Okay...so glad I did that. Clinton played the audience like a fish...reeling them in, giving them some slack, but never letting the tension off the line. Beautifully done. And he dissected Romney/Ryan like a coroner on CSI. Romney's campaign's cause of death? Self-inflicted.

Speaking of creationists, there was a new survey released today:
Britons and Canadians More Likely to Endorse Evolution than Americans
KEY FINDINGS
69% of Britons, 61% of Canadians and 30%
of Americans think human beings evolved
from less advanced life forms over
millions of years 51% of Americans, 22% of Canadians and
17% of Britons think God created human
beings in their present form within the last
10,000 years
Not much by way of new revelation here.
There are breakdowns by age and region for all three countries.

One of my early memories and it is I confess vague is of my Dad taking me and my middle brother to Bill's inaugural. Dad was excited. This was the first boomer in the White House and someone who he felt was like him. The concert was a blast and he's still a big Bill fan to this day. Likes Obama a bit too. Bill really was cool tonight. Got me a little nostalgic for the 90's even though I'm drinking Ale right now which wouldn't have been possible back then haha.

The wingnuts are also freaking out about a woman at the DNC who apparently said she would kill Romney if she saw him. Here's a not biased at all article about that:
On Wednesday, Julia Rodriguez, a delegate to the Democratic convention from New York, told The Blaze that she would like to kill Mitt Romney, and she happily made the statement on video.
“Romney will destroy this country completely,” she told The Blaze.
Then she grabbed the microphone and told The Blaze exactly what she would like to do.
“If I see him, I would like to kill him!” she screamed emotionally.
"The exchange caught The Blaze by surprise and was as unscripted as it was bizarre and shocking," Benny Johnson wrote.
Unhinged liberals calling for Romney's death is nothing new.
In August, we reported three times that liberals on Twitter called for Romney's death, and some actually threatened to kill those who vote for him.
In early August, a Facebook page advocating Romney's murder went live, and finally went offline on August 27.
The so-called "mainstream media," perhaps due to its own pro-Obama bias, remained silent on the threats made against Romney and his supporters.
The media was also silent as liberals on Twitter called for Ann Romney's death.
Romney is not the only Republican targeted with death wishes on the social media site.
As we have reported earlier, Sarah Palin, Donald Trump, Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker, and Republican voters in general have been targeted by leftists sending death wishes on Twitter.

yeah, i've heard this "explanation" - usually phrased as "unqualified minorities", with unconscious racism that never troubles them to ask themselves exactly what is the function of the word "minorities" in this supposedly dryly factual economic analysis
the "explanation" is that democrats forced poor helpless banks to write mortgages for negroes.
the fact that the banks had been freed to sell these mortgages off for fun and profit as 'securitized mortgage instruments' is too esoteric for people who think that they understand business but still think that corporations always turn a profit every quarter or go out of business and that they never get millions of dollars in debt

yeah, i've heard this "explanation" - usually phrased as "unqualified minorities", with unconscious racism that never troubles them to ask themselves exactly what is the function of the word "minorities" in this supposedly dryly factual economic analysis
If you ask, the answer from some people I've spoken to is that only unqualified minorities actually got these 'benefits', because there were rules that the banks were racists if they turned them down.
Sometimes this is expressed as indignation on behalf of the poor exploited minorities who the PC liberals got into such financial straits.

