Ron Paul Unfurls Kook Flag in House

Politics • Views: 4,139

Rep. Ron Paul (R-TX) really lets his kook flag fly in this clip, accusing the Federal Reserve of helping Saddam Hussein buy weapons, helping fund the Watergate burglary, and planning a secret bailout of … Greece.

Fed Chief Ben Bernanke’s reply (as people laugh in the background): “These specific allegations you’ve made, I think are absolutely bizarre.”

No, because Lincoln essentially set in motion the custom of ignoring the 9th and 10th Amendments, and usurped the power of the state governments into the federal government.

Barney Frank is hilarious at the end of the clip. Frank proposes opening an investigation into the Nixon and Reagan administrations. People are openly laughing. I'm not a big Barney Frank fan but I'll give him points on this one for thinking quick and being funny.

LaHood Seeks Federal Texting While Driving Ban

His goal is to have no distractions whatsoever in cars, even if it means developing a device to shut down phones and BlackBerrys when the engine is started. LaHood also wants police to enforce laws barring hand-held cellphone use and is seeking a federal texting-while-driving ban. "We just have to prevent people from using them, and once we do, we save a lot lives," he says.

I'm sure everyone realizes that in order for there to be a "federal" ban they'll have to pull the same crap they pulled in order to enforce the seat belt and the .08 laws meaning blackmailing the states with their own damn tax dollars. This is the kind of federal overreach that just sets me off.

and

"Even if we could do that, I bet the wingnuts would say that the flight crew that brought them to Hawaii actually flew them to some other chain of islands in the Pacific and that they pre-emptively decorated those islands Hawaiian-style and transported a few authentic Hawaiians there to create the atmosphere."

I guess but his point is valid.

The fed reserve does have some enormous power that's very poorly understood by just about everybody. It is a black box that has little transparency and zero accountability to the american public. It's terrible management in the 2000's brought the world economy to the brink of complete collapse. Monetary policy in the 2000's was totally fucked. Uh - they're audited by an independent auditing firm every single year, and are required to turn the reports over to Congress. They are required to provide detailed reports on their activities to several Congressional committees in both the House and the Senate every quarter and every year, and at other times Congress deems necessary. In fact, Bernanke was testifying at one of these required briefings as recently as today.

If the Fed is "very poorly understood by just about everybody," the only reason for that is that no one's paying them much attention. Anyone interested can glean enough information on the Fed, it's activities and it's internal workings to fill a football stadium with barely any effort.

re: #105 Thanos

Yep

Another question yet to be resolved is whether Mr. Obama is a natural born citizen of the United States, a prerequisite pursuant to the U.S. Constitution. There is evidence Mr. Obama was born in Kenya rather than, as he claims, Hawaii. There is also a registration document for a school in Indonesia where the would-be president studied for four years, on which he was identified not only as a Muslim but as an Indonesian. If correct, the latter could give rise to another potential problem with respect to his eligibility to be president.

Afternoon all! A little OT to be sure, but I'm not particularly comfortable with this proposal by Rep. Brad Miller of North Carolina:

UnHAMPered

Briefly, it is a proposal to bring back FDR's Home Owners’ Loan Corporation (“HOLC”) for the purpose of buying up mortgages in trouble. There is a short description of how that worked.

My issue is with the concept Rep. Miller posits on the second page:

The new HOLC could buy mortgages by eminent domain.

The discussion on how this would work is too long to paraphrase here, but the idea that the Federal Government, via HOLC, would use eminent domain to force mortgage holders to sell the mortgages to HOLC is unsettling to me - to say the least.

Rep. Grayson, critic of Blackwater, was apparently rescued from the craziness in Niger by.... wait for it... Blackwater (or as it's now known - Xe).

But did Blackwater contractors come to his rescue last week, when Grayson was traveling in Niger and a military coup erupted? It certainly seems that way, considering the prepared testimony of Xe executive vice president Fred Roitz, who will testify later today in connection with a Senate Armed Services Committee hearing on Blackwater subsidiary Paravant. In his remarks, he stated: "Xe Services, through its subsidiary Presidential Airways, provides aviation support and medevac services to Defense Department personnel in Africa. Just last week, our personnel evacuated a congressman from Niger during civil unrest."

