Those mails are so, so shocking.

“This is indeed a hard balance to strike,” Schwerin wrote in the email to a handful of top advisers, “since we don’t want to invite mockery for being too enthusiastically opposed to a deal she once championed, or over-claiming how bad it is, since it’s a very close call on the merits.”

That’s it, Clinton can pack up, she’s just lost the election. So damning!

Movie/Music trivia

Jeff Beck and Jimmy Page(The Yardbirds) 1967.mpg

Several people known in 1966 are in the film; others became famous later. The most widely noted cameo was by The Yardbirds, who perform “Stroll On” in the last third. Antonioni first asked Eric Burdon to play that scene but he turned it down. As Keith Relf sings, Jimmy Page and Jeff Beck play to either side, along with Chris Dreja. After his guitar amplifier fails, Beck bashes his guitar to bits, as The Who did at the time. Antonioni had wanted The Who in Blowup as he was fascinated by Pete Townshend’s guitar-smashing routine. Steve Howe of The in Crowd recalled, “We went on the set and started preparing for that guitar-smashing scene in the club. They even went as far as making up a bunch of Gibson 175 replicas … and then we got dropped for The Yardbirds, who were a bigger name. That’s why you see Jeff Beck smashing my guitar rather than his!” Antonioni also considered using The Velvet Underground (signed at the time to a division of MGM Records) in the nightclub scene, but, according to guitarist Sterling Morrison, “the expense of bringing the whole entourage to England proved too much for him”.en.wikipedia.org

it is incredible where we are considering a month ago things looked decidedly less assured. The mountain that the Clinton campaign had to scale is incredible impressive when you look at how the media was stacked against her.

Indepednant evaluation of Media Coverage of 2016 campaign

Lots of good meat here and the graphic illustration of the balance of the type of reporting that was being done and the focus of that reporting was telling.

Trump: Hey Apollo Theater, can I hold a rally at your place?
Apollo Theater: Nope.

Sources close to those discussions — or lack of — tell Confidential that at one point recently, Trump’s team had been reaching out “every day,” but thus far, all he has to show for it are the tears of a clown.

“They don’t want him there,” says one insider familiar with The Donald’s dealings with the 102-year-old concert hall, which became the Apollo in 1934.

This is what I hate about elections…especially for President. Too many asses become exposed. You forget how many crazies there are in this world, but a big election makes them surface. Add in social media and you really get to see the sad underbelly of crazy America.

Sometimes I think that is one of the reasons people that are sane do not show up in polls and overall are not heard from giving a false impression to who is the dominant candidate.

Loud mouths let everyone know. Ordinary people go into hiding so they don’t have to hear the loudmouths. They don’t really want to be counted because they don’t want their intentions known. It is much safer just to hide then come out to vote and hope for the best.

It sure is easy to tell who is favored by all the crazy loud mouths. Quiet, thoughtful America wins the day. That is why I think the polls don’t reflect Hillary’s real numbers.

This is an interesting side effect of being completely divorced from reality. The ability to make CT plausible is lost.

For example, a plausible CT about the Trump tape is that it was a way for BushCo to backstab Trump.

52
Anymouse  Oct 11, 2016 • 4:05:48pm

My wife is reading fetlife dot com right now.

The discussion of “pussy grabber Trump” is quite intense, and the Fetlife community overwhelmingly rejects the idea that either BDSM or 50 Shades of Grey has anything to do with Trump’s leaked tape. They point out his lack of consent present in the tape, his racism, his bigotry, &c do not represent the BDSM community. His lying would not be tolerated.

It would appear that Trump is in trouble with the BDSM community and that they overwhelmingly support Hillary Clinton, if that particular demographic is important to elections… .

Side commentary also indicates he would be a crappy dominant: “How could anyone who acts like a three year old be any sort of dom?”

More music trivia: Did you know that Roger Waters wrote Pigs (Three Different Ones) after travelling in a time machine from 1977 to 2016 just to observe the Trump campaign? True fact.