One above that's fucking hilarious:
10:34 PM: Still weird to me, as a Clinton diehard from the 90s, how suddenly Bill is not only universally revered among Democrats. But even Republicans fall over themselves apparently to profess his awesomeness, if only to trash his would be successor.
10:37 PM: Still a mystery to me why Republicans spent the last month building Bill up when he’s going to slip them the shiv like no one else.
10:44 PM: “It turns out advancing opportunity and economic empowerment is both morally right and good economics, because of poverty and ignorance restrict growth.”
10:53 PM: Brings it back to the key question: Are you better off?
10:53 PM: Folks with a hard copy of the speech tell me it bears little resemblance to what Clinton’s actually saying.
10:56 PM: “I believe it. With all my heart, I believe it.”
10:57 PM: Hard for me even to fathom how much Clinton is relishing this. Like a caged animal let back out for a brief run in the wild.
11:10 PM: Shorter Bill Clinton: W’w’wait! There’s more!
11:11 PM: Shorter Bill Clinton: Hey, I got a million of these!
11:12 PM: This is excellent news for Mark Halperin!
11:18 PM: This is starting to remind me of when my Daddy taught me to gut and clean fish. I think we’re at scraping off the scales now.
11:22 PM: Okay, I think we’re rising to the finish here. But how can you know?

Yeah I just thought it was a pathetic dig at Obama. Reminds me though, I remember having a conversation when Obama had been president for like six months with an African immigrant cab driver in Ireland no less. He noticed my American accent and asked naturally what I thought of Obama. I told him that I felt I wished people would just give the guy a chance as it had been at the time only six months since he took the oath of office. Guy agreed. Really, sounds tacky but I like talking to my cab drivers. Met another one who was an Irish native who served in the Israeli military. He pointed that out to me when I said I was embarrassed to possibly be related to Lord Haw Haw.

It's part of the moving goalpost of racist standards and the idea of assimilation: you say, "you behave this way, but if you behaved like us we'd respect you more." When someone takes you up on the metric...for examples the Indians who "assimilated" during the Raj...you accuse them of being spineless mimics with no sense of identity, and renege your initial proposition to respect them. And not just social respect them...this little legerdemain act was a common justification for keeping ethnic groups as second-class citizens in colonial nations all over the world (and something similar occurred in the US South).

John Oliver critical of President
Oliver was critical of the Obama campaign's decision to move the president's Thursday night convention speech from the Bank of America Stadium to the Time Warner Arena because of the possibility of bad weather.
Oliver, who is British, compared the event to the Queen's jubilee this summer.
"At the Queen's jubilee, we had a 1,000 person flotilla and it just rained and rained on it," he said.
He said that there was no way the Queen, who is 86 years old, could handle the rain and Americans couldn't.
"There is nothing funnier than a wet queen," Oliver said. "We didn't cancel it. We made her get wet. If the queen can do it, so can [Obama]."

Kevin Drum:
Bill Clinton Wows 'Em in Charlotte
"...It's hard to judge convention speeches when you're a partisan yourself, but it sure seems as if Democrats have the better of things this year on the rhetorical front. Yesterday Michelle Obama gave probably the best speech a First Lady has given since Eleanor Roosevelt, and tonight Bill Clinton gave one of the best speeches he's ever given. That's a pretty high bar.
It went long, of course. It was Bill Clinton, after all. But I'll bet the viewing audience loved it. And he sure seemed to be having a great time. He went after Republicans about as hard as anyone has done yet, but he did it with a smile and a real sense of joy at being in the arena. Like this:
In Tampa — did y’all watch their convention? I did. In Tampa, the Republican argument against the president’s re-election was actually pretty simple — pretty snappy. It went something like this: We left him a total mess. He hasn’t cleaned it up fast enough. So fire him and put us back in.

Bill Clinton Shows How It's Done
"... Bill Clinton spoke for nearly 50 minutes. His speech was dense, didactic and loaded with statistics and details. The paper version handed out to reporters took up four single-spaced pages in a tiny font, and he departed from it frequently. It may have been the most effective speech of either political convention.
The reason wasn't Clinton's oft-hyped "charisma," some kind of intangible political magnetism. Sure, Clinton has that -- a remarkable looseness and intimacy that draws listeners powerfully into his aura. But the strength of his speech came in its efforts to persuade.
Clinton made arguments. He talked through his reasoning. He went point by point through the case he wanted to make. He kept telling the audience he was talking to them and he wanted them to listen. In an age when so many political speeches are pure acts of rhetoric, full of stirring sentiments but utterly devoid of informational value -- when trying to win people over to your point of view is cynically assumed to be futile, so you settle for riling them up instead -- Clinton's felt like a whole different thing. In an era of detergent commercials, he delivered a real political speech."

