Jacob Collier and His Mom Suzie: “Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire”

A legendary Christmas song, performed by Jacob(s) and Suzie!
Nice!
And the family thing makes it even better.
Happy Holidays to all, Dear Lizards.
Presents have been opened for another year — the best stuff I got: a book called “Coyote America” by Dan Flores (a natural history nonfiction book about coyotes, natch), enough Amazon gift card loot to actually frighten me, a handmade glass rocket my sister made for me, and a nice new jacket.
I probably spent way too much on everyone else this year — and now I have to worry if I’ll be able to get this much next year for everyone once I’ve gone broke… :/

Tee hee! Busted!
There are very few people in my family for whom I would buy holiday presents.
My sister and I pooled resources and purchased an apartment-sized washing machine and microwave oven for my mother in Chicago. They were delivered and set up a couple days ago. (My mother can no longer get into the basement laundry of her apartment building.)
Our friend in Victoria, BC (who sent us the Tim Horton’s coffee and chocolate) received knitted slippers, mittens, and two toques my wife made.
My wife and I do not usually buy specific holiday gifts for each other (mostly because we surprise each other with gifts all year long).

As his pseudonym indicates, a pundit online, who hung around the Salem Communications websites, PJM, etc. He usually towed the “conservative” (read wingnut or glibertarian) line, except when it came to fundamentalist religious stuff.
It’s going to be cold (for us) and rainy on Christmas… and get colder all week.
I hatez winter.
re: #6 freetoken
Thanks. I’ve seen that name quoted before, but I never knew who the person was. Salem Media sites were never something that interested me much.
I just wanted to pop in and wish everyone a happy and merry everything and FFS let’s hope this coming year is better than this train wreck has been.
Our houseguests are settling in, presents under the tree, little one is sleeping and the grown ups are having a drink and a snack. We have many miles to go and lots of healing for all of us to do, but we have each other so maybe we’ll be ok. That’s all I got right now.
And thanks again to my secret Santa who gave me another year of LGF, I’m touched by your generosity and kindness. Love to all of you and thanks to Charles for keeping this place going. Hugs!!!!

She was just the very, very best.
And what she calls “gravelly”, I call “sexy”….
re: #32 The Very Reverend Battleaxe of Knowledge
She wasn’t trying for sexy. She was just singing things straight up, and nobody else has ever been able to do it just like that.
Heading out to the 11pm carols and communion service in a few minutes. Got my mom to the 5pm service with my son, then home to make her oyster stew and let her open ALL of her presents. None of this ‘wait for the morning’ for that little old lady. She says it’s a Norwegian tradition, but it’s also because her dad worked swing shift at the Anaconda Copper smelter for years, so they opened their presents when he got home at midnight. Not too many presents in the depths of the Great Depression, but lots of memories in 94 years.
Best surprise of the day — a tin of popcorn from the neighbor mom of the three little kids who walk past us every weekday on their way to the elementary school. They dressed up as ‘the three bears’ for Halloween, so that’s what we call them now. Hubby chats with them whenever he’s out working on the front flowerbeds — lets them pick flowers and strawberries in season, and they all enjoy themselves. That man has a big red ‘S’ for ‘Sucker’ on his forehead that any little kid can see. Going to be a hoot to watch him with grandkids someday (but not soon, thank you, our son is only 20).
Merry Christmas to those who celebrate; hope for a relatively peaceful day tomorrow for all of the Lizards. Love this sane-crazy little corner of the internets: music, critters, political insights, support, pizza fights, friendship, food pics, and pun threads. Especially the pun threads. Thank you, Charles, for this sandbox, and good wishes for all of you out there.
Merry Christmas all, and for one blessed day please let Trump STFU.

