When did that twit have a meltdown? I did see Janine Turner with Beck in San Antonio on FNC.
She was pushing her theory that the Tea Parties were an expression of racist hate (brought about by a biological defect) of The Big Zero because he was a black man. Oh, and any African-Americans who showed or spoke at the Tea Parties were suffering from Stockholm Syndrome. Never mind the facts. (In other words, no one has a right to observe reality and think for themselves.)
I caught Hannity replaying her rant on his radio program and it really reminded me of Goebbels going off about the Jews.

The commandos briefly detained and questioned the seven gunmen, he told Reuters, but had no legal power to arrest them.

The Somali government plans to present its proposals to combat the sea gangs at a major donors' meeting on Somalia in Brussels on Wednesday and Thursday.
It says it needs more money to tackle insecurity on land and to provide jobs for the country's many out-of-work young men.
Most of Somalia's pirate gangs operate from the semi-autonomous northern region of Puntland, where many of them say they first took to the seas to stop illegal fishing by European fleets and the dumping of toxic waste.

Like closing Guantanomo and having no idea where he's going to send the detainees? Like renaming the War on Terror? That certainly was a feat of semantic genius that will have our enemies scurrying for cover. Like cutting funding on Missile Defense in the face of growing threats from North Korea and Iran? That'll show 'em. Like having his SoS meeting with the Russians and giving them a reset button. That certainly was Churchillian. Like going to Europe and apologizing for our arrogance and derision? Sure made me proud////.

He wanted to "send a message to the GOP" by defeating McCain. He got his way....going on national TV and crying all the time seems like a really strange celebration.

The odd thing is that LGF hasn't shifted on the political spectrum, it's everybody else who moved. Ron Paul, Alex Jones, et al were always considered crackpots here. We still oppose Islamic terrorism and support Israel but do it with Euro-Nazis. Racists, White Nationalists and conspiracy theories have never gone over very well here. I'm glad to see that this is one of the few places that hasn't gone completely batshit insane.

The Democrats are basically a loose coalition of single-interest interest groups that only have one thing in common. They want the government to fix or force their pet issue and anyone that doesn't agree with that is a monster to them.

It really is a fascinating phenomenon; watching everybody go nuts pretty much all at the same time. It was very instinctive and most people seem to have made the shift naturally. I guess it's just a part of being politically out of power and impotent. It's just curious that they all went the Ron Paul/Alex Jones direction. I never would have guessed that. I would have though some people might go that direction but I thought for sure some would go to the old school religious right. Somehow everybody knew that the John Birch society was the way to go. Fascinating.

I remember basically screaming at the TV set when Saddam was bombing the Kurds. I thought we had the hardware in place for a military response and that we should have taken action against Saddam at the time. Of course that never took place.
We encouraged the Kurds to rise up, then left them hanging, not a happy moment.

re: #305 Sharmuta
And what's with Ace?
1. Ace put up an LGF thread with no comment, but gave LGF the last word, so it was still lukewarmish pro-LGF.
2. A bunch of AoSers started with the hatin'.
3. Someone posted on a LGF thread, comment #227, noting this at Ace's.
4. Charles posted a reponse, in that LGF thread, to #227, saying he couldn't go to AoS any more because of all the hatred there.
5. Some AoSer calling himself a "coward", watching that LGF thread, posted on the AoS thread, at #59, Charles' response.
6. Ace posted that he never saw Charles as on his side on social issues. Also mentioned he "fucking hates Alex Jones with a passion". Ace has generally not been insulting LGF on that thread that I can see.
I don't know if there's anything "with" Ace in the sense of a problem; maybe some uncomfortableness with the direction of LGF lately.

In fairness, if you are going to make that spin, we supported rape rooms and even armed Saddam when it suited our national interest. BTW, in neither case did we really "support" rape rooms, maybe just ignored some things going on to keep the oil flowing under the last half dozen administrations. I'm not pround of all of our history of looking the other way to keep the oil coming and I'm talking both parties.

