Here’s a very fun, funny and informative video By Tom Reimann from cracked, on conspiracy theories.
BREAKING EXCLUSIVE MUST CREDIT TWITCHY! The liberal-biased interwebs are putting conservatives in Twitter jail, maybe (or maybe not) but probably (but probably not), just for being conservatives, OH NOES!
Michelle Malkin, conservative keyboard-banging hero and founder of the the site with NINE PAID STAFFERS (or, ugh, maybe even more by now) who collect random tweets, mostly by Pat Sajak, and call it “the news wire of the 21st century,” is on to you, Twitter!
An upcoming anti-gay screed that is awash in paranoia and Christian Persecution Syndrome features a Who’s Who among religious right wingnuts (particularly Pseudo Historian David Barton), but it also features two Republican Presidential hopefuls for 2016 - Mike Huckabee, and Rand “Vaccinations can cause Mental Illness” Paul.
And for comic relief, it also features GOHMERT!
Today, Faith 2 Action’s Janet Porter sent out an email to activists excitedly announcing that she is finishing up editing a new anti-gay documentary that she intends to release at the National Religious Broadcaster’s Convention in Nashville at the end of this month.
Porter, who was a longtime Religious Right activist and radio host until she lost her program due to her increasing radicalism only to re-emerge as an anti-abortion activist and right-wing social media entrepreneur, has brought together a who’s who of hardline anti-gay activists, members of Congress, and presidential hopefuls for her film entitled “Light Win: How To Overcome The Criminalization Of Christianity.”
Among the participants are Rep. Steve King, Rep. Trent Franks, Rep. Louie Gohmert, Rep. Tim Huelskamp, Sen. Rand Paul, Mike Huckabee, David Barton, James Dobson, Mat Staver, Phyllis Schlafly, Scott Lively, Alveda King, Brian Camenker, Frank Pavone, Robert Knight, John Stemberger, and, of course, Porter herself, who can been seen walking around in the woods with a lantern, warning that gay activists are seeking to turn Christians into criminals:
Here’s the Audio clip Rightwing Watch found where she mouths off. She’s angry that Fox News, dared to apologize for spreading anti Muslim hate.
Yeah Muslim no go zones are “real.” I wonder if that’s why people not just in the United States, but also Europe, see Fox News as a joke now. Those people now include British Prime Minister, David Cameron who couldn’t believe how stupid Fox was. Also the entire idea, that that Sharia law will take over Europe or the United States anytime soon is ridiculous. Last I checked Muslims only made up about zero point six percent of our population, and its hardly accurate to say all, or even most of them are extremists, who would support turning America into a theocracy.
I wonder if this is why Fox News could get sued in France for their claims about “no go zones” in Paris. I guess its all fear of the Muslims, and the non existent “no go zones” that they live in.
As for her bizarre claim that for liberals Islam trumps gay rights. Its not like liberals never condemn homophobia in the name of Islam, just like they condemn homophobia in the name of Christianity. Its not like mainstream news organizations who reject the nonsensical idea of “stealth Jihad” or “Muslim no go Zones” haven’t reported on homophobia in Muslim majority countries. Pamela Geller on the other hand, Is only pro gay rights when Muslims are persecuting homosexuals. She doesn’t seem to care when Christians do it, especially if they’re anti Muslim like her.
Update 1/24/15 at 4:50pm.
Note: I originally stated that Muslims made up only point six percent of the US population, but it confused some LGF regulars so I changed it to read “zero point six percent” instead just to make it clearer as to what I meant.
It’s still there, and getting worse.
Before the November elections in the USA, you would have thought Ebola was going to spread across the States like wildfire, judging from the politically motivated fear-mongering in the media.
But the elections are over, and Americans have put their heads back into the sand. Meanwhile, thousands of West Africans suffer from the disease.
The number of people with Ebola in west Africa has risen above 16,000, with the death toll from the outbreak reaching almost 7,000, the World Health Organisation (WHO) says.
The number of deaths is more than 1,000 higher than the figure issued by the WHO just two days ago, but it is thought to include deaths that have gone unreported in the weeks or months since the outbreak began. Most of the new deaths were recorded in Liberia.
The WHO has warned that its figures could be a significant underestimation of the number of infections and deaths. Data from the outbreak has been patchy and the totals often rise considerably when backlogs of information are cleared. The latest confirmed data shows that almost half those known to have been infected with Ebola have died.
One noteworthy tidbit from the Guardian article. Two girls who came to the UK and were suspected to be carrying Ebola were not found to be carriers of the disease. Their names and ages were not released.
Nice to know some media agencies value the public’s privacy.
Nativists and Anti Muslim bigots are determined to bend the government to their will for “the good” of America. No surprise these people haven’t given up yet. Hopefully they’ll be made irrelevant within our lifetime.
Recently, Imagine2050 has reported on anti-immigrant activists seeking to make immigration a top priority for voters in the upcoming midterm elections. Similar to this, members of the organized Islamophobia movement have recently sought to inject more anti-immigrant arguments into their overall agenda.
This recent uptick in rhetoric surrounding immigration and border enforcement has come from key figures and organizations in the anti-Muslim movement. Within this framework, these voices have called for curbing relief for undocumented immigrants and for a militarizing of our southern border: All supposedly in the name of national security.
