I love dogs…. I’m not fond of dogs with keening personalities or behavior . Foxes have keening pack behavior x100 towards their humans.
And then they get spots.

All these treasonweasels, treasonweasel adjacent, and treasonweasel curious GOPers have abililty to question the very people who had to deal with the insurrection the GOPers incited.
Johnson, Howley, and others can pontificate, spew conspiracies, and otherwise waste everyone’s time because the Constitution permits it under the speech and debate clause.
It sucks that they’re doing this, but it’s not anything that Schumer has any control over other than limiting who could actually be on the committee and that was all controlled by the organizing resolution.
From what I have read, Josh Hawley is working hard to position himself to unite much of the GOP base behind him. Even though he is college educated and a politician, he is marketing himself as a Friend of True Patriots (TM)

Yes, and this travesty exposes a serious flaw in the rules, like so much of the Trump administration.
When we see Senate Republicans pushing conspiracy theories mere weeks after a deadly attack on the US Capitol, there’s one thing you can be sure of: they’re going to do it again.

re: #7 Charles Johnson
Of course not. They call right-wing extremism “taking our country back.” It’s the default mode for America.
These hearings might be shorter if the participants didn’t keep congratulating each other on their dedication and hard work in sitting and paying attention.
None of this hearing counts. We need convictions. That may make a difference, especially if enough of the criminals testify against trump and friends. This is mostly BS.
re: #7 Charles Johnson
Can I at least get Garland confirmed as head of the DOJ before we classify this as a failure?
I honestly believe that Biden wants to do the hard work and has appointed like minded folks to lead these parts of the government. If they simply follow the rules (and are allowed to do so) I think a difference can be made.
The Rubicon for me will be if the new government agencies will be given a free hand to prosecute those transgressions that are actually crimes perpetuated by the GOP. If certain members of Congress conspired, planned or even knew about it and told no one, I want them prosecuted. Same for every other damn illegal scheme that was unhatched, from environmental protection violations to campaign and election fraud to treason.
I don’t give a shit if there is a hue and cry about partisanship, it seems that breaking the law shouldn’t be allowed regardless of political party. Use that frame and nail it to the wall.
honore also said mean things about hawley, which fox news has been whining about, but most of the people covering congress won’t note this because they ignore fox’s effect on gop politicians https://t.co/3gGiyuLp8w

There are SO MANY THINGS we all lost track of during the Drumpf administration’s shitting all over the very idea of good governance.
I had somehow forgotten all the times Trump trotted out Big Stacks Of Very Important Blank Paper and got everyone on the right wing to pretend that it meant something.
Guy says he has the solution to a problem in his head. People ask what the solution is, he says shut up, vote for me and watch. People vote for him, he wins, everybody watches. He rolls out a pallet of papers arranged to look like they have words on them and says he’s hard at work. Some people point out that the paper is blank, everyone else says to give him a chance. Nothing happens. Nothing happens. Nothing continues to happen. Four years go by, nothing happens in any of those years. His supporters refuse to talk about it, his detractors had so much new shit to talk about every single day that they don’t talk about it either. He fully got away with that one.
It’s like if a shitty dad said that he would Make Unicorns Real for a girl’s upcoming birthday party, and then spent every single day after that making such a dangerous spectacle of himself that it kind of fell out of focus. “Yeah sweetie the unicorn thing but holy shit he just held a klan rally on the lawn, shot one of the neighbor’s kids, and is bro-ing down with everyone’s least favorite neighbor because he fired some shots off at a better neighbor’s house but missed on purpose. It’s not unicorn discussion time, I’m sorry.”

I know I said I would not repeat this: but if he had been at all serious about The Wall as anything but a rallying point, he would have convened a planning commission to produce engineering and design studies, environmental and legal impact reports along with a proposed budget and timetable.
And yet nobody seemed to care when none of that came about even after four fucking years…

Indeed. I’m not sure if this qualifies as a Bad Thing, however.
Trump was stupid and averse to anything that even got near to being “work.” He just wanted to grandstand, strut around and have the yokels yell his name.
If he had been actually smart & dedicated, he could have done so much damage by putting all these crazy conspiracy policies into action. (See also: Reinhard Heydrich & the Wannsee Conference, where they were basically the equivalent of a planning commission meeting, working out the details of monstrous crime.)
Next time we might not be so lucky.

Trumps M.O. is always to come up with some bullshit plan or idea then make other people (only the best ones of course :P) try to figure out how to implement said plan, no matter how bugfuck insane it may be.
People did care when none of the plans came about, but Republicans and his cultists didn’t care…and that’s all that matters to Trump.

Yeah, I figured that when they tried blaming wind power generation for the power shortages in TX, when it is obvious that with the states dependence on gas, that it was the gas infrastructure is most likely at fault…
TL;DR parts of the pipeline infrastructure developing ice plugs (or worse, clathrate plugs) because the liquifed gas goes into gas form at any point where there are significant pressure drops or constrictions, and the gas does contain some water vapor, which freezes when the going from liquid to gas sucks every Joule of energy in the neighborhood.
Worse still, they apparently had the exact same issue in 2011, but didn’t do shit, like at least insulating points of constrictions or building heated and/or insulated shacks around them.

Other folks have mentioned that other pre-print research explains it and that the California strain is still caught by vaccines:
And finally, the question of vaccine escape. A pre-print study, meaning it hasn’t been peer-reviewed, found that “the California variant B.1.429 (L452R) exhibited neutralization that was similar” to that of the wild type, so the vaccines are basically just as effective against it

And the Capitol police, outnumbered, outgunned, and with traitors in their midst, was able to put it down. Just barely, but they did it. I find that rather comforting.

My new exercise bike came today, and I get the joy to assemble this beast:
Note that since this version is out of stock from them directly, they offer the next higher and pricier version.
Amazon had stock, and delivered it in 3 days - 3 days ahead of their original schedule.
They left it on the porch, and I had to push that lead-like weight of a box into the living room so I can strip the styrofoam and all the hidey-hole parts and start assembling this monstrosity.
I really don’t feel like going into a gym to exercise, given that we’re now seeing variants that may not respond to the current vaccines.
Unlike bikes that bore this name in the past, sadly the fan is made of plastic and not metal. At least it can be repaired as they offer repair parts.

I didn’t feel paying more for the next step up was worth it; especially since I have telemetry via my smartwatch.
I’m just hoping that my 86-yr old mother will use it to build up strength - when the box came in and I put it up against the hide-a-bed soft she was ripping into it like a little kid - which is a good sign. I’ll be putting it in my office, so that way I can have one of my screens play some browser-based cable feed that she can listen though via Bluetooth, and I can have my work screen up on my other monitor.
