnerved the small Baltic States that are among the more recent entrants into NATO, Mr. Trump said that if Russia attacked them, he would decide whether to come to their aid only after reviewing if those nations have “fulfilled their obligations to us.”

“If they fulfill their obligations to us,” he added, “the answer is yes.”

Even John Bolton thinks Trump has gone off the rails.

“When an American leader says ‘I’ll look at what the situation is after the Russians attack,’ that is an open invitation to Vladimir Putin,” Bolton said.

“When he (Putin) reads this kind of statement, it’s an encouragement to him. We’re not deterring him, we’re in effect giving him a free hand. So I hope that whoever advised Mr. Trump on this rethinks it,” Bolton said.

Make no mistake; this statement from Trump is so far out of the norm, it’s truly frightening. He’s talking about subverting one of the most important trans-national defense agreements in history, and blithely bringing the world to the brink of nuclear war.

Lest you think that this is the NYT paraphrasing or taking his statements out of context, the Times provides a handy-dandy transcript of David Sanger’s interview with Trump.

As I posted in the overnight dead thread, Trump’s comments would have not only caused outrage in right wing circles demanding that the person saying them resign/step down/quit or seek impeachment if they were in office had Clinton or any Democrat said them. To wit:

TRUMP: I don’t know that we have a right to lecture. Just look about what’s happening with our country. How are we going to lecture when people are shooting our policemen in cold blood. How are we going to lecture when you see the riots and the horror going on in our own country. We have so many difficulties in our country right now that I don’t think we should be, and there may be a time when we can get much more aggressive on that subject, and it will be a wonderful thing to be more aggressive. We’re not in a position to be more aggressive. We have to fix our own mess.

A few right wingers are coming out to denounce this nonsense, especially in relation to the NATO discussion, but this should have been absolutely disqualifying.

Trump wants to throw away our historic alliances with key allies for what? To give Putin a completely unnecessary and unwarranted boost? Who even thinks like this in US policy circles

Blind Frog Belly White  Jul 21, 2016 • 11:20:34am

This is why I do not understand all the people who think Trump would make America stronger. It’s not just the NATO thing. He also basically denied American Exceptionalism with his statement that we’re in no position to criticize anyone else’s human rights policies. And he advocates pulling our troops from bases in other countries. And he praises dictators and strong men SPECIFICALLY for crushing dissent.

His view of how to make America safe and strong really DOES go back to ‘America First’, the idea that we need to pull back and hide behind the oceans. That didn’t work very well, did it? And that was BEFORE nuclear weapons, ICBMs and stateless terror organizations.

Before NATO, Europe was at war (mostly with itself) for a thousand years. Every inch of that continent is soaked in blood. NATO is the only reason it hasn’t happened in my lifetime.

Now a bunch of fucking assholes, whose vision covers maybe an 8º field of view and a six-month horizon, will toss that aside to win in November. If half a billion people have to die, they think that’s a fair price to teach gay people to stay in the closet, women not to have sex, or black people not to speak until spoken to.

Would it be paranoid to suggest that Putin is secretly supporting the Trump campaign, and that this support was great enough to have kept Trump from being kicked aside by Ted Cruz in the primaries?
We KNOW that Putin and his propaganda machine are meddling in American politics through their open support of the right wing conspiracy industry.
We also know that the Texas secession movement went from a running joke to a serious Republican platform plank about the time Russian fascists started to express an interest in it.

It’s not because he’s insane; it’s because he doesn’t really know what he is doing, he’s full of shit, and he is totally making this stuff up as he goes along.

It’s only our historical blinders that make our discourse try to shoehorn Trump into a bin where he doesn’t fit. We assume presidential candidates are well-rounded, well-educated people with a broad base of understanding, because that’s basically how it’s always been.

Donald Trump is just a dumb, uncurious man. Sad!

Saw this earlier at a forum. We’ve heard stuff like this a lot..but with what is going on right now I found it a chilling reminder and good to read again…and again.

Change a few words and references and we have Trump.

From this link at a simple history site: The History Place - The Rise of Hitler - Germans elect Nazis

For Hitler, the master speech maker, the long awaited opportunity to let loose his talents on the German people had arrived. He would find in this downtrodden people, an audience very willing to listen. In his speeches, Hitler offered the Germans what they needed most, encouragement. He gave them heaps of vague promises while avoiding the details. He used simple catchphrases, repeated over and over.

