Uh Oh: Third Ex-Employee Claims She Was Sexually Harassed by Cain

A pattern emerges
Politics • Views: 25,817

Herman Cain’s sexual harassment problem gets even worse.

WASHINGTON — A third former employee says she considered filing a workplace complaint over what she considered aggressive and unwanted behavior by Herman Cain when she worked for the presidential candidate in the 1990s. She says the behavior included a private invitation to his corporate apartment.

She worked for the National Restaurant Association when he was its head. She told The Associated Press that Cain made sexually suggestive remarks or gestures about the same time that two co-workers had settled separate harassment complaints against him.

Oh right, everyone.

This third accuser will be tarred as nothing more than a bimbo eruption, and that she didn't sue or take other action will be used to impugn her credibility. She'll be tarred as someone looking to get her 15 minutes.

Yet, it would be further indication of a pattern of behavior of inappropriate and illegal behavior.

Still spouting the "destroying the powerful black conservative" line. We'll see how long they keep it up. I expect Cain to be in the Bachmann and Santorum league soon.

Oh, the humanity....

A modest proposal to former offenders: "20 years ago, I was a total jerk, and behaved in a way I will never cease to regret. I of course was enjoined from any contact with the woman (women) after her accusation, so let me say now what I couldn't say then, how deeply sorry I am. I will never cease to regret my behavior. However, these incidents made me reconsider how I behave to my colleagues and associates, and I believe the lessons I learned guarantee that I won't do it again, or tolerate others' doing it."

But no, they have to pretend to alabaster innocence. Once a jerk, always a jerk.

Seriously though, we've seen how this kind of thing works with DSK. You can be accused of being a womanizer for years on end, have incidents occur (other accusers back in France for example), and something happen at a hotel room that involved sexual misconduct in NYC but the investigators couldn't prove a crime happened. So DSK skates, and the woman involved is left with few options (diplomatic immunity may thwart civil action).

I haven't noticed any liberals really going after him. Stewart's piece was even kind of a defense of him, in that it stressed these are just allegations, and they mainly benefit Romney.

So where is the big liberal conspiracy? Is it is a conspiracy to bring up something true-- that he got accused of sexual harassment-- and then just let him beclown himself with his reactions to it?

In freeper world, Romney has no chance of beating Obama, or even if he does, he's another big-spending liberal just like Obama, so that's why the libruls are bent on the destruction of a powerful black conservative like Cain.

I'm all to familiar with the way things work. I take small solace in the fact that DSK's political career seems to have been derailed by the arrest and that it, at least for a time, opened up a bit of a dialogue about that sort of behavior, but yes, normally the rich and powerful guy mostly gets away with it and the victims are left slimed and vilified and broken.

It's a big part of why more women don't fucking come forward to start with. Suffered enough already without being ripped apart in the media and such.

I'm pretty sure the Dems would love for Cain to get the nomination so I doubt it's from them. I really don't know how this works but probably the GOP insiders are happy to separate the wheat from the chaff.

Cain Indicates He’s Not Aware That China Has Nuclear Weapons

WOODRUFF: Do you view China as a potential military threat to the United States?

CAIN: I do view China as a potential military threat to the United States.

WOODRUFF: And what could you do as president to head that off?

CAIN: My China strategy is quite simply outgrow China. … [W]e already have superiority in terms of our military capability, and I plan to get away from making cutting our defense a priority and make investing in our military capability a priority, going back to my statement: peace through strength and clarity. So yes they’re a military threat. They’ve indicated that they’re trying to develop nuclear capability and they want to develop more aircraft carriers like we have. So yes, we have to consider them a military threat.

Fears of Fission Rise at Stricken Japanese Plant

TOKYO — Nuclear workers at the crippled Fukushima power plant raced to inject boric acid into the plant’s No. 2 reactor early Wednesday after telltale radioactive elements were detected there, and the plant’s owner admitted for the first time that fuel deep inside three stricken plants was probably continuing to experience bursts of fission.

The unexpected bursts — something akin to flare-ups after a major fire — are extremely unlikely to presage a large-scale nuclear reaction with the resulting large-scale production of heat and radiation. But they threaten to increase the amount of dangerous radioactive elements leaking from the complex and complicate cleanup efforts, raising startling questions about how much remains uncertain at the plant, the site of the world’s worst nuclear disaster since Chernobyl. The Japanese government has said that it aims to bring the reactors to a stable state known as a “cold shutdown” by the end of the year. [...]

David Brooks, still a weapons-grade asshole:

Let’s detach ourselves from the specifics of the Cain case and consider a general question: If you are the victim of sexual harassment, and you agree to remain silent in exchange for a five-figure payoff, should any moral taint attach to you? In the old days, somebody who allowed a predator to continue his hunting in exchange for money would certainly be considered a sinner. I’m reluctant to judge people in these circumstances, but I’m inclined to agree. Am I missing something?

