Good morning Charles! You are certainly very gracious about those "awards".

Congratulations Small Dead Animals...surprise PETA isn't trying to pull the plug.

9 Fat Bastard Vegetarian  Wed, Jan 14, 2009 7:40:55am

I voted like a dead guy in Chicago. Congrat's anyway Charles! Can't think of a place I'd rather be.

10 spirochete  Wed, Jan 14, 2009 7:41:09am

I still want an LGF bumper sticker.

11 meeshlr  Wed, Jan 14, 2009 7:41:11am

I started reading small dead animals and little green footballs at about the same time as my first introduction to blogs. Before that, I thought blogs were just self-indulgent online diaries ... boring. I was so wrong! Now I can't imagine not checking each one every day. Usually more than once.

12 phoenixgirl  Wed, Jan 14, 2009 7:41:51am

well Charles, the blogger at small dead animals claims to read lgf "naked while eating cherry ice cream" so you still win.

13 meeshlr  Wed, Jan 14, 2009 7:42:21am

I want an LGF t-shirt ... ladies-style.

oooh ... or maybe a lounge t-shirt? That would be really cool.

Please?

re: #3 Sharmuta

I've gone to the site (maybe once?) a couple of years ago...that was when the website's blogger was being harassed by the Human "Rights" people...(and I only became aware of the site through Ezra Levant's blog about the HRCs, etc.).

Haven't had cherry ice cream in years.

16 meeshlr  Wed, Jan 14, 2009 7:43:25am

Not true. She reads "Protein Wisdom" naked while eating the cherry ice cream.

17 freedombilly  Wed, Jan 14, 2009 7:44:00am

I love to eat dead animals.

18 meeshlr  Wed, Jan 14, 2009 7:44:04am

I'm assuming that she's fully dressed while reading LGF. Or maybe just eating a different kind of ice cream?

Categories were chosen - self-selection plays a big role... you can nominate yourself. Blogs can't be in multiple categories.

Congrats to all the winners, including Michael Totten, Jammie, and Carl in Jerusalem.

re: #2 realwest

Good morning Charles! You are certainly very gracious about those "awards".

There's no reason not be gracious -- it's an internet poll. As I've pointed out over and over in many different situations (Ron Paul!), Internet polls are basically meaningless. This one is a popularity contest that doesn't measure anything real -- and it's very simple to manipulate it in ways that cannot be detected.

I guess I'll just have to accept that LGF's place is among the other losers, like Victor Davis Hanson, Powerline, and Bill Whittle.

Resistance is futile

With Hamas taking its orders from Khaled Mashal in Damascus and its weapons and money from Iran, one might be forgiven for thinking that the rocket attacks on Israel are really a thinly disguised act of aggression by Damascus and Teheran. But we are never to think that. What we are meant to believe is that the cause of peace requires that Hamas be allowed to survive and the Iranian weapons shipments to continue.

The conventional wisdom is that Israel “can never win” and must therefore buy its way out from under the rain of rockets. Who do they make the check out to? Hamas, Damascus or Teheran?

If you support peace in the Middle East, then you should support Israel in destroying Hamas. In urging a ceasefire now, which will enable Hamas to survive to fight another day, the UN is ruining (yet again) any hope for peace.

The UN (or at least a certain very influential contingent) doesn't want "peace", they want an Arab victory and the destruction of Israel. Or, at the very least, a continuation of low level warfare (death by a thousand cuts) that they can blame on the Jews.

BTW, I cast my votes for Ace.

I still think LGF is the clear leader in the category, but we were so far behind here, and Ace and "Animals" were literally so close, I thought my vote would have more value that way.

You mean Jihad Watch and Atlas Shrugs?
I'll name 'em, without hesitation.

This poll "meant everything to them" because they're more obsessed about attacking Charles Johnson, than they are about voting for people who actually do quality work.

In doing so they did a great disservice to the people who were actually hosting the polls, and they should apologize to the web hosts for abusing their bandwidth to carry out a personal vendetta.

