As Expected, Trump Defends White Supremacist Charged With 1st Degree Murder of Protesters [VIDEO]

I wonder if there’s anyone left in Trump’s crime family to try to talk him out of openly defending accused racist murderers. If there is, they failed again.

Remember the code: “Agitators” “Protesters” “Antifa” “BLM” “Deep State”, “Democrat led cities” “rioters” “Radical left”

It all means the same thing: If you don’t kiss Trumps ass, if you’re not part of his cult, then you’re an enemy of the state and you should be dealt with as such…violently if necessary.

To the extent that “patriotic” means “USA no. 1”, the idea that we aren’t already there and that education doesn’t whitewash the darker parts of American history is pretty laughable.

How long before a school board in Texas or Kansas explicitly references the need to have more “patriotic” education?

George Washington, Baby Jesus and Rev. Cotton Mather wrote the Declaration of Independence. Slavery is good because otherwise Black People would be cannibal savages in Africa (see George Fitzhugh). The War of Northern Aggression violated states’ rights and ruined a perfectly good country. Donald J. Trump is the best president there ever was or ever will be. Oh and 2 + 2 = 5

The Trump Crime Family (every single member of it) is much more concerned with staying out of prison. If they lose the election, they are immediately on their way to Rikers.

They will do anything, say anything, coddle every misfit racist and xenophobic Putin-boot-licker is order to curry favor with the abjectly Deplorable 35% of this country who want a racist 70’s South African-style government for all of us.

This means every single notion of country, loyalty, oath, ethics, law, and Constitutionality is at 100% play. Ivanka, Jared, Jr, ALL OF THEM are so knee-deep in fraud, racketeering and larceny charges that they will throw the entire country into a blazing fire and stomp upon its ashes in order to remain free to fleece the next group of marks.

re: #37 Belafon

I am approaching this how I have long approached creationists and those caught in cults.

Because what we are seeing with Trump and is followers are exactly those things.

Same people.

The basic plan is simply to persevere, but that alone won’t work. One has to constantly challenge those in the cult with questions (not just facts) that make them answer questions they want to avoid. The problem with confronting cognitive errors is that there are no guarantees the person who is trapped (in this case a mixture of fundamentalism and bigotry) can make the changes needed.

If fixing these things were easy they would have been done already.

Again, the first step is to persevere. This is why the 2020 election calls for all of us to vote and help others vote.

43
Love-Child of Cassandra and Sisyphus  Aug 31, 2020 • 4:20:38pm

So, here’s my challenge (which I am taking): instead of unfriending all your Trumper Facebook acquaintances/relatives, instead ask them probing questions about their posts, their accusations, etc.

The goal is to make them actually form an answer, to make them more self aware of what they are doing.

This can force people to either 1) become more dishonest and pretend they don’t know what they are doing, or 2) actually engage in a meaningful conversation.

There are many, if not most, of these Trump Cult members that are already too far gone. They have left this planet, this reality, and invented their own to take to their graves.

The main goal of resistance should be not to change their minds, but to demonstrate to their kids and to others at risk to not follow their parents and grandparents off the cliff into a reality only subscribed to by 2% of the world.

This rant isn’t about persuading anyone to vote for him, it is about giving the proud boys and III%s and gun-church gangs the green light for a rampage they have planned for years.

I don’t see how we can avoid a bloody showdown. It isn’t hopeless, they are stupid and arrogant and they can be defeated. I believe very decisively. Find the seams, the gaps in their knowledge and the failings of their worldview and exploit them. For instance, they know nothing of cover and concealment, low visibility and keeping a low profile. This is inherent in their ideology and motivation, which is based entirely on display.

Yeah, not many of his flying monkeys can, or will, get off the ground. The ones who do take action will run into a buzzsaw of forces they did not believe existed, and that will further discourage the mass from getting off their Laz-y-boys to join in.There are millions of them, though, so there could be quite a few casualties.

As someone who recently had two strokes, I can tell you that even though mine were very minor, it takes an enormous toll on your body. It took me at least six weeks before I felt physically normal and where I wasn’t bumping into shit, losing my balance, etc. I have no doubt that Trump’s “physical” was a stroke(s), and that he is at a serious risk for more given his awful diet and morbid obesity. I would be shocked if he lives two more years.

Due to early poll closings (Kentucky, Indiana, South Carolina, West Virginia), FFVCS will claim the early lead.