This DK diary has a couple of interesting nuggets:
“Mnuchin is just play-acting,” says one investment strategist. “It looks like he was instructed to go out and do something, and he jumped on the first thing he thought of.”
The panic right now seems to come not from the market — which is indeed operating so far as it should — but from the Treasury Secretary, responding to the President.
And:
President Trump has weighed dismissing Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin, a source familiar with the president’s thinking told Bloomberg News.
Another source told Bloomberg said that Mnuchin’s future at the helm of the Treasury Department depends on whether the market continues to drop.
Trump’s unhappiness with his treasury chief was reported the day after Mnuchin released a statement seeking to reassure financial markets as stocks continued to plunge. Mnuchin’s statement came following reports that Trump was considering firing Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell.

Richard Nixon?
Nah, Nixon is the Ghost of Impeachment Present, showing Donny all the people who are suffering because of his presidency, as well as his former cronies who are watching their lives crumble due to their guilty pleas.
Next, the Ghost of Impeachment Future will show up: Mike Pence in a black robe, showing him the future where he’s sitting in a jail cell, while President Pelosi signs bills into law that reverse much of the damage done by his failed presidency before swearing in Justice Garland.

Pretty soon his entire Cabinet will consist of Acting This and Acting That.
How convenient for the XXV Amendment. Can an Acting Cabinet member vote to remove a President from office temporarily?
Section 4. Whenever the Vice President and a majority of either the principal officers of the executive departments or of such other body as Congress may by law provide, transmit to the President pro tempore of the Senate and the Speaker of the House of Representatives their written declaration that the President is unable to discharge the powers and duties of his office, the Vice President shall immediately assume the powers and duties of the office as Acting President.

As I understand it, even an acting Cabinet secretary has to be confirmed by the Senate. In that case, he or she would be a Constitutional Cabinet secretary with all the powers vested in the office.

I believe I have found Donald’s next trophy wife: Anna “Delvey”.
And then came the decisive moment: an episode that unfolded like the climax of a staged drama. Anna reappeared in the lobby of the trainer’s apartment, just as I left civil court. The trainer called me immediately and we decided to confront Anna together. The trainer also invited a friend of hers—someone she thought would be helpful—and the four of us convened at the Frying Pan, a bar on the West Side Highway. Anna was crying behind oversize sunglasses. She was wearing the same dress that she’d worn for weeks (a loan from her night’s stay in the trainer’s apartment). “Have you seen what they’re saying about me?” she whined. Apparently, the night before, an article had come out in the New York Post calling Anna a “wannabe socialite.” She’d stiffed the Beekman for her stay. Her belongings had been detained. She was being charged with several misdemeanor offenses, including an embarrassing dine-and-dash incident.
At an outdoor table, surrounded by young professionals boisterously enjoying after-work drinks, the four of us existed in our own little world. “We are here because we want to help you,” the trainer began. “But to do that, we need to hear some truth from you, Anna.” It was the same old song and dance: Anna stuck to her story, claiming that all she’d said was true; nothing was her fault. Anna sat across from me as the women relentlessly pressed for answers, for names, for a way to reach Anna’s family. I said very little as I watched. I seemed to float outside of my body, while tears ran down my cheeks. Against the raised voices and direct accusations, Anna’s face assumed an unsettling blankness. Her eyes were empty. I suddenly realized that I didn’t know her at all. With this epiphany came a sort of release and a strange calmness. I understood the women’s anger and disbelief; I’d had those feelings for months. But I had come through to the other side, and I knew that there was only one answer.
The next day, I e-mailed the New York County District Attorney’s Office, linking to an article about Anna: “I think this girl is a con artist,” I wrote. An hour later, my cell phone rang. The caller I.D. read “United States.” I picked up the phone, as I stepped away from my desk. “We think you’re right,” a voice said.
My wife made a movie script suggestion for an existing franchise.

Nebraska becomes the fifth state to join PSYPACT. It is an interstate compact which becomes active when seven states join it, allowing streamlined care and treatment amongst professionals and patients across state lines, including telecare.
Illinois previously joined the compact, but it does not become active in that state until 2020 (assuming two more states join the compact).
The Scottsbluff, Nebr. Star-Herald has details of the interstate compact and how it works here.
Approved in February 2015 by the ASPPB Board of Directors, the Psychology Interjurisdictional Compact (PSYPACT) has been created to facilitate telehealth and temporary in-person, face-to-face practice of psychology across jurisdictional boundaries. PSYPACT is an interstate compact, which is an agreement between states to enact legislation and enter into a contract for a specific, limited purpose or address a particular policy issue.