Charlie Pierce over at Esquire blogged about tonight's epic Clinton win:
There are two things I now know for certain in this world.
Number One: Bill Clinton. At least 300 electoral votes. Against anyone. Tomorrow.
Number Two (and I say this as delicately as I possibly can): I would crawl on my knees naked through four miles of crushed glass just to listen, on a bad radio, to a debate between Bill Clinton and the zombie-eyed granny-starver Paul Ryan.
Number Three: Any reporter who complained about the length of that speech has no soul. There weren't four non-media people in the hall who wouldn't have sat there for another 15 minutes. I even didn't object — much — when Clinton started talking about The Deficit and shilling for the non-existent "Simpson-Bowles Plan." (There was no plan, I tell you!) There was as complete a merger of speaker and audience as you are ever going to see. More than any politician of the age, Bill Clinton inhabits a room and, at the same time, envelops it within himself. He breathes it in like oxygen.
So that was actually three things. Anyway, what struck me most was how much Arkansas we're-heah-to-nominate-a-president-I-got-one-in-mahnd he let into his voice. As Chuck Berry once put it, the man was campaign-shoutin' like a Southern diplomat.

Back when I was young FM stereo was a bit of a novelty, and not much was happening on the FM band. Usually the local university public radio station, or a religious station, was about it.
Anyway, here is an FM stereo broadcast from 1969, when the medium was young. Barbirolli is conducting a couple of little Delius gems:

And now we're going to probably hear about how the Lewinsky scandal was just awful, awful.
AP somehow worked it into what must be the stupidest Fing "fact check" in the history of fact-checking:

CLINTON: "Their campaign pollster said, 'We're not going to let our campaign be dictated by fact checkers.' Now that is true. I couldn't have said it better myself — I just hope you remember that every time you see the ad."
THE FACTS: Clinton, who famously finger-wagged a denial on national television about his sexual relationship with intern Monica Lewinsky and was subsequently impeached in the House on a perjury charge, has had his own uncomfortable moments over telling the truth. "I did not have sexual relations with that woman, Miss Lewinsky," Clinton told television viewers. Later, after he was forced to testify to a grand jury, Clinton said his statements were "legally accurate" but also allowed that he "misled people, including even my wife."

Ryan Says Prayer in Schools Is a State Issue
Of fucking course. "A State Issue" is euphemism for "we can't achieve it on the federal level because of the obvious Constitutional issues, but segregation and abortion laws prove that state can totally get away with peeing on individual rights, if only by spending wodges of cash on defending shitty laws."
Besides being way behind what I had already learned in first grade, one of my lasting memories of going to school in South Carolina in 1973 was prayer in school. Even then I didn't get it and found it to be a ridiculous waste of time. In the morning, we said The Lord's Prayer and at lunch we lined up in the classroom to head to the cafeteria. We had to say grace before we left. Isn't grace supposed to be said over food?!? Ugh. Prayer in school? NO.

Kind of sad to see all the talk this morning is about the Jerusalem language. Particularly when it is entirely lip service. Every President has in the past called for Jerusalem as the capital and said they would move their embassy. Not one, not one Republican or Democrat has done a damn thing to do so. It is pure lip service without any meaning whatsoever. Obama has supported Israel completely but at the same time he has toned down the incendiary rhetoric to appear as a more honest broker in the Middle East. In the end, most Israel supporters role their eyes, they know this issue is a red herring. They see the facts, that there is literally no substantive change in the Israel / US relationship under Obama (other than the fact that he doesnt like Bibi - which in my opinion shows his good judgement). I do think however that this was really poorly handled to have this play out on the convention floor.

