“I have a Jew”

Sorry, but that reminds me of a line from “Nick Danger, Third Eye”:

“HAVE AT YOU!”

“GESUNDHEIT!”

From my wit and wisdom of Lincoln: “The world has never had a good definition of the word liberty.” With the annotation referring to the Liberty paradox where one man’s freedom could jeopardize another’s. That’s what I think of these laws that attempt to give special privilege to religious people to discriminate as they see fit.

re: #4 HappyWarrior

Bah humbug.

A passage from “A Christmas Carol” I use on occasion:

“Oh, Man! look here. Look, look, down here!” exclaimed the Ghost.
They were a boy and girl. Yellow, meagre, ragged, scowling, wolfish; but prostrate, too, in their humility. Where graceful youth should have filled their features out, and touched them with its freshest tints, a stale and shrivelled hand, like that of age, had pinched, and twisted them, and pulled them into shreds. Where angels might have sat enthroned, devils lurked, and glared out menacing. No change, no degradation, no perversion of humanity, in any grade, through all the mysteries of wonderful creation, has monsters half so horrible and dread.
Scrooge started back, appalled. Having them shown to him in this way, he tried to say they were fine children, but the words choked themselves, rather than be parties to a lie of such enormous magnitude.
“Spirit! are they yours?” Scrooge could say no more.
“They are Man’s,” said the Spirit, looking down upon them. “And they cling to me, appealing from their fathers. This boy is Ignorance. This girl is Want. Beware them both, and all of their degree, but most of all beware this boy, for on his brow I see that written which is Doom, unless the writing be erased. Deny it!” cried the Spirit, stretching out its hand towards the city. “Slander those who tell it ye! Admit it for your factious purposes, and make it worse! And bide the end!”
“Have they no refuge or resource?” cried Scrooge.
“Are there no prisons?” said the Spirit, turning on him for the last time with his own words. “Are there no workhouses?”
The bell struck twelve.
Scrooge looked about him for the Ghost, and saw it not. As the last stroke ceased to vibrate, he remembered the prediction of old Jacob Marley, and lifting up his eyes, beheld a solemn Phantom, draped and hooded, coming, like a mist along the ground, towards him.

Trump is more the payday loan president, but hey, whatever…

If you really wanted to use the tax code to increase wages, here’s what you do:

Employers get a 5:4 tax credit for wages paid, excluding executives. So you pay $100 in wages, you get a tax credit for $125.

*blink*

MESA, Ariz. — American Airlines tried to charge a mom $150 to check a cooler of frozen breast milk at the gate, forcing the budget-conscious family to leave the eight pouches of milk behind.

Sarah Salow, 30, of the Phoenix suburb of Mesa, was traveling Dec. 7 with her husband and 13-month-old son from Boston to Phoenix. They had purchased basic economy tickets, which limit the amount of carry-on bags that passengers can bring.

Salow called American before her trip to make sure the cooler and breast milk were allowed and had no trouble carrying it on — free — on the flight from Phoenix to Boston.

The problem started when the family boarded the flight home.

snip

(Now I am getting pissed off big time, and this didn’t even happen to me or anyone I know):

Salow said she was told to start condensing her stuff into two bags. There was no room in the backpack or diaper bag for 40 ounces of frozen breast milk.

“It’s stiff,” she said. “I can’t just cram it into another bag.”

“If we can save the next mom in line, justice is served for me.”
Sarah Salow, Mesa, Ariz.

So she decided to leave it behind rather than pay $150 on top of the $50 in checked-bag fees she had already paid. It’s unclear how the $150 fee was calculated. An extra checked bag should have been $35 plus a $25 gate surcharge for basic economy passengers.

The agents yelled at Salow, she said, saying she should be thankful they saved her $150. She said she boarded the plane humiliated and hysterical.

When she saw plenty of room for bags on the plane, she said she asked a flight attendant if she could retrieve the cooler. She was told the supervisor said no.

Another passenger in line offered to carry on the cooler as part of their baggage allowance, and an airline baggage worker also offered to help. Both were told no, Salow said.

American Airlines spokeswoman Leslie Scott said Salow should have been able to take the cooler on the plane.

Well, I have a monopoly Internet provider and already pay nearly 10% of my disability to have service. If they jack up the prices here, I won’t be able to afford it any more.

My local ILEC (AT&T) managed to buyoff get legislation introduced that allowed them to no longer support POTS lines -and by extension, DSL (which this residence used to have-but no more.)

And Charter/Spectrum went out last Friday night for an extended period of time - had I not been primary on-call (which happens once every 4 weeks) I would have been up shit’s creek without a paddle. Now I’m forced to keep Verizon Wireless as a backup but even the Jetpack’s signal in my neck of the woods is sub-par. I ordered an external antenna for the Jetpack and hope that will solve some of the reception issues should this happen again - if it doesn’t, then I’m going to have to shell out some $300 for a cell signal-booster.

I may just go ahead and do that anyway so I can ditch AT&T’s lousy 3G femto-cell….

Funny thing is that T-Mobile had WiFi calling years before Big Blue and Big Red had it - I had a Nokia 6301 that supported WiFi calling back in 2007.

But it looks like I’m stuck keeping Verizon around as an internet backup - my only other option is satellite and that would be more expensive than Verizon’s unlimited plan.