North Carolina (my home base) will be the harbinger. The polls close at 7:30, but the state allows for the tabulation of early voting at that time. In recent history, some 60 to 65 percent of the vote is cast early (One-Stop voting begins on October 15). Whatever that vote is trending is what one can expect.

In other words, if NC is going for Biden (and Cal Cunningham for Senate), FFVCS is a goner.

My county is overwhelmingly FFVCS. It went for it with 75 percent of the vote in 2016. And it is utterly depressing to see not only yard signs, but also full flags and poles for this dipshit.

And I shudder to think what might happen if it orders an armed uprising among its supporters when it loses.

Considering how reactionaries have stretched the term “self defense” to justify decontextualizing violent acts to a very precise degree (when it’s one of them that did it) this is a pretty natural next step.

I’m not saying that it will work, but I think this kind of argument tells you what they want.

I’ve talked about conservative cant before, but there a ton of it in and around the “gun culture.” Including the fact that “gun culture” is largely about creating a cultural distinction of who gets to use lethal force, and who deserves lethal force. We’re watching an experiment with truth and meaning: can they stretch the idea “self defense” and “militia” to cover more and more aggressive violent behavior?

Well, it would backfire badly if they did succeed. The USC defines the militia as men from 17 to 45 and women who are commissioned officers in the national guard. This if you want to go there, no men over 45 or most women would have any legal right to own a firearm.

Has anyone read the probable cause statement? I swear the prosecutor was prepping a self defense case for the defense. Everywhere along the line they pointed out someone else was the initial aggressor, that the first guy tried to take his gun before he shot, that as he was running away people were shouting things like “beat him up” and “get his ass”, kicked him while he was down struck him with a skateboard and tried to take his gun. This is in the prosecutors charging docs. The kid is either going to walk or get a slap on the wrist. This prosecutor is prosecuting because they thought they had to to keep the peace, not because they want a conviction.

Understand that it could have chosen a different path. It could have been conciliatory and re-affirmed Merrick Garland to the Supreme Court. It could have supported and improved upon Obamacare. It could have denounced Charlottesville. It could have just played golf for four years (no change there) and let the country run on its own. And it would have had approval ratings of 55-60 percent. But it chose to go the white-supremacist, authoritarian route. And it should pay the price.

I work for a government agency. And we have been repeatedly warned against overt political activism. But if it “wins,” I will gladly join the front lines of any nationwide strike or protest, regardless of the cost to my career, health insurance or status in this ultra-fascist section of North Carolina. Yes, I should be at the front lines now. But my wife is seriously ill, and I can’t put everything on the line just yet. Any criticism that one wishes to direct is warranted.

I only wish I were able to do more. I can give my money, my covert voice and advice, and my hope that we have not completely lost our way as a country. We are so much better than this.

WTH?

That’s what I’ve been saying to CenturyLink.

They’ve twice postponed repairing my service. I suspect it’s because of the recent hurricane; they’ve probably drawn every repair worker they have to repair their network down south.

That said, the problem could also be my router/modem. It continually resets. Monitoring the other routers in town with my laptop, I can see that none of them drop out.

Joe should loudly laugh at him. Trump doesn’t react well to ridicule and open, close, and instant ridicule from Biden will probably completely trigger him off of whatever prep or briefing he was given.

Now, you also realize that Biden will “lose” the debate in the media anyways. Ridiculing Trump will be declared mean, rude, and un-Presidential. Standing and taking it will be declared unresponsive, unable to handle things as they come up. Etc, etc, etc.

California man accused of stealing, wrecking Nebraska State Patrol cruiser (Scottsbluff, Nebr. Star-Herald)

SIDNEY — A 29-year-old California man is accused of stealing a Nebraska State Patrol trooper’s cruiser as troopers investigated drug offenses following a traffic stop.

According to a release from the Nebraska State Patrol, the Cheyenne County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the theft of the cruiser and the suspect’s arrest, which occurred Sunday afternoon near Sidney,

Dontey Ollie, 29, of Newark, California

Early Sunday afternoon, NSP received a report of a Cadillac SUV passing other vehicles on the shoulder on Interstate 80. A trooper located the vehicle east of Sidney, as it was traveling westbound on I-80 at 92 miles per hour. The trooper performed a traffic stop at mile marker 58.