I do think however that this was really poorly handled to have this play out on the convention floor.
totally agree....no one gives a crap about the language in the platform. But doing the change last minute with it looking like a cluster fuck was very craven and the visual of the delegates booing (which I believe they were booing the process).....well we are certainly going to be seeing that over and over again in GOP ads for the next two months.

There was a reason why you saw the right wing pundits briefly trying to act like they liked Clinton and "that it's a shame Obama's not more like him." I believe the booing was not about process. But substantive. There are many in the base for which Israel is a very sore subject. They champion underdogs regardless of the context. They view Israel as evil. They view AIPAC as evil. They view what took place as a hijacking of American foreign policy. They are wrong on most of these counts. Arab Americans know the score here. They know that Obama is no different than Bush/Bush/Clinton/Romney with respect to support for Israel. They know Obama's lip service is essentially lip service, but at least he speaks to them not only of them. This was calculated in that the Arab / Muslim vote is not up for grabs in America. A Muslim would have to be out of his / her mind to vote for Romney and his bank of Crusaders. But, the Jewish vote is in play, perhaps more than ever before. Many older Jews have latched onto the Obama hates Israel lie. This was an unforced error only in that it was not handled prior to the convention. The error itself was forced by a movement amongst some on the left to demonize Israel as the world's greatest oppressor.

Turkish woman awaits trial after beheading her alleged rapist
On August 28, at least five months pregnant by a man who she said continued to rape her, Yildirim said she decided she had had enough. Gider was climbing up the back wall of her house. "I knew he was going to rape me again," she said at her preliminary hearing August 30.
She said she grabbed her father-in-law's rifle that was hanging on the wall and she shot him. He tried to draw his gun and she fired again.
"I chased him," she said. "He fell on the ground. He started cussing. I shot his sexual organ this time. He became quiet. I knew he was dead. I then cut his head off."
Witnesses described Yildirim walking into the village square, carrying the man's head by his hair, blood dripping on the ground.
"Don't talk behind my back, don't play with my honor," Yildirim said to the men sitting in the coffee house on the square. "Here is the head of the man who played with my honor."

P.S. Significant job gains for the month of August. The Repubs will have to hope for doom and gloom on the job front some other time. Next month I'm sure.
Well that's from the ADP jobs number, and yes it was very good and better than the forecast.
But the BLS number will come out tomorrow morning and that is the official government numbers. I hope like hell it is close to the ADP number of just over 200K.
But they often are very different.

NEWBERRY SPRINGS, CA (CBSLA.com) - An investigation is underway after a dog brought home a human foot, deputies reported.
The dog's owner called San Bernardino sheriff's detectives to search the desert along the I-40 Freeway and they found more body parts.
Erica said she's used to her dog, "Lucky," bringing home animals but never expected to see a human foot.

Newt was busy tweeting about how the markets (DJIA or S&P) did under Clinton, and then with the GOP majority in the House. Seems that Obama's done pretty well on both accounts - considering that he had to deal with the worst recession in decades.
That the recovery hasn't been as strong or as fast as anyone would like is a testament to just how bad things got and the struggle to still deal with a weak housing market in many parts of the country. Europe's debt crises aren't helping either - external problems aren't helping businesses that rely on exports for job creation either. Places like Spain and Greece are dragging down those around them.

Oh jeez.
Constitution defines, but does not owe, freedom
Article by: ROBERT DELAHUNTY
Updated: September 5, 2012 - 1:59 PM
Whenever the law expands the freedoms of one person or group, it necessarily contracts those of another.
Counterpoint
My colleague Mark Osler argued in these pages ("Those who'd go constitutional would cross a carefully crafted boundary," Aug. 24) that proponents of the marriage amendment err by seeking to "put an express limit to individual freedom" in the state's Constitution. He believes that constitutions have historically expanded individual freedom, and that to contract individual freedom would be a regrettable departure from that practice. He is wrong, both logically and historically.
The argument is flawed logically because whenever the law expands the freedoms of one person or group, it necessarily contracts those of another. When the U.S. Supreme Court raised the bar to success in libel suits brought by public officials, it expanded the freedom of the press but diminished the freedom to serve in public office without fear of being defamed. Freedom to publish narrows the right to safeguard a reputation.
This is also true in other areas. Critics of the U.S. Supreme Court's campaign-finance decisions would be willing to restrict the freedom of corporations to support political candidates, even though corporate political spending does not prevent individuals from contributing as well. The critics argue that corporate political spending corrupts democracy by enabling corporations to exert undue influence over the government's decisions. The freedom they claim has been lost is that of living in a less corrupt political environment...