Not that it matters, but that was on Bush one's
The Iraqi survivors and American critics of President George H. W. Bush say the president encouraged the rebellion after halting UN coalition forces at Iraq's southern border with Kuwait at the end of the Gulf war.[7] Soon after the uprising began, fears of a disintegrating Iraq led the Bush Administration to distance itself from the insurgents.
Officials downplayed the significance of the revolts and spelled out a policy of nonintervention in Iraq's internal affairs. On March 5, Rear Admiral John Michael McConnell, director of intelligence for the Joint Chiefs of Staff, acknowledged "chaotic and spontaneous" uprisings were under way in 13 Iraqi cities, but stated the Pentagon's view that Saddam would prevail because of the rebels' "lack of organization and leadership." On the same day, Secretary of Defense Dick Cheney said "it would be very difficult for us to hold the coalition together for any particular course of action dealing with internal Iraqi politics, and I don't think, at this point, our writ extends to trying to move inside Iraq."[9]

As for the rest of the ME yes I do think it is closer to being a sane place now than what it was in 2000. At least no more insane than it would be if Saddam were still around with a wallet full of oil for food cash.

During Desert Storm, George Bush Senior urged the Iraqi people to revolt against Saddam, and they did, in 14 of 18 Iraqi provinces. Then, once Saddam had been expelled from Kuwait, we fecklessly opened our lines and allowed his Republican Guard tank battalions to trundle back into Iraq unmolested, wyhere they proceded to massacre hundreds of thousands mostly unarmed freedom-desiring Iraqi civiliam citizens, whos only crime was to heed and believe our President. The ignoble ambandonment and betrayal of the Iraqi people by Bush Sr. remains one of the most distressing stains on our national honor in recent memory. We owed them a blood debt of freedom, and we are paying it now.
If Obama should decide to snatch defeat from the jaws of a joint US-Uraqi victory now, and abandon and betray these freedom-desiring people twice in two successive generations, I could quite understand enraged Iraqi desiring revenge and retribution against us, and Al Qaeda would be all too willing to give them the opportunities to exact it within our shores.

NPR this morning was going on about their reporter, an Iranian-American, who was just sentenced to eight years for espionage in Teheran.
Note that she was arrested January 21, the day after Obama was sworn in. Test/provocation for the new President? Probably. Hostage against good behavior? Maybe.
NPR's squawking heads were going on about "international protests" which would "hold the regime's feet to the fire," or something. What do they imagine "international protests" are going to mean to the mullahs?
Meantime, the imprisonment of this reporter is something Obama wholly owns; it happened entirely on his watch and he cannot blame it on the prior administration.
What is he doing? What will he do?
So far, he has expressed "disappointment", I believe.

If we hadn't allowed the Republican Guard tank battalions back into Iraq where they slaughtered freedom-desiring Iraqis in the hundreds of thousands, there would have been little need for the UN to institute the northern and southern no-fly zones, to prevent the genocidal tank battalions from receiving bomber and helicopter gunship air support.
As it was, those measures stanched the flow of blood, but couldn't end it, as the tank battalions themselves continued with their massacres.

Wade and c) I assume you meant "Bush and his evangelical horde" and I still don't understand that at all. What evangelical horde was Bush leading, anyway?
And I hate to say this, but ya know, I pray on Sunday mornings too - assumed Bush did, but never heard him.
Mind you I had a LOT of disagreements with Bush, but not on those points you're talking about and most of my issues with Bush were that he was too nice. Katrina was in no way, shape or form his fault and he let the Dem's get away with painting him with that; even with a Dem Congress that could overide his veto, he still should have vetoed a number of laws that he didn't. And I wish he'd have ended the threat of Iran getting a nuke cause I DO think Iran will use the very first one they get - on Israel and I admit it, I'm a HUGE SUPPORTER OF ISRAEL.

