Apparently porkulus has been creating or "sustaining" jobs at a rate of $92,000 per job.

[Link: money.cnn.com...]

The White House says the figure is in line with its projection that the $787 billion recovery act has created or saved 150,000 jobs in the administration's first 100 days. The 150,000 number, which includes direct and indirect positions, is an estimate based on the amount of stimulus funds spent. Each $92,000 of stimulus funds spent translates into one job, according to the White House formula.

These figures are from people trying to defend porkulus. At that price, I can only assume Obama is personally flying over in an extremely low 747 to confirm each individual job has been saved.

By the way, here's a look at the Phoenix April 15 Tea Party from a somewhat different perspective.

A Petri dish of right wing insanity and goofiness. That was my impression of the April 15 Tea Party that took place on the grounds of the Arizona state capitol and drew thousands in a mass fit of anti-Obama rage. Sure, not everyone there was a complete moon-howling loon. (After all, I was there.) But I would say that a good 70 to 80 percent of those present were about a nut short of a PayDay bar.

Don't get me wrong. I love me a PayDay bar. And such extreme, Glenn Beck-esque paranoia and far-right wackiness makes for perfect blog-fodder. So much so that I can't wait for the next spate of tea parties to occur on July 4 across the country, which organizers hope will be as colossal an explosion of pent-up falangist energy as the April 15 parties were. However, whether FOX News will get behind the national effort to the same degree remains to be seen. Plus, who'd rather protest than barbecue and eat ice cream on Independence Day?

Even if they're able to pull it together locally and get KFYI 550 AM on board, with cornpone hillbilly J.D. Hayworth to broadcast live again, it'd be tough to top April 15. On that date, Phoenix saw an influx of Paleolithic conservatives from deepest, darkest Gilbert and Mesa. Hausfraus and their high-school aged progeny compared Barack Obama to mass murderers such as Adolf Hitler, and to far-left revolutionaries such as V.I. Lenin. Obama's name and face were interchangeable with the hammer and sickle for these Looney Tunes.

No denunciation of our President was too far out at the jingoist jamboree, even though the Prez was elected to his national post by both the popular vote and the Electoral College. It wasn't too long ago in this country when even conservatives demanded a smidgen of respect for the POTUS. Sadly, those days are long behind us. At one point, I listened incredulously as a white, middle-class dad threatened Obama's life in front of his teenage daughter and roly-poly Arizona state Senator Thayer Verschoor. I was the only adult who challenged this imbecile on his threat -- though I have to give points to the crazy man's kid for trying to drag her daddy away as he spat his violence towards the nation's chief executive. In general, such deranged individuals were not confronted at the hootenanny, primarily because they were in the majority.

There were neo-Nazis in attendance, John Birchers, estwhile Ron Paul-ites (or "Ronulans"), middlebrows who'd read too much Ayn Rand, minutemen, nativist members of United for a Sovereign America and other anti-immigrant groups, you name it. One of those minutemen, or perhaps more properly -- minutewomen, reporting for duty was Shawna Forde, founder and leader of the group Minuteman American Defense. On June 12, Forde, 41, and two cohorts were arrested by the Pima County Sheriff's Department for their alleged role in a bloody home-invasion robbery in Arivaca that left a nine-year-old girl and her father dead.

Secret voices of the new Iran

For reasons best not explained, I've come to know a former member of the Revolutionary Guards really well.

He's done some pretty dreadful things in his life, from attacking women in the streets for not wearing the full Islamic gear to fighting alongside Islamic revolutionaries in countries abroad.

And yet now, in the tumult that has gripped Iran since its elections last week, he's had a change of heart.

He's become a backer of Mir Hossein Mousavi, the reformist candidate who alleges fraud in the elections. He's saved up the money to send his son to a private school abroad, and he loathes President Ahmadinejad.

He's not the only one.

Hi Birthday Boy...Congrads on your birthday here...You stud!
kind regards....You get dings all day....Even if you tell me you have Obama's nirth certificate locked up in a safe that you are going to open on live TV.. I'm still updinging you dude

LOL!

Thanks, I had the nirth certifikate but was being chased by a really angry sea lion. I thought he was eating too many salmon at the locks in Seattle and told him that to his face. Well that pissed him off and he took out after me. To escape I threw the nirth certifikat to the ground. When he stopped to eat it I escaped!

Now Geraldo is pissed at me, oh, well, the little things we have to put up with in life.

Yvette Clarke (D, NY) has heard from her 'community-based organisations'. She's 'excited' and optimistic about how the vote is going to turn out. She says we're going to 'turn the page' and 'be a leader around the globe'. And she imagines the bill will 'lower energy costs'.

sadly she could not explain how...our leadership is in utter shambles...I'm convinced legislators are just as stupid as the voters...we may not be able to turn this thing around...AGW has people stunned into stupidity

The Republican amendment is "going to go down" and we're on to final passage. I don't even know what the amendment was about; it's enough to know that it was sponsored by Republicans, apparently, and that was enough.

