Update: Miami Terror Arrests

Fri, Jun 23, 2006 at 7:09:58 am PDT

The Islamic terror suspects arrested yesterday in Miami intended to launch an attack “as good or greater than 9/11:” Indictment: Suspects wanted to ‘kill all the devils we can’.

MIAMI, Florida (CNN) — A federal indictment against seven men revealed Friday details of what the government said was a plan intended to “kill all the devils we can.”

The mission was intended to be “as good or greater than 9/11,” beginning with the destruction of Chicago’s Sears Tower, according to court documents obtained Friday by CNN.

Named in the grand jury indictment is Narseal Batiste, who allegedly told a federal undercover agent, who he thought was a member of al Qaeda, that he was organizing a mission to build an Islamic army to wage a jihad in the United States. (Read the full indictment — PDF)

The document says that Batiste “recruited and supervised individuals in order to organize and train for a mission to wage war against the United States government, which included a plot to destroy by explosives the Sears Tower in Chicago, Illinois,” the nation’s tallest building.

Batiste gave the undercover agent a list of equipment he needed to “wage jihad” including “boots, uniforms, machine guns, radios and vehicles,” according to the document, as well as bullet-proof vests and $50,000 in cash.

“In order to obtain funding and support for the mission to wage war against the United States, Narseal Batiste and other conspirators attempted to obtain the support of al Qaeda,” the document said.

UPDATE at 6/23/06 7:50:36 am:

The Kos Koordinating Kommittee has handed down the talking point to deal with this setback: Daily Kos: Beyond Iraq.

Kudos to law enforcement officials for discovering the alleged plot before it could be implemented. Yet today’s news from Afghanistan and Florida reminds us that terrorists are thriving in nations where we prematurely declared victory, and they are thriving among us on our own soil as well. Stubbornly remaining in the quicksands of Iraq will not protect us from terrorists here and abroad. And no spin from from the Vice-President can conceal that sad fact.

Weak.

UPDATE at 6/23/06 7:53:29 am:

The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) wastes no time demanding protection from imaginary “backlash.”

CAIR National Board Chairman Parvez Ahmed said: “The American Muslim community is extremely concerned about these disturbing reports. We stand with local and national law enforcement authorities in seeking to keep our nation safe and secure.”

Ahmed added that CAIR is urging police departments nationwide to step up patrols near mosques and other Islamic Institutions to help prevent any possible backlash resulting from these arrests.

CAIR’s press conference is scheduled for noon Eastern, right after the government’s. They clearly recognize the importance of getting out there as quickly as possible with some soothing words for the media.

Afghanistan's President Karzai issued an asute and stinging rebuke of us for our handling of the war on terrorism. He said we need to go after the ideology, the money of radical Islam, especially those among us in the west. Killing off individual members in places like Afghanistan doesn't help in the long run.

I think going after the money and ideology is a great idea. Of course that means Saudi funded Wahhabism and all the other terrorist enablers and sympathizers working right here, beginning with CAIR.

24 TMF  Fri, Jun 23, 2006 5:28:33am

"white devils" was a term used extensively by Elijah Muhammed, Farrakahn, and currently by NOI leaders like Malik Shabazz.

These people arent just clowns on the tele anymore.

They need to be infiltrated (as the Panthers were) and eliminated.

I hear them on Medved all the time. The venom and hatred for white people, for America, for Jews is palpable in their speech. They emphathize with Bin Laden and the jihadists.

As Ive stated before, it was only a matter of time before they tried something.

Fortunately, most of them are really fucking stupid and are unlikely to cause significant damage.

FBI Wages War on Black Folks: Southern Strategy Rises Again

We just learned that the FBI had a spy in a black muslin group in Florida that never actually committed any terrorist acts but "talked" about them. "It was unclear what impact if any the arrests might have on public opinion ahead of mid-term congressional elections in November, and amid a deep slump in President George W. Bush's popularity and in public support for the Iraq war.

Well if it does turn out that all the al Qaeda involvement was talk from the FBI mole (including the loyalty pledge?), you know that unindicted Abscam co-conspirator Jack Murtha will defend them. We need an over-the-horizon strategy for law enforcement; the FBI should not be in Miami but in Okinawa.

P.S. If the left fringe can ignore the first word in "depleted uranium" when it obviates their argument about radiation, we can certainly ignore the "unindicted" when the rest of the phrase still means what it sounds like.

I was watching the WGN 9 o'clock news last night when this story first broke here in Chicago. When the reporter asked Chicagoans in the area near Sears Tower what their thoughts were about the plot, I was heartened by the calm, rational reactions of each interviewee. They commended law enforcement for their effective work while saying they aren't afraid. They also said that they felt that it wasn't reasonable to expect that law enforcement can keep us absolutely safe, but that the FBI, Chicago police, etc. were doing as good as possible a job minimizing the threat.