I am going to take a bit of a risk here posting this...
I was reading an article in Slate, proposing a strictly power-politics rationale for an Israeli strike on Iran. It's an interesting read in its own right, if only to get a different, "objective-esque" perspective.
Following a link embedded in that article, I found myself on a shady looking website, that appears to be quite anti-Israel (hence the "risk" in my posting this)...
The page in particular that I read is an interview with Benny Morris, supposedly published by Ha'aretz in 2004. I found it interesting how Morris takes in stride that in war bad things happen, and that sometimes they are strategically necessary, even if liberal sensibilities scream out against them.
I was wondering what some of the other lizards thought of Benny Morris' views on the whole conflict (those outlined in this interview, not in general, I know he is a controversial figure).
I am not sure as to the accuracy/honesty of the website and as a result, of the interview itself, but the dialogue transcribed raises some very interesting points about the reality of war and necessity of action in difficult situations.

Bush was a symptom of the shell-shocked, post-impeachment Right of 2000. I miss Brit Hume and I like Greta and O'Reilly. Greta gave the only real glimpse into Sarah Palin's life. I am also a fan of Meghan Kelly both she and Greta bring a lot of attention to issues facing women such as the honor killings.

Dont forget what the media got away with in 2008, folks. Fuck the msm.
Is getting away with, sharm. We're hearing more about the DHS briefing about Americans opposed to 0bama's policies being lumped in with neonazis and skinheads, the political leanings of the cop killer in Pittsburgh and how great this cabal of leftists are- the ones who live at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. who think American military and economic supremacy are bad things that must be stopped.
Has there been any follow up in the MSM on who burned down Gov. Palin's church in Wasilla, AK? How about the latest on the investigation of who mailed white powder to churches and Mormon temples in California immediately after Prop. 8 passed? Or...for the sake of old-time journalism, where the heavy weaponry being used in Mexico's narcoinsurgency is coming from (hint: those RPGs and belt-fed machineguns probably weren't purchased at the Apple Valley Gun Works)?

re: #435 avanti Well you raise a good and interesting point. IIRC, the Kurds were in the middle of their own rebellion when we were finishing Gulf I, and both Bush and others - like Cheney I think - told the truth: the coalition that ousted Iraq from Kuwait included Arabs from Morroco, Tangiers and other state and had we invaded Iraq, that Coalition would have fallen apart (how and to what effect I don't know) but I still don't see how we could have helped the Kurds without shattering the coalition (remember: this was the FIRST TIME that Arab soldiers had fought alongside the US)
and the Kurds themselves seemed to be disorganized, to put it mildly. Once we had W there, a lot of folks (mostly Democrats) thought we should have divided up Iraq into three parts: Shiite, Sunni and Kurds and that I think would have been a huge mistake.

Take the latest Beck worship for example. If he were spouting insanity while on CNN the way he is doing so on FNC now, none of the whiners we are hearing from now would even bat an eye at the criticism. More likely than not, they would gleefully join in.

snip
After last night's threads I downloaded and read the DHS intelligence analysis. I find it to be dead on. It isn't saying what you think it is. It is describing the potential recruitment pool of _existing_ nut groups. And I think they are right. If you are a recruiter for al-Qaeda or StormFront you look for the disaffected. You look for the disaffected that have the training to bring violence. And, in fact, the militia movement of the 90's did exactly that. This is exactly the type of threat analysis that in the military I would expect my '2 to bring to me. Where are the potential threats?
If you read the analysis it talks about gun owners buying up huge amounts of ammo. It says that they are afraid that Obama will try and take it. Which _is_ exactly why people are buying up ammo. Surfers of the web will know that in every "gun"thread there is someone, or someones, that say that the "Government will take their guns from their cold dead hands". If you are a government considering a step in that direction...as the report says Obama is..then this has meaning. These are potential threats.
I found the report to be poorly written at best even if for a limited delivery audience. But the basis is sound. If you don't have actual on the ground HUMINT you look to similar conditions. Which is the growth of the militia movement in the 1990's. And it mirrors today!
I still think that Obama has flubbed this. His handling of this event has actually pushed, in my mind, the warnings this report give forward.
If enough people feel threatened to the degree that the report worries about...remember it isn't saying things _are_ this way only that they may go this way..then the report becomes a self fulfilling prophesy.
When we wrote intelligence analysis like this in the military we hoped, and we presented it so, that it also spoke to the leadership. It should also warn them of what they also had to do to stop a potential conflict. I hope that Obama reads it the same way. STOP PUSHING.

