Interesting tidbit regarding the leaked tax return - the copy provided didn’t come from either one of his tax preparers, nor from a federal/state/local agency. It was provided by someone inside the Trump organization, or from someone who he had provided the return to as part of a business dealing.

At this point in time I wouldn’t be at all surprised that it was either someone connected with either Russian or other banking interests who are uncomfortable with the amount of heat being generated by Trump’s non-disclosures.

Actually, the release shows that Trump paid a trivial amount, and yet claimed that normal business costs were taxes he paid:

It’s about time people learned to talk about two things Trump is doing at the same time. The health care debacle is still going on in town halls.

goddamnedfrank  Mar 14, 2017 • 7:48:55pm

On Topic: I spent much of today hearing from idiotic Bernie Sanders fans who were convinced that he’d released his entire tax returns, when in fact all he released the exact same 1040 Summary from a single year. This is how disinformation takes root, and like I said the narrative on the right will become “see you lying libtards, he actually does pay taxes.”

Actually, the release shows that Trump paid a trivial amount, and yet claimed that normal business costs were taxes he paid:

David Cay Johnston talked about this. Yes he inflated the amount of tax paid in his statement by adding in payroll taxes, etc but that only added about $2 million. He paid $36 million due to the alternative minimum tax, and would’ve paid about $4 million without it. However the payroll tax, etc that the White House improperly added in on today’s $38 million statement didn’t shift things very far.

Kevin Drum, Mother Jones: Trump’s Tax Return Suggests He’s the Most Incompetent Billionaire in the Nation

Trump’s total investment income was $108 million, and Trump claims to be worth $5 billion or so, depending on what day you ask him. That means he earned a return on his assets of about 2 percent. In 2005! During the housing bubble! I’m no tax expert, and maybe there’s more to this story, but if Trump really did realize a return of only 2 percent, he is by long odds the most incompetent billionaire in the country.
Alternatively, of course, Trump is actually worth about $1-2 billion and he earned something like a 5-10 percent return. Take your pick.

OT: Get ready to see more of this….
Star Tribune: Mayo to pick privately insured patients amid Medicaid pressures

Mayo Clinic’s chief executive made a startling announcement in a recent speech to employees: The Rochester-based health system will give preference to patients with private insurance over those with lower-paying Medicaid or Medicare coverage, if they seek care at the same time and have comparable conditions.

The number of patients affected would probably be small, but the selective strategy reveals the financial pressures that Mayo is facing in part due to federal health reforms. For while the Affordable Care Act has reduced the number of uninsured patients, it has increased the share covered by Medicaid, which pays around 50 to 85 cents on the dollar of the actual cost of medical care.

Mayo will always take patients, regardless of payer source, when it has medical expertise that they can’t find elsewhere, said Dr. John Noseworthy, Mayo’s CEO. But when two patients are referred with equivalent conditions, he said the health system should “prioritize” those with private insurance.

“We’re asking … if the patient has commercial insurance, or they’re Medicaid or Medicare patients and they’re equal, that we prioritize the commercial insured patients enough so … we can be financially strong at the end of the year to continue to advance, advance our mission,” Noseworthy said in a videotaped speech to staff late last year. The Star Tribune obtained a transcript of the speech, and Mayo has confirmed its authenticity.

Mayo is hardly alone in trying to build its privately insured clientele. Hennepin County Medical Center, for example, is building a new ambulatory center and North Loop clinic in part to attract privately insured patients.

But in the diplomatic world of health care and politics, it is rare to hear a hospital leader espouse any strategy that promotes access for privately insured patients at the expense of publicly funded patients.

“The most interesting thing isn’t that it’s happening, it’s that a high level executive actually said it out loud,” said Mat Keller, who monitors health care policy and hospital finances for the Minnesota Nurses Association.

This is what people should really be taking away from today’s release. Trump’s tax plan would repeal the Alternative Minimum Tax Rule. That rule is what increased his effective 2005 income tax rate from 4% to 24%.

…and we come full circle.

Every policy trump supports - from the GOPDonTCare clusterfuck to so-called “tax reform” - is about robbing the 99% to give to the %1.

Maybe that’s the overarching message that could be used to simplify and focus the firehose of toxic shit emanating from his admin.

Clara has a good point. If he had to divulge his returns to partners for deals he probably would’ve only given them them summary pages. I hadn’t considered that.

Unfortunately that probably also means all we can reasonably expect in the future are equally nebulous summaries from other years.

How long will “Health Care” be this most important issue? Not long, methinks. As soon as something bad happens (terrorist attack, pandemic, dam break) Fuckface Von Clownstick will be the most popular president since FDR after Pearl Harbor.

That depends on the response, don’t you think? Hurricane Katrina didn’t exactly do any favors for Dubya (if anything, it was the start of his undoing)

Granted, much of the media will desperately try to spin whatever he does as “presidential”, but a terrorist attack is the only event that plays into his propaganda. And even that could be negated if enough people point out that Obama kept the US safe from a major terrorist attack for 8 years.

Probably someone has already noted this, but King is repeating the right wing intellectuals’ premise that Western Culture & Civilization is The Best Evah™, without which the world would be a stinking hellhole of poverty, crime and violence. Carlson is, too.