Big man, pig man
Ha, ha, charade you are
You well heeled big wheel
Ha, ha, charade you are
And when your hand is on your heart
You’re nearly a good laugh
Almost a joker
With your head down in the pig bin
Saying ‘Keep on digging’
Pig stain on your fat chin
What do you hope to find
Down in the pig mine?
You’re nearly a laugh
You’re nearly a laugh
But you’re really a cry

Bus stop rat bag
Ha, ha, charade you are
You fucked up old hag
Ha, ha, charade you are
You radiate cold shafts of broken glass
You’re nearly a good laugh
Almost worth a quick grin
You like the feel of steel
You’re hot stuff with a hatpin
And good fun with a hand gun
You’re nearly a laugh
You’re nearly a laugh
But you’re really a cry

Hey you, White House
Ha, ha, charade you are
You house proud town mouse
Ha, ha, charade you are
You’re trying to keep our feelings off the street
You’re nearly a real treat
All tight lips and cold feet
And do you feel abused?
You got to stem the evil tide
And keep it all on the inside
Mary you’re nearly a treat
Mary you’re nearly a treat
But you’re really a cry

He blatantly makes the song about Trump

Well, no. Not if you read the WashPost story of how they came to light. After Machado, some folks at Access Hollywood said, “Hey, Trump was on our show. I wonder what we’ve got in the archives?”

So they dug through the archives and found the Billy Bush tape. They let NBC News (parent company) know, they put together the whole story, and were getting ready to release. They were just waiting for the Legal Department to sign off…

Days passed.

Somebody finally said, “Fuck this noise!”, and sent the clip to Farenthold at the WashPost, who’s been like Captain Ahab on the Trump Foundation.

Yep, that is Ryan’s dilemma in a nutshell: If he embraces Trump, he sacrifices the Reps in purple and blue districts. He foresakes Trump, he likely won’t save enough of either to matter and he puts those in red districts into play.

I so love Charles P. Pierce’s description of Ryan’s dilemma.

Not content with Monday’s fan dance of gilded pusillanimity, “sources close” to Speaker Paul Ryan—and very likely simultaneously wearing his socks and underwear—have taken to the pages of Tiger Beat On The Potomac to deliver Act II of Hamlet On The Banks Of The Rock River. And it’s pretty much what you expected, if you happen to be a middle-school drama teacher.

Does it get any better than “sources close” to Speaker Paul Ryan—and very likely simultaneously wearing his socks and underwear…?

OT, but I just had a thought.

Douglas Adams was a former Script Editor and Writer on Doctor Who, and several stories he never got into the show were eventually adapted in Non-Doctor Who Stories.

The The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy, the answer to a question we never know, but is described as “Answer to the Ultimate Question of Life, the Universe, and Everything” is 42.

We don’t know the Doctor’s Name.

Is his name 42?

Been gone a few days, so this has probably been discussed, but the first message on my voicemail once I got power back was from a friend in Columbus to tell me the Dispatch had endorsed Hillary—first time in a century they hadn’t gone Republican.

Was it a big deal on the homefront? And was it because the Dispatch changed hands or because Trump was too high a hill to climb even for the Dispatch?

Well one nice thing about it all coming at this time is the fact that it will still be fresh in the minds of the voters.

If it was months ago, Trump and the party could dance around it and patch it all up with Bondo and then the patch would heave out after the election when it would be too late.

I say bring it on…buckets and baskets full. Heap it on and bury the mess that is Trump.

Waiting until it was logistically impossible to remove Trump from the ballot was a genius move. I’m not saying this timing was deliberately orchestrated, but it couldn’t have played out any better.

re: #47 ObserverArt

My rule of thumb was always to keep a running mental average of all the polls I saw and assume the result was 2 points pessimistic for the Democrat, and I was always dead on. Then I got blindsided in 2004 and thought I would have to abandon my system. :-(

Then I noticed that the RCP average was 3.2 points pessimistic for Obama in 2012. The knuckledraggers who came out of the woodwork to vote against gay marriage are baked in now—there are no new surprises coming from that direction. The extra point or more may be from the rise of paid RW disinformation factories like Rasmussen that are scandalously included in the averages now.

So I’m adding 3 points for Hillary to every poll I see. Maybe I’ll be wrong again, but it keeps me from going out of my mind….

I think it’s quite simple. All the deflections, how others speak, locker room mumbo jumbo, excuse after excuse from the same side who feign family values, a moral superiority, a ear to a deity, they would hand over the nation to a sociopath they hope will change. Once he wins…. We do not defend what he says, but did you hear..Wow. Hope and change. Ha. Anyway, the simple grain of truth to any sane human being is this; Why would you support someone who proudly does what you teach your children not to do? Forget the world. You. Do you raise your children like that? Want them to act like that? Be that? If not, then there is no excuse. Trump has shown you time after time just who and what he is. And if you have no children, well that’s on you as a human being. Your support is your admission that you endorse that behaviour. By him towards others. Simple. The Party Of Personal Responsibility has none. It’s all YOUR FAULT.