re: #596 Syrah
When I was living in San Jose, there were areas of the town where the cockroaches used Raid back at you. Scary bastards. They would actually attack. (They would mass so thick that when they would try to get away they would head right for you.)
When I was first stationed in Iwakuni Japan I noticed roaches were everywhere in my barracks room. My new roommate was an odd ball that didn't seem to mind the little bastards. So I went to the PX on my off day picked up some Raid Roach Bombs, opened all the wall lockers (except my roommate's), set up the foggers, left a sign on the door with the time they went off, and went and spent 6 hours at the Marine Lounge. Came back to find the floor covered with dead roaches. Wall to wall. I was in the middle of sweeping them up when my roommate walked in. He had this strange look on his face like I did something wrong.

re: #459 GlockNspell
"but the american people resoundingly said they dont wantthese right wing creatinoists in power."
Sorry, but that dog won't hunt. Obama outspent McCain by 7-1 (cause Obama was the FIRST presidential candidate in over 20 year to not take Public Financing, Democrat or Republican) and had the MSM entirely (with the exception of FOX) in his hip pocket) and the Americans who voted for him were Blacks (understandable, getting one of their own elected President mattered to them as much as getting JFK elected mattered to Roman Catholics) Hispanics - cause they Hoped Obama would in fact grant amnesty to the undocumented workers here - and a large % of union workers from the UAW, The NEA, and whatever the hell the Public Employees union is called - and some White's who would vote Democrat no matter who was running and the rest believed in Obama's Hope and Change. Uh huh. And what we've gotten is advisors from Clinton (mostly and that doesn't even include Hillary Clinton as Sec of State) and other "Beltway Insiders" and the change is that - ta da - we're not gonna tax just those making over $250K a year (which would have killed small business in any event) but those making a helluva lot less than that. Bush was NOT an example of the Crazy Right, unless you're an ole Al Gore supporter who believes the fix was in at SCOTUS over Florida, without realizing that if Gore had carried his HOME STATE - you know, the folks who knew Gore the best - then Florida would have been irrelevent. What you are seeing now IS some crazy right wingers, but MOSTLY what you're starting to see are Americans who really DON'T want Socialism at all - and before you go to the Rassmussn poll showing 53% for captialism and 47% for socialism, the actual Rasmussen Report found that to be true only with those under 30; in every age group over that, more, much more than 0% wanted capitalism, not socialism. Period. The voters voted for an empty suit, a guy with NO proven record at all, cause he promised them he'd change politics as it had been for a long time, would make government "transparent" (and then had Pelosi shove that Stimulus bill down Congress throat with most congresscriters not having had time to read it, and he did only by making it more socialistic - he didn't change players any at all - all of his people were Clinton or at least Well Known Dems before he got elected (except that token Republican who's got some cabinet job not worth remembering). His Hope is giving BILLIONS to GM only to see them, by May 1, probably, file for bankruptcy anway; try to control the banking industry and not allow banks to pay back bailout money now that credit has been freed up. Hell, except for the Pirates and refusing to go to the race baiting meeting, I can't really think of anything good that Obama has done.
The World sure as hell doesn't like us anymore. And I can't think of any new jobs programs that have helped the unemployed who are now at RECORD levels, especially in Michigan and California and Ohio - and all of those are getting worse, not better.

Yup. When I went to check on my grandma the other day, they were pushing that "slanders all veterans" false meme. I told her what a load that was, that the part of the report they're getting that from stated that extremist groups would target a small percentage of returning veterans for recruitment, and what she was watching was a blatant distortion.
Grandma doesn't have as much on the ball as she used to, but she's still sharp enough to see that FNC is no different from CNN, NBC, ABC, or any other MSM outlet when it comes to sensationalist distortion tactics.

