Sharron Angle’s Christian Supremacist Views Revealed

Wingnuts • Views: 3,652

Jon Ralston has quotes from an interview Tea Party candidate Sharron Angle did with a Christian radio station, revealing how shockingly extreme her views are: Angle: ‘What’s happening (in America)..is a violation of the 1st Commandment,’ entitlements ‘make government our God.’

She’s not simply a far right ideologue — she’s a fanatical fundamentalist who completely rejects the separation of church and state, and believes that the current federal government is “a violation of the First Commandment.”

“And these programs that you mentioned — that Obama has going with Reid and Pelosi pushing them forward — are all entitlement programs built to make government our God. And that’s really what’s happening in this country is a violation of the First Commandment. We have become a country entrenched in idolatry, and that idolatry is the dependency upon our government. We’re supposed to depend upon God for our protection and our provision and for our daily bread, not for our government.”

Just goes to show again, that Radicals are radicals. Doesn't matter what faith they belong to, they're just as dangerous either way.

That's a fairly extreme take on the conservative principle of limited government. We don't even need the police, fire departments or national defense, God will just take care of us.

"And these programs that you mentioned -- that Obama has going with Reid and Pelosi pushing them forward -- are all entitlement programs built to make government our God. And that’s really what’s happening in this country is a violation of the First Commandment."

Well it's good thing this nation is a secular nation founded on secular principles, and not a Christian nation founded on Biblical principles, otherwise we'd all be in real trouble. Heh.

"We have become a country entrenched in idolatry, and that idolatry is the dependency upon our government."

Shit. And here I thought I was supposed to be making false idols out of Brittney Spears's ta-tas or Paris Hilton's veej. Obviously I am doing this idolatry thing all wrong.

"We’re supposed to depend upon God for our protection and our provision and for our daily bread, not for our government."

Damnit all! I am so confused. I thought I was supposed to depend on the sweat of my rugged, individualist brow for those things, and not any Welfare Deity.

Wait, maybe this great Welfare God is using the U.S. government to fulfill our dependency on Him. I have heard that He is supposed to work in mysterious ways.

Indeed...it's a mighty twisted view of "God will provide". God may provide, but not everything...for everything else, man should use the best, most efficient ways to provide for themselves and their fellow man.

Reports of a severe storm and flooding were predicted, so the town was preparing to evacuate, but Bob was a devout man and believed God would take care of him, so he decided to stay.

Well, the rains started and the sheriff stopped by and offered Bob a lift out of town.

"No thanks, God will take care of me" replied Bob.

The flooding started and Bob watched the waters rising and getting closer, but he was sure he was safe, so when a boat passed by offering to get him out of there, once again Bob said no.

Well, the floods kepts coming and Bob was forced to climb up on the roof. A helicopter came by and offered to throw down a rope to take him to safety.

"No thanks, God will take care of me" replied Bob.

An hour later Bob drowned.

Arriving in Heaven, Bob finally makes his way to God and asks, "I believed in you. Why didn't you save me?"

God looks down at Bob and says, "I sent a truck, a boat and a helicopter. What the hell else did you want, dumbass?"

The Lord helps those who help themselves. In the context of a modern society, that means setting up social services and shared resources. You can argue all day about how extensive these should be, but saying that they're a violation of the First Commandment is just silly-pants talk.

There is some truth in your invictive. I find that most people of the (how do I say this without being crude?) more judgemental Protestant variety would damn themselves to hell in an instant according to the standards they hold up for others. I get accused of being an atheist sometimes when I discuss scriptural arguments with them but I really hate to see the word of God (that was intended for us to improve ourselves) being used as a cudgel to criticize others.

Hi everyone!

Sarah Palin here...

I just want to endorse my great friend Sharron in this election. Yannow, lots of us believin' girls feel like we represent the majority of good old fashioned Americans, and we feel like it's time to go back to God instead of liberal type of laws.

As everyone knows, Sharron and I feel eye to eye on this stuff, and isn't it great stuff? You betcha!

So if you think that the Government, ....or even France... Yea....yea I know.....well, if you think that those things can save our country and our souls, well then I guess you should just do what Sharron and I think and move to France or the Soviet Russia! But if you think that Jesus is your real savior and lawgiver, then you should vote for Sharron! She's the real deal!

You betcha she is!