His campaign appearances were carefully staged events. Audiences were always kept waiting, deliberately letting the tension increase, only to be broken by solemn processions of Brownshirts with golden banners, blaring military music, and finally the appearance of Hitler amid shouts of “Heil!” The effect in a closed in hall with theatrical style lighting and decorations of swastikas was overwhelming and very catching.

- - CUT - -

Hitler offered something to everyone: work to the unemployed; prosperity to failed business people; profits to industry; expansion to the Army; social harmony and an end of class distinctions to idealistic young students; and restoration of German glory to those in despair. He promised to bring order amid chaos; a feeling of unity to all and the chance to belong. He would make Germany strong again; end payment of war reparations to the Allies; tear up the treaty of Versailles; stamp out corruption; keep down Marxism; and deal harshly with the Jews.

He appealed to all classes of Germans. The name of the Nazi Party itself was deliberately all inclusive - the National Socialist German Workers’ Party.

- - CUT - -

Just a little chilling is it not? How close are we? Too damn close.

Donald Trump’s brand of insanity—being a narcissistic sociopath—makes him think he is smarter and more capable than he is. He thinks his ideas are brilliant, and he thinks he is so powerful, he can make them work no matter the odds.

His insanity is actually more dangerous than a mental illness which is treatable with medication.

I’m kind of wondering if knowledge of Russian subversion might be at least part of the reason certain Republicans have shown such an aversion to the Trump ticket. These are very ruthless power players, so the same kinds of considerations that would apply with us will not apply to them. Yet they very pointedly refuse to support Trump. The Bush family in particular is still well connected in intelligence circles. The intel agencies may know a lot more about this than they can reveal publicly; for diplomatic and legal reasons, to avoid compromising sources, etc.

However, despite what I said, it’s probably also true that Donald Trump admires Vladimir Putin and would be a dictator like him if he had the opportunity. So, throwing NATO under the bus on his road to becoming Dictator of the U.S. of A. would be something Trump would do. Trump probably figures he and Vladimir Putin could get together and make some big deals.

Yeah, as if Trump would have spent the time/energy/money necessary to get on the general election ballot in all 50 states and DC. Beyond that, realistically speaking, a viable independent candidate has to be a moderate who can draw sufficient voters from both major party nominees (this is essentially what Perot did in ‘92 according to all the polling data we have).

I know a lot of people are rolling their eyes and making fun of this (and there is some dumb shit attached to it), but one thing that’s come out of it is autistic kids and adults getting out of the house and being social with other people. It seems to be helping some people with social anxiety and panic disorders overcome their fears of interacting and trying new things. Since I’m familiar with all of that, I get the popularity and why so many people might find it appealing.

Not my thing, but hey, if it is helping people and helping to create community of some kind (as opposed to fighting and hate), I’m not gonna diss it too much. However, those kids can still get off mah lawhn, heh.

That was what I was afraid might have happened when I saw the images.

I made a comment in an earlier thread. I have a good friend with an autistic child and I know how things can go when they feel uncomfortable with their surroundings.

When I first saw the video, I was scared the cops wouldn’t understand the autistic young man and then they shoot him for making a threatening move which could come from them scaring him and causing him to act out.

Every parent of an autistic child has a nightmare about some shit like this. My son is driving on his own now and I get scared every day. Especially since his route to work contains a favorite county police speed trap. I have gone over with him several times what to do if he gets pulled over, but what if he panics and forgets? What if the cop sees his long hair (I mean LONG, to the middle of his back now) and thinks he’s some stereotype? It scares the shit out of me. And how do I teach my kid what to do without projecting my anxiety on to him? And what the FUCK is going on with police training now? Do they just give you a gun, send you to the range a few times and turn you loose?

I’m also for advocating random steroid testing for all cops. Fuck it. If we can afford to test people who get food stamps for weed, then we can afford to test for steroids. Steroids make people angry and remorseless, I think it’s an idea that should be looked at and implemented.

The only way that even remotely makes sense is that the cop was shooting at the autistic kid because he thought … NO… just no.