To me, that DHS briefing demonstrates that a gov't agency formed in the wake of 9/11 has paradoxically gone into a pre-9/11 mindset.
And if the DHS wants to play that game (anyone concerned about gun rights, illegal immigration, abortion etc. is potentially the next Timothy McVeigh), they left off some other issues that could potentially expand the pool of possible recruits.

If we are mark'd to die, we are enow
To do our country loss; and if to live,
The fewer lizards, the greater share of honour.
Stinky's will! I pray thee, wish not one lizard more.
By Charles, I am not covetous for brains,
Nor care I who doth feed upon my foe;
It yearns me not if others my garments wear;
Such outward things dwell not in my desires.
But if it be a sin to covet exploding heads,
I am the most offending soul alive.
No, faith, by Cos, wish not a leftard or moonbat.
Stinky's peace! I would not lose so great an honour
As one lizard more methinks would share from me
For the best hope I have. O, do not wish one more!
Rather proclaim it, Charles, thou my host,
That he which hath no stomach to this fight,
Let him depart; his exit speech shall be unmade,
And lead for ballast put into his rear;
We would not die in that moonbat's company
That fears his fellowship to die with us.
This day is call'd the Feat of Brains Crispin.
He that outlives this day, and comes safe home,
Will stand a tip-toe when this day is nam'd,
And rouse him at the name of Stinky.
He that shall live this day, and see old age,
Will yearly on the vigil feast his neighbours,
And say 'To-morrow is Brains Crispin.'
Then will he strip his sleeve and show his scars,
And say 'These wounds I had on Brains Crispin's day.'
Old lizards forget; yet all shall be forgot,
But he'll remember, with advantages,
What feats he did that day. Then shall our names,
Familiar in Green Footballs as household words-
Charles the King, Sharmuta and Dianna,
Slumbering Behemoth, NY Nana, Jimmah,
Zombie and Racer X, Kilgore Trout and Noam Sayin'-
Be in their flowing cups freshly rememb'red.
This story shall the good lizard teach his hatchlings;
And Brain Crispin shall ne'er go by,
From this day to the ending of the world,
But we in it shall be remembered-
We few, we happy few, we band of nestlings;
For he to-day that 'splodes some heads with me
Shall be my nestling; be he ne'er so vile,
This day shall gentle his condition;
And neocons in hiding now-a-bed
Shall think themselves accurs'd they were not here,
And hold their yarbles cheap whiles any speaks
That fought with us upon Brain Crispin's day ...

Two interesting things about that article:
1) Obama is using the "they can't blame me for what happened when I was three months old" line which is basically a variation on his weaseling out of his connection with Bill Ayers.
2) There are a lot of lefty governments in Latin America. Latin America has long been run on the cacique/peon model; the Communist gloss is merely a variation on that, since in a "worker state" the Party functionaries remain the caciques, and the peons...remain the peons.
I doubt you could call the military juntas a communist model.

U.S.: Palestinians need not recognize Israel as Jewish state before talks
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's demand that the Palestinians recognize Israel as the state of the Jewish people as a condition for renewing peace talks is unacceptable to the United States, the State Department said during special envoy George Mitchell's visits over the weekend to Ramallah and Cairo.
The State Department released statements saying that the United States would continue to promote a two-state solution. In Ramallah, Mitchell met with Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas.
Mitchell's talks also seem to indicate that the United States does not accept Netanyahu's position that the renewal of negotiations should be postponed until the Iranian nuclear threat is removed.