As I recall it, they liked him because he wasn't McCain who was hated by the wingnuts at the time because of the immigration bill he worked on with Kennedy. I recall their support of Mitt being lukewarm at best. In fact, I remember hearing Limbaugh on the best to community college talking about how Thompson was the one and then his spintrip after Thompson proved to be a flop. I remember Coulter saying she liked Duncan Hunter. They didn't like Huckabee because in their minds Huckabee was somehow a liberal.

Not to mention that China's being to look a little...off economically and stability wise.

The Nimitz-class can carry 85-90 Fighters.

The Carriers China is making can only carry 30 at max. They are more similar to the current USS Wasp.

Not only that, but India's Carrier are better in than the one China has. And they are farther along with building new ones, and have a great amount of help from Russia on military matters.

Thing is, with in 10-20 years, China's population will be to decrease. Meanwhile, the United States' population will continue to grow, hitting about 450m by 2050. Immigration could easily jack that number higher.

And again, China is showing some major economic issues now. And, in the past century, China has had an extremely poor history in warfare.

China's a problem, that I don't doubt. However, they are beginning to show weakness, and the PRC government is reviled around the world.

It relied on a higher radiation burst, killing living organisms, but leaving infrastructure largely untouched beyond the detonation point.

The problem is that a neutron warhead has a drastically shorter "shelf life", meaning you have to swap out the materials more often and pay a higher upkeep value over time compared to a standard nuclear warhead.

It is mostly the latter that will be in attendance on Friday. We will see, finally, if there's a depth below which Mitt Romney, friend of thieves, cannot sink.

Could this be contestant number 4?

In a cryptic comment made at National Journal’s Election 2012 Preview event Tuesday, Mark Block, Herman Cain’s campaign manager, made reference to an incident involving Cain and a receptionist for a radio talk show host.

Asked by panel moderator Beth Reinhard whether he could guarantee that there’s not more information forthcoming about his past, Block began his answer with a blanket denial, followed by what seemed to be a description of an unreported recent incident involving Cain.

“Mr. Cain has never sexually harassed anybody. Period. End of story,” he said. “As the hours go by, it’s interesting that we even hear from a radio talk show host of Iowa that a receptionist thought that Mr. Cain’s comments were inappropriate.”

Edited to add - This one looks fairly recent.

Beats the shit out of his current 9inch screen that does 800x600, no way I am handing him this fast Nvidia driven machine back and making him squint at his old monitor. Beats the shit out of his current 9inch screen that does 800x600, no way I am handing him this fast Nvidia driven machine back and making him squint at his old monitor. It just so happens that I have a spare of that exact HPvs17 monitor here that I can deliver to him along with the computer tomorrow. (Unfortunately this one has a tiny flaw in the LCD matrix that you can barely see right up against the right edge of the screen, ex-girlfriend + thrown beer = tiny flaw, long story).

Want to talk about a perfect win-win?

Cool that you got that all square...

I know I'm late to the party, but really want to get my two cents into this.

I don't think the allegations will do a darn thing to Cain's chances in the Republican race for the nomination.

Of the roughly 75% of Republican voters who want anybody but Romney, how many are of the opinion that the whole issue of sexual harassment complaints are PC gone overboard? My guess is a lot. They'll bring in Thomas v Anita (never mind what was found out later). They'll bring in Clinton. They'll bring in any excuse they can because it isn't really an issue for them.

As support, four words. "Republican War on Women." I'm not sure any political body that's fine with the restrictions on women that are part, parcel, plank, and principle will be concerned that some women are coming out to complain that way back in the day Herman Cain told them they were attractive. (Their interpretation, pardon my sarcasm.)

Yeah, but read the comments of the on-air talent from the station. Dude sounds pissed.

Deace, who penned an opinion piece critical of Cain earlier this month, told POLITICO in an email that Cain said "awkward" and "inappropriate" things to the staff at his station.

"Like awkward/inappropriate things he's said to two females on my staff, that the fact the guy's wife is never around...that's almost always a warning flag to me," Deace wrote. "But I chose to leave that stuff out [of the opinion piece] and make it about his record and not the personal stuff."

Pressed about what exactly Cain said to the employees of his show, Deace responded by describing how he himself treats his staff.

"Many a man has been done in by the inability to control his urges,” Deace wrote. “I am no different and just as vulnerable as any other man, which is why I put safeguards around me and hold myself accountable to my wife and other men in my life. Especially since I have very talented employees that happen to be women. I go out of my way to treat them like my sisters. For example, I wouldn't tell them or any other woman I am not married to nor related to how pretty she is."