FYI,if your dog is on Sentinel for heartworm protection, there's a shortage. In my area,it's the large dog dosages that are in short supply. Apperantly Novartis makes Sentinel in factories that make stuff for humans(like Excedrin)and there's been a risk of cross contamination with the Sentinel getting potentially toxic ingredients mixed in. The FDA also has warned the company about various factory violations and several of their plants are closed pending upgrades. Our vet just put Abby on Trifexis for now, until they can get Sentinel again.

What experts? I thought that it was the other way around - Cowboys to win, Philly to lag, and the Giants to struggle.
Well, the first game showed that the Giants secondary has huge holes (same problem, different year) and that not getting enough pressure up the front exposes the secondary. The offense sputtered, but it didn't help that Cruz had a couple go through his hands on at least three passes - ones that would have helped spread the Cowboys secondary and possibly opened up running lanes.
Still, it's only one game - but the Giants have the toughest schedule in the NFL (again). It will be interesting to see how they bounce back after this.

QFT.
Those comments are demonstrably false. Giving blacks the right to vote didn't take away the right to vote.
Reducing the voting age to 18 didn't restrict the rights of those over 18 to vote. It expanded a right and freedom. No ones rights were reduced.
Same thing with the issue of gay marriage - allowing gays to marry doesn't restrict the rights of heterosexual couples to marry. It isn't restricting marriage in some fashion, so his comments are fundamentally flawed.
He somehow believes that rights and freedoms are a limited pie by which giving rights to a larger number of people somehow reduces the rights of those who previously had the right in question. It's mind-numbing in its wrongness.

Gay Marriage Infringes Freedom of Its Opponents, Law Prof Argues in Op-Ed

When the law expands one person’s freedom, it restricts that of another.
That principle applies in the context of gay marriage, according to University of St. Thomas law professor Robert Delahunty. In a commentary in the Minneapolis Star Tribune, Delahunty disagrees with the reasoning of a colleague who opposes a proposed Minnesota constitutional amendment to ban gay marriage...

What a dumbfuck. Doesn't Minnesota already statutorily ban gay marriage? Now some of them want to enshrine it in the Constitution too?
Isn't this that, oh what's it called.... something something government waste regulation something?
Just think. If Romney wins his type will be back at work with the DOJ. Seriously.

Gay Marriage Infringes Freedom of Its Opponents, Law Prof Argues in Op-Ed
Posted Sep 6, 2012 6:00 AM CDT
By Debra Cassens Weiss
From the article:
. “But proponents of the marriage amendment argue that an important freedom is being lost: that of living in a social world in which marriage has a particular meaning and is related in specific ways to natural reproduction and family life,” Delahunty writes.
So if two dudes get married, it hurts the feelings of people against gay marriage and makes them have a sad?

I still have angst about Bud Adams for the chickenshit way he moved the Oilers out of Houston. And don't get me started on the way that Jerry Jones fired Tom Landry. It's not that he fired Landry, it's that he treated a legend like a temp who'd stolen office supplies. Gah.

Former President Bill Clinton’s stem-winding nomination speech was a fact-checker’s nightmare: lots of effort required to run down his many statistics and factual claims, producing little for us to write about.

It's as though the lawyers parsed the heck out of the GOP statement on Jerusalem to within an inch of its life and while the Democrats created bad optics by initially omitting the statement on Jerusalem from their platform, the language they did add back is far stronger than anything on Jerusalem in the GOP adopted platform.