This bill is a monumental folly. Any business requiring a lot of cheap energy to run will be forced to move operations to regions which aren't nationally suicidal, like Russia, China, and India.

All those server farms and aluminium factories in the northwest can be considered gone, for a start.

re: #330 lobo91

Sounded good, but had no chance in hell of passing.

Rep. Forbes (R-VA): The amendment would strike the whole bill and insert the text of H.R. 513, the "New Manhattan Project for Energy Independence." Establishes a commission to set a plan for making the U.S. 50 percent energy independent in ten years and 100 percent energy independent in 20 years. Authorizes a competition that awards large monetary prizes to the first entity that achieves each of seven different energy goals set out in the amendment. The purposes of reaching the goals of the amendment are to eliminate dependence on foreign oil, and transform the energy sector.

re: #240 Killian Bundy

Why are we going to shoot our economy in the face with Cap and Trade? It won't make a any significant difference since the world's biggest polluters, China and India, aren't part of it and will just use that extra economic advantage against us. Their cows will still be allowed to happily fart away to their heart's content.

/can anyone explain the logic of this to me?

It won't make a difference here either except for the perma-recession created. The Dem coal staters are getting pollution credits up the wazoo as patronage to vote for this stinker. Meanwhile Euros are failing to meet goals for their earlier crap and tax policies and are quickly shifting to nuclear.

TEMPER, TEMPER - Roll Call, 'Obey, Waters Fight on House Floor,' by Steven T. Dennis and Jackie Kucinich:
'House Appropriations Chairman David Obey (D-Wis.) and Rep. Maxine Waters (D-Calif.) engaged in a shoving match on the House floor early Thursday evening that ended with Obey raising his voice and bellowing, 'I'm not going to approve that earmark!' Waters has been seeking $1 million for an employment center in her district that bears her name, but Obey has decided to ban any 'monuments to me' when it comes to funding project requests this year. The confrontation began with the two talking in each other's faces and gesturing animatedly with their hands. Obey then attempted to walk away, but Waters kept following him. Obey then put his hand on Waters arm and shoulder, and Waters became irate. Obey again turned away, dismissing Waters by throwing up his hands, but Waters continued to stalk him, talking to his back and making a shoving motion.

'Waters followed Obey down to the well of the House, and as the confrontation - and shoves - continued, Obey turned and told her: 'You are out of line.' To which Waters retorted: 'You are out of line.' ... Waters then retreated to a group of fellow members of the Congressional Black Caucus, but her conversation could be heard from the press gallery. 'He touched me first, he pushed me first!' she said. She the left the House floor ... 'Waters accosted Chairman Obey on the floor and demanded he fund an earmark for a school district as a conduit for a center named after her,' said Ellis Brachman, spokesman for Obey. 'He refused, and unfortunately she chose to make a scene.' ... Republicans have made the issue [of self-named earmarks] the cornerstone of their call for additional earmark reforms.'

We have elected a radical, hard core leftist government that is against and willfully destroying the principles this country was founded on and which made it the beacon of freedom that it is.
Turn off fucking American Idol and start paying attention to your own goddammed country.

There's another political crisis in Honduras - their President Manuel Zelaya, in the Chavez mould, is trying to take over as El Supremo. Everyone else is against it.

In this case it looks likely that the man will fail, and get booted out. Unfortunately that would be considered a coup and it's possible that Obama himself would support Zelaya's restoration.

My grumpy tuppence: This bill is the inevitable result of the GOP taking no action on addressing the energy problem during all the years when it ruled the roost.

Statesmen, as opposed to self-interested politicians, use a party's period of popularity to force through necessary things that are unpopular. The time for drill-drill and nuke-plant building was at the turn of the century. We got evasion and jokes about Al Gore and heads in the sand. In a very real way, the GOP created this current bill themselves, by default. The laugh is on them, and all of us will pay the consequences of its shortcomings.

Over and out.

I do indeed exhale carbon dioxide. I also excrete great amounts of urine and feces, but our "Socialist" society has very strict rules on when and where I can excrete it and how it must be dealt with afterwards.

The more shit (metaphorically speaking) that is in the air, the more trouble I, as a lifetime asthma sufferer, have breathing. For some reason I take that very personally. "Deadly serious," you might say.

"But, but...carbon dioxide is wonderful!"

And shit helps to grow edible plants! And people have actually had their lives saved by drinking urine!

Oddly, people have never seen this as good reason for me relieving myself in their yard. Go figure.