RS is an intelligent man and a good writer but clearly, that's all he is.
Personality wise? As far as I'm concerned, he's a vindictive, vicious, mean-spirited little toad... I didn't know it before, but I sure do see it now. And sadly, so do a lot of other folks.

He likes to howl incessantly about people who are "trying to damage his reputation". My observation is that he does enough to damage his reputation all by himself, without help from anyone else. His website has become so sickening in content that I can't even bring myself to visit any more.

Pamela Geller? 100 percent pure attention-whoring back stabber.
She's gone completely off the rails, and one can only hope that her drooling cyber-johns have the good sense to wear a glove when they log on.

Someone should tell Ms. Geller that collecting votes from people who are voting for you because they hate someone else (instead of giving you a vote because you actually - ya know - earned it) diminishes any legitimate claim to achievement.

92 Kenneth  Wed, Jan 14, 2009 8:15:44am

Obama & Cheney, sounding very much alike on the problem of Gitmo:

Smart, nuanced, liberal Obama understands the problem:

"It is more difficult than I think a lot of people realize," the President-elect explained. "Part of the challenge that you have is that you have a bunch of folks that have been detained, many of whom who may be very dangerous who have not been put on trial or have not gone through some adjudication. And some of the evidence against them may be tainted even though it's true. And so how to balance creating a process that adheres to rule of law, habeas corpus, basic principles of Anglo American legal system, by doing it in a way that doesn't result in releasing people who are intent on blowing us up." - Barack Obama

Evil, Neocon Cheney, saying pretty much the same thing:

And these folks are, in fact, unlawful combatants, adversaries of the United States, members of al Qaeda. And I think that's true for most of them there. As I say, there's a regular, annual review of each of their cases to make certain that we're still justified in holding them. And if not, to send them back to their home country, if they'll have them.

Well, a lot of people, including the president, expressed the view that they'd like to close Guantanamo. I think everybody can say we wished there were no necessity for Guantanamo. But you have to be able to answer these other questions before you can do that responsibly. And that includes, what are you going to do with the prisoners held in Guantanamo? And nobody yet has solved that problem. - Dick Cheney

They want a two state solution -Palestine and Palestine II.

re: #81 Ben Hur

I read a report this morning (can't find link) that Hamas in Gaza "accepted" the Egyptian proposal but added or changed the conditions (ie. open border crossing with no Israeli security). The Egyptian intel chief Osman Suleiman told Hamas to "accept the ceasefire deal as written, or else Hamas will be blamed for continuing the conflict." In other words, Egypt is fed up. Meanwhile, Hamas leaders in Syria rejected any ceasefire. They're prepared to fight to the last Gazan.

Pamela Geller? 100 percent pure attention-whoring back stabber.
She's gone completely off the rails, and one can only hope that her drooling cyber-johns have the good sense to wear a glove when they log on.

Don't sugar coat it Rose, give it to us straight. (I wont get you started on Malkin.) ;-)

You know what is shocking? How few people voted at all!

I'd venture to say this poll is not yet widely known or people just don't care.

Probably best.

I remember back when I voted for SDA for best small something or other (new? Canadian? foreign?) blog, or something of that sort. Kudos for the growth and success!

As the resident provocateur at SDA, I have to say that although LGF is a daily stop on my internet travels, small dead animals is my first destination of choice.

109 ceallaighgirl  Wed, Jan 14, 2009 8:55:42am

I love LGF, but yay Small Dead Animals! I love reading that blog. I have to keep up on the Canadian politics as I inch my way closer and closer to Canuckistan, husband in the navy there. It's good to follow what's going on with our neighbours to the north . . . it seems that lots of what happens up there tends to trickle down here eventually over time.

I dislike Small Dead Animals for the way Kate treats Marc Emery. Won't read it.

Were they drinking before they did that?

They were clearly doing something.
And I'll leave it at that.

