Ron Paul: 'I Wasn't Paying Attention'

Tue, Jan 8, 2008 at 2:26:34 pm PST

The Only Man Who Can Save America tries to save himself from The New Republic’s article: Ron Paul Statement on The New Republic Article Regarding Old Newsletters.

“This story is old news and has been rehashed for over a decade. It’s once again being resurrected for obvious political reasons on the day of the New Hampshire primary.

“When I was out of Congress and practicing medicine full-time, a newsletter was published under my name that I did not edit. Several writers contributed to the product. For over a decade, I have publically taken moral responsibility for not paying closer attention to what went out under my name.”

The problem for Dr. Paul is that there was a lot of this stuff. It stretches credulity to the breaking point to believe he had absolutely no idea what was being published in his name for that long. Doesn’t pass the sniff test.

And the newsletter isn’t the only source of the odor. There are Dr. Paul’s numerous appearances on the whacked-out conspiracy radio show hosted by 9/11 Troofer Alex Jones—and there are all those Nazis and New World Order types hanging around, who somehow, somewhere got the impression that Ron Paul was their kind of candidate.

This is about as believable as the "I didn't inhale" crap from b.j.

While the relentless pinada treatment of Ron Paul admittedly has some entertainment value (like pulling wings off butterflies, I guess), it is equally true that the nut poses no political danger to anyone.

Meanwhile, ol' Invade-Pakistan Obama, fresh from chatting today with his ethnic-cleansing/Muslim-cuddling Kenyan cousin Odinga, is embarking on a virtually unstoppable juggernaut toward the White House.

At some point does the weenie roast end and we MoveOn?

yet, still, there are no denials of these people, publically, from the Luap Nor crowd. None. A credible, viable candidate would RUN screaming from these people, telling whomever would listen, that they are not his people.

yet, still, nothing. I think he just wants the money. after all, if he jettisoned all these freaks like the bloody chum that they are, he would not have many supporters left I imagine. eh?

Just details. Several people were upset that nurses were reporting in Chicago hospitals that infants born alive during abortion procedures gone wrong were left to die in closets, in rooms alone.

The outcry from this was huge, so a law was proposed that if a child was born alive, it must receive medical care. I believe Obama did vote against that law.

Of course, this all depends on my failing memory...

Here it is from the Chicago SunTimes.

During his eight years in the legislature, Obama cast a number of votes on abortion and received a 100 percent rating from the Illinois Planned Parenthood Council for his support of abortion rights, family planning services and health insurance coverage for female contraceptives. He voted against requiring medical care for aborted fetuses who survive, a vote that especially riled abortion opponents.

It takes an breathtakingly dark conscience to vote to kill living, oxygen-breathing infants.

Oh really? Then why is it that when things are brought to your attention, like campaign contributions from groups like StormFront, you refuse to remedy the situation by returning the money?

I've said it before and I'll say it again, with Soros involved, this smells like a setup. After the primaries, I fear the MSM is going to latch onto this racist idiot and the meme will be "How can a Republican candidate take money from groups like this? How can the Republican party go along with this? Why is this acceptable behavior for a Republican candidate?

Over, and over, and over and over...

How else can one explain the MSM's non-coverage of this so far? It's all in the timing...

He needs to be tossed out of the party. NOW.

Can't happen fast enough. This Paul guy is a menace, and his deception of protecting the Constitution has swayed too many.

He is a man who supports American withdrawal from the ME not for sound reasons but because of a hatred of Jews. A man who wants to close the borders not because of a desire to preserve America's national character but because of a hatred of Mexican brown people. A man who supports the right to bear arms not to support the American Constitution but so white folks can protect themselves against the black beasts.

This is the real Ron Paul.

I agree that Ron Paul has some peculiar supporters but every candidate has that problem, some more than others. Some of Ron's comments from years ago may not be politically correct today, but most of them have a kernel of truth.

Ron Paul had the stones to say what people like me who can't afford to live in safe suburbs have known for years. The way blacks in the "hood" behave is disgraceful and the result of a malignant counterculture promoted by the left in order to keep blacks in poverty and dependent on government handouts so they will vote Democratic.