And I'm not sure if it was accidental or on purpose (or accidentally on purpose) that Clinton's speech ran over into the local news hour, meaning that those who hadn't intended to see the former President speak in defense of Obama and the Democrats' agenda would get quite the earful in a powerful defense of the President. Either way, it was a master-stroke. Great speech, and when you've got fact checkers struggling to find ways to include Monica in the fact-check, you know you've gotten over the target.
There wasn't much to quibble with in his facts and statistics or his take on the GOP plans (which is to say that the GOP seeks/sought to block every Obama initiative because their intention was to defeat Obama at all costs - the country's economy be damned).

Sadly, most people don't do much more than read/scan headlines and will refer to fact check type pieces rather than examine what was actually said and verify on their own. Many don't have the time or want to go through the effort of doing the work themselves.
At a minimum, one should look at a couple of different "fact check" sites - to gain a consensus on what was said.
After all, most people just aren't that involved in politics and wont engage in politics until they even bother to show up at the polls (but everyone will bitch and moan that X was or wasn't done by candidate Y when they take office, regardless of whether they vote or not).
/rant off.

re: #644 lawhawk
What's amazing to me is how often the fact-checking sites change their criteria. In one fact-check they'll analyze whether something is literally, narrowly true, in another case they'll broaden it out metaphorically, in others they actually fact-check things that haven't been said or asserted.
Then there's the whole problem of the selection. Someone pointed out the other day that one of the many revisionist historian types we've got running around had an overall 'truthful' rating at Factcheck.org, because they'd chosen to vet only three things he said-- some of the tamest things he'd ever said. So if you looked at Factcheck.org to see how credible this guy was, you'd think he was alright.
It's very much the Wild West of factchecking.

There's a pretty large subset of Christians, the end timers who believe a specific set of events have to happen before the second coming of Christ, the Rapture,Tribulation and the reign of Christ after all that. One of the key events is the return of all Jews to Israel. Since Jews are not going to be Raptured because they haven't accepted Christ as their savior, they will be left behind and subject to slaughter by the Antichrist. I was raised in a church that taught classes about all this, based on Hal Lindsey's Late Great Planet Earth and a couple of other books. It's really a specific support of Jews and Israel as a means to and end here. Without this interpretation of the Book of Revelations,it's very doubtful these folks would give a rats ass about that part of the world or the Jewish people. Seriously, that's the only context these Christians ever care a whit about when speaking of Jews and the middle east.

re: #650 NJDhockeyfan
So they support Israel so they can slaughter Jews? Really?
Yes, some do
Despite Hagee's professed "Christian Zionist" beliefs and public support for the state of Israel, Hagee has made statements that some have interpreted as antisemitic. He has blamed the Holocaust on Jews themselves. He has stated that Hitler's persecution was a "divine plan" to lead Jews to form the modern state of Israel. He calls liberal Jews "poisoned" and "spiritually blind." He also admits that that the preemptive nuclear attack on Iran that he favors will lead to the deaths of most Jews in Israel.[44]
In his book Jerusalem Countdown, Hagee claims that Adolf Hitler was born from a lineage of "accursed, genocidally murderous half-breed Jews."[45] On page 149 in a chapter with the title 'Who Is a Jew?', Hagee writes:
"It was Esau's descendants who produced the half-breed Jews of history who have persecuted and murdered the Jews beyond human comprehension ... Adolf Hitler was a distant descendant of Esau."[45]
Hagee has attributed the persecution of Jews throughout history, implicitly including the Holocaust, to disobedience, thereby attracting accusations of antisemitism:[46]
"It was the disobedience and rebellion of the Jews, God's chosen people, to their covenantal responsibility to serve only the one true God, Jehovah, that gave rise to the opposition and persecution that they experienced beginning in Canaan and continuing to this very day... Their own rebellion had birthed the seed of antisemitism that would arise and bring destruction to them for centuries to come.... it rises from the judgment of God upon his rebellious chosen people."[47]

