ISM Nonviolently Attacks a Gate

Mon, Jul 28, 2003 at 3:53:23 pm PDT

The pro-Palestinian terror-enabling group known as the International Solidarity Movement had a little nonviolent riot today, peacefully attempting to destroy a gate in the West Bank. AP’s Palestinian photographers were there to document the brutal Israeli attacks on these gentle terrorist supporters.

International Solidarity Movement activists try to tear down a gate, part of a separation fence built by Israel, during a demonstration against the construction of the fence near the northern West Bank village of Anin Monday, July 28, 2003. Five protesters were wounded when Israeli soldiers fired rubber-coated bullets and tear gas to disperse the group of Palestinian and foreign protesters along the fence. (AP Photo/Mohammed Ballas)

Gil Shterzer reports that while staging this destructo-fest, these peaceful, nonviolent “activists” were shouting a familiar Hamas slogan in English: “From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free!” ...in other words, openly calling for the complete destruction of Israel.

But of course, AP and Reuters won’t tell you that.

Why are they not electrocuted? The fence is electrified, right? If not, why?

Oh that bandana is going to hide your identity how clever!

Rubber bullets! They should have their asses thrown in jail with a few burly jihadis who haven't seen the sun shine for a while.

WTG Israel! I'd have issued a verbal warning with a bullhorn, fired a warning shot with live ammo, then started dropping these saboteurs with head-shots. But your way, you get all the bad press, none of the respect, and legions of these asshats thinking they can harm your nation at will with no real personal risk. Turning the IDF into a joke will surely be a benefit too. We've got rent-a-cops here working food courts in suburban shopping malls who get better results.

I really wonder what these people do for a living. I think I'm correct in saying nothing; that they are all very privileged Berkly-esque liberals who run around w/ the terrorism supporting ISM on their parents dime.

Anybody mind if I call #4 an ASSHOLE?

I didn't think so.

7 Anne  Mon, Jul 28, 2003 2:08:23pm

This is disgusting. Why doesn't Israel come to its senses and deport all these people for crying out loud? There nothing but a bunch of troublemakers.

8 Darwin Akbar  Mon, Jul 28, 2003 2:08:47pm

I am glad for this. They did little damage and can now be arrested and deported. They can go to Rutgers and whine about it.

This past year, when my synagogue was building a new wing, we paid to have some bricks inlayed with our family names as part of our contribution. I would like to do the same with the fence - can I have my name etched into a nice sharp strand of electrified barbed wire? I've got $100 right here (and a nice new credit card).

9 Jheka  Mon, Jul 28, 2003 2:08:49pm

I find it regrettable that these idiots weren't arrested, charged and incarcerated for a long, long time. Euther that or put in a small rowboat just beyond Israeli territorial waters. As it is, this is becoming like a loony-lefty/anti-semite adventure tour. Like the running of the bulls for the morally bankrupt thrill-seeker.

10 Cluny  Mon, Jul 28, 2003 2:09:02pm

It would be nice if they could do that, but could you imagine the international press scene? There's no gain to dead "activists"; OTOH, imprisoning these nuts and making them part of the terrorists prisoners freed in the Abbas negotiations would be a great diplomatic move.

I find this a good review of the movie, a snip:

Mr. Holland's Opus spans thirty-one years in the life of a high school music teacher. When Glenn Holland (Richard Dreyfuss) first comes to the newly-dedicated JFK High School in 1964, he has a dream of spending a few years teaching to accumulate a nest egg, then returning to his true passion: composing. His loving wife, Iris (Glenne Headly) is completely supportive -- until she becomes pregnant. After that unexpected event, teaching is no longer just Glenn's "fall back position". It has become his means to provide for his family.

The Berlin Wall was built to keep the victims of the communists from escaping to the free world.
The security fence, is designed to allow the population targeted by Hamas for annihilation to be protected from splodeydopes.

"Israel will exist and will continue to exist until Islam will obliterate it, just as it obliterated others before it" -- preamble to Hamas Covenant.

Darn. There's a fence. Can't you just take away that fence so I can murder you guys. Pretty please.

29 captool  Mon, Jul 28, 2003 2:18:25pm

Ya know, a walls' purpose can be many different things. For instance, the Berlin wall was meant to keep in East German slaves to the Soviet State, whereas this wall keeps out bitch-ass moon demon worshippers who like to blow up buses with no regard for who is on the them.