My personal opinion is that Chicago is a second-tier terror target. The Sears Tower, John Hancock Building & Aon Center (former Standard Oil Building) are the only poissible targets purely for their value as instantly recognizable icons of capitalism. Other than that, we don't have international organizations or major diplomatic missions here, and in that sense were safer than New York or Washington, DC.

I am job hunting right now, and wouldn't turn down a job at one of several firms/businesses located in the Sears Tower b/c I felt unsafe. All in all, I feel that law enforcement is doing a good job at keepping the threat to a minimium.

Now if we step up patrols around mosks (and really we should bug them so we can hear if any infidels are plotting against them), we'll all be safe.

And the 'ball' will be nowhere to be found.

Am at work so only saw summaries of the press conference with the AG. Apparently one reporter asked if the informant wore a wire and the FBI AD said that they have very good evidence, per the summary on Michelle Malkin's site.

Sorry, but shouldn't the reporter have phrased it that way -- "how good is your evidence"? Or did he or she mean to ask, "was the informant wearing a wire and if so how should future terror cells frisk people to find it?"

Here's what Reuters thinks it important for us to know in relation to the Miami busts:

"It was unclear what impact if any the arrests might have on public opinion ahead of mid-term congressional elections in November, and amid a deep slump in President George W. Bush's popularity and in public support for the Iraq war.

So, if President Bush's poll numbers were at, oh, 65%, no arrests would have been made?
Conversely, if the Dems were in power (GHU), not only would no arrests have been made, there wouldn't even be any terror investigations.

It's not that the stupid ones get caught-although they might be stupid. It's that our intelligence forces are getting good information and putting it to use. For everyone that gets caught-imagine who is still evading us. To say they are stupid is kind of minimizing the actual threat, and the actual danger to civilization.

They have a sophisticated, international operation, that is well-funded and well oiled. It runs 24/7 and jihadists are all linked by a common ideological agenda.

I don't think so. American black culture is traditionally very Christian but also they have a knack for blending cultural elements together. Voodoo (African animism/Catholisism), jazz (western music/african improvisation). It wouldn't be that unusual that they invented or adopted a blend of Christianity and Islam.

The feds' press conference had almost no new information. I found the timeline interesting though; At one point the suspects approached "somebody" to establish an al-qaeda connection. That "Somebody" told the Feds and the sting was set up. It might be that the suspects walked into their local mosque and tried to establish an Ossama connection. CAIR might be able to tout a "muslims helping law enforcement" meme.

If they find a tambourine you can be certain of the proof that the government has entrapped a bunch of Pentecost wannabees.

I vehemently reject any recognition of Islam as a legitimate religion and call for its total denunciation and ban. Seventy years ago, if someone had called for a total denunciation of Nazism, he probably would have been called an extremist as well, yet a decade later everyone adopted that view. Should we not learn from history? Evil must be rejected completely and without reservation. ALI SINA

Ahmed added that CAIR is urging police departments nationwide to step up patrols near mosques and other Islamic Institutions to help prevent any possible backlash resulting from these arrests.

I have a few other reasons why this is a good idea.

When the backlash does eventually happen...where do I sign up and will there be shirts and do i get a weapon? Wait, nevermind I have the last one covered already. :)

Stupid jihadists, America is for PATRIOTS.

My local radio station said a neighbour described them as young men, interested in athletics, not drinking and devoting themselves God and religion.

Who wouldn't want such fine young men as neighbours? Well, except for that accused terrorists thingy of course.

I saw that also, and for once I don't think it was spin. It was a CNN affiliate in Miami and no leading questions were asked. That guy really did appear to be absolutely gobsmacked by the whole thing.

Did anyone see the Fox people after the Tony Snow press conference? Man did they nail the NYT. Bank Data on page 1, Miami terror arrests, page A22.

NY Times former editor says FOX "lies, makes up news and panders"

"Fox Television showed us the future - outright lies and paranoid opinions packaged as news under the oversight of Rupert [Murdoch], a flagrant pirate, and Roger Ailes, an unprincipled Nixon thug.”

BULLETIN

A spokesman for the New York Times said today that “The New York Times deeply regrets our failure to have exposed another example of this Administration’s sneaky and intrusive surveillance practices. An internal investigation is proceeding as I speak. We recognize our responsibility to keep the public informed and we take this responsibility seriously.”

I wonder how many converted in prison? I am surprised there aren't more Black Muslim terrorists. They despise us.

Doesn't seem as if they were a real threat, but they wanted to be and that's what counts.

If proven guilty they should all get the death penalty, life without parol at a minimum. This will send a message to all the pathetic, lowlife losers who's lives suck so much that they displace there own sense of worthlessness into a genocidal whack off terror plot fantasy.

If proven guilty, let'em rot. In Hell or jail.

I think what Kos is trying to say is that we should leave Iraq and invade some other countries.

I vote for Iran.