If that guy is representative of Iowa conservatives (and he wouldn't have his radio gig if he wasn't), then Cain may be in for a beating in the caucuses.

And the plot thickens.

If this stuff is true (and I cannot imagine that this many people would be making stuff up) Cain may be one of those disgustingly sneaky sorts who do sexually suggestive things (in word or deed) in ways that can be plausibly denied. The discomfort exists and is real; but many a woman would be hesitant to file any sort of formal or public complaint lest it become a "he said, she said" sort of thing, in which the "he" is the big cheese and will win the day.

This stuff isn't passing the smell test for me. He's done for. I hope.

Herman Cain accused a former consultant to his unsuccessful 2004 Senate campaign, Curt Anderson, of leaking damaging information about past sexual harassment allegations against Cain.

Anderson, who is now an adviser to Rick Perry, denied the charge in an email to POLITICO...

Mark Block: Rick Perry Needs To Apologize To Herman Cain…And America

The Herman Cain campaign is stepping up its latest line of defense against the sexual harassment story rocking Cain this week.

Rick Perry, Cain chief of staff Mark Block told Fox Wednesday, needs to apologize for the story. To America.

“Rick Perry needs to apologize to Herman Cain and, quite frankly, to America,” Block said.

He was pitching the latest pushback from the Cain campaign on the sexual harassment allegations, which began with “the story is not true” and shifted into “ok it’s pretty true, but it’s not that bad” earlier this week. The new line is that Perry’s campaign is responsible for the story and therefore the story is inherently tainted by dirty politics. Or something like that, anyway. To be honest, it’s hard to see how that’s much of a defense and with the women involved eager to talk about what happened the importance of who’s responsible for the story may not matter much longer.

The 'big cheese' attitude is the alpha and omega of Cain's problems. He appears more and more to be one of those corporate types who thinks he's untouchable, that the rules simply do not apply to him. He's a serial harasser who thinks he can wave the charges away by calling them baseless. He reacted to the initial story very badly, and then compounded the problem by trying to bluff through it.

And it's angered the women (and some men) who have witnessed his behavior first-hand, and that's why more people are speaking out. I think you're right - he's done. Whether he realizes it and withdraws from the race or tries to tough it out and wait for the story to die down doesn't matter.

He went from a long-shot candidate to a no-shot candidate in two days. The phrase 'Pride goeth before a fall' rings true here.

Citing a crisis of national identity and mass confusion among Americans about their nation’s motto, the House on Tuesday voted on a resolution “reaffirming ‘In God We Trust’ as the official motto of the United States.”
...
Representative Eric Cantor of Virginia, the House majority leader, said earlier this year that he would try to prevent votes on measures that were not “substantive and meaningful.” The House did not vote, for example, on an independent resolution, passed in the Senate this year, to honor the troops who carried out the mission that killed Osama bin Laden.

A subject on which I've harped for sometime, let me raise again: worldview collapse. In particular that the US has always been dominated by hyper-religious people whose views on everything from government to economics to personal probity are to be dictated by the Bible.

Remember, Cain is (or was) a part-time preacher. The wingnuts running to his defense are trying to avoid another failure of their worldview.

This "In God We Trust" political showmanship - it's an attempt to cover up the collapse of the worldview.

The worship of George Washington - he was one of the few of the inner circle of the "founding fathers" who was outwardly, obviously religious.

And so on.

How I wish we had a national political figure who would address this topic head on.

Isn't it amazing that these four guys were snatched in the nick of time, for allegedly planning an attack, from a fictional novel, that the writer of which plainly gave notice that it was a fictional story. And they did it just when the GOVERNMENT was about to be hung out to dry for the GOVERNMENT FUNDED delivery of firearms to the cartels in Mexico, after the murder of a federal officer in the desert proctecting you from those very same cartels and criminals. But now... Oh Geezzzz, the government...

Some sort of hippie invasion.
At least 4,000 are at the gates to the Port of Oakland

Protesters have effectively shut down maritime operations at the Port, Director Omar Benjamin said at a media briefing Tuesday, as more than 4,000 people are at the gates.

The crowd stretched several blocks down Middle Harbor Road leading into the port as they begin their attempt to shut down the port for start of the 7 p.m. night shift.

Benjamin pledged that normal port operations would resume, however, and asked protesters to give workers safe passage to their homes.

As they walked the one mile from 14th Street and Broadway, the crowd fanned out for a least a mile, climbed on trucks and chanted. "Whose city is it? Our city!" Police cars are parked on side streets but are keeping a low profile. The march is peaceful so far and no injuries have been reported.

I hope they're friendly.