Having never actually seen the movie, I really can't speak to how good it was. But I do know that the director is an alumni of my university, which is how I found out that he had also directed that other movie. Personally, I wouldn't have chosen Keanu Reeves, but then I'm partial to actors who can act.

Thanks for the summary, it was quite enlightening. I'll have to watch the actual Opus some time in order to better understand all of its complexities.

Well, I'd make them pay for the damage and then deport them. Then brand their group as hostile and refuse to let anyone from it in.

Hopefully their [Isreal's] foreign security agency already has a list of members....

It's better than the bad press of accidently killing them with rubber bullets (which are not very safe).....

Their is so much real injustice in the world, going crazy over Isreal trying to secure it's boarders just shows them for the jerks they are... Not to mention, if Arafat ever cracked down on their terrorists, Isreal would be able to loosen border restrictions...

What arrogant liars and hypocrites. An article by ISM members in today's JPost shows them as such, in their own words.

'We have all committed ourselves to the practice of nonviolence and do not assist anyone in committing acts of violence'

See above photo for evidence to the contrary.

ISM believes in the dignity of every human being.

Even terrorist apparently. Why else would they be tearing down a wall whose function is to keep terrorists out?

Consequently, we strongly oppose violence against all civilians.

Then why are you trying to destroy a security wall whose function is to protect innocent civilians from terrorists and murderers?

This includes all acts of terrorism, whether perpetrated by a state, group or individual.

See previous comment. Idiots.

We have all thoroughly committed ourselves to the practice of nonviolence and do not assist anyone in committing acts of violence.

See previous comments. Yes, helping to destroy Israel's security wall won't help Pali terrorists one bit. Assholes.

Although our movement is completely nonviolent

except when tearing down anti-terrorist security walls and interfering with Israel's security efforts

we must recognize that independent nations

except Israel, and maybe the United States

and occupied peoples have security concerns and rights to self-defense and resistance as specified under international law.

except for Israel. Hypocrites. They have no respect for Israel's rights to self-defense and resistance against terrorism.

OPPONENTS OF ISM claim that the movement's goal is to impede the army's job in stopping terrorism and even act as an accomplice to terrorist activities.

These opponents are correct. See above photo. Liars.

And, of course, Rachel Corrie, 23, was run over by a bulldozer driven by an Israeli soldier while attempting to protect the home of a Palestinian physician from illegal demolition.

Oh, really? But I thought the bulldozer ran her over twice.

Even more of these lies and misrepresentations at this link:

[Link: www.jpost.com...]

These people, as the photo above shows, are engaging in activities that could likely endanger Israeli troops and civilians. In doing so, they are giving assistance to terrorists. This is intolerable, and it is not non-violent.

ISM has apparently had their feelings hurt recently -- so badly in fact that they decided to pen an op-ed in the evil-occupier Jpost to prove that they are really just gentle legitmate resistance supporters.

Occupied peoples have the right to resist, By Tom Wallace and Radhika Sainath

ISM believes in the dignity of every human being. Consequently, we strongly oppose violence against all civilians. This includes all acts of terrorism, whether perpetrated by a state, group or individual. We have all thoroughly committed ourselves to the practice of nonviolence and do not assist anyone in committing acts of violence.

Israel does a piss poor job on both PR and dealing with these ISM types - they should be rounded up and tossed in the most miserable jail the Israelis can find - after a few months cooling their heels they should then be deported and charged for all expenses involved and barred from entering Israel again.

Further Sharon needs to tell the world that the wall is a fixture until there is 5 years of total peace (or some such thing) between Israel and her neighbors - much like the "right of return" is a fiction so to is the notion that the wall is anything more then a device to protect the Israeli population from the murerous intent of the Arabs.

More ISM news.

Here is what the ombudsman at the San Diego Union had to say of the hundreds of emails and calls received in outrage at the article by Sandi Tolbee (now removed from Sandiegounion.com but available by cache from Google) written just four days before the memorial of Marla Bennet, an innocent graduate student blown up in a cafe, compared to Rachel Corrie.

See: [Link: www.signonsandiego.com...]

That the editors of the SD Union didnt bother to do a bit more fact checking of the characterization of Ms. Corrie before letting the article run is not surprising.

That the "journalist" author was incredibly naive and simplistic in her comparison is not surprising.

That this same "award winning religious topic" writer continued with the article, despite the resistance of the Bennet family, in publishing something with this much hurtful bad taste, is not surprising.

That the ombudsman later deflects criticism of the moral equivalence by noting that "many" of the emailers were from out of town, or used profanity, is not surprising.