Ah, Ok. I see the Koskidz are outraged about the AP fact check as well.
FACT CHECK: Clinton claims of compromise a stretch
CLINTON: ‘‘Their campaign pollster said, ‘We’re not going to let our campaign be dictated by fact checkers.’ Now that is true. I couldn’t have said it better myself — I just hope you remember that every time you see the ad.’’
THE FACTS: Clinton, who famously finger-wagged a denial on national television about his sexual relationship with intern Monica Lewinsky and was subsequently impeached in the House on a perjury charge, has had his own uncomfortable moments over telling the truth. ‘‘I did not have sexual relations with that woman, Miss Lewinsky,’’ Clinton told television viewers. Later, after he was forced to testify to a grand jury, Clinton said his statements were ‘‘legally accurate’’ but also allowed that he ‘‘misled people, including even my wife.’’
That's not a fact check. "the facts" they added aren't even related to Clinton's statement. AP gets a big fail for this one.

Believing that Christians support Israel so they can slaughter them is insane. Anyone who thinks that way or any Christians who want to do that needs their head examined.
Well, put it another way. These end-times Christians who believe in the apocalypse believe that is going to happen, that the antichrist will come, that the battle will be fought, and that Jews will be slaughtered and the survivors convert to Christianity. That is the actual belief.
You seem to keep making the mistake of thinking he said that CHristians want to slaughter Jews. That's wrong, and you should really stop saying it-- it's getting creepy that you're accusing a Jew of fomenting that, when what he said was that there are Christians who support Israel out of religious motivation-- not because it's a secular democracy surrounded by tyrants, but because the integrity of Israel is important in their theology.
There are many charasmatic and evangelical Christian leaders and churches who will outright say this, that Israel should be protected due to its biblical importance. The unfortuante final logic of it is that they also believe that, once Israel has reached the appropriate fulfillment of prophecy, that Jews will be slaughtered and convert.
I think that it's not a matter of anyone hoping this will happen, but it is a matter of believing that this will happen, and it's a pretty weird belief.
In addition, the support these people have for Israel is based on irrational religious reasons, and therefore isn't fully trustable; many of the more nutjobby fundamentalist Christian leaders are against Israel giving up any land because they think that will delay the fulfillment of the prophecy.
Given that it involves religious fanaticism, none of this is really going to make any sense, per se.

That's the basis for this statement,IMO yes. Because that's where the idea of certain Christians not caring about the fate of the Jewish people come from. Not every Christian beleives this, obviously,it's the dominionist-end-times-brand of Christianity, and it's alot more prevalent than people realize. It's been around for awhile, but gained popularity in the 70's. Hagee isn't the only one with a megachurch espousing this. There are alot of more mainstream Christian churches that also have that same set of beliefs about the Book of Revelations, they just aren't as vocal as some of the nutbars like Hagee. Mt Paran church of God here in Atlanta has several locations with over a total of 30K members who teach this in their bible studies and sunday schools. It's there, alot more than you think.

[...] Shoebat questioned the Bush-Saudi connection, the fact that U.S. President Bush grounded all flights immediaitely after the attack, yet gave the green light for flying Saudi VIPs out of the USA.
Different theories were discussed as Shoebat spoke about the mysterious deaths of three Saudi princes after an Al Qaeda member who was being interrogated gave up their names. A short time later, all three princes were dead -within one week of each other.
Is there some tacit leniency with the Saudis? Has justice been done for the victims?

Look at the popularity of Timothy LaHaye and the Left Behind series. How many books sold?
The explicit appeal of Left Behind was that it was based on the "literal" Book of Revelations, such that the series included a prophecy timeline of what signs to look for in what order when the Apocalypse starts.

I'm not alleging a pattern of bias. I'm saying they get stuff wrong a lot, and there's no reason to think that because they call themselves factcheckers that they're more trustable or objective than anyone else.