There was no reason. We all see the video. There’s no reason to think anyone was in any danger there. The cop fired first and didn’t think. He didn’t think about who he was shooting or why. If he was firing at the autistic man, he missed all three shots, hitting Charles Kinsey once.

If he was firing at Kinsey, he hit him 1 of 3 times.

There’s no way any of this is good. But I’m sure the ALM nuts will ignore all of this.

This.

Those who are mentally ill are more likely to end up in interactions with law enforcement, and far too many end up being subjected to criminalization of their mental illness, rather than treatment (arrest, processing, jailing pending bail, etc.) And there’s far too many cases of where persons who are mentally ill are shot and killed by police in situations that could and should have been resolved without deadly force.

But they are not making it any better for themselves by declaring war on the general public. Especially minority communities. There really needs to be a deep look taken at what is being taught beyond shooting practice and active shooter drills. Our news here in Atlanta has stories all the time about”what the cops are doing to protect you from terrorists and lone wolf shooters” but not a word about what else goes into police training. And the cops keep having these “active shooter workshops” for the public at local schools on the weekends. None of that addresses day to day public safety issues.

BREAKING!

Heard it on ESPN radio while cleaning up some stuff in my kitchen.

Here is CNN info: CNN - Brazilian police arrest 10 suspected of planning terrorist acts during Olympics

Rio de Janeiro (CNN)Brazilian police have arrested 10 people suspected of planning terrorist acts during next month’s Rio Olympics, Brazil’s Justice Ministry said Thursday.

The group was inspired by ISIS and mostly organized online, Justice Minister Alexandre de Moraes said.

He said no specific targets were mentioned, but the Justice Ministry is still investigating the suspects’ computers and cell phones to learn more about the possible plans.

De Moraes said the suspects are all Brazilian nationals, and that one minor was mentioned in the conversations.

Another two people have warrants out for their arrests. Authorities said they believe those suspects will be arrested soon.

De Moraes said the group was not an organized cell, calling it “absolutely amateur — with no preparation.”

The group essentially said, “Let’s start training in martial arts, let’s start learning how to shoot,” the justice minister said.

He noted the group tried to buy a gun online, which no organized cell would do.

The two most obvious possibilities for Republicans to create disasters that are intended to help Team (R) are:

1) have provocateurs spark riot(s) at the DNC

2) back-channel coordination with Putin to create something messy at the right time.

Neither of these are out of character for Republicans at this point. If I can think of these ideas, anyone can, so the US intelligence community better not have this kind of stuff in the “unthinkable” category.

I am pleased and surprised that the RNC has gone so far without serious violence. But that will just make it so much sweeter for them if violence breaks out at the DNC

And if we have a serious natural and/or man-made disaster that disrupts public order and services over a wide area and prompts the government to call out military units to restore order and services, we are gonna have a major mess on our hands…

So, throwing NATO under the bus on his road to becoming Dictator of the U.S. of A. would be something Trump would do. Trump probably figures he and Vladimir Putin could get together and make some big deals.

Problem is both of them see the world the same way. In their perception the rest of the world is divided into two categories; lackeys and enemies.

Since they will never be lackeys, except to their own egos, they will always regard each other as enemies. Hard to makes deals when a person believe the other side of the deal is just waiting to stick the knife in.

We contacted Peckinpaugh at the Muncie Animal Shelter to determine whether anything other than the assertion the facility had a Pokemon Go dogwalking program was true, but nothing we’ve found indicates Muncie Animal Shelter ever charged customers $5 per hour per dog for the “privilege” of walking dogs, that the program significantly impacted their adoption rates, that adoption fees were waived as a result, or that the dogs currently awaiting adoption were “borrowed” from another shelter because the Pokemon dogs were all adopted. Peckinpaugh confirmed that there was never a charge to walk the dogs (and fretted the claim might discourage those interested in doing so), no money has been raised by the program, and while six dogs have been adopted, many more still need homes.

What if Trump IS a lackey? A lot of his followers would have no problem with him being subservient to Putin as a kind of American satrap.

NBA pulls 2017 All-Star Game out of Charlotte over discriminatory North Carolina law, focuses on New Orleans

Adam Silver sent a warning last month to the lawmakers in North Carolina. Now he’s following through.