Aww, c'mon... does anyone know of a good Canadian to English dictionary? I just read the article linked from the SDA post on the Obamamobile and already I have multiple issues... like what is a "tyre", how fast is 100km/hr and does it really have a 10-disc changer... or is that the equivalent of a 6-disc changer in America, once you convert from the metric system?

115 mardukhai  Wed, Jan 14, 2009 9:35:39am

I did honors in Canadian Studies in graduate school. (Really!)

I eventually gave up on it, however -- It's a rather unique discipline. The deeper you get into Canadian Studies, the less there is to know.

"tyre" is British usage. We use "tire" in Canada.

100 km/hr = 62 MPH.

FWIW, most Canadians of a "certain age" still think in Imperial units. My Suburban gets x miles per gallon, not Y liters per 100 km. Gack!

Kevin Libin: United under the swastika
Posted: January 12, 2009, 3:56 PM by Kevin Libin
Kevin Libin, Israel, Calgary, nazis, gaza

Critics of Israel are often quick to insist that they’re not anti-Semitic—just anti-Zionist, anti-“occupation,” or something along those lines. But not these guys: at a protest against Israel in downtown Calgary on the weekend, the Nazi group, the Aryan Guard, showed up to march alongside the Muslims. Of course, the Aryan Guard is honest enough to admit they just plain hate Jews, not bothering to strain themselves with arguments of nuance. They fit right in on Saturday with their posters of Israeli flags defaced with the accusation “Terror State.” As Darcey at Dust My Broom notes, the 150 “anti-racists” who came out in force to protest an Aryan Guard march in downtown Calgary last year didn’t complain this time. In fact, they marched right along with the Aryans, united under the swastika: the Arabs and Communists labeling the Jewish State a “Nazi” regime; the skinheads hoping to resurrect the Real McCoy.

Event organizer Shadi Abuid—who last made news a few years back as a university student when he brought to Calgary Norman Finkelstein, the popular anti-Israel author of “The Holocaust Industry”—told Canwest Global he was impressed with the “various groups uniting under one voice.” He explained that he had “directly told” the neo-Nazis that he'd prefer they didn’t join the march. “But in these demonstrations you can control the crowd but you can't control the emotions . . . you can't deny people's right to walk,” he shrugged.

That’s true. Except, many of the same organizers behind Saturday’s march attempted to deny the freedom-to-demonstrate of an Israeli supporter just the other week. At a protest in front of Prime Minister Stephen Harper’s constituency office in southwest Calgary January 2nd, Gazan supporters called the cops to complain when one man showed up waving an Israeli flag. There were 150 pro-Palestinian protestors, but the single Israeli supporter was told by police that he must leave or be charged with "inciting civil disorder,” according to this account (with photos). Protestors reportedly cursed at and threw shoes at the man.

The anti-Israel, anti-Zionist, anti-whatever protestors should indeed get the benefit of the doubt when it comes to accusations of being Jew-haters. But attempting to suppress the rights of Israel’s supporters, while standing up for the rights of Nazis to march alongside them arm-in-arm, can only make drawing that distinction a lot more difficult.

I GOT THIS VIA LITTLE DEAD ANIMALS a very good blog

SDA does an incredible job in a very hostile environment. Freedom of expression is not as casually accepted in Canada as it is in the US, and the Conservative blogs are subject to an incredible double standard with regard to this.

That SDA has survived and thrived is a small miracle and a testimony to the intelligence of its owner.

The proprietress, Kate, is even now being sued by the usual anti-free speech anti-conservative anti-West anti-everything-good-in-our-society crowd. A donation to her defense fund, and also those of the other Canadian blogs who fight the good fight, will always be one to a good and important cause. Remember that we are fighting battles here that the US may have to fight in a few years.

125 Mostly sane, most of the time.  Wed, Jan 14, 2009 3:17:07pm

Congratulations, Charles, on the classy behavior; there isn't enough of that to go around these days.

This is why I am here, and not at sites that shall not be named.

I will confess to having voted for LGF like a Chicago democrat. I think next year I'll go the library and vote on every machine there, too.