This is MacRanger of Macsmind. As you know I was hacked by operatives of the Obama Campaign last month. Well, it happened again. Basically they flooded the site with "sql bombs" according to the host that caused the shared server to stop running. Subsequently be had to disable the site. This had to do with running the "Obama wants to Disarm America" post which more than 2 million people viewed on the site. Just like the goons in Missouri, the Obama truthers can't let the truth be known. I've now moved the blog back to blogspot at macsmind.blogspot.com at least temporally. Because of the hacking job I had to move to another host but unfortunately they haven't got the server up yet to redirect the traffic to blogspot. I would appreciate a mention to your readers. I'm getting a couple of hundred emails about "what happened", but as you can imagine it hard to get the word out by reply.
Thanks,MacRanger

Now, I read a reference to alleged footage of Obama applauding after Ortega's anti-America rant. Has anyone seen this?
O/R, that still photo we saw last night clearly shows Obama applauding, but here is the characterization of it on the Fox News site:
Obama sat mostly unmoved during the speech but at times jotted notes. The speech was part of the opening ceremonies at the fifth Summit of the Americas here.
Later, at a photo opportunity with Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper, Obama held his tongue when asked what he thought about Ortega's speech.
"It was 50 minutes long. That's what I thought."
A senior administration official declined to criticize Ortega, saying the president wanted to focus on the future.
[Link: www.foxnews.com...]
The article says Hillary Clinton declined to comment on the speech, as well.
Make of all that what you will. According to Jake Tapper, Obama did comment on part of the speech (when he joked about not being blamed for the Bay of Pigs incident).

A Shout Out To My Home-dog T. Paine:
THESE are the Baboons that tax men's souls.
Chicago's carbon knee cappers, the Global Warm-mongers, and the Bio-fuel Bolsheviks will, in this crisis, choke your very own Carbon Dioxide breath; but you that prevent it NOW, deserve the thanks of generations of children left financially un-molested.
Wasteful and unnecessary tax tyranny, like hell, is not easily conquered; yet we have this consolation with us, that the harder the conflict, the more glorious the triumph. What we obtain too cheap, we esteem too lightly: it is dearness only that gives every thing its value.
The free market, not fat bureaucrats, knows how to put a proper price upon its goods; and it would be strange indeed if so celestial an article as freedom of motion, energy, the very interaction of matter and climate of the universe should not be as highly rated as un-touchable liberty itself.
Baboons, with a temporary majority to enforce their tax tyranny, have declared that they have a right (not only to tax us) but to tax our children for junk science, short term thinking, and government orchestrated financial malfeasance (by un-elected bureaucrats of the EPA), and if being bound in that manner, is not slavery, then is there not such a thing as slavery upon earth.
Even the expression is impious; for so unlimited a power can belong only to God, Barney Frank's armpit, or Henry Waxman's upper lip:
House Energy and Commerce Committee Chairman Henry Waxman said he won’t compromise on his proposed 20 percent reduction in greenhouse gases over the next decade in the face of criticism from lawmakers who say the economy could suffer.
“I want to keep those caps in place ... It’s what the scientists are telling us we must do” to avoid a global catastrophe, he said.
Hey buddy, Henry "Bite-the-Wax-Tadpole" Man, you and your idiot spend a-thon are the global inflationary catastrophe, the wasted stimulus, and the flaccid global growth, all rolled into one.
With cap and trade, taxing the energy producers and consumers will result in even more off-shoring of U.S. manufacturing. California's unemployment is at least 11%, how high do you need it to go before you get the message?
You do represent Californian tax payers, right?

It was grossly unjust and dishonest. She states her position as if it's an absolute certainty right off the bat, when all of the evidence indicates otherwise. I'm against Obama because he's taking our liberties, and it's not just Obama, it's the democrats and the republicans. My freedom is precious to me, it's life an death, and I'll be damned if some small minded wench is going to get in the way of me fighting for it.
It was cheap shot. Just paint all of them as racists. Sadly her opinions are left to stand. I know my opposition to Obama isn't even based on his race.

I can't listen to him speak. I told my lefty friend that the other day, and she didn't understand. I said, "I literally cannot listen to Obama speak. His voice, his cadence, his everything give me the willies. It's as if my very soul is shuddering." She rolled her eyes and said, "I'm just the opposite. I love to hear him speak. He's so inspiring and spiritual."
Hearing that literally made me ill.
My God. I know it must be true, but cannot understand.