And that jibes with what CNN reported with Grayson claiming he heard gunfire in his vicinity.

Okay, just can't resist. This arrived in an e-mail:

WHY WOMEN SHOULDN'T TAKE MEN SHOPPING

After I retired, my wife insisted that I accompany her on her trips to
Target. Unfortunately, like most men, I found shopping boring and preferred to get in and get out. Equally unfortunate, my wife is like most women - she loves to browse. Yesterday my dear wife received the following letter from the local Target.

Dear Mrs. Samuel,

Over the past six months, your husband has caused quite a commotion in our store. We cannot tolerate this behavior and have been forced to ban both of you from the store. Our complaints against your husband, Mr. Samuel, are listed below and are documented by our video surveillance cameras.

1. June 15: Took 24 boxes of condoms and randomly put them in other people's carts when they weren't looking.

2. July 2: Set all the alarm clocks in House wares to go off at 5-minute intervals.

3. July 7: He made a trail of tomato juice on the floor leading to the
women's restroom.

4. July 19: Walked up to an employee and told her in an official voice, 'Code 3 in House wares. Get on it right away'. This caused the employee to leave her assigned station and receive a reprimand from her Supervisor that in turn resulted with a union grievance, causing management to lose time and costing the company money.

5. August 4: Went to the Service Desk and tried to put a bag of M&Ms on layaway.

6. August 14: Moved a 'CAUTION - WET FLOOR' sign to a carpeted area.

7. August 15: Set up a tent in the camping department and told the children shoppers he'd invite them in if they would bring pillows and blankets from the bedding department to which twenty children obliged.

8. August 23: When a clerk asked if they could help him he began crying and screamed, 'Why can't you people just leave me alone?' EMT's were called.

9. September 4: Looked right into the security camera and used it as a mirror while he picked his nose.

10. September 10: While handling guns in the hunting department, he asked the clerk where the antidepressants were.

11. October 3: Darted around the store suspiciously while loudly humming the 'Mission Impossible' theme.

12. October 6: In the auto department, he practiced his 'Madonna look' by using different sizes of funnels.

13. October 18: Hid in a clothing rack and when people browsed through, yelled 'PICK ME! PICK ME!'

14. October 21: When an announcement came over the loud speaker, he assumed a fetal position and screamed 'OH NO! IT'S THOSE VOICES AGAIN!'

And last, but not least:

15. October 23: Went into a fitting room, shut the door, waited awhile, then yelled very loudly, 'Hey! There's no toilet paper in here.' One of the clerks passed out.

Mr. Henry D. Good

I want texting to be allowed while you're driving. If you see someone being a jackass, like going 45mph in the left-most lane, you text their license plate number to some state DPS number. If someone gets, say, 20 texts on them in a month, no more driver's license for them.

It's a lot about letting the car absorb the impact, not the driver. This one is amazing.

I use to carpool occasionally with a girl friend back in the 80s. I swear, she would be taking out her hot rollers, applying makeup, drinking coffee and lighting a cigarette while fumbling with the tape cassette deck adjusting the volume to full blast.

By the time I got to work I was a wreck. The one saving grace was that I knew on the ride home we would do happy hour at a bar within walking distance of my apartment. I soon figured out the carpooling just wasn't worth it.

As noted by a link in the spin-offs, there is a brouhaha developing over a student's desire to not recite the Pledge of Allegiance.

Over on one of Murdoch's hate sites, FoxNation, you can probably guess (easily) what the reactions entail.

The ugliness of the ultra-right is really starting to boil over... Full of hatred and fear, I consider the current right wing fomenting to be the ugliest political manifestation in my adult lifetime (I came of age after the 1965 Civil Rights act.)

Agreed. Just a a relevant quote from the article and a supporting link.

The right to sit silently during the Pledge of Allegiance has been held up by the US Supreme Court, and is enshrined in Maryland state law and Mongtomery County Public Schools' own policies, reports the Washington Post.

"No one will be permitted to intentionally embarrass you if you choose not to participate," says the school district's handbook, according to TheGazette.net in Maryland.