I should have mentioned that Senator Sullivan and Representative Young are also collecting their 30 pieces of silver. Opening ANWR for oil drilling is the Holy Grail for the Alaska delegation. Any piece of legislation opening ANWR will automatically get their vote no matter how bad the legislation is.

No, I’m not home yet. Flight leaves Saturday morning US time. Still another 38 hours in-country before I’m even in the air, and then another 28 hours before I’m back in the snowy and frigid wild north country.

On that topic, it is amusing to talk to foreigners about Minnesota weather. Here in India, aside from some of the northern mountainous states where temperatures can range down around freezing, the typical low temperature is between 50 and 60 degrees F (10 to 15 degrees C). When I tell them that the current low in MN is -15 degrees C and the lows can range as far as -40 degrees C, they look at me like I’m some kind of madman and how can anyone LIVE in those kinds of conditions?!

In one corner, you have Dumbo Jr saying liberals can’t hate it because “Pai was Obama’s FCC commish.”(He wasn’t) and then you got others cheering it because they think that the Obama policy invented what we know as NN when it actually strengthened. I’m not going to be happy to see ISPs increase their charges and negatively impact people but I’m going to laugh at these right wing clowns who can’t get access to their right wing circle jerks who will blame the left for that when it’s actual the direct result of a dumbass they supported.

Okkkkaaayyyy.

Slow down that train of thought. These things do not fit together.

Self esteem has been stomped on by his old man probably a good portion of his life.

Remember the story of his college mates talking about daddy coming to college to pick him up. Daddy was seen smacking Jr. in the mouth and then saying, get ready we’re leaving.

That was in public. What do you think has gone on behind the gilded doors?

Self esteem means people with very little allow people to accept abuse.

With that in mind, I think Jr. relies on trying to be some kind of badass on twitter to be someone.

That trying so hard to be somebody now that he has this national attention leads him to post stupid stuff. But it gives him needed attention, so he will be back for more because this may be all he has, as ignorant as it is.

I don’t twitter. So, my comment is contained here, not sent as a tweet back to Jr.

And the comment was an attempt to explain Trump Jr. and how he gets himself trapped.

This is also the way he will fall prey to the investigations. He tries too hard to please daddy. Daddy doesn’t care as he is using him like he uses everyone.

If he gets in deep, where will that Daddy be then? How sorry will the actual father feel?

And sorry, I have trouble feeling sorry for the Trumps while they destroy this country.

And with that…later. Got stuff to do.

Fantastic.

I would wear a sari in a minute, seriously.

I had a friend who brought me 2 of them years ago. Absolutely stunning. Problem was finding a place to wear them. I finally used the silk to cover a couple of pillows and make curtains.

re: #34 The Major

If my provider (CenturyLink) decides to end wire line service, I’m done. The wireless tower here in town does not put a signal on my house four blocks away (Viero). It’s antennas are oriented to put lobes up and down US-26 (but even then, you can only get a signal for about a mile).

The Colorado company now negotiating with our village board to provide service for the town and surrounding rural area says it will be up to two years before they go on-line.

This could be great news for the Post Office and mail order companies.

Right. Agh. It just amazes me that people who think the government is evil have no problem with corporate power getting too much.

It’s usually because they think they won’t be serfs too.

Peasants

The lowest social rank in the Middle Ages were the peasants. The peasant class included Freemen, who had some rights and land, serfs, who had no rights, and slaves, who were bought and sold.

Freemen

Freeman were poor farmers who had control of small portions of land. Freeman usually made just enough money to live on. They sold their crops and may have worked with a trade. Wives of freeman sometimes did “stay-at-home” trades, such as brewing ale.

Serfs

Serfs had no political power and were not allowed having control of property. They lived on the property of a noble vassal, and, in order to repay the vassal for letting the serf live on his property, the serf worked the land and was at the disposal of the vassal. Serfs were slaves in all but name.

So no-one in the village of the manor was really free - free to leave, free to marry who they wanted, free to follow a different job, etc. The Miller’s got that name cause they ran the Baron’s mill. Nothing else. Smith because of the blacksmith shop. And so on. Coming soon to your town! And don’t forget to practice at the range all Sunday afternoon so you’ll be ready when you’re required to go to war for your master. But there’ll always be cheap beer/weed/whatever at the tavern every night and circus games on telly to keep you easily amused.

Meanwhile the richest will fight over who gets the crown and the biggest spoils from the corpse of America…

I wasn’t even issuing a rebuke with my first comment. I was trying to keep it very mild, because I just wanted to point out the weird parsing.

Second response…I may have been a bit annoyed, but it wasn’t at you. It’s at this generic thing that Twitter encourages where you diagnose people from afar as a way of either dissing them or dismissing them.

I realize I sound very sharp, and I’m sorry.

Has anybody heard of how people are talking about protesting the tax scam, by withholding their monthly tax deductions?
Basically you put your withholdings in a savings account, then just pay in April.
If enough people did this could cause big problems for the government.
Heard it on a show on SiriusXM today.

You have to pay at least quarterly or get hit with late fees. Might be worth it though.

Ironically repealing NN may make it harder for them to broadcast their views. Idiots.

Withholding is the employers responsibility. Not an option. Unless you change your w-4.
