Trump Adviser Roger Stone Tweets Image of Nazi Mascot “Pepe the Frog”

Right in the middle of acting outraged about Hillary’s “basket of deplorables” statement
Politics • Views: 56,217

A cartoon frog named “Pepe” has become a very well-known, quite ubiquitous symbol used by neo-Nazis and the racist “alt-right.”

So today, as Trump and his surrogates are pitching a huge fit of fake outrage that Hillary Clinton (correctly) called out many of his supporters as racists and bigots, close Trump adviser Roger Stone tweets the following photoshopped image — featuring the Nazi mascot Pepe the frog. They’re excellent at the art of self-beclownment.

Roger Stone is no Photoshop expert, and I’ll bet this image originated at one of the websites frequented by “alt-right” racists. Here’s a similar image posted in Reddit’s “The_Donald” section yesterday.

And by the way, Trump himself has also retweeted the Nazi mascot image you see above:

I don’t think “The Deplorables” will be quite such a badge of honor as “The Old Contemptibles”.

Emperor Wilhelm II of Germany, who was famously dismissive of the BEF, allegedly issued an order on 19 August 1914 to “exterminate … the treacherous English and walk over General French’s contemptible little army”. Hence, in later years, the survivors of the regular army dubbed themselves “The Old Contemptibles”. No evidence of any such order being issued by the Kaiser has ever been found.

Nice try, though.

It’s the one time he had his eyes almost fully open. I saw him do it when he ran away from a live interview when he was told they found his lost luggage. The only time I’ve seen him appear to be actually conscious.

I dread to think what sort of embarrassing and treasured items he travels with that had him so excited to know they were being returned.

It still absolutely amazes me how the wingnuts I know think that Hillary’s remark is absolutely over the line, when they’re carrying water for a guy who basically declared the same thing (“Most Mexicans are bad, but there’s some good ones”) a year ago and has never apologized for it.

Some of it could be foreigners buying up real estate as investment, that has been happening in Vancouver.

They passed some massive excise tax on purchases of homes by foreign buyers (People who are not Canadian citizens, and live outside the country predominately). I heard housing prices are trending back towards rational.

I think what you mean is that only people making over a half million a year can afford to live there. That’s just to qualify for a mortgage large enough to let you buy there.

People paying cash will need to be multimillionaires, starting at at least $5 million.

Trump has spent weeks now telling majority white audiences that the majority of black folks in America live in crime-ridden hellholes called the “inner city” where they’re afraid to walk the street for fear of getting shot and unable to make a living because Democrats are keeping them down. Then gone on to declare that those folks have “nothing to lose” by voting for him because he’s gonna make it all better for them.

He kicked off his campaign last year by declaring that the majority of those who come from Mexico, from South America, and from the Middle East are not good people, they’re the problem children that those countries didn’t want. They’re rapists, they’re drug peddlers, they’re terrorists, and so forth. But made sure to throw in a line about how there are “some” good people among them.

Tell us, how are her remarks from last night worse than any of what Trump has said and his supporters have stood behind for A FUCKING YEAR?!

The other day when we took our cat into town for his examination, while the vet was doing that we went to the Mexican restaurant next door. Place was packed (we’d never been to that restaurant). My wife and I each ordered different taco plates.

I asked the waitress if tacos and their restaurant had become more popular recently and she said the management was considering putting a taco truck on the streets of Scottsbluff. (That would be in Nate Silver’s most-likely district to go for Mr. Trump.)

Weird indeed. Trump’s activated the racist base of the GOP. The white supremacists and bigot brigade are more assertive now with Trump than they have been in decades. That’s no surprise, nor is it shocking. It’s a culmination of right wing pandering to these bigots. The rest of the GOP, however, was more circumspect in overt racism. They went with the dog whistles and occasionally racist volley.

Trump’s a 88-gun salute to hate. And the white supremacists are fully aware of all this, and gloat over their new found effort at mainstreaming working beyond their dreams.

I almost have the counter spaces reclaimed except for the pile of papers that got pulled out of the junk drawer and need to be gone through. Targetpractice  Sep 10, 2016 • 4:52:13pm

Trump’s remarks about how Mexico sends “rapists, murderers, drug dealers, etc” to America was excused by his supporters with “Mexican is not a race!”

When he declared (and his lawyers argued) that the judge assigned to the Trump U. case should recuse himself because of his race/heritage, his supporters argued that being Latino could bias a judge against a white defendant.

When he went after the Khans for criticizing his remarks about Muslims, they engaged in the most sickening displays of racism, from perpetuating rumors that the Khans were supporters of foreign terrorists, to nodding along as Trump surrogates argued that Mr. Khan was a vehement supporter of “SHARIA!!111”

And now, over the last few weeks, Trump’s attempts to “reach out” to black voters by portraying them as victims of the DNC living in “inner city” hellholes has been followed by his supporters going “CHICAGO!!1111” and resurrecting Civil Rights-era pro-segregation BS to argue that black folks had it better when they kept quiet and went along with the white majority.