For years the liberal media has been looking for anti-Semites under every conservative bed. Now that serious anti-Semitism has arisen on the left they spin it as sympathy for Palestinians and opposition to Zionism and don't have any problem with it.

Ron Paul is not a mainstream candidate and has some unrealistic ideas but for now I'm supporting him in protest since Alan Keyes never got on the radar. I will probably hold my nose and vote for Giuliani or Romney in the general election.

The next question is, did RP have grandchildren in 1991?
If yes, then his ass is grass.

Wikipedia (take it for what it is worth) says the following about Ron Paul's family life:

While at Dormont, schoolmate Carol Wells had asked Paul to escort her to a sweet-16 Sadie Hawkins party, which was their first date. They kept in touch while attending colleges in different states. Over a 1956 park picnic before his senior year at Gettysburg, Paul proposed marriage to Wells; the couple were wedded on February 1, 1957, at Dormont Presbyterian Church before 300 guests.
They have five children, who were baptized Episcopalian:[10] Ronnie, Lori, Rand, Robert, and Joy. There are eighteen grandchildren and one great-grandchild.[11] Three children are also doctors:[19] Robert specializes in family practice, Joy in ob/gyn like her father, and Rand in eye surgery, in Bowling Green, Kentucky. Rand is also founder of Kentucky Taxpayers United and often speaks in Paul's behalf.[20][21] Paul supported his children during their undergraduate and medical school years, preventing their participation in federal student loans because the program was taxpayer-subsidized. He has rejected a Congressional pension for the same reason

That great grandchild and those three MD kids make it very likely there were grandkids in 1991

A friend Laura at RedStateEclectic says, "Here's a video of Ron Paul's grandkids singing "The Ballad of Ron Paul" back in 1996 when he ran for Congress the second time around.

168 RememberSekhmet?  Tue, Jan 8, 2008 4:55:20pm

and about.com links to Daily Paul with the following info:

So, I will start with the first of Dr. Paul’s children. Ronnie Paul is the oldest son of Dr. Ron Paul. He is married to Peggy Paul and they have three daughters. Peggy graduated from Texas A&M and it makes the U.T., A&M rivalry fun in their house. Laura is the oldest and she will graduate from The University of Texas very soon to attend medical school. (If you haven’t noticed, medical school is a trend in my family) The next dauther, Lisa, is a freshman at St. Edward’s University and plays softball. Though she suffered a broken foot which kept her out of most of the season, we are expecting a triumphant return next season. Linda is the youngest girl and will be a junior in high school next year. She is an animal lover at heart and competes in athletics and FFA in her high school. My uncle Ronnie graduated from The University of Texas where he lettered in swimming. He was a high school state champion in the butterfly. He currently works for Dow Chemical Co.

1991 was 17 years ago. We have so far 1 21/22-year-old and one 18/19-year-old grandkid

Next is my mom, Lori. She is married to my dad, Tom, and they have five children. I am the oldest in my family, and I am married to a wonderful woman named Kym. We recently gave Ron and Carol their first great-grandchild. My son, Collin Matthew, was born January 25, 2007 and is the light of our lives. My sister Vicki is married to Christopher White and they live in Houston, TX. Both Vicki and Christopher are graduates of Texas A&M Kingsville and Christopher was a pitcher for the Cincinnati Reds minor league system for a year before giving up the spikes for a career as a mechanical engineer. Next is sister Valori, a graduate of Wade College, and a dental assistant and full-time Ron Paul 2008 campaign worker. She is probably the hardest worker I know. Following my lovely sisters are my brothers Mark and Michael. My brother Mark graduates from high school tomorrow and I am very proud of him. He is graduating a year early and plans to attend The University of Oklahoma like his big brother. (BOOMER!) My brother Michael will be a freshman in high school next year and is the athlete of my family. He is an amazing baseball and football player and I am looking forward to watching him throughout his high school career.

We have three college graduates from this kid, and they ain't 17.

I could go further, but folks---there were grandkids in 1991!

The next question is, did RP have grandchildren in 1991?
If yes, then his ass is grass.