After all. This is the newspaper. We'll tell you what to think, and don't you dare question us. You are stupid profane people from out of town.

80 Brian Tiemann  Mon, Jul 28, 2003 2:50:17pm

Amazing. These trolls are genuinely amazing.

People don't believe me when I try to explain to them, face to face, just how devoid of intelligent reasoning ability the modern Left is. I point out how none of them appear to have reasoned out any geopolitical problem beyond some cutesy one-liner or sarcastic five-word slogan that they can paste on a signboard and wave around in costume, or are willing to profess any viewpoint that is not subversively ironic and filled with inside-out parallels to some historical event that they can't claim to have ever even deeply studied, let alone lived through; and yet they still don't believe me.

I'm bookmarking this thread, just so I can have an Exhibit A for future use.

Mr. "Reagan" once heard some sound-bite about tearing down the Berlin Wall, looks at today's situation in Israel without studying any of the reasons behind any of it, and thinks, "My! What a deliciously ironic insight I could make by repeating that one-liner!" I mean, dude! All the little mental images fit! It's got parallels! It's got irony!

For his next trick, he'll crack open a few neurons which may once have stored some factoid about a guy named Hitler who spent a decade rounding up Jews and exterminating them; what-hey! I know! I'll apply the same accusation to Israel today-- oh what luscius logic! Israel is the new Nazi state! Never mind any inconvenient facts, like about how Arabs living in Israel have more rights and are better franchised than Arabs in any of the native Arab countries surrounding it, or about how Israeli civilians are under constant threat of being the victims of random suicide attacks on buses or in restaurants. It's all just like Hitler's Germany!

I remember using these same mental tricks in arguments in eighth grade. I'm tempted to give Mr. "Reagan" the benefit of the doubt and assume he's still in high school, but the statistical fact that he's probably a good deal older and ought to know so much better is what makes me feel so ill about this pandemic of pseudo-thought plaguing the world today.

Mr. "Reagan", for your own good, please just pipe down. One of these years, after you've mentally grown up some, you'll look back at postings like the ones youv'e put here today and shudder.

Maybe when you've emerged from your fear, hatred, racism and paranoia, you'll look at it and shudder.

And who said I was "left."

Bush isn't "left" and he's not building a wall to keep the Mexicans out.

Hopefully the USA will prove itself better than facist, theocratic Israel. Hopefully.

Let's look at the ethnic cleansing wall as an example of what we could become if we're not careful Let every American go to that wall and see a warning.

RR,

Big difference between the Berlin Wall and the Security Wall. One was to keep people from escaping the other is to keep people from entering.

They are not isolating themselves from the world by building a security fence. Lots of countries have defences between them. I think you are mixing Israel up with North korea.

94 sean crowley  Mon, Jul 28, 2003 3:00:19pm

I still think there is a wonderful chance for a little old fashioned counter insurgency program here. Get a couple of College Republican types, or better yet, Colt types, to stop bathing for a few weeks and join the ISM and find out when things like this are planned. (Sometimes ya gotta take one for the team)

Can you imagine? These weasels start their "peaceful disobedience" and about 20 LFGers with tire irons come screaming over the hill willing only to practice the kind of disobedience that ends in pieces.

After about two such episodes, ISM would fade away. Can we get the IDF to look the other way?

See, to try to take countermeasures against terrorist attacks perpetrated daily (and many times daily-- remember how many attacks are foiled each day by the IDF) against your civilian population... why, that's just paranoid!

And racist! Just like it's racist to point out that there has been a palpable paucity of attacks against Israeli citizens by Jews in the past several weeks. I'm sure that's just my white hood getting in the way.

Are you having fun here, Mr. "Reagan"? Do you enjoy getting pointed and laughed at by the entire population of a blog comment board?

"Bush isn't "left" and he's not building a wall to keep the Mexicans out."

Again, a string of words with little meaning in reality.

I was born in Los Angeles, I have always lived in So. Cal. Having a rather porous border has HURT this state, plus building a wall 1300 miles between the US and Mexico is a logistic impossibility, but there are a combination of fences and patrols in an effort to secure the border. That is the right of nations to protect their citizens. How come the troll has so much trouble with Israeli's protecting their citizens.

Rhetorical question, I know. Jews are not allowed to do anything but be dhimmis, rape victims, slaves and object of murderous intentions.

118 Ayatollah Ghilmeini  Mon, Jul 28, 2003 3:16:51pm

Well the "Ronald Reagan" I knew hated terrorists and cowards. He would have just nuked Afghanistan then negotiated.