That and despite Mr. Biden being widely popular, he will not be around forever, even if there is nothing to indicate he couldn’t complete an entire term.

Is Cole actually a grifter who didn’t believe in Holocaust denial but thought it was a gig that would bring him money?
I think he was serious about denial (thinking himself an actual skeptic) up until about 1995.
After that, as he freely admits, he played both sides for money. Producing bona-fide Holocaust documentaries under one pseudonym, and denial materials under some others simultaneously.
Currently I wouldn’t call him a Holocaust denier (since he came to admit a) existence of extermination camps for Jews; b) extermination policies against Jews; c) millions of deaths due to these policies; d) including mass gassings in the camps on an industrial scale), but he does cling onto some denier claims, esp. in regard to Auschwitz, so I call him an Auschwitz denier.

Oto możliwy prezent od mojego drogiego męża. Ta (stara) edycja zawiera tekst w języku angielskim i polskim. Polski jest łatwiejszy do odczytania - złe tłumaczenie.
Maria Ochorowicz-Monatowa to ikona polskiej sztuki kulinarnej.

Here is a possible gift from my dear husband. This (old) edition contains text in English and Polish. Polish is easier to read - bad translation.
Maria Ochorowicz-Monatowa is an icon of Polish culinary art. The versatile cookbook contains more than two thousand two hundred recipes. The author has not only included meals, but also plenty of advice on a healthy diet and recommended nutrition for various diseases. A new section is devoted to vegetarian cuisine. In addition to very simple and basic recipes, it also contains recipes for more sophisticated dishes.

I was sitting here thinking, what’s the last horror film I saw that really made my skin crawl? Not scare me or frighten me…..but rather, left with me feeling disturbed?
Probably Noroi, directed by Kōji Shiraishi.
Honorable mention goes to (of all things) Event Horizon, which also falls into the category of “if only they’d had another three weeks to edit the film, it would’ve been a damn masterpiece”.

It’s the Pentagon, not a Chinese restaurant

Motherfucker. I guess this is the new normal in Trumpland 😡
On Monday, a CBP agent noticed that the boy, who was apprehended with his father, “showed signs of potential illness,” CBP says, citing initial reporting.
— NBC News (@NBCNews) December 25, 2018
When the boy was evaluated for release, hospital staff found a fever and he was held for an additional 90 minutes before being released on Monday afternoon, CBP says. The boy was given prescriptions for amoxicillin, an antibiotic, and the painkiller ibuprofen.

So far I have found nothing besides info from the CBP press release. I want to know where they were apprehended. Alamagordo is an hour and a half drive from the border.

8-year-old Guatemalan boy dies in US custody
Deterrent effect…bring your children here and they might die.

Enjoy! it’s great fun and Nintendo brought in a bunch of people from Skyrim to teach them how to do an open world. They learned well.
When you’ve finally come up for air from it, be sure to try Warframe - it’s a free to play download.

Jordan Peterson declared yesterday he is no longer an atheist.
As it turns out if you’ve followed any of his nonsensical rhetoric, he was never an atheist. He just kept trying to redefine religion or Christianity to mean things they don’t mean so he could define atheism as a religion.

re: #272 Dr Lizardo
I was sitting here thinking, what’s the last horror film I saw that really made my skin crawl? Not scare me or frighten me…..but rather, left with me feeling disturbed?
Probably Noroi, directed by Kōji Shiraishi.
Honorable mention goes to (of all things) Event Horizon, which also falls into the category of “if only they’d had another three weeks to edit the film, it would’ve been a damn masterpiece”.
V loves Event Horizon. I found it predictable.
