You know what a knuckle-dragger like Kincannon is missing. He is judging this all on what we have seen on camera. Who the hell knows what led to her supposedly spitting at Ray Rice. To me it looked like things were already heated up as they came around the corner in the very first image we see of them.
One thing for sure…a big powerful man still has no reason to punch a woman, especially someone he claims he loves, spitting or not.
If she hit him and he didn’t like it, he could end the relationship. The fact that he did what he did and all that has happened since then shows it is all about control for him.
47 | Bulworth Sep 9, 2014 1:35:12pm |

This whole thing has kind of reactivated my old fears. I had a nightmare about being hit last night for the first time in a long while. Like I shared yesterday, I still am scared, 27 years later, that my abuser will find me and my family and kill us. He threatened to and I believe him. He has a long record now of hurting women and children, I have no reason to believe he’s changed a bit. His last assault with jail time was 2 yrs ago. Yes, I look him up sometimes, mostly to see if he’s dead yet. Because that’s the only way my fear will ever entirely go away. When he’s dead.
This is what a lot of people don’t understand about this kind of violence. It doesn’t just go away once the relationship is over, you carry that shit with you, forever. It’s someone you loved and trusted and they betrayed you in the worst way possible. It doesn’t just vanish into thin air once you’re safe.

I’m sorry that you went through that.
This is what I meant by “the context does not matter”. Domestic violence is not ok, and defending it in any way, shape or form is a crime against all the victims of abuse. Kragar nailed in #62. Being safe in your own person is a right, and the social structures that support rape culture and abusers undermines that.
(If it isn’t clear, I’m a little mad about all of this right now. The tech and gaming communities have had a string of sexual harassment and sexist hate-speech scandals over the last month. Seeing that this shit is alive and well everywhere is, well, off-pissing.)

Most of this is in my own head, I doubt he has any clue as to where I am (but I know where he lives, still with mommy and daddy, and he’s almost 60- what a prize) or he’d have shown his ugly head by now. This is a metro area of 8 million people, he’d have to work to find me, my last name has changed twice since then and I keep a low profile online. I check to see if anything, even a photo, matches my name online, nothing comes up, I’m careful on purpose. He has no online footprint either, no Facebook, Twitter or anything using his real name.
But that fear never goes away, it’s always there, little things remind you of it now and then. When something like this makes the news it always comes back, especially when the media milks it for all the salacious details. I thought about getting another gun, but I really am not comfortable around firearms anymore, which makes me a bad candidate to have one.

Most of this is in my own head, I doubt he has any clue as to where I am (but I know where he lives, still with mommy and daddy, and he’s almost 60- what a prize) or he’d have shown his ugly head by now. Reminder: during the Mike Tyson/Robin Givens divorce trial, there was testimony that he hit her, and she hit him. The Judge thought that sounded about even, therefore did not weigh in findings of fault.

Good news from Twitter - they’ve suspended another of the stalker accounts who continually harass me and my friends.
I can almost hear the heads exploding.
Only about 29,000 accounts left to go…
(rough guess based on the number of “follower” accounts for the stalkers that have never sent or favorited even a single tweet yet follow all of them along with dozens of others.)

FWIW, my first serious relationship ended when he smacked my head against a brick wall because I was a couple of minutes late getting home.
I got into my car, he jumped in front to stop me from leaving.
I turned the key and hit the gas pedal.
He showed up at my mom’s house a couple days later, crying and saying he was sorry and missed me. She said “you should go out there and make up with him.”
I said…Oh, hella NO!
(the dent in the hood of my car was hardly noticeable.)

The story I read earlier (can’t remember where) said Rice spit in Janay’s face and she slapped him in response at which point the beat down commenced. Some interpreted this as her getting in the first blow, though not at all excusing him. Spitting in someone’s face IS an assault but regardless of how it began and who did/said what…
A person with superior size, strength and training has the absolute responsibility to control himself at all times, regardless of the situation. I don’t care if she was pummeling him with her fists, due to the physical differential, his only appropriate recourse is to defend himself by blocking blows or grabbing her hands/restraining her body in an non-injurious way to prevent further assault. He’s a pro football player, he knows these skills well.
Rice is a bully and violent man. Being demonstrably willing to inflict these injuries on a woman he supposedly loves means no one is safe around the guy. Any defense of his actions is beyond wrong-headed.

The bolded is something that gets drilled into our heads when we start taking martial arts. As children, well, they can probably get away with beating away a bully or something; but as full-grown adult males, we are cautioned that using our martial arts training for anything short of full-fledged defense of our lives will result in our getting arrested. The assault charges may or may not be dropped based on circumstances, but we shouldn’t count on it, and thus should only engage as an absolute last resort.

Oh that’s terrible. If I may humbly suggest it-FWIW IMO even if you were comfortable with a gun or had a concrete safe house or multiple black belts the fear would probably still be there. Perhaps some help on dealing with the emotion specifically would help. Gaining hardware or skills that exceed the threat is just one kind of coping skill. There are others. Good ones.