I have seen all of Mikey's fake doc's. Only one I haven't seen is "Sicko". I have also read his books. I have also seen a few doc's that call him out on his strategies. One done by a couple of Canadians that tried pulling the same stunts on him that he used. I have grown very skeptical about a lot I see on film and tv in my years. I admit that the only films I enjoy watching are science fiction, mostly, because they are fantastical to begin with and rarely is there a leftist message. I want my news, and documentaries to report the truth, the facts, and leave there fucking slants at the door where they belong.
I WANT OBJECTIVITY DAMN IT!1!1!1!1!1!

Here's my offer ... Obama, you become a free market capitalist and uphold individual rights, and the Congress does like wise, and I'll support you 100%.
If I am left free, I am fine. If the government is going to tie me down with thousands of tiny threads (regulations and taxes), then there will be a fight. I think that's reasonable.

Thomas Paine's letter to the People of Pennsylvania opens with bardish verse:
To write, or not to write; that is the question--
Whether 'tis nobler in the mind to bear
Th'unlicens'd wrongs of furious party zeal,
Or dip the pen into a nest of hornets,
And still, by teazing, wake them? ...

Aw, shucks. Thank you. It's important to know who to borrow from, you can't go wrong cribbing from the Bard, and if I did dip once into Anthony Burgess' Clockwork Orange, well, they're both English literary greats, so the seams were, uh, seamless.

O/R, I know you're gone, but I want to leave you these two things in case you check back.
First, the DU picture in question. The comment below it claims it was right after Ortega's speech (which is why I had that impression); Obama is clearly applauding:
[Link: www.democraticunderground.com...]
The source of the picture is a photo distribution type site called Day Life.
The other picture, in case you missed it, is also on Day Life (this one is a Reuters photograph):

re: #795 BlueCanuck
Yeah, me too. And one would hope an attainable desire. But there are times when it's almost impossible to get.
I can't begin to display the authors, actors, singers, etc., who I can not watch, or can only watch with jaundiced skeptical eye because they have the audacity to wear their politics on their sleaves to the extent that it becomes part of their portfolio. Laura Ingraham has a book out I keep intending to get a copy of called Shut Up And Sing, about such folks.
Like you, it takes a lot for me to watch something tied into the so-called reality of modern Hollywood. From Wag The Dog forward I tended to shy away from them, their messages keep getting shoved down my throat. Fantasies and Science Fiction, black and white oldies, and westerns are about all I watch, and I almost never watch television.
Why hasn't someone come up with the Conservative Cable Channel yet? I'd get cable just to get that!

Ah Charles! You had so many people believing you were something simple like a one-dimensional polemicist. They stuck a label on you and filed you away. It's weird, but a whole lot of people think that way...(or is it that they use that trick in order NOT to have to think?)
You know why I make LGF my prime choice for taking the pulse of this crazy world? Because Charles, you are reasonable and rational. You think critically, demand evidence, and tell the truth even when it hurts. This blog makes a difference....it's one of the only examples of enlightened and open minded conservatism that I can find anywhere. Just as I ask Mike Yon for the truth of war, I ask LGF for the truth in political discourse. Sadly, I have found that I can't get this kind of frank, bald faced truth anywhere else. Thanks Charles. Oh BTW...thanks for the music too! You turned me onto Joe Bonamassa....I saw him in Alexandria 2 weeks ago and he was amazing...now my girlfriend thinks I have amazing taste in music! Thanks man. Don't fret much about this Charles ,
Andy Warhol only told half the story when it came to fame and the fifteen minutes we each get to enjoy .
He forgot tell people about the downside .....or the 15 minutes of infamy that stands exactly opposite of the fame and also gets it's fifteen minutes.
Charles , it's just your turn
It's your 15 minutes and you will endure it as everyone with full faculties always does .
look at the bright side , it lasts only 15 minutes and then it's all history . lol
There are going to be many things we could disagree upon , but I don't believe you worship Obama any more than I do .
Obama is our president which means it's every Americans duty to respect and support the office ,but certainly I will continue to thank the Gods that I didn't make the huge mistake of voting for him it's as simple as that.
We all have choices to make ....
I feel the time is coming for America to make real choices ,and not a choice between the lesser of two evils every 4 years.
I have to agree with Beck on "just one thing" that this is no longer about the Democrat and Republican party , it's not about an Elephants and the Donkeys , it's about the practices and policies of crooked politicians , the rampant crony-ism in DC , the wasteful spending , and the unpunished ongoing corruption in a huge bureaucratic government .
It's about holding accountable those who walk the halls of justice with impunity and break the laws of the land that are the glue of America itself.
But it's not all the horror show some right wing pundits are calling it ...
The Obama administration may be doing a reasonably good job at getting the entire country out of foreign wars , but in doing so has created a major domestic Class war with it's tax and spend and wrong headed foreign policies.
And we know how wars always end , no one ever turns up as a winner , there is only the vindicator and the vanquished.
and since Obama is always being called the Messiah these days , you all can just call me "John the Baptist" , because I believe a New President will be coming in 2012 who's Shoelaces Obama and Bush will not be even worthy to tie.
and if that not be the case then we are all truly damned as a democratic nation .....