Another trooper arrived on scene to assist in a probable cause search of the vehicle. The driver was Zakiya Rowe, 28, of Chicago, with passenger Dontey Ollie, 29, of Newark, California. During the search, troopers allegedly located approximately one pound of marijuana, a large sum of money, and a handgun. Upon finding the gun, the troopers went to place both occupants under arrest.

As a trooper attempted to place Ollie under arrest, Ollie entered the passenger side of the cruiser, climbed over the center console, and stole the vehicle. The suspect nearly struck the trooper with the cruiser as he drove away. The suspect fled westbound at a high rate of speed.

One of the troopers used the other cruiser on scene to pursue the suspect. The suspect then attempted to exit I-80 at mile marker 55 and lost control of the vehicle. The vehicle rolled several times and Ollie was ejected. When the trooper arrived on scene, he called for an ambulance and provided medical aid. Ollie was transported to the Sidney hospital. He has since been flown to Loveland, Colorado, for further treatment of serious injuries.

Rowe was arrested for possession of a concealed weapon, driving under suspension, possession of marijuana - between one ounce and one pound, and possession of money during a drug violation. She was lodged in Cheyenne County Jail.

Trump delivers another FUCK YOU to Federal Workers.

Federal workers will have taxes deferred under Trump’s order, sparking outcry they’re being treated as a ‘guinea pig’

The U.S. government will implement an across-the-board payroll tax deferral for about 1.3 million federal employees starting in mid-September, potentially forcing these workers to take a temporary financial boost now that they will have to repay next year.

The policy, confirmed Monday by a senior administration official, comes in response to a widely panned policy directive issued by President Trump earlier in August. Unions have sharply criticized the government’s decision, fearing federal workers may not have a choice in whether to take the deferral — resulting in them receiving smaller paychecks in 2021 until the past-due taxes are paid off.

Trump’s order specifically targets the 6.2 percent tax that employers deduct from their workers’ wages so the government can fund Social Security. His directive postpones payment of those taxes until January, at which point employers are required to start collecting back what is owed, perhaps by withholding double the amount they usually take until May. The deferral applies only to people who earn up to $4,000 on a biweekly basis, and less than $104,000 annually.

Thanks for the big fuck in the wallet Trump! Means I have to start socking 7% of my gross paycheck into my Rainy Day Savings Account to cover the penalty.

Just hours after authorities believed the Hubbard Gap Fire had been fully beaten back and contained, fire departments from throughout the region were recalled as windy conditions caused remaining hotspots to flare over and find new fuel.

Region 22 Emergency Manager Tim Newman tells KNEB News the blaze resumed its march on the south side of the Wildcat Hills between noon and 1 p.m., this time running through a smaller area of bluffs before emerging on the plains and moving southeast.

Mutual aid calls were quickly issued, and at the scene firefighters from Banner County had been joined by those from Gering, Bayard, Mitchell, McGrew and the Western Nebraska Regional Airport as of about 1:30 p.m.,with many more said to be in the way.

Homes along Banner Co. Roads 67 and 69 were evacuated as a precaution around 2 p.m. with the assistance of deputies from the Morrill County Sheriff’s Office.

Guess what none of them dropped dead of? Those comorbidities.

So what this person is saying is those lives don’t matter.

They really do not understand what doctors mean when they say “comorbidity.” It does NOT mean that you were already dying of something and you just happened to catch a CV-19 infection on the way to the grave. It can mean either that you were already in a bad way and CV-19 just finished the job or that you had an underlying medical condition that made it harder for you to deal with the damage CV-19 inflicts upon your body.

Also from KNEB (Scottsbluff, Nebr.)

(WASHINGTON) — Herman Cain’s Twitter account is still being maintained by a group of associates following Cain’s death from coronavirus complications — but some of the content is strikingly divergent from Cain’s experiences with the virus.

A tweet from the account that questioned the mortality rate of COVID-19 was apparently posted and deleted Sunday night — a morbid turn following the conservative businessman’s death after being hospitalized for the virus last month.

Several outlets posted screenshots of the Tweet, which linked to an article alleging that “it looks like the coronavirus is not as deadly as the mainstream media first made it out to be.”

That story was in reference to a statistic from a weekly update by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention listing 94% of COVID deaths as having co-morbidities.

The statistic is based on death certificates, which routinely include contributing factors, and experts say it is being misrepresented on social media. National and international public health agencies have long maintained that people with underlying health issues are more vulnerable to the virus.

I bet if you substitute electricity for internet, you could probably find someone 100 years ago who wrote the same thing.