The problem is they feel they are without sin. Sanctified you know. They must have missed Romans 3:

10 As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one:
11 There is none that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God.
12 They are all gone out of the away, they are together become unprofitable; there is none that doeth good, no, not one.
13 Their throat is an open sepulchre; with their tongues they have used deceit; the poison of asps is under their lips:
14 Whose mouth is full of cursing and bitterness:
15 Their feet are swift to shed blood:
16 Destruction and misery are in their ways:
17 And the way of peace have they not known:
18 There is no fear of God before their eyes.

...it goes on. A pretty apt description of those who would quickly impose their own image of righteousness on others by force and law. That is idolatry in the traditional sense.

Except thats not what she says.

Why not throw down those verses on them? Ask them if Paul was wrong.

On a related topic of nutty political candidates, Ex-Tea Party candidate for NY Gov. Carl Paladino is running new ads in NY promising that on being elected to governor, he'll use eminent domain to seize the building planned to become the Cordoba House community center.

Mind you, this is the same nutter who got kicked out of the Tea Party by Mark Williams (himself a nutter) for sending/receiving racist emails.

At least he's sincere.

Highly enjoyable. My father won't watch it because he feels it's not 'realistic' enough. OK, there were more shots fired in the field in the show's first episode than there have been in the entire history of the NCIS, and they have a Mossad agent on special assigment to them, but on the other hand there is no one in the regular cast I don't want to sleep with, so how bad could it be? Also, it's funny, woman-positive, and the writing is first-rate.

I was talking to my niece, who told me that her baby sister likes forensics shows...the baby is four months, so 'like' is a term that basically means, 'calms down when they are on'.

I suggested that the baby could grow up to be a forensics expert, like Abby.

My niece said that she thought her mother would be ok with the forensics part, but would object to the Goth get-up.

I don't think Angle is a very good candidate as she has no experience and appears to be unaware of the real problems people face. That said, her comments to a Christian radio host on a Christian station aren't radical from a Christian perspective. For example, the idea that people can become so fixated on something that it in effect becomes their god is very basic Christian thought. Usually the false god is money. However, the fact that it can be "government" is clear from the Soviets who in effect promoted "worship" and unquestioning belief in the political leader and the party while outlawing the church and dissent. Her comment that we're "to depend upon God for our protection and our provision" is also clear Christian doctrine. It's not radical Christian thought that our focus is be on God and that he is our ultimate protector and provider. As for being pro-choice, there is nothing radical about that - lot's of people (in fact I think it's a majority) are pro-choice. Where she IS wrong though is there that somehow Reid's positions and policies are violations of the First Amendment. I'm not sure what she is talking about there. That's just bizarre. Also, while I agree that we have to guard against creating a culture of dependency - that's not good for anyone - her tone appears to favor abandonment of ALL government assistance. This has nothing to do with God or Christianity but is simply wrongheaded thinking.

Why not throw down those verses on them? Ask them if Paul was wrong.

I tried that with a fundie preacher once. He kinda lost it and started repeating some nonesense about Mormons not being saved, different Jesus, etc. while a little spittle flew out of the corner of his mouth. When he tried to cast the devil out of me on a public train I decided the dicussion was pretty much over.

Now I just kind of agree to disagree when the neck veins start popping out. There are plenty of people who I can discuss the Gospel (and my understanding of it) with and not risk a stroke.

Needless to say it did not improve my impression of Calvanist Protestantism.

re: #119 MandyManners

Is she doing that though? To me she's commenting that in her view it's dangerous to see government as the be all and end all. Fair enough to have that view. I don't think that she is saying "you must become Christian or if you already are, you should be a better Christian." Rather she is saying that less government is a good thing. Again, not a particularly radical point of view. Maybe I'm missing something though because I truly believe that she is a bit off. To me she lost all credibility when she stated that people who lost their jobs wanted to be on unemployment and weren't trying to get back to work. She obviously has not talked to too many people who have lost their jobs. But again, that has nothing to do with the Church/State thing.

The Lord helps those who help themselves. In the context of a modern society, that means setting up social services and shared resources. You can argue all day about how extensive these should be, but saying that they're a violation of the First Commandment is just silly-pants talk.

Doesn't scripture have a bit about how we're supposed to be deliberately inefficient when harvesting, so there'll be lots of leftovers in the fields for the scroungers to be able to come help themselves without the embarassment of having to ask for permission?

There's a big difference between a mild political Jesus-ey sheen on a mainstream politician doing mainstream things, and real authentic Christian balls-out crazy fanaticism.

But don't let me stop you with your false equivalency on a dead thread lolol