The NBA pulled next year’s All-Star Game out of Charlotte because of the state’s refusal to change legislation that excludes the LGBT community, according to The Vertical. New Orleans, which hosted the All-Star Weekends in 2008 and 2014, is the frontrunner to replace Charlotte for the Feb. 19 game, the report added.

From my understanding of the situation the answer to that question is, “Yes.”

I’m not sure why but I think it is a combination of culture and money.

The culture means police are about keeping ‘others’ away from ‘normal’, rather than ‘To Serve and Protect’. The money is, “We can’t spend much on police because taxes are too high. Lives, especially of ‘others’, are less valuable than money anyway.”

It’s not even an open secret anymore, it’s just open now that the alt-right and Trump love affair between themselves and Putin exists. The love affair is all about the perception of an authoritarian white man who never backs down, never apologizes, and is seen as the manliest of all men. What happens when two such personalities eventually butt heads?

That’s how major wars are started over really stupid stuff. Here is the actual reality. Putin’s oil-based Russia is experiencing a major economic headwind due to concerted efforts from strategic alliances worldwide. Russia is experiencing a major brain drain of academics and scientists frustrated with the highly nationalist and repressive atmosphere Putin has engineered. Russian media is now considered a joke worldwide due to the open strong arm tactics that have brought all outlets within Russia to heel. All must bow down to Putin now and the world knows it.

Alt-right and Trump want this for America. No Fucking Way.

I like aggressive war
I like sieges
I like breakthroughs
I like withdrawing
I like cleaning up
I like retreating

Since Trump is basically promising everyone gets World War III, he should at least talk it up a bit.

Really 1984 describes best the kind of attack on reality we’re seeing.

And so many still seem completely blind as to what is going on.

One small example. If Trump becomes POTUS, the only question about his eventual #1 spot on the worst US presidents in history list is how long it will take him to earn that spot.

I think he could easily manage that in the first 100 days.

But many in the MSM still want their goddamn horserace.

On the final day of the National Convention Trump continues to act like a bullying asshole to his fellow Republicans.

CLEVELAND — Just hours before accepting his party’s nomination, Donald Trump taunted his party on Thursday, ripping into his rivals and joking that, had he run as an independent, he could have defeated the GOP.

Trump also remarked that the RNC better do a good job at getting out the vote and hiring good people, noting that he’s spending a lot of money and raising this for the party. He pledged to work hard for the party as the nominee, several sources said.

“They ran Ted Cruz out of the room!” he said. “There wasn’t a person in the room that liked him! … That’s unity!

He also continued his assault on Ohio Gov. John Kasich, who has refused to endorse Trump or appear at this week’s convention, which is being held in Kasich’s home state. Trump and Kasich forces have spent much of the week attacking one another.

“If I got beaten as bad as Kasich got beaten by me I wouldn’t support him either,” two people quoted Trump as saying.

He went on to say that he didn’t care about Kasich’s endorsement, arguing that the governor is irrelevant and not a factor in the race.

Male escorts are making crazy money at the RNC

It’s been a great week for gay escorts in Cleveland.

Male prostitutes contacted by The Post said business is booming and Republican National Convention attendees — most of them married — are clamoring for their services.

“Business has been way better. I’ve seen 10 clients so far,” one male escort said.

“Most of them were first-timers. You could tell they were nervous, but once they became more comfortable, they seemed to be having a good time.”

Another escort said he had already earned $1,600 since Monday — over six times the amount he usually makes.

“I normally only make $200 to $300, but I’ve been seeing lots of guys in hotels downtown,” he said, noting the boom in business near the Quicken Loans Arena.

Donald Trump faces battle to win presidency after drama-plagued Republican National Convention

The Republicans are veering towards a train wreck of their own making.

This week was meant to be the moment they drew a line under the nasty, bitter campaign of the past 18 months, a campaign that included comments about the size of Donald Trump’s hands, his orange glow, “little Marco”, Lyin’ Ted. The list is long.

