Trump’s Anti-DOE Head of the DOE: Who Cares if Your Kids Spread Coronavirus and Die? The Schools Must Open!

Politics • Views: 18,549

MP4 Video

The Trump Horror just continues to spiral into madness. This deranged administration is full of monsters who simply do not care how many people have to get sick and die to get the economy going again and help Donald Trump get re-elected. They don’t even care about children. As the pandemic rages out of control, with 137,000 people dead and case numbers rising exponentially, Betsy DeVos says America should ignore the health experts, even though there will be “exceptions to the rule.”

She’s talking about dead children, folks. That’s who she considers “exceptions.”

They think the American public will just get used to the death toll. Hey, they can always have more kids, right?

The cynicism of the Trump era: Sending a woman who wants to close public schools to argue that they must be open in the fall, not as a means of ensuring education for the masses but because they’re taxpayer funded daycare centers for the working and middle class who the administration need back at work before November.

A Cheetah Walks Right Into a Leopard.

A friend from South Africa sent me this. Whoa! I love cats of all sorts, but cheetahs are a special favorite. So you can tell the cheetah survived or I would have buried the clip and been sick. But the power of the leopard is just amazing. Both big cats are used to cars and people, and get quite close.

“Trump wears mask in public, tells voters to take virus seriously” would have been a significant news story 3 months and 137,000 deaths ago. Now? Now it’s more newsworthy that his staff had to break down and beg him to wear a mask simply so they could try (and fail miserably) to neutralize the stupidity that has built up in their base.

I’m not enough of a philosopher to say this eloquently, but I feel this is another example of a tendency that should frighten us: again, we’re watching a person with power over us argue (implicitly) that the symbol value of a thing matters so much more than the functional value of that thing that the human cost—kids or people in contact with kids getting sick—simply shouldn’t be considered.

Things that should be about assessing functional outcomes are now aesthetic expressions and it keeps getting people killed—mostly soldiers and people trapped in regions we’re doing military action in—but now that tendency to remove human cost in favor of a superficial semblance of normalcy is expanding to everything.

I realize I hammer on this a lot, but there is a clear profit-driven motive, but there is also a more opaque cultural drive to this: a bunch of people in this country are comfortable with very real, material harm as long as they can feel comfortable inside themselves…but are also willing to inflict even more harm because the rest of us aren’t risking ourselves to make them feel at ease.

If Trump were serious about sending kids back in the fall he would have a planning commission to investigate ways to implement that safely: building auxiliary classrooms to reduce crowding, adding teachers to decrease class size and other measures to reduce contact and exposure.

All of which would cost money.

They would rather we pay with human lives.

You know and I know that the right-wing response to that will inevitably be, BUT IT DOESN’T AFFECT KIDS MUCH AT ALL!!!1!111onety However, the science is still out on that - all indications are that kids can develop some highly damaging complications following a COVID infection. And that’s without taking into account that literally every child will become a carrier and thus entire communities will be sidelined nearly simultaneously with infected adults. You want to shut down the economy involuntarily? Taking out your entire workforce in one fell swoop will do that, and that’s exactly what will happen if we fully reopen the schools.

Trump supporters (not the political elites like McConnell) are all so tied into his mendacious rhetoric that they are incapable of rational thought and just regurgitate today’s GOP talking points. Our brother seriously told us that the reason that our nation no longer is respected is due to Pelosi and the machinations of the Deep State; he was pleased to tell us that Trump wore a mask at Walter Reed. And then he tells us that their daughter and her family are diving down to Texas in a couple weeks to join them for a few days of vacation. Driving from Michigan to Texas? re: #87 Teddy’s Person

Thanks. I ordered something very similar, just slightly different size. Cost a couple of dollars more than your link, but the products look very similar.

Floor towels are fine, but I prefer the old fashioned rubber-backed carpet types. But it appears as if rubber-backing is now out, and PVC backing is in. Problem is PVC is slippery on water, which sort of defeats the whole purpose in my opinion. But the problem with rubber is that people would wash the mats and then put them in the dryer, which of course destroys the rubber. So now we’ve got PVC which holds up better but is less functional.

Wonder if they might have a list of those things he was “wrong” about?

(Via Daily Beast) Against this backdrop, an unnamed White House official told the Post: “Several White House officials are concerned about the number of times Dr. Fauci has been wrong on things.” The official attached a list of incorrect predictions Fauci had made, including his doubts early on that asymptomatic spread would play a large role in transmission and a February assurance that Americans did not need to change their behavior. Like many other public health officials, Fauci said at first that masks were not necessary but recently recommended that they be mandated nationwide.