And that’s not counting the various groups, from the KKK to various “alt-right” organizations, who have declared either open support for him or argued that his candidacy is helping their various “causes.”

If I have a problem with Hillary’s remarks, it’s that she was being generous when she said such people only constitute “half” of his supporters.

The second half of her comments are at least as insulting than the first half. If you support Trump, you are either a racist, bigot, homophobe, xenophobe …….. or (second half) you are a pathetic loser left behind by the modern economy. If she loses, it will be because independents have grown weary of being call racists, idiot losers.

If you live on the internet, she may have a point. In the real world with your neighbor down the street, not so much.

When my wife and I were on vacation and in Chicago, when we were leaving town she wanted to go to a restaurant on the far end of S. Harlem Avenue she’d remembered when she lived there many years ago.

Middle-aged white couple (wife on two canes) walking around the South Side of Chicago asking people for directions to the restaurant, driving around in a Smart car with Nebraska plates.

You know what we didn’t feel? Afraid of anyone. Found the restaurant. Had a fantastic meal at a good price. Left a tip equal to the amount of the meal. Continued on our way out of town.

It’s almost as if the South Side is like any other place, where if you treat people decently and respectfully they treat you the same way.

I love the “Trump’s new to this” excuse. They’ll use that in the debates, too. But here’s the thing - the debates are like a job interview, for the most important position in Government. Sure, when you’re hiring, you might be willing to cut the less experienced person SOME slack for lack of experience, if you at least got the impression they had worked and studied about the job and what it entailed. But if you have to choose between one person who’s worked all her career to do as good a job as possible, and a guy who can’t be bothered to even read the job description, you don’t go with the latter.

This is not saying that things before or after were bad - just that those three albums from 77 & 79 were his creative high point that only Blackstar equaled.

We cut the cable last year, so we’re streaming it off of ESPN. I just happened to look up at the screen and see the giant red/white/blue “USA” spelled out in the stands. This is a lie. Trump’s past history, which has been written about in the MSM, would let any open-minded and sane individual know that he has a history of racism, bigotry, cheating, telling yuuuge lies, aligning himself with deplorable and despicable persons if he thinks they can help him achieve a goal [mobsters], and scamming others out of money he owes them. Just because this is his first time in the political arena has nothing to do with him attracting white supremacists and their ideas into his campaign. Even some White suburban women in Philadelphia are calling Trump a racist and a bigot. I guess this would be something his supporters would strenuously deny right along with Lindsey Graham describing him using the same words.

The NC GOP tried to get some sh*t started by saying Democratic VP Candidate Tim Kaine was wearing a pin showing the flag of Honduras. He was actually wearing a Blue Star Families pin. SMDH at some wingnuts’ ignorance and sloppy attention to detail and at their vigorous denial of facts and truth.

She apologized for “half”. She didn’t apologize for calling out the bigots. In fact, she said:

Clinton says she was in the wrong to say that half of Trump’s supporters belong in a “basket of deplorables” but continued to lash out at the far-right extremists linked to the GOP campaign.

“Last night I was ‘grossly generalistic,’ and that’s never a good idea. I regret saying ‘half’ —that was wrong,” Clinton’s Saturday afternoon mea culpa read.

“But let’s be clear, what’s really ‘deplorable’ is that Donald Trump hired a major advocate for the so-called ‘alt-right’ movement to run his campaign and that David Duke and other white supremacists see him as a champion of their values.”

re: #140 Bubblehead II

Wasn’t suggesting you were. Just wondering wtf compound was alluding to. I know lots of things. Bwtf is he alluding to?

Probably this:

For his humanitarianism and thinking outside the traditional corporate box, Ulukaya now stands at the center of a vicious smear campaign. Earlier this year, in a piece originally headlined “American Yogurt Tycoon Vows to Choke U.S. With Muslims,” a writer for the far-right conspiracy-mongering website World Net Daily falsely claimed that refugees were being sent to Twin Falls specifically for the purpose of working at the Chobani plant and that Ulukaya was “call[ing] on [the] biggest American companies to join [an] Islamic surge.” (That line was later removed from the piece, as was the headline, since changed to the slightly less inflammatory “U.S. Yogurt Billionaire Asks Businesses to Hire More Foreign Refugees.”) The allegations have since migrated to the similarly paranoid precincts of breitbart.com, the “alt-right” repository of white nationalism and xenophobia whose former executive chairman, Steve Bannon, recently merged seamlessly into the Trump campaign as its CEO. At Breitbart, the story of Chobani’s refugee employees has taken on new life as the centerpiece of a broader intrigue. For the past month, Breitbart reporter Lee Stranahan has been filing dispatch after dispatch from the Idaho town alleging a nexus of disease, rape, and jihad—all with Chobani and Ulukaya at its center.