I love a broad-ranging paragraph:

Of course, the erection of barriers to technological innovation does not always start with the government. Those with a vested interest in the status quo may push their governments to impose bans. They may do so through protest, as the Ottoman calligraphers did, and as Irish opponents of genetically modified potatoes did in 2002, by marching in Dublin to express their opposition to the “death of good food.”

Also goes into the campaign against margarine. Those were the days!

The unfortunate part is that he will still have party unity. In the end, it doesn’t matter how bitter the words and how much internal backstabbing there is. Because Republicans always vote, and they always vote for the Republican candidate.

None of them will vote Hillary. None of them will miss a chance to vote against Hillary. Not one. Can you imagine, for even a second, any of these random talking head wingnuts passing up that chance? Can you imagine Ben Shapiro, or Erick Erickson, or Ted Cruz, or any of your wingnut friends or relatives, doing anything other than voting against Hillary? They will find a reason, they will justify a Trump vote any way they can, because the underlying principle of the American Conservative is hate. And they have been conditioned for a generation to hate Hillary Clinton, hate, hate, hate.

There is no gaffe, no crime, no foulness that Trump can commit that will turn them from this hate. Hate is the very essence of their being, reinforced a thousand times a day with every click of their mouse and every glance at a TV or word on the radio.

As sad as it makes me, I unfortunately think that Trump’s current poll numbers represent his floor. There will be no mass defection of Republicans. It is simply unthinkable.

It’s what happens when weaponised insincerity is applied to structured ignorance. Donald Trump is the Gordon Gekko of the attention economy, but even he is no longer in control. This culture war is being run in bad faith by bad actors who are running way off-script, and it’s barely begun, and there are going to be a lot of refugees.

I’m not critical of the faiths, I’m critical of the faithful. Loving, giving, peaceful people exist in all faiths and they tend to give the credit to their faith. And hateful, greedy, violent people exist in all faiths and similarly give the credit to their faith.

Why, it’s almost like people create their own gods in their own image!

You hit the jackpot right there.

’S OK, mon. Trump is doing a service, clearing away the bullshit sheen of respectability from the RW. Now the millenials and the Xers have the luxury of a clean choice. It’s coming down to self-defining action.

EXCLUSIVE: Cops fear for Ted Cruz safety as they offer to step up protection for senator after his refusal to endorse Trump led to fury at the convention

Capitol Police have offered to beef up Cruz’s security detail after angry confrontations on the floor of the GOP convention Wednesday night
Cruz was flanked by two presidential-style security personnel as he addressed furious state delegates from Texas
The guards scanned the crowd and kept close guard on the Texas lawmaker
Cruz lost his Secret Service detail after he dropped out of the presidential race, but still employs his own security guards

NC GOP chairman to Cruz delegates: Find your own way home

CLEVELAND

When North Carolina Republican Chairman Robin Hayes asked fellow delegate Ted Hicks on Thursday what he thought of the convention speech by Texas Sen. Ted Cruz, Hicks was candid.

“I thought it was a fine speech,” said Hicks, who’d flown to Cleveland aboard Hayes’ private Pilatus plane.

But he was startled by Hayes’ reply.

“I think you need to ride the bus home,” Hayes told Hicks and fellow Cruz supporter Rod Chaney.

So the two Triangle-area Republicans, who’d expected to fly back with Hayes, scrambled to find a ride with a delegate who happened to be driving home Thursday.

So, last night some nut threw a fake bomb into a squad car and set off a 9 hour standoff with cops at Columbus Circle that led to the guy being pepper sprayed and taken to Bellevue for psych eval earlier this morning (he had claimed he had a pressure cooker bomb and a deadman switch).

Today, part of 2d Avenue in Midtown is closed because of a bomb threat to the Israeli consulate.

Can we go a day without a bomb threat? Too much to ask?

I know, we can’t go a week without mass shootings.

And here’s the kicker to all of this - all the crime rates are still down from where they were 5 years ago, or 10, or 20, or 30, or 40.

The nation is a whole lot safer than we’ve been, even despite the ongoing violence that shows up on evening news or twitter feeds.

It wont stop Trump and the trash train surrounding him from claiming we’re unsafe, insecure and need to be a police state to be safe (or at least carry a lot of guns - unless you’re black, in which case, you’re SOL). And then claim he’s the only one who can keep us safe from foreign threats all while he states he’d go ahead and shut down our foreign military bases, rework the NATO treaty obligations and screw over longstanding allies in favor of, well, to be blunt, kissing Putin’s ass.