He sure did....
The ballad of Ron Paul by his grandchildren

A friend Laura at RedStateEclectic says, "Here's a video of Ron Paul's grandkids singing "The Ballad of Ron Paul" back in 1996 when he ran for Congress the second time around.

The oldest looks about 15 or so here. most look to be about 6-7 years old.

Nice! Sweet! Thank you! It's good enough for me!

Some. :) --but, you knew that.

So Ron Paul has been lying through his teeth about what he himself wrote in that newsletter, for over a decade, and he knew the hard physical evidence was out there.

But he kept on lying about it, leaving some staffer to take the blame as a "ghostwriter."

Did he really think that nobody would find out? Or did he think it didn't matter if they did?

Siren is on at Drudge. Clinton is leading in NH. But it's still early. Voting stopped at 8:00 EST.

This is a good place. A tough place, but a good one. I read for some time before deciding to take advantage of the next registration opportunity I stumbled into.

I'm learning even more on the inside. Thanks very much to all of you elder lizards.

well - sort of.

From the post:

"Fact of the matter is, Paul’s newsletter was ghostwritten."

Uh, I think you better reconsider that, son.

His blaming it on another person is to laugh. 'Cause I was thinking why he didn't issue a denial at the time if it so went against his grain and all.

I have to admit, I don't totally disagree with all of the opinions referenced in that TNR report:

“We now know that we are under assault from thugs and revolutionaries who hate Euro-American civilization and everything it stands for: private property, material success for those who earn it, and Christian morality.”

Not exactly an opinion alien to LGF.

“The riots, burning, looting, and murders are only a continuation of 30 years of racial politics.”

Not exactly a false statement. Although the LA riots were set off by the acquittal of the cops by an all-white jury, the riots probably wouldn't have been as bad without the social and economic conditions existing in the riot-torn areas ... conditions that certainly were partially a result of liberal policies that made many blacks dependent on welfare, as well as divisive racial politics. A lot of (misdirected) anger and frustration was being released ... the riots weren't just a reaction to the verdict.

“The Earth Summit is the creepiest meeting of politicos since the first gathering of Bolsheviks. Officially known as the UN Conference for Environment and Development, it will be held in Brazil in June; bad guys from all over the globe will attend.”

Something a lot of LGFers would probably agree with.

“[Hillary Clinton] is one of the most dangerous women in public life. Not only is she a fanatical abortion advocate, she wants parents to register with the government as a condition for having children to be able to sue and `divorce’ themselves from their parents. Maybe her daughter ought to sue her parents for attempting to raise her as a leftist. That sure qualifies as abuse to me.”

Can't exactly disagree with the first part, the rest wouldn't surprise me if true.

Don't get me wrong, I found most of the comments patently offensive and blatantly racist and anti-Semitic.

re: #149 RememberSekhmet?

Some bloke on HotAir named Laguna Dave made a really good catch

At the bottom of the same typewritten page accusing MLK of being a pedophile

Happy Holidays! My wife Carol, and our children and grandchildren, join me in wishing you and your family a wonderful Christmas and a Happy New Year.
So we have some evidence who typed what is a couple paragraphs above that, don’t we? It must be someone whose wife’s name is Carol.

This only proves that the writer knew about Paul's family situation. It doesn't really say anything about whether or not Paul wrote it or if it was a ghostwriter. That is the very nature of a ghostwriter - you allow them to write on your behalf, like a secretary.

The real issue here is how Ron Paul could have let this go on without knowing about it. I don't buy it. If it had been only a few times or been uncharacteristic of the rest of the policies, I would have believed it.

It's a bit like the Dearborn Independent all over again. And people said never again. It will only be "never again" if we keep vigilant.

re: #183 MagnaniomousCoward
Addendum:
I'm not saying that these Ron Paul newletters were as bad as the stuff published in the Dearborn Independent, but the half-assed distancing and denial of responsibility is somewhat similar.

Whoever runs his public relations needs to buy a dictionary; it's "publicly," not "publically. Unless he wrote it himself, but I'm sure he'd deny such accusations.

Ron Paul: 'I Wasn't Paying Attention'

Well, I guess it's difficult to pay attention if you have your head up your ass.