Our psuedo-Reagan tonight also forgets that this fence creates the very thing the Palestininians want but stops them from doing what they REALLY want. Reagan called things as they were and wouldn't call an act of self defense cowardly murder.

Lastly and most importantly, Ronald Reagan believed in Israel's right to exist free from terrorism, the darkest mark during his adminstration was caused by a suicide bomber, our Mr. Reagan here, intentionally misapporpriates a great man's greater meaning and turns it into something Reagan never was: small.

Reagan never took the side of tyranny against democracy.

Lastly, our faux-Reagan tonight forgets the truth that Israel often has taken security risks for Peace and that, when warranted Israel can and will remove the fence; but right now the fence is warranted, perhaps a different Palestinian leadership with different policies will convice the Israeli democracy to take it down.

When I saw IDF COS Gen. Yaalon speak recently he said the Palestinians had managed to kill exactly one Israeli with their rockets, everyone knows the suicide bombs are an entirely different matter. To abolish something that protects innocents, the old, women and children is the inverse of Ronald Reagan, as is asking a trusted ally to sentence some of her civilians to die is immoral depravity.

In short- whoever you are, you are not Ronald Reagan, you aren't fit to carry the gipper's piss bucket.

The one thing that interests me in all this engineered manipulation is the use of redheads. Disney has invented a new science of redhead archetypes, and along the way reinforced or created new roles in film for reds. Here, we have reds in the roles of (a heavy) Alicia Witt and Joanna Gleason. In the role of the creative teacher partner, (Sara) Alexandra Boyd is red. In the school crowd are about ten per cent reds, an enormous inflation over reality.

What could be more "apartheid" than the Palestinians demanding another Arab-only state?

Arab states are not generally known for their multiculturalism and tolerance of infidels. The Palestinians are no exception, and they demonstrate this by demanding dismantlement of the Israeli "settlements," which is the politically correct way to say, "no Jews allowed."

Now even if they get their Palestinian state, which they claim is the goal of all their terrorism, then why is it so unreasonable to have a fence separating Israel and "Palestine?" Don't countries have a right to control the flow of traffic across their borders?

The answer is that even if the Palestinian Arabs get their own sovereign state they will simply not accept Israel’s own sovereignty, and a fence between the two countries represents an obstacle to their true goal, and pipe dream, of conquering Israel itself.

That is why, in addition to demanding a "Palestinian" state, the Palestinians also demand a "right of return" to Israel itself. Apparently, just because they demand their own Palestinian state doesn't mean they want to actually live in it, but have plans to move into Israel instead. Barring that, they are quite content to continue blowing busses up, and aren't afraid to say so.

And of course, regardless of whether they are trying to move out of "Palestine" and into Israel, or simply have a hankering to blow up a disco, the last thing they want is a fence in the way.

Durn, I'm still trying to figure how an inanimate object as a wall can 'ethnically cleanse', is there some kind of leading edge technology that allows this to happen now?

I always thought too, that walls were statements of bounderies not to be crossed and they are usually statis aren't they? Can walls move and cleanse? Do they do this at night during a full moon?
Does Richard Dreyfuss have the means to create walking walls that cleanse? Can these walls play the piano too? Wait! Can these cleansing walls do laundry?

"Ronald Reagan" thinks he has found us a brilliant metaphor:

Didn't the Soviet's have a few slogans about "burying" us?

Well, actually, no. Kruschev said something along those lines, but it wasn't meant as a direct threat, to my knowledge. As far as I'm aware, the Russians did not have daily propaganda demanding the full destruction of "Yankee sons of pigs and monkeys" off "their" North American land.

Also, they didn't send suicide squads into our cities. I don't know of a single incident of a Russian soldier killing an American one; certainly none celebrated by the Russians as a glorious martyrdom operation. Which is why we're still here, no doubt.

Of course, that didn't keep us from having a Containment Policy, not to mention engaging in fun things like nuclear brinksmanship and proxy wars.

That Berlin Wall, by the way, was built by the Soviet side -- by the Red Army, to be exact -- to keep their new German subjects inside, not to keep Westerners outside. (Actually, Westerners were encouraged to come to the East Berlin side, since they had valuable hard currency.) The entire set up of the wall, from the minefields to the identity checks, was designed to keep the East Berliners in. Those few that escaped were aided and welcomed by West Berliners.

Which is a very long way of stating the blindingly obvious: that our man from Utah is an idiot whose understanding of history somehow manages to be inferior to his understanding of persuasive argument.