You just know that this isn’t the speech Trump really wants to give.

What Trump really wants to do is free association on the perfidy of Ted Cruz and the danger posed by Mexican rapists.

I have this dream of him saying, “You know what, folks? They want me to give this speech that’s on the teleprompters, but I don’t want to do that. So I won’t! Get rid of ‘em!”

And so the Teleprompters are lowered away and Trump launches into what he wants to say, about Ted Cruz and John Kasich, and ‘let me tell you about the Negro’ and on and on with stream of consciousness stuff so outrageous that even the hardcore crazies at the Convention are stunned into silence.

And then Trump winds down and looks around the room in the silence that follows, like Captain Queeg after “But it was the strawberries! That’s when I knew they were all against me!”

I know it won’t happen, because there’s nothing he could say that would turn THEM off. But as I say, it’s a dream.

A Maryland man says his wife has been wrongfully sentenced to three years’ imprisonment in Gambia following her arrest during an anti-government protest there.

Ebrima Jawara (eh-BREE’-mah jah-WAH’-rah) of Frederick said Thursday he learned of the sentence from news reports and a relative in the west African nation.

Fanta Darboe Jawara, a naturalized U.S. citizen, was among a group of people arrested in April on charges including unlawful assembly during a demonstration near the capital, Banjul.

Her husband says she was a bystander at the demonstration while visiting her homeland.

Amnesty International says in a statement that 19 people arrested at the demonstration were convicted and sentenced to three years on Wednesday.

U.S. Sen. Ben Cardin and three other Maryland congressional members had demanded Fanta Darboe Jawara’s release last month.

Reading these prepared remarks, I can say two things:

First, no way does this actually reflect what will be said (Trump can’t stay on script and there’s not nearly enough “okay?”s in this speech to fit his style.

Secondly, I’m fairly confident this paragraph will not be well received in the room:

Only weeks ago, in Orlando, Florida, 49 wonderful Americans were savagely murdered by an Islamic terrorist. This time, the terrorist targeted our LGBT community. As your President, I will do everything in my power to protect our LGBT citizens from the violence and oppression of a hateful foreign ideology. To protect us from terrorism, we need to focus on three things.

In fact, I wouldn’t be surprised if there are some boos for it.

A naturalist’s guide to the endangered American Republican elephant.

Seldom does the global public have an opportunity to observe an endangered species in its natural habitat, but this week, wildlife enthusiasts received a rare glimpse into the poignant final days of the American Republican elephant.

Classified as “critically endangered” by international authorities, Elephantidae republicanus, though native to the United States, has struggled for decades to adapt to its rapidly evolving biome. The enormous pachyderm — once a noble animal that roamed the length and breadth of the nation, as common in America’s cities as in its rural areas — has, in recent years, seen its numbers dwindle and its habitat contract.

Recently, however, some unknown constellation of events brought more than 2,000 surviving specimens of E. republicanus to a Cleveland watering hole known locally as the Quicken Loans Arena. In this sheltered environment, E. republicanus can now be briefly observed, and we urge all naturalists, both professional and amateur, to take advantage of what may be a final opportunity to see this great beast before its almost inevitable demise.

The factors leading to the precipitous decline of this once-ubiquitous pachyderm are still poorly understood. It is believed, however, that a high degree of dietary specialization may have contributed to its decline. Known to consume large quantities of “American” cuisine and eschew foods it considers “ethnic,” E. republicanus gradually cut itself off from numerous potentially sustaining food sources.

I apparently should have kept, reading, because the next paragraph is isolationism by temper tantrum… holy fuck:

This includes stopping China’s outrageous theft of intellectual property, along with their illegal product dumping, and their devastating currency manipulation. Our horrible trade agreements with China and many others, will be totally renegotiated. That includes renegotiating NAFTA to get a much better deal for America - and we’ll walk away if we don’t get the deal that we want. We are going to start building and making things again.

Does he really think that cutting off trade with China will stop intellectual property theft or currency manipulation? Wouldn’t it just send it into overdrive with no means at our disposal for opposing it?