Side commentary also indicates he would be a crappy dominant: “How could anyone who acts like a three year old be any sort of dom?”</blockquote

The time passed because they were editing Billy Bush out, one report said yesterday.

This excuse kills me because:

A.) How the fuck long can it possibly take NBC to edit a tape?
B.) How would they even do that in this case? Bush’s dialog was crucial to establishing context and meaning. Trying to edit him out would’ve left glaringly obvious holes in the dialog.

No, they waited because they simply didn’t want it getting out.

Trump’s ego needs someone else to be the loser this election cycle. If he can’t beat Hillary Clinton, then it looks like Ryan et al. will have to be that “someone else”. This might be an achievable goal for Trump.

My wife and I ran into the same problem here. There aren’t many people in the village with computers, but every time someone has a problem, they call us.

It started a couple years ago when my wife was the public library director and word got out she was a software engineer for Digital. People started offering either her or me money to “look at their computer.” We would refuse the money (which made the problem worse, because now they could get someone to do it for free rather than driving their computer to Scottsbluff sixty miles away to have the computer shop do it for money.)

talkingpointsmemo.com

According to one anonymous source quoted by The Hill, Bannon frequently referred to Ryan as “the enemy” on conference calls.

Bannon also said in a December 2015 email exchange that he wanted Ryan “gone by spring,” presumably referring to the speaker’s Republican primary challenge, which he won handily. He was responding to a proposal from Breitbart’s Washington editor, Matthew Boyle, that the publication reach out to Ryan for comment on an article about mental health, an issue Ryan was pushing in Congress.

Former Breitbart staffer Ben Shapiro told The Hill that Bannon “has always wanted to burn everything down,” adding, “any chance he has to wriggle this into a way to destroy Paul Ryan, he’ll absolutely do it.”

“Bannon has Alex Jones-level paranoia about Paul Ryan,” one anonymous source told The Hill. “He thinks Paul Ryan is part of a conspiracy with George Soros and Paul Singer, in which elitists want to bring one world government.”

I imagine this is going to be explained by Ben The Blade Carson as the sort of genial lockerroom banter that America needs more of.

Really, what email could be released at this point that would throw the election to Trump? Short of major classified information, like national defense secrets that should not even be in the hands of the State Dept to begin with, what sort of email could be released that would do anything but retread old ground?

re: #95 ObserverArt

Here is the post I put up about it last evening. The Dispatch story is partially in my post and the rest is linked. Also the Dispatch video is in the comment.

I don’t know how well it went over because I’ve been busy and I don’t really listen to a lot of local media. I did hear about it though on NBC 4 as they said it was the first time in a long time The Dispatch had endorsed a Democrat.

It was, for the Dispatch, a sober decision and they didn’t dance around and suggest people do what their conscious tells them. They flat out endorsed Hillary.

Here is my post: Dispatch Endorses Hillary

Thanks—I read your post and then I went and read the endorsement. You’re right—they didn’t say vote your conscience and they REALLY don’t like Trump, but it read as if somebody was pointing a gun at their head to make them endorse Hillary. (I’ll take it, but parts of it read like, “Other than that, Mrs. Lincoln, how was the play?”)

With Johnny K standing by his conviction to not support Trump, it might have made it a little easier. I have to say, and you of all people know I can’t stand Kasich, he really has been one of the few Republicans to stand his ground—not going to the convention in his own state; basically telling Reince to fuck off when he threatened reprisals.

Exactly, the whole band was solid.

Ronnie’s latest band, damn the name escapes me at the moment, but anyway his latest band has a blues record coming out next month that “sounds” promising, pardon the pun. Anyway, here they are covering Little Walter. Charlie in particular sounds like he’s having a good time. On second listen, this might actually be good.

re: #119 goddamnedfrank

This excuse kills me because:

A.) How the fuck long can it possibly take NBC to edit a tape?
B.) How would they even do that in this case? Bush’s dialog was crucial to establishing context and meaning. Trying to edit him out would’ve left glaringly obvious holes in the dialog.

No, they waited because they simply didn’t want it getting out.

Yep, if not for Fahrenthold calling them for a comment at noon Friday, NBC would have finished their story and released the tape oh, about the Twelfth of Never.

I imagine this is going to be explained by Ben The Blade Carson as the sort of genial lockerroom banter that America needs more of.

I heard a portion of a Ben Carson interview in which the interviewer said that she had not heard that kind of talk (like Trump in the tape). Carson said “maybe that’s the problem.” That’s right, Ben Carson thinks we need to talk more about the joys of sexual assault.