A double dip recession?

New home sales fall to a record low

Sales of new homes plunged to a record low in January, government figures showed Wednesday, as the weak economy and a glut of foreclosed homes continue to weigh on the market.

The seasonally adjusted annual rate of new home sales plummeted 11.2% to 309,000 last month, compared with a revised rate of 348,000 in December, the Census Bureau said. That's a decline 6.1% from January 2009.

It was the lowest rate since the government began keeping records in 1963 and comes after declines in November and December.

It's not so much that it's a sin, but that if an animal tries to eat a human (or succeeds in doing so) that they might possibly make a habit of it.

I'm not sure that applies in this case though and I'm all for releasing the killer whale either way.

Fun fact; did you know that killer whales in captivity sing their "family song" throughout their entire lives? Chances are that a killer whale released back to the family pod's area will rejoin the group that they originated from...

There seems to be little doubt now that dolphins are surprisingly intelligent, know who they are as individuals, and engage in cultural traditions that can be passed on to succeeding generations. In short, they are a lot like humans.

So, should they be treated as "persons"? Should they be recognized as fellow travelers on this planet, rather than captive exhibitionists or laboratory specimens?

Personally I'd vote up on Person-hood for Dolphins long before I'd consider a corporation a "person".

Mall security guard accuses shopper of being a paedophile for photographing his own son

According to his blog, Kevin visited the Bridges Shopping Centre in Sunderland with his son to spend the £10 his father gave the boy on a family visit. While there, he seated his son on a coin-operated train ride and snapped a photo of him with his cameraphone. At this point, a Bridges security guard came by and ordered him to stop taking pictures. He said that it was mall policy, and implied that Kevin was taking pictures because he was a paedophile. Kevin told him that this was ridiculous and took his son to find his wife and get out of the mall. He also took a picture of the security guard "so that if I later wanted to make a complaint to the centre I would be able to identify him."

Outside of the mall, Kevin was stopped by a police constable who had received a complaint from mall security that a suspicious potential paedophile had been taking pictures on its premises. The PC threatened to arrest Kevin "for creating a public disturbance" and ordered him to delete the photo of his son. The PC also averred that the Bridges Shopping Centre is a hotbed of paedophile assaults.

People are insane.

Hmmm... tough question. I for one don't think I would go for "personhood" for cetaceans. However, I do question the slaughtering of such animals. When I lived in Japan I would see whale meat for sale at my local store... in with all the fish. (Of course, it should be over in the pork section, but to the Japanese if something has fins it's seafood.)

I'd rather see a "protected animal" status, internationally agreed, that would protect the great apes and the cetaceans.

Maybe he was a Quaker. Maybe he came from an ex-communist country and didn't like the idea of pledging. Maybe he's just someone who knows what free speech means.

I Loves the free speech, and having served this nation of ours - embrace it.

I find ex-service folks truly understand this right and that through the efforts of not just those who have served but the diligent work of others, both in public and in private, this nation and it's citizens enjoy it.
This is not the case in many countries, even ones we might consider like us.

It's a shame really. The Rights we have in this country are at times uniquely American. Faults and all, the American Experience.

For me, saying the Pledge has meaning and I embrace it too. Not with of a sense of being a 'better' American than other citizens, because I choose to and can.

And I prefer America the Beautiful.

If we didn't "display" these animals and view them on school field trips and then again with our own children, we would have little knowledge of them and even less empathy for them.

Ron Paul founded and is now the "honorary chairman" of a something called "Campaign for Liberty." Slog through it's website and you find anti-Semitic crap like "The History of Satanic World Banking" (guess who the bankers are) and "The Bolshevik-Zionist Axis". Like much of Paul's “grassroots” supporters the undercurrent of antisemitism is bubbling just under the surface. I wish the people of Galveston would wake up next election and flush his ass down the toilet of history, Ron Paul is more then just a joke, he is anti-American and a danger to our Democracy.

That video in your link shows Bernanke testifying before Congress. What kind of "accountability" do you have in mind? R. Paul wants to dismantle the Fed. The duties now performed by the Fed would presumably devolve to Congress. And we all know how accountable they are with money.