And sixty-five years ago with indoor plumbing. It took mandatory orders from the state to require indoor plumbing in homes to be able to sell them.

A lot of properties were simply abandoned rather than upgrade them when people moved. (My own house’s indoor plumbing is from the late Sixties, when the owners added a bathroom on the side of the kitchen.)

They don’t care. They are just searching for any “scientific” excuse to downplay the COVID-19 numbers and effect. Trump and the GOP have tied themselves to this effort instead of even considering some sort of mea culpa and trying to do the right thing even at this late of a point. (Though the mea culpa could well be political suicide as well, but that’s also the difference between a politician and an actual leader or statesman.)

Some of the comorbidities are things like obesity and high blood pressure, not exactly uncommon conditions in the US. Others are diseases that are probably opportunistic infections given the strain COVID puts on the immune system.

And largely the list of conditions that make a COVID infection a very serious thing since your immune system and body are already dealing with them.

And also in that nice fat group of pre-existing conditions that will lead to a lot of people regretting their allowing Trump & Co. to wreck the US healthcare system.

The goal is to make them actually form an answer, to make them more self aware of what they are doing.

This can force people to either 1) become more dishonest and pretend they don’t know what they are doing, or 2) actually engage in a meaningful conversation.

A friend of mine who has been hanging with the Krishnas in London tells me that they were kicked out of a park near Soho square for holding a meeting there.

Although it is open to the public, it officially belongs to the Anglican church and although the church seems to have no trouble with people drinking, smoking and dealing drugs there, they seem to have taken umbrage at the sight of Krishnas chanting and banging drums…

Has he really declined intellectually since taking office? Or is more that he is facing several crises and now, being in over his head, means he can no longer rant his way out. Before this year he could switch topics and talk about whatever interested him, ignoring the real questions. Now? There are devastating crises brought on by his total ignorance and uninterest in the responsibilities of his office.

In his life before, he could just walk away from problems, leaving others to hold the bag. That is no longer an option for him. So he is Gish galloping to distract us all. Our nation is being overwhelmed by disasters he has inflicted on us, with the willing assistance of the Washington GOP: pandemic, economic meltdown, massive loss of jobs, riots and civil unrest, destruction of the post office, unraveling of our foreign alliances, etc.

His attempting to blame “Democrat” run cities for the riots is totally in alignment with his blaming blue states for the early pandemic deaths. Blame everyone except himself and his cult falls right in line. I wonder if they see his babbling as the sign of a deteriorating mental condition or if he sounds just like them.

Apart from “the Tory party at prayer” joke about Anglicanism (known as “Church of England” in England) the other joke is that it is the default religion. You can be RC, Jewish, Hindu, Moslem, or…. C of E. When I got old enough to want out of the mandatory religious services in my (public, not private) school it took my mother 3 months to get me permission to sit in a little room with the other weirdos while everyone else was singing All Things Bright And Beautiful

Like that in Germany, you get Lutheran or Roman Catholic religions instruction or you can opt out for the Ethics class.

The preserve the fiction of “separation of church and state” by claiming that it is the churches who provide the instructors, the schools simply offer the classrooms.

They are trying to institute Islamic instruction here, but that is encountering problems because, unlike the RC or the Lutheran Synod, there is no single governing body to regulate the content of what is to be taught in classes.

President Not-a-Stroke giving a platform for the scared Gilded Age couple from St. Louis has inspired another couple.

Charles McMillon Jr. was dropping off a U-Haul van with his young son and childhood friend Kendrick Clemons on Thursday night when out of nowhere bullets started flying.

They had just parked the van at a U-Haul drop-off spot at the Fountain Square strip mall on Apalachee Parkway and were sitting in McMillon’s truck getting ready to go. As he typed in the mileage on a phone app, a gunshot rang out.

They looked back and saw an older couple coming toward them, both pointing guns in their direction. They yelled “Don’t move!” and other commands to surrender.

They managed to escape with their lives — incredibly, a police officer who happened to be in the parking lot intervened after the shooting began. But they’ll never forget their ordeal — the product, they said, of racial profiling by would-be vigilantes.

It turned out the two shooters, Wallace Fountain, 77, and his wife, Beverly Fountain, 72, own the strip mall and were staking it out inside a U-Haul of their own. They said they were having problems with people stealing gas and wanted to scare off any culprits.