”Dr. Fauci has a good bedside manner with the public but he has been wrong about everything I have ever interacted with him on,” Peter Navarro, the president’s trade adviser, told the Post in a separate statement. “Now Fauci is saying that a falling mortality rate doesn’t matter when it is the single most important statistic to help guide the pace of our economic reopening. So when you ask me if I listen to Dr. Fauci’s advice, my answer is only with caution.”

re: #89 Love-Child of Cassandra and Sisyphus

Yeah, the choice is a bit overwhelming.

In my bathroom, I have a washable cotton rug but I’ve got a piece of rubber mat like this underneath that’s slightly smaller than the rug. It’s not perfect, but it’s a lot less slippery than just the rug on the floor.

People are going to continue to die from this.
People are going to continue to needlessly die from this.

The other thing that made AR-15/AK-47 sales shoot up was that everyone who wanted a hunting rifle pretty much had one by the late 80s. The gun mags started filling up with articles about so-called “Wildcat” rounds, but those didn’t really move.

Then they hit upon freaking the shit out of the yokels with visions of jackbooted gummint thugs & hordes of Brown People descending on them, and sold them the “black guns” as the only thing standing between them & total destruction.

Even that couldn’t keep it going. Hence the Modern Sporting Rifle schtick that gun industry has been pushing. Your old bolt action hunting rifles are obsolete! As much as the black powder before them! Now your grandfathers went to war and learned to love the Bolt so to You learned to love the AR (for that fraction who actually served but I digress…) in the Army (I learned to hate it in the Army but I digress again). So every hunter should replace their Bolt rifles with AR rifles in multiple calibers! (especially since 5.56 is barely adequate as a hunting round hence all the .30 & 6mm versions).

And, for some of us, the only reason to consider a black gun, is to defend against the black gun owners… I’ll stick to my socialist roots and get an AK47 if I ever go to the dark side.

Yeah, if you have a 5.56mm for hunting game, you’re either hunting for small game, or you’re lying. For rifle hunting, I wouldn’t take anything smaller than a .30-06 into the woods with me, and even then, I wouldn’t stand a chance against a moose or a grizzly.

I thought moose might have bones too thick for the older round (if shooting the head). I suppose there are other places to shoot a moose that would stop it effectively. Myself, if I were to have a hunting rifle, I’d go with a .308, but rifle hunting is only legal a ways north of me. It’s a bit academic anyway, as I have dedicated myself to never keeping a gun in this house due to the danger posed by mental health struggles.

Slightly behind the shoulder blade and center of mass with a proper expanding bullet and a 7mm will take any north american game appropriately.

As for the other: Respect. I sold all of my semi-automatic firearms (at a massive loss) when my son was diagnosed. It’s ok now due to good med compliance though I still only own one semi-auto and it’s with me or locked up tight when he’s around.

Hi Lizards, jumping back in before too many comments pile up and I get the failure to load thing again.

I took the day off yard work and decided to watch the first two episodes of I’ll Be Gone In The Dark. Wow. It’s the story of Patton Oswald’s first wife Michelle McNamara’s work to find the identity of The Golden State Killer. She died before the work was completed so Patton made sure it was finished out of love and respect for her.

It’s angering, heartbreaking and exhausting. Not for the faint of heart and if you are a rape survivor it might be too much. It’s a 6 part series, I think only two episodes are available right now. It’s well done, and Michelle’s own obsession is interwoven with the stories of some of the survivors (there are at least 50 cases all involve rape, some both that and murder). I found myself getting sucked in and true crime really isn’t my thing.

In counterpoint, if crap is getting too overwhelming, catch the 2012 film Renoir. It shows the Summer of 1915 in the extended family of the aging artist. The story of his last great model is slow, calm, barely dramatic, almost boring. But it’s absolutely beautiful. The camera moves through its scenes, delivering a dozen Renoir-like images per minute.

Gyaaaaah, 11 hours working on Sunday is not the life for me.

Had to rework a client network on off-hours, which is fair enough. But it went totally pear shaped because half the networking gear was the wrong parts. That the onsite techs were moderately hapless was almost secondary.

If only I could punch the vendor who sent us the wrong part, obviously used, for a switch model so old I’ve never seen one (though of course it fit in the slot just fine, AAAARGH).

I want to go hide under thick blankets. Except it’s too hot here. And I’m caffiened.

re: #180 NetworkKed

Gyaaaaah, 11 hours working on Sunday is not the life for me.

Had to rework a client network on off-hours, which is fair enough. But it went totally pear shaped because half the networking gear was the wrong parts. That the onsite techs were moderately hapless was almost secondary.

If only I could punch the vendor who sent us the wrong part, obviously used, for a switch model so old I’ve never seen one (though of course it fit in the slot just fine, AAAARGH).