And I'm a fool for even wasting my time to say so.

165 ConventBabe  Mon, Jul 28, 2003 3:55:44pm

The wall is an Israeli tactic to annex and legitimise the occupied territories and the illegal settlements - a further violation of the fourth Geneva convention.

However, full annexation of the West Bank (if the third phase of the wall is completed as planned) would require offering citizenship to nearly 2m Palestinians (with another 1.2m in Gaza), which would quickly challenge the Jewish majority of the state. Israel is supposedly a democracy. Within Israel proper, all of its citizens—Arabs and Jews—have equal rights, at least on paper. Is the only way to maintain a Jewish majority in Israel to do a little ethnic cleansing, or maybe to formalise the already emerging appartheid system that distinguishes between the rights of Jews and Arabs?

At some points the wall strays at least 6 km into Palestinian territory and there are over 35 cases where the fence will cut off the residential section of Palestinian towns from their fields, and farmers will be dependent on Israelis opening gates for them so that they can work their lands. The city of Qalqilya, which now resembles an eastern block prison camp, is now surrounded on all sides, part of it by fence and part by an imposing, eight-metre-high wall. The encirclement leaves the town with a single gate for entry or exit, and has cut it off from most of its agricultural land, among the most fertile in the West Bank.

The wall is like a manifestation of everything that is wrong about Israel. The IDF have their rifle sights on pretty peaceniks like Tom Hurndall. The international press have their zoom lenses on the checkpoints and the watchtowers. People will cheer when this evil wall eventually falls, and you will be able to buy chunks of graffit covered concrete on e-Bay.

Yes, but the Israelis also had the temerity to build up whole cities on palestinian land! Like Tel Aviv! What ever shall we do? Better support genocidal maniacs only trying to liberate palestine, right? From the river to the sea, palestine will be free, right? Itbach-al-Yahud, and all that.

But you're not antisemitic are you? Just as long as the Jews jump into the gas chambers, you have no problems with them, right? Should they defend themselves... well, then, they have to be condemned as the worst practitioners of apartheid, ethnic cleansing, etc, right?

And conveniently for them it also protects their citizens from murderous Arab Nazis, giving them a claim of defense when really it's all about theft.

I bet some (if not most) of those splodeydopes were actually IDF agents, killing Israelis, so Sharon has an excuse to build this wall.

Anybody catch the tearjerking story on Newshour with Jim Lehrer tonight on "the wall?" Actually most of it's a fence, seems. But some poor Pali kids used to have only a 2 minute walk to school. Now it's 30 minutes, because they have to walk over to a security checkpoint.

Oh, sure, they can still enter the "wall," but it's 30 minutes they have to walk to enter through a checkpoint (keeping terrorists out) before they go to school (to learn how to hate Jews).

Photograph from the Jack Moses Collection, courtesy of USHMM Photo Archives.
American soldiers in front of the crematorium in Dachau. The corpses on the left are of SS personnel summarily executed by American troops. (April 29 - May 1, 1945)

Americans killed germans without trial. But if you know what happened at Dachau, if you know what they saw, then that affects your judgement of them.

Knowing that the West Bank and Gaza where all in Arab hands from 1948 to 1967 affects any sympathy for those whose only goal in those years was the total destruction of "the zionist entity."

Death-to-the-Jewish-State is the current variation of the theme of death-to-the-Jew. Only it covers more ground.

I think ol' Ronny Reagan is just takin' the piss out of you to irritate ya. (Either that or he fell off the little bus.) If Israel wanted to do some real ethnic cleansing, the rest of the world would be as ineffective in stopping it as they were in Rwanda. Look at the Arab hordes rushing in to save Iraq. It would take the UN 6 months to draft a resolution condeming it. The Arab world couldn't unite long enough to agree on the proper method to pork a camel. North America is "Red People" land,
Australia is "Aboriginal" land,

You mean ape-and-pig pen, don't you? As in Jews are apes and pigs, or Jews are descended from apes and pigs?

Lion's den: are you referring to the claim of Hafez al-Assad, the self-styled lion of Damascus, that the French-created modern "Syria" includes what is presently Israel, Jordan, and whatever surrounding areas were also in the Roman province of Syria?

This is the zoo theory of the Middle East, brought to you by -- as brownfinger says -- nuts.

I happen to be dual citizenship US/UK, and have family in England. Never have I heard such bloody crap fall out of their mouths about Israel or their politics. Nor have they ever acted as though they are above anyone else due to differences in ethnicity. And they backed the war in Iraq and they back morally and militarily Israel.