Tallahassee Police Department officers arrested the Fountains on three counts of aggravated assault without intent to kill. They were found carrying several pistols, including a .357-caliber Magnum and a Glock 19. Officers also found a shotgun in their U-Haul.

The officer in the parking lot said he saw McMillon and Clemons arrive. He noted in his report that the two were not acting suspiciously before the shooting started. Source: Tallahassee Democrat

I have been instructed to get a home blood-pressure-checking device. My BP has been called ‘borderline’ for about 6 years. At the physical therapist’s office last Friday, it was ‘too high’. Now, every time I read or listen to current events, mini strokes are on my mind.

Since when do we go to a radiologist for anything other than reading any kind of scans (x-ray, ct, mri, ultrasounds, etc.) Their job is to read and interpret scans. I don’t go to them for a pandemic response or public health response.

Trump’s elevated this lunatic because he’s telling Trump what he wants to hear, not because he knows anything about epidemiology.

It’s as if I went to my accountant to write up a will. Sure, the accountant might know how stuff gets taxed when you die, but he doesn’t know how to draft a will. That’s why you go to an estate lawyer who specializes in that.

Dr. Fauci is the pandemic guy, and he’s been around for decades precisely because he’s the best there is in the field. Trump’s busy ignoring him because he’s not telling Trump what he wants to hear.

And we’ve seen what Trump’s views result in: 187,000+ dead Americans and no end in sight to the pandemic. The only reason we’re not in even worse shape is that most Americans are following guidelines to mask and social distance despite Trump/GOP insistence on ignoring both.

The GOP and Trump are prolonging the economic collapse and making the number of deaths/cases even worse.

This was avoidable. The death toll could have been reduced/prevented. Trump actively blocked that from happening.

The only obstacle really is weather. And logistics. If it rains, most American schools have too many kids to build an awning or big canopies of some kind. It will be fall soon and then cold weather sets in, so you’re at the mercy of the elements. There’s not a school anywhere near me that has less than a thousand kids,K-5,6-8 or 9-12. My son’s high school had almost 2800 kids last school year, pre Corona. I can’t imagine having to wrangle all those kids outside at once. I just wish they had windows that opened and fans to help ventilate the buildings while people are there during the day. But that’s a “security risk” which makes things about this virus worse for schools. The whole thing is a hot mess, that could have been avoided. Which pisses me off.

Seriously and they think these lame poorly edited clips of Biden mean shit. Trump is who his cult think Biden is.

But all this bulkshit on a stick is in heavy rotation on right wing social media - Facebook etc., where people are fixated on Trump’s every word and ignore the facts before them.

187,000+ Americans are dead and Trump has no plan beyond ignoring it and making the situation worse. He has no plan. He has no strategy. He’s calling on know nothings who tell Trump what he wants to hear to advise him, not the health experts with actual authority and experience and knowledge. That’s who Trump is listening to, and the results are predictable: more dead, worse outcomes, and the economy continuing to sputter along far below where Trump took over in 2017. Trump inherited a strong and stable economy and caused its collapse with his failed covid19 response.

Unemployment is more than 2x higher than when President Obama left office. That’s on Trump. Trump’s the one who loved to claim Obama oversaw a disaster of an economy.

Under Trump the economy is demonstrably far worse than at any time during the Great Recession or the longest recovery in US history. The stock markets are completely divorced and insulated from the main street collapse thanks to the Fed injecting trillions to prop up the economy. That’s because of Trump’s failures, and the economy would be doing even worse had more states listened to Trump.

The same people who think that covid19 isn’t serious are busy attacking Democrat states like NY, CA, NJ and MA for their high death tolls as proof that Trump was… right about something. It’s all cognitive dissonance all the time. Trump attacked states and businesses for shutting down in Feb/March (by which time the US economy was in recession thanks to Trump’s idiotic trade war with China). Trump wanted everything reopening faster and ignoring the experts was his theme. He spewed snake oil solutions and empty platitudes, and is relying on claims that his actions will cause a vaccine to be developed and implemented this year.

A vaccine may come, but it will be despite Trump, not because of him. We have a massive death toll because of Trump. The economic collapse is because of Trump.

Other countries had the same or less info than Trump, and made better decisions and got covid19 contained. We’re still failing because Trumpists across the nation ignore the experts and are exposing more Americans to a deadly pandemic, which continues to put the brakes on the economy.

The more Trump wants things opened up before it’s safe to do so, the more it will slow the economy thanks to ongoing outbreaks. We see it with colleges and universities. We see it with pro sports teams. And we’re already seeing it with K-12 schools too.