The crossover between anti-Muslim figureheads and anti-immigrant sentiment is increasingly prevalent. Although the anti-Muslim contingent frames border security as a way deter terrorists, their messaging mirrors old-school nativist rhetoric as they aim to uphold policies that harm a broader spectrum of communities.
Below are three examples that highlight this crossover.
This may have already been name-checked on these pages, but I’m posting it because I just got another chain email alleging that Obama and The EEbil Gummint is out to get us all, being helped by their sinister white lab-coated fellow travelers in universities.
Truthy started as a project to track how the web spreads rumors and disinformation (something of a favorite pasttime in these here parts, I have noticed), but by the time it filtered its way through the Wingnuttosphere and reached Fox, it had turned into the Thought Police targeting poor besieged conservatives. And no doubt, laying plans for their annual War On Christmas.
“The headlines are saying something that is completely false and fabricated,” Menczer said. “We are not defining hate speech. We are not tracking people. We don’t have a database.”
None of those facts stopped readers from spreading the story. The Free Beacon’s article was shared about 4,000 times on Twitter and 10,000 times on Facebook, according to Muck Rack analytics. It was crossposted on foxnews.com the next day, garnering an additional 2,000 shares on Twitter and 15,000 shares on Facebook. And it was quickly picked up by a handful of other prominent right-wing websites, becoming fodder for paranoia-inducing analyses by The Week, Reason, and breitbart.com. “Other blogs twisted the meme and mutated the meme until it became completely outlandish,” Menczer said. “I don’t think there’s anything we can say to change that.”
Only problem is that even the arch-conservative Wall St. Journal noted that Truthy has been in existence for years. But Fox, Breitbart, et al. don’t let the truth stand in the way of a good, ratings-grabbing freakout. And they, of course, use it the same way they use anything - as a cudgel by which to bash around government in general and Obama in particular.
Well, at least the researchers at IU have some new source material to study from the inside.
A few days ago, Charisma, a Christian magazine, published an article titled “Why I Am Absolutely Islamophobic,” by Gary Cass. The article opens with:
My fear is not an irrational fear based on uniformed prejudice; rather it’s an historic, clear eyed, informed, rational fear. ISIS is doing to American journalists what every true follower of Muhammad wants to do to you and yours—subjugate or murder you. They believe they have been given a mandate by Allah (Satan) to dominate the world.
He goes on to ponder the best way to deal with this menace. Should we convert the heathens? No!
1. Conversion. Wouldn’t it be wonderful to see Muslims turn from Satan (Allah) to Christ? But, I agree with Phil Robertson: This is not biblically doable. Why? God has a plan and he revealed it at the birth of Ishmael, the father of the Arabs.
Well, perhaps if we let them have their own corner of the world, we can work something out? Nope:
2) D.A.M.N. (Deport All Muslims Now). Deport them like Spain was forced to do when they deported the Muslim Moors. Muslims in America are procreating at twice the rate of other groups. So either we force them all to get sterilized, or we wait for the “Army of Islam” to arise in our midst and do what Muslims always do, resort to violence.
So, what’s left, Mr. Cass?
3. Violence. The only thing that is biblical and that 1,400 years of history has shown to work is overwhelming Christian just war and overwhelming self defense. Christian Generals Charles Martel in 732 and Jon Sobieski in 1672 defeated Islamic Turks and their attempts to take the West. Who will God raise up to save us this time? Will God even intervene or turn us over to the Muslims for turning against Him?
Either way, we must be prepared for the increase of terror at home and abroad. This is not irrational, but the loving thing we must do for our children and neighbors. First trust in God, then obtain a gun(s), learn to shoot, teach your kids the Christian doctrines of just war and self defense, create small cells of family and friends that you can rely on if some thing catastrophic happens and civil society suddenly melts down.
ISIS has done us all a favor. The true face of Islam is on full display even as Muhammad is burning in hell. We will have to face the harsh truth that radical Islam has no place in civilized society. Militant Muslims cannot live in a society based on Christian ideals of equality and liberty. They will always seek to harm us.
You can find the original article here, because the editors at Charisma had an attack of intelligence and have taken the article down. They haven’t apologized or anything, but they have taken it down.
But it doesn’t matter, does it? The fact that no one in this prominent conservative Christian magazine saw nothing wrong with publishing this article says a lot about the Religious Right.
I originally found this article through Fred Clark, who posts for the Slacktivist blog: Charismanews.com goes full-on Hutu radio. Fred Clark has since posted an article on the author Gary Cass: So who is this Gary Cass guy?
Most of you are probably surprised to find a post about Richard Dawkins under the wingnuts category, but what he’s done here is hardly pro-reason. It is more in line with what someone like a Pamela Geller would do, not someone who is supposed to be rationalists. While there’s nothing inherently wrong with criticizing Islam, or any other religion for that matter, this is not critiquing the religion from a skeptical or rationalist perspective. Dawkins has promoted a man ( and I’m guessing he’s a man ) who promotes bigotry and conspiracy theories. He has basically come out and endorsed the bigoted anti Muslim “counter jihad.”
Richard Dawkins promotes following @jihadistjoe on twitter. The following screen grabs are from the same day Dawkins endorsed, but just before he tweeted his endorsement.
