Real Headline vs. Fox Headline
First, the actual Washington Post article linked at Fox Nation:
Obama seeks more power to merge agencies, streamline government
President Obama asked Congress on Friday for the power to consolidate parts of the federal government, proposing a first step of merging several trade- and commerce-related agencies under a plan that the White House said could eliminate more than 1,000 jobs and save $3 billion over 10 years.
Obama said he would focus initially on entities that deal with small business, but ultimately would like to get rid of inefficiencies throughout the federal government. He noted to an audience of small business leaders that the bureaucracy included five different entities involved in housing, and more than a dozen agencies that regulate food safety.
Now, the Fox Nation version:
Obama’s Latest Ruse Plays Us For Fools - Fox Nation
President Barack Obama will ask Congress for greater powers on Friday to shrink the federal government and consolidate several trade and commerce related agencies, which would save the government just $3 billion over 10 years, and eliminate 1,000 jobs.
$3 billion over TEN YEARS? The government during the last three years has borrowed on average about $4 billion EACH DAY. In addition, Obama notified Congress on yesterday of his intent to raise the nation’s debt limit by $1.2 trillion to cover increased U.S. spending commitments. The proposed savings, $3 billion, is one-four-hundredth of the debt limit increase he just requested from Congress. It’s also less than half of what Obama tossed away on his supposed green-tech jobs stimulus.
Notice that the rant at Fox Nation is linked to the Washington Post, but bears no resemblance to the Post’s article, and is uncredited. It’s just an anonymously authored, incoherent tirade.
Right wing standards are getting pretty low.