It’s a disaster of epic proportions and it’s due to Trump’s failures all the way around.

That’s his record and legacy.

And since the Senate is not in favor of any sort of relief bill for the common citizen the economic damage is simply going to get worse. Handouts to the large corporations will matter less and less if there is no money available to the citizens to purchase their products. So this drives the recession even deeper. And numerous small businesses will completely fold never to come back at all. Which, in turn, will generate a nice fat commercial real estate crisis.

Some vague story of threatening looking men coming to hurt them or take their stuff, and if you ask anything about it, someone told them but won’t say who. Plus the handful of grievances over and over until you want to scream.

That a Trump supporter could think that he is going to such lengths to protect his tax returns has an innocent explanation is beyond me. The best case scenario is that he (without fraudulently misrepresenting the value of his properties/holdings) is worth substantially less than he has claimed for all these years. I suppose that wouldn’t be actionable, but it would be example no. eleventy billion of him lying.

Pre Alzheimer’s Thatcher would never have considered COVID-19 a hoax, she would have been on top of it. Never forget that she helped found the IPCC because she believed in climate change. She was also strongly pro-EU.

Post Alzheimer’s, all bets are off.

(I detested her, hell she’s one of the major reasons I moved to France in 1983, but don’t confuse her with morons like Trump or Alexander Boris de Pfeffel Johnson).

Yeah that was the joke.

Maggie had a healthy disdain for woo-woo and conspiracy types, possibly because she studied chemistry at college rather than politics. She was PM during the first serious outbreaks of HIV in the 80s and did not duck the threat or rely on “thoughts and prayers” like the Reagan Administration did in the early days.

Public Information Film - Aids 1986

That’s a public information film, basically a government-made TV advert, that ran on all TV channels regularly in 1986. There were others, equally sombre and clear on the threat of HIV as well as leaflets, needle exchanges for drug addicts, training for doctors and health professionals etc. They did make mistakes (blood donations, for example) but they didn’t go golfing and pretend it would all go away in time because reasons.

Fox chyron when I walked by earlier:

Protesters march to mayor’s house, demand he resign. Riot declared.

I’m trying to figure out how you declare a riot. I mean you can riot, even quietly, but to declare one.

My grandkids in Florida started in-person school today.

Yeah I know. I was mocking Herman Cain’s Twitter feed for continuing to do this.

Trump.

I had images of a team of interns, but you’re right. Trump is so obsessed with his image and ratings that this task would be too important for him not to do it himself.

You never know. I think there could be a couple Senate elections that shock us this fall.

I know: KS and AK are the two usual upsets bruited about, but I’m thinking the real “shocker” will be Doug Jones retaining his seat in AL…

re: #514 John Hughes

Was Maggie really “strongly pro-EU”?? Maybe it’s just old CW, but I thought that “European” issues were (along with just too much time at No. 10) one of the things that led to her resignation. IIRC, Thatcher was always skeptical of Britain’s tying itself too much to the Continent, and she lost out to the more “integrationist” bloc among the Tories.

Yeah I’d love to see Doug shock and win. If not, I hope he’s in the Biden DOJ either as AG or heading the Civil Rights department.

re: #487 A Cranky One

When political ads increase in frequency, I usually stop watching any broadcast/cable TV. But a dilemma approaches. After being stuck at home for many months, I’ve already watched what streaming content my (limited) preferences allow.

Sadly, my eyes don’t cooperate with reading books anymore, and frankly something mindless is necessary after a 12 hour day.

I may be forced into talking with my spouse.

//

Edit to fix typo

audible.com has books of every description and libravox has public domain books. There is also the giant rabbit hole that is podcasts.

Also, of course, youtube — although you’re not likely to miss political commercials unless you subscribe.

Maggie came to power in 1979 after the Winter of Discontent when the British economy was pretty much in ruins (and I had just graduated and was looking for a job but I digress). The EU’s Common Market, as it was at that time was a lifesaver for the UK. She, like most Tories was always suspicious of the EU’s inbuilt drive for tighter political and economic integration hence Britain’s opt-out of the Schengen open borders agreement and later the Euro, but she was all for being an active member of the EU in terms of trade and industry and she was willing to accept the regulations that entailed.

She may have been uncaring, mistaken, overbearing, prideful and a lot of other things but no-one with any sense ever accused her of being stupid.