And anyone who has any sense in their craniums would not be desirous of living in London. The best of the best in living in Britain happens to be on the west coast of Scotland. Lout.

So Conventcow is back! Wonderful! I've missed the moronic prat - such an easy target!

Before you waste your time arguing with The Mad Cow, remember that this is the same dizzy broad who claims to be both an Oxford student and to have been invited to tea with British Nazi Unity Mitford - not realizing that the Jew-hating old bitch died in 1948. Of course, it's possible that it's taking her 60 years to complete her BA, since she is obviously dumber than a piece of toffee.

She's either a pathological liar or extremely ignorant and confused. Actually, I think she's probably both - as her idea that the Middle East has always been "Arab" shows, her lack of Clue is truly astonishing.

Her great concern seems to be that a "pretty" (personally I prefer manly and intelligent to pretty and moronic, but I'm not surprised that The Mad Cow prefers her men dimwitted and morally bankrupt) and ISM terrorist supporter got his face messed up. Well, Crap-for Brains Tom made the choice to go there, didn't he? (Personally, I wish Conventcow would go too, and sit down in front of a bulldozer herself - then she can go have tea with Unity Mitford in hell).

But I hope The Cow keeps on mooing! I just luuuuvvvv making fun of her. If I was still a practicing Catholic, I might feel ashamed of having a co-religionist as nastily anti-Semitic as she is, but she's too silly and dopey to take seriously.

I remember, not so long ago, when Israel and paleostan looked like they were on the verge of "peace." The bustling Arab shuk in Jerusalem was filled with Jewish and other Western tourists. Israelis were flocking across the border to Jordan and Egypt to visit and empty their pockets in Arab casinos (Islam didn't seem to mind the corruption of gambling).... if the Paleos had any brains at all they could have had their own country, enjoyed economic prosperity, etc. Hell, I'd have bought a falafel from them.

Their problems have been caused by their own hatred and stupidity. And they have been helped along by fools like the trolls posting here. Cowards and idiots -- their parents and grandparents allowed Hitler to steamroll through Europe, and their loathsome spawn are crawling out from the dirt to advocate the same for Israel.

Trolls notwithstanding, the Brits DID give us some worthwile things besides tea.

Like the British invasion. Nice of the Beatles and Stones to have taken a liking to "Black" music like R&B and soul from our segregated south and introduced it to our basically white mainstream audiences.

And then the Brits sent punk over. That was ok, for a while.

And stonehenge. Oh, and Hadrian's wall. Go figure, the Brits building a wall to keep the murdering barbarian Saxons out. Or were they just Germanic barbarians?

Just sayin.

Ethnic cleansing is removing an undesirable ethnic component from a population, which is not happening here. Israel is not removing Arabs from its population. Israel is simply trying to prevent the entrance of terrorists into its coutnry. Also, all countries have means for preventing free entrance - the US has its border patrols, for example. So once again, there is a double standard being expressed in this accusation.
Finally, if the leftists and Arabs are mad about this, it must be good for Israel.

334 zulubaby  Mon, Jul 28, 2003 10:34:05pm

335 AB  Mon, Jul 28, 2003 10:42:29pm

Holy fucking shit. Shut the fuck up troll.

If some country wants to put a fucking wall around their borders from another so-called country to protect themselves when they are definitely being attacked, then why are you having such a big deal about this? Israel does not care what you think or the world stage thinks. You are LOOKING for some reason to hate them. In any other border a country can make a big and strong enough border to their liking. Only Israel isn't allowed, even though they face the highest security risk from their borders than any other country in the world.
Shut up with your repetition. It loses meaning when you copy and paste it that many times. This is why I use FUCK sparingly.

United States is allowed to have a wall on Mexico for less important reasons than security. This is not the Berlin Wall.
And Israel is more multi-ethnic than any of it's surrounding 22 countries.
You aren't just hateful and stupid, you are one annoying brat. Go to bed.

336 Chana  Mon, Jul 28, 2003 10:43:42pm

Odd about that wall actually. The idea began as the darling of the left and the media. Seriously. All sorts of talking heads would complain that the building wasn't progressing, and how many lives could have been saved, etc. The left and the media desperately wanted the fence. Build a wall and get instant peace. Especially in the Tel-Aviv area which is what they most care about.

The right, on the other hand, claimed that the fence would be expensive and useless.