Compound Idaho wants to bitch about Trump supporters being called deplorable while thinly alluding to racist, anti immigrant agitprop.

re: #189 goddamnedfrank

The most sensational component of Breitbart’s “special report” concerns an inappropriate sexual encounter, misleadingly labeled a “gang rape,” involving three refugee minors and a 5-year-old Twin Falls girl in June. Local anti-Muslim activists seized upon the incident, which is under investigation by authorities, and launched a campaign to discredit the entire refugee resettlement program, which Stranahan ominously labels “Idaho’s Globalist Devil’s Bargain.” Last month, a white nationalist organization called the American Freedom Party issued robocalls across Idaho informing listeners that the “nonwhite invasion of their state and all white areas constitutes white genocide.” (This is the same racist outfit that endorsed Trump, calling him the “Great White Hope,” and paid for robocalls on his behalf in the run-up to the Iowa caucuses.)

I believe that what Hillary’s campaign did was very smart as it’s put a spotlight on the racism, and all the other ism’s in the Trump campaign and as you can see — that’s not what the Trump supporters are arguing about, they just didn’t want it pointed out.

re: #197 jaunte

I think this is a good point:

One way of reporting on Clinton’s statement is to weigh its political cost, ask what it means for her campaign, or attempt to predict how it might affect her performance among certain groups. This path is in line with the current imperatives of political reporting and, at least for the moment, seems to be the direction of coverage. But there is another line of reporting that could be pursued—Was Hillary Clinton being truthful or not?

And it actually represents the division on the Democratic side. One group is worried about the political cost to the campaign. The other group, which I will claim to be part of, is more concerned about getting its truth out there.

makeitstop  Sep 10, 2016 • 6:56:17pm

The beauty of Clinton’s remarks is she’s got them in their usual ‘opposite of HRC’ defensive position, and that means the only argument they can make is a defense of bigotry.

When the grass is cut, the snakes will show. Hillary has cut the grass.

The former group is, sorry to say, why we so often find ourselves losing elections. They worry less about supporting a candidate who’s speaking the truth than what the people who feel hurt by the telling of that truth will do. “Oh no, what will the neighbors think!?” is their rallying cry.

There was the same thing after the alt-right speech, the whole “We’re not bigots, she is!” business that left them scrambling for anything they could, even invoking the corpse of Robert Byrd to argue she was the “real” racist.

Why are they still doing head to head polls for Trump and Hillary at all? It isn’t like Johnson and Stein are going to just drop out of the race and they will almost certainly get some percentage of the vote, so what does a head to head poll really tell us?

Uh, because Johnson “what’s an Alleppo” and Stein “I hang out with Putin” together will win zero electoral votes?

They can still affect the outcome. They could, for instance, pull enough votes from Clinton to shift a state to Trump. Lincoln won the election with only 40% of the popular vote because it was a four man race.

I don’t see Johnson pulling votes from Democrats, and Stein is on less than half the states’ ballots.

Over at 538, Nate Silver has never plotted Johnson above 0.5% and he doesn’t bother tracking Stein.

I’ll have to find the poll, and I’m not that good at finding them, but in one of the states Johnson was actually pulling more votes from Clinton than Trump. NeverTrump Republicans could go for Johnson.

There’s one saying about how a “gaffe” is when a politician tells the truth…but another observation I once heard is that a “gaffe” only causes lasting harm when it reinforces existing perceptions.

- Howard Dean was being portrayed as “too angry”, and the infamous scream (grossly exaggerated by media repetition) reinforced that

- Palin was perceived as ignorant, a characteristic constantly reinforced by her 2008 gaffes.

- In contrast, Obama’s “57 states” slip of the tongue didn’t gain any traction outside of RWNJ circles because, if anything, he was perceived as “too intellectual” or “professorial”

So coming back to HRC’s statement - does it reinforce any existing perception of her within the public at large as opposed to just RWNJs? I can’t think of one. If anything, her brutal honesty goes completely against the ridiculous “pandering/insincere” meme.

I’m sure that was a .5% chance of winning, which seems way high. His Now-cast today gives him 10.1% of the vote, which seems way, way high.

Edit: Yeah—.5% chance of winning today.

Not a chance Johnson alters the electoral vote of my state (Nebraska) for example and throws it to Clinton.

Not a chance Stein takes enough votes in New York or California to throw the election in those states to Trump.

Back late: I was walking around the village lowering the village flags for Patriot Day (I don’t normally do that at midnight because I don’t want someone coming out with a shotgun thinking there’s a prowler or something).

Maintenance and upkeep of the village flagstaffs is left to the most lefty person in town.