I want to go hide under thick blankets. Except it’s too hot here. And I’m caffiened.

How was your weekend?

Had to work a full shift yesterday after someone got hurt, but ended up with today off thank god. Given that, a shot and a beer in your honor, dude.

So Florida reports 15,300 new cases in a day. Story after story hits the news, for weeks now, of some dumbass “not believing in COVID”, hanging with crowds of fellow dumb asses, getting tremendously sick and dying a few days later. After infecting who knows how many others along the way. It’s becoming a nearly daily story on my newsfeed. Same shit, different arrogant human.

You know, for people who believe so much in signs from God and all that, you would think it would occur to some of these infected doorknobs that maybe, just perhaps, all this death and destruction could be one of their damned signs. I’m so tired of paying for the shit results of other people’s outright fuckery and purposeful, spiteful shit.

Nojay UK  Jul 12, 2020 • 4:47:45pm

re: #235 William Lewis

Not quite — the Rods From God need to be decelerated quite significantly (i.e. the expenditure of lots of stored fuel) before they bite into the upper atmosphere at which point all the expensive kinetic energy starts to bleed away as air friction slows the projectile down. Once it gets into really dense air this gets worse with a lot of the rod’s energy being dissipated as shock and blast over many kilometres — see the Chelyabinsk bolide explosion a few years ago for a worked example.

Guidance is another bitch — surrounding the targetting system’s sensors with plasma at multiple thousands of degrees (F or C, at those temps it doesn’t make much difference) messes up what it can see and allow it to to control where it is going to land. In contrast modern ground-attack missiles are scarily accurate at distances of tens or hundreds of kilometres, can track moving targets attempting to evade etc. and they use variable-effect explosive warheads that can be “tuned” in flight to attack different kinds of targets. See the British Brimstone II missile for an example (the US doesn’t have anything like it, they’re looking at restarting their JAGM project to fill in the gap).

Yup. Same for atheists. We’re baby killers. We hate Christians. We’re possessed by demons. We’re perverted and amoral. They shun us from society. Sometimes in this country they kill us.

And I catch crap when I say I’m afraid of Christians with a litany of

I don’t hate them, I am afraid of them until I’m shown by one I don’t have a reason to be about that person.

She’s BAAACK on Medium, and is in fact a real person. Caren White is now saying what she really meant was she was only concerned for poor people who might need to bake bread.

If she was in fact a real bread baker (like, ya know, ME!) she would know how to get organic flour & yeast in bulk, from a local bakery. I bought a 50-lb bag of flour (which is all used up now) & a 1-lb bag of yeast (which is not used up yet). But she just wanted to whine and complain on The Internet, then got all insulted when The Internet said FUCK YOU!

And she would also know how to make her own starter or sponge.

I know the Right has more numbers, but I’m constantly pissed off at Left Twitter for their constant, sub-rosa antisemitism. I saw a thread from an activist that said, as best I can paraphrase, “Jews should not call themselves indigenious”. I like to fight Left Twitter, but I couldn’t even make myself read the thread.

I just can’t even, with the implications, knowing that a lot of leftists put Native Americans on a pedestal just as the Right does with veterans.

Great. Gov. Ricketts is forcing the TestNebraska programme on our regional hospital from the liebertarians in Utah who have no experience in medical supply on our regional hospital to augment testing capability with a test shown to be far less accurate than the “government school” tests provided by the University of Nebraska.

I’m a little late to the “let’s rename the Washington sportsball team” party. My suggesting it to call them the Washington Irvings.

In Desperation, Trump’s Floundering Campaign Resorts to THREATENING Donors

Here are a couple samples.

ERIC TRUMP: How do you want to be remembered?
As a Patriot who fought to Keep America Great? Or as an un-American Liberal who stood idly by as Radical Democrats ripped our Nation apart?

Team Trump just informed me that you haven’t accepted my father’s offer to join the Trump 100 Club, and I have to admit, I’m pretty disappointed.

DONALD TRUMP JR: I hate to be the one to tell you, but according to our records, your Trump 100 Club offer has been RESCINDED.

You’ve received multiple emails from Team Trump, including my father, inviting you to join this BRAND NEW, prestigious club, and you’ve ignored every single one of them.

President Trump knows that you’ve always been such a strong supporter in the past, so he agreed to let me REACTIVATE your offer for ONE MORE DAY.

Official slogan of Trump supporters: Thank you sir! May I have another!

My invertebrate Republican senator.
This is him showing he’s a “moderate” and has a partial spinous process where a spine should be.
Meanwhile, he’s rubber stamped every Trump appointee and of course voted for acquital.
Hope he has plans for a future outside of politics as I am making it my raison d’etre to see him permanently ousted from elected office at every and any level.