So - now the right is being blamed for the evil fence and the left is against it?

It's so hard to keep track without a scorecard.

Good point.

This IS the Brits' fault.

They were the ones who created Trans-Jordan out of Palestine for the sole purpose of paying back a WWI ally who was supposed to get Iraq (which was given to someone else as part of another deal).

and therein lies the start of all this.

of course, the mandate says that the jews are entitled to a state in palestine, but at the time jordan (trans-jordan) did not exist, so some people say the arabs are lucky us jews dont just take all of it :)

Arrive late to find I’ve missed the exhilaration of a troll hunt. Also missed the chance to ask Conventbabe whether she’s had tea with any interesting dead people lately.

(Face falls. Lower lip starts to quiver)

Could also have asked her for the fiftieth unanswered time which convent she attended. Maybe I sat next to her in school. No, couldn’t have done – you had to be intelligent to get into my school. Daddy probably paid for her to go to a private school, for the extra tuition needed to keep her out of a remedial education unit.

She wears fur in winter? Cruel, cruel girl. Poor little furry animals. You oppress them, Conventbabe. They are the underdog.

British people just don't want to be dragged into this totally partisan conflict, and we always support the underdog. That is part of what is great about being British.

First of all, I feel sorry for all the British people who would feel incredibly misreprented by the ignorance and racism of this sad, poor girl.

Secondly, British always back the underdog?

Like they did in Northern Ireland, or the Falklands, or most recently this spring in Iraq?

Oh, you meant when it's not the British who are in fact physically superior? My bad, I forgot I was dealing with a huge, racist hypocrite.

Ahnold, I can't speak for Charles, but are you kidding me?

Have you at all followed the Wye River accords, Camp David II or Taba?

The Israelis were trying to give away ALL of Gaza and 97% of the West Bank (with 3% of Israel proper to make up the deficit) and portions of East Jerusalem as a capital of the Palestinian state.

The large majority of Israelis are in favor of a two-state solution.

Don't you think if the Israelis wanted the destruction of the Palestinians, they'd have done it by now?

That is exactly what I am saying. Not every Palestinian wants Israel destroyed, and vice versa. Making absolute comments is pure idiocy.

We as Americans should be able to step back and tell our government, Democrat and Republican administrations alike, to look the conflict in a balanced way, which is impossible to do with the dialogue espoused by some of the bloggers.

Give me a break, Israel would never accept 3% of the land. Why do you think they keep on building settlements?

I have a friend and co-worker who is a Orthodox Jew, who has family in Israel, and a very good friend from college who is Palestinian, and whose family lives in Palestinian territories. So the Israelis are just coating regular bullets in rubber now?

The future of non-lethal weapons

Rubber bullet info

Invented by the British!

______
Rubber bullet
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.

Rubber bullets are rubber-coated projectiles fired from guns. They are usually non-lethal, unless fired at short range, but heavy enough to pierce skin. Rubber and wooden bullets are often used in riot control and to disperse protests.

The British use the name baton round. It was first used in the late 1960s, 25 mm teak cylinders were fired to control rioters in Hong Kong. The round and its later developments were widely used in Northern Ireland. The wooden round was soon replaced by a new development, which was commonly called the rubber bullet.

The initial British rubber bullet was 150 mm long, 38 mm in diameter and weighed about 145 g, it used rubberized plastic around a metal core. It was fired from a modified and lengthened Very pistol named the L67. The new rounds were first used in Belfast by the British Army in August 1970. Almost 56,000 rounds of this type were fired up until 1975. The instructions for firing the round indicated it should be fired at the ground so as to ricochet into the target. When fired directly the round could, and did, cause serious injury and a new type of projectile named the plastic bullet or baton round was introduced in 1972, initially used alongside the rubber bullet it eventually replaced it.

Ahnold 366

Give me a break, Israel would never accept 3% of the land. Why do you think they keep on building settlements?

The Camp David II agreement was on the table in 2000. Arafat rejected it and launched the current intifadah instead.

Aside from all the senseless killing of innocents, the intifiadah was the sole reason why the Israelis voted in Sharon and his Likud party after living under the more dovish Barak that made the Camp David and Taba offers of statehood.

I don't expect the Israelis to be as generous in 2003 as they were in 2000, after 800 civilians have been killed by Hamas, Islamic Jihad and Al-Aqsa Martyr's brigade.

I was a huge proponent of Camp David II and was hoping against hope that Arafat, for once in his life, would do the right thing.