Concomitant with that premise is the association of Western Culture & Civ with white male Christian people, and a deliberate glossing over of other influences on WC&C.

IOW, it’s the Ph.D. version of white supremacy.

“Here’s a guy I’d clock in an elevator just because”

I don’t know what people like Cernovich, Steve King, David Duke, and others of that ilk are so afraid of. I’m a POC, and I talk to many other POC, and we never discuss hating white people or any other group. We talk about our kids, vacation plans, Christianity, politics, and other subjects, but I’ve never heard one POC I’ve come into contact with talk about killing white people. Even though I don’t know all POC, I know a lot of them here in my city. All I want anyone to do for me is mind their own business and keep their noses out of mine. I don’t have time to sit around and plot and plan to target any group of Americans for any reason. When I read something like the article Cernovich is promoting on Twitter, I always think that it is they who want to harm all others who oppose them in any way. My daughter is engaged to a white guy. He comes to my home, and I go to his mother and sister’s house. I have white neighbors, friends, and associates, and it has never entered my mind to harm them in any way. If there is ever a race war, I don’t think POC will start it. It will be the result of words and ideas that foul the atmosphere that are being pushed by the aforementioned individuals. They’re great at starting fires and then, distancing themselves from their handiwork. Frankly, I don’t care enough about individuals like these to get within 10 feet of them. If I saw one of them walking on the same sidewalk I was on, I’d cross the street and use the other sidewalk on the opposite side.

The first 2 pages of a tax return are of some interest — but it’s the rest that is important. We really need full tax returns to understand his source of income and the extent of his involvement with Russians and possible money laundering. The Trumpsters don’t care — but the rest of us may be really interested. Remember: Nixon was forced from office even after winning a true landslide victory; same could happen here.

One of the reasons I don’t buy the idea that this is all some masterful distraction by the White House is they’ve already got their excuse for Trumpcare’s failure: Paul Ryan fooled Trump into supporting this boondoggle and he should be the fall guy for it. Why would they suddenly junk that story and do so in a fashion that undermines their whole “My taxes are under audit!” excuse? Nothing we’ve seen from either Trump or Bannon indicates that they have an ounce of humanity in them, so why throw him a lifeline instead of an anchor?

This route I took yesterday, I thought I was going to have to turn around because of mud or snow, but I was able to pass through without too much trouble.

I also saw that pack of bighorn sheep that always hangs out right next to the road in Glenwood Canyon. Those animals are smart, not once in the time I’ve taken trips through that canyon since I was five years old have I seen a bighorn sheep step foot on the road.

“Nothing we’ve seen from either Trump or Bannon indicates that they have an ounce of humanity in them, so why throw him a lifeline instead of an anchor?”

I agree. And, besides, weren’t his supporters screaming that they liked him last year because he is sooo smart and would be a “strong leader?” If this is the case, it means that no one would dare push him around or take advantage of him. It also means that if they’re resorting to saying he’s been hoodwinked by the likes of Paul Ryan, Trump isn’t as smart as they think he is, and his leadership skills are weak. The Talking Yam shouldn’t have needed Ryan to write a healthcare bill because every chance he got last year he was screaming that he had a plan. Why didn’t he submit his plan to Ryan, let him tweak it, and then present it to the nation? Of course, the answer to this is that TY never had a plan. He didn’t even have a basic idea of what his healthcare plan would look like because the first thing out of his mouth after Ryan started working on his bill was, “I didn’t know how complicated healthcare could be.” All of them need to sit down and shut up, especially Cornyn who said that if Dems don’t like TrumpCare, they should write their own bill. Dude is clearly frustrated about the TrumpCare bill and is lashing out at Dems because he and his buddies don’t know crap about writing healthcare legislation. They sold a car to some Americans [repeal and replace,] told them it was in good shape, but they forgot to tell them the car has no wheels.

Cowards always feel a need to threaten and intimidate others, hoping that it will silence them. DCJ isn’t going to be intimidated by them no matter how many times they call his home and threaten him, his wife, and family. He mentioned on TRMS that he’s been doing this kind of work for 50 years. If I were him, if any of them showed up at my door, I’d dial 911 immediately. Cowards and bullies only seem to understand there are limits to their behavior when they get into some sort of legal trouble.

LOL, poor McMaster doesn’t understand that he holds the high card. Trump really can’t afford for him to quit. I wouldn’t put up with this micromanaging bullshit for one second, just go straight to the boss and say it’s him or me.

President Donald Trump has overruled a decision by his national security adviser, Lt. Gen. H.R. McMaster, to sideline a key intelligence operative who fell out of favor with some at the Central Intelligence Agency, two sources told POLITICO.

On Friday, McMaster told the National Security Council’s senior director for intelligence programs, Ezra Cohen-Watnick, that he would be moved to another position in the organization.

The conversation followed weeks of pressure from career officials at the CIA who had expressed reservations about the 30-year-old intelligence operative and pushed for his ouster.

But Cohen-Watnick appealed McMaster’s decision to two influential allies with whom he had forged a relationship while working on Trump’s transition team — White House advisers Steve Bannon and Jared Kushner. They brought the matter to Trump on Sunday, and the president agreed that Cohen-Watnick should remain as the NSC’s intelligence director, according to two people with knowledge of the episode.