But Bush and his team disagreed according to the principle of "better the devil you know etc.

While I don't entirely agree with Charles' dismissal of the DHS report, I think the response has been utterly out of proportion to all forms of civility and rationality.
My beef with the DHS report isn't the veterans, which I think addresses a real concern, it has more to do with the omission of any type of context for "right-wing organizations". Veterans have been recruited into paramilitary and extreme right/left-wing organizations since about time immemorial, since they happen to be the most effect combat men one can acquire, and sometimes have psychological issues making them particularly susceptible to that sort of propaganda (PTSD, alienation from society, a feeling of betrayal, etc). Pointing this out does not demean veterans, it simply indicates that they are vulnerable to certain pressures that must be monitored.
I don't find myself agreeing with Michelle Malkin on much of anything (too religious, too ridiculously dismissive of state screw ups during wartime, to unabashedly imperialistic at times), but in this case she has a point. Earlier DHS reports on Environmental extremism focused on groups that had histories and agendas of violence. It pointed to a variety of real participants and organizations, separating them from all other environmentalists disinclined to violence. The current DHS reports points to no specific groups, just vague intellectual trends, and creates an unspecified climate of suspicion over anyone who opposes state actions, taxation or supports state's rights. It is far too unspecific to be of any use except in fermenting a sense of suspicion and unease.
Still, the way in which Charles has been treated by many other "Conservatives" is pretty stunning. They are clearly looking more for supporters of whatever random, often intellectually lazy theories that the Republican blogosphere cooks up, than for thinking individuals. They accuse Charles of being dismissive (and he sometimes is), but forget to mention their own extremely patronizing approach to those who don't share their particular brand of anger. This really can't bode well for where conservatism is moving, particularly the consistent confusion on the left and the right between Free Speech (a right guaranteed in a broader social sense, and also in the ability to hold opinions privately), with the natural legal limitation imposed by Private Property. The latter quite naturally limits the publicizing of opinion to those who actually control the medium in which it is expressed.

LOL ... so we'll just 'table' that part of the discussion ... heh ...
Fools/jesters/etc. are important jobs in any socical structure. We're techs, hoping to find that steam valve in order to bleed it before it bursts. Often we can say the unsayable, express the unthinkable, or posit that which needs to be known, and get away with it. We sit in hot water and watch the dials and drop a bomb every so often. It's especially effective against those who have no sense of humor (Islamofascists, for instance).
I think you do well. Like you, I take my training from the masters: Carlin, Pryor, Foxx, Bruce, Python, etc. I can go for the high brow intellectual bits, but a vivid scatological reference will do handsomely when nothing else presents itself. To paraphrase Stephen King: "I'm not proud."