He didn't. In fact, he did the opposite. Now, 3000 people have been killed in the wake of his decision - mostly his own people, BTW.

That's why Arafat is being isolated - there's more hope under Abu Mazen, but he has shown very little signs of strong leadership.

As for evenhandedness, I don't think anyone can ask for more than what Bush has said and done - if evenhandedness is your goal (it's not mine, BTW - fairness is. There's a difference). Despite the fact that many of the people you are complaining about happen to be vehemently against the Road Map, Bush is trying very hard to implement it.

I think Israel keeps building settlements because they want bargaining chips in place against untenable red line positions that the Palestinians have like "right of return."

You forget, the Israelis gave up all of the Sinai to the Egyptians and tried to give away all of Gaza (there are settlements in there too, you know) and the overwhelming majority of the West Bank.

If and when there is a Palestinian state, the settlers will either move out or become Palestinians (at their own risk).

Now, this website, the daily news in general is filled to overflowing with headlines that speak clearly of the evils of Islam. For anyone who does not yet know it, The Quoran says "slay the infidels wherever you may find them" and calls for death to christians and jews in particular over and over throughout its pages.

Are we AWAKE yet?!

Israel has been living with the horrors of Islamic Jihad in their back yard for decades,,, I doubt there are any lefty, pro Palistinian reporters who could bear up to that sort of thing for very long without calling for some one to "nuke the damned [bigoted word]s."

Hats off to Israel for demonstrating supreme patience in the most trying of times.

Shame on the nitwits out there who can't think, can't see, and are too intellectually lazy to separate propaganda from the facts and end up repeating the anti Israel garbage fed to them from hells little minions.

Pray for Israel, those who are arrayed against her are many, and America now seems poised to force Israel to give her enemies a staging ground in her back yard with "the Roadmap to Peace."

If America turns against Israel, I wouldn't blame God one iota if He were to let us get run over by the same Islamic steamroller that calls for the death of all Jews.

Electric fences? Oh, if only those fences COULD be electrified. Rubber bullets? Hey, why not a few thousand rounds of tranquilizer darts?! Make them dirtbags wh call for the extermination of Israel carry their tranquilized buddies home on their backs. I have to wonder if they pee all over themselves when shot with t-darts. So Israel virtually exports nothing. Tourism has vanished. Incomes there have dropped to what in Europe would be considered breadline levels. The average net monthly wage is 6,000 NIS ($15,000 per annum). Unemployment is nearing 300,000 and rising at a rate of 10,000 permonth. Public budgets have been slashed - several hospitals ran out of money last week, two had their drug supplies stopped and had to cancel all but emergency operations, Poriah, perched above 38 C heat above Tiberius, had to switch off its air conditioning to save money.

Sounds a little like East Germany during Communism.

Oh yeah, and they're building a fuck off wall around it as well. Nice place.

384 Joel  Tue, Jul 29, 2003 3:06:51pm

ConventBabe that wall should have gone up 10 years ago. Most nations at war have walls. Try going from India Kashmir into Pakistani Kashmir.

Also I love the thought of the Jew haters, trolls, A-Rabs, etc. getting their bowels in an uproar over the wall. The wall will not only protect the citizens of Israel from Splodeydopes, but in a real sense it will separate the civilized from the uncivilized. I doubt that there is a great demand from Israeli Jews to be treated at Pali hospitals, on the other hand A-rabs from all over the Middl East want to be treated at Hadassah Medical Center, etc. Well good luck being treated by the "superb" medical personnel in Jenin!

BTW if you want a career at the BBC you'd better know your shit and be good at it because the Beeb will be totally privatized and you cannot count on a lifetime position.

Bottom line. The ISM should be barred from Israel. They are going to keep pushing until they show their true colors I'm sure that a quick run through of the leaders rolodexes will show their ties to other more obvious terrorist groups.

The ISM have a heart tugging issue, they're taking advantage of an unfortunate situation, which from the outside can be perceived in many ways. Its a reality, the life of the average Palestinian basically sucks, and things are getting progressively worse for the average Israeli. The areas where "the fence" and added security are going up are hotspots, everyone knows this, its problematic as hell. What do you do? The fence is an unflattering, but unfortunately important tool for security given the recent rise in violence.

Some of the comments are so agressive and closed minded. There are well meaning peace activists, and we should respect non-violent approaches to conflict. But the ISM are dangerous and give real peace activists a bad name. Kick them out.

I love Vanessa Redgrave. She is so elegant. She was just perfect as Clarissa Dalloway.