I want to thank all of you for your compassion and concern here. This is really a wonderful group of people and I wish all of you lived around me so I could see you and hang out with you.
I’m telling my stories here not for me, but to hopefully help people understand that abuse of all kinds, be it in a dating situation, a marriage, parent against child, whatever it is, there is cumulative and sustained damage over time. I survived an abusive parent (and another who stood by and mostly did nothing), sexual abuse by an extended family member as a kid, and domestic violence. I think what I experienced would not have happened if the very first incident hadn’t. I am certain those early experiences set me up for making really bad choices in men from the time I started dating until I met my second, and last husband (if anything happens to this marriage, death or divorce, I will be a crazy old lady who adopts puppies, lol). It’s not like some little spat that you can forget about or goes away once you leave or the other person goes. It marks your soul like nothing else.
As a society we have got to get past this idea that victims are the ones to blame, nothing will change until the majority of people truly internalize that and take it to heart. This goes for all kinds of abuse up to and including human trafficking. This idea that some lives have more value than others, and that those others are not humans, but things is truly at the heart of all this suffering and it won’t change until we as a society figure it out and truly act upon that knowledge. This is why I talk about this stuff here, so hopefully people who don’t understand it can gain some insight.

I have an inkling of the fear. Mrs. J, before she became Mrs. J, dated a guy who then turned into a stalker, and one of the first things we did as a married couple was to attend the hearing to have a restraining order on him. The worry never totally left. I’d go months without thinking about that asshole, then I’d see a car on the street, or there’d be a ‘hangup’ phone message, and he’d be back on my mind.

I check the DTE outage page for Detroit from time to time, hoping to get a clue when MrBWS might be coming home.
Right now, I’m not holding my breath:
As of 4:00 p.m., approximately 35,000 customers remain without electric service due to the Friday evening storm.
75 mph wind gusts downed over 4,000 power lines across our service area.
The vast majority of customers will have their power restored by late tonight, some small clusters of customers and individual service problems may not be restored until Wednesday.
We anticipate that power will be restored to impacted schools by this evening.
We are tracking and preparing for another storm that will likely hit on Wednesday afternoon which can cause additional power outage.

Regarding the Rice video, everyone is so focused on the punch. There are a lot of little details in there that show his total lack of regard for and what he really thinks of his to-be-wife.
When he knocks her out he just stands there like it was so common and only moved when the elevator door opens. Almost like a boxer standing over an opponent he just knocked out.
When he pulls her out of the elevator he literally drops her on her face/head. He also kicks her legs out of his way and drags his foot across her body when he steps over her like she is a sack of trash.
What the hell did he say to the security guard at first. And then there were like four other security or hotel/casino people there. Did Ray BS them all and get away with it because he is Ray Rice NFLer?
Those little things add up in my view and with the punch says to me he treats her with complete contempt, not just punches her. If I saw that video and it was me in it, I’d be thinking real hard about the relationship.

I knew a woman who worked at the shelter. We weren’t allowed to say anything to anyone outside of our youth group because she didn’t want people following her or tracking her down. Her husband was a corrections officer, so at least she had a short line to someone legally allowed to deal with any problems.

I won’t watch it. I like my desk too much.
The only time I ever used my martial arts training was in a gas station/convenience store parking lot a couple of years ago. A guy was slapping the shit out of his (presumed) girlfriend and it was clearly escalating and fast. I called 911 and waited for maybe a minute but I couldn’t stand it. I got out of my car and told him to stop RIGHT NOW in my best mama/authority voice. He stopped and looked at me like I was nuts, told me to fuck off, and went back to pounding on her.
I didn’t want to tell him that the police were on the way since that just might make him drag her into his car and take off which would put her life in more serious danger. I wanted to stall him long enough for the police to arrive so I kept hollering at him to try to distract him. It finally pissed him off enough for it to work so he turned his attention away from beating on her to me. I didn’t do anything but tell him to STOP NOW until he reached for me.
The police arrived to find him in a fetal position on the ground crying and clutching his balls.

Bodies of 5 missing S.C. children found in Alabama
The children’s mother reported the children — aged 1 to 8 — missing Wednesday. According to officers, the mother, who is divorced from the children’s father, said she had been unable to contact her ex-husband.
While Lexington County deputies have not released the name of the father, two sources have told WLTV-TV that the man is Timothy Ray Jones.
The husband is the children’s primary legal guardian. Neighbors told deputies that the children’s father said he was moving with his children from his home near Lexington to another state.
Jones was arrested Saturday in Raleigh, Miss., on charges in unrelated to the disappearance. The children were not with the father when he was taken into custody.

Good. They’re not relevant to this case at all.

‘Pastafarian’ gets OK to wear colander in driver’s license pic
ramen!
“And I asked if I could wear my religious headwear and he said yes, but it just couldn’t have any logos (and) it couldn’t have any type of writing,” Hammond said. “I told him it didn’t, so I went out to my car, got my colander.”
Great for her, but I guess this means that my religious headgear, a Boston Red Sox cap, wouldn’t pass muster in Oklahoma. Oppression!!!

Bad enough beating on an adult spouse but man, what kind of evil does it take to kill your own kids? (post-partum psychopathy aside)

Yelling at hospital TV as House debates YET ANOTHER bill to gut the Clean Water Act. Nice of the nurses to check in on me though. I'm fine.

He is too busy tweeting about how “ginger” is an anagram for “ni**er” to comment on the ruling at this time. He deleted the second tweet, but he wasn’t quick enough…

But does he wear it all the time? Because if he gets stopped for speeding or something the cop might think it’s somebody else if he is not wearing his religious headgear.
Jews, Muslims & Sikhs wear their religious headwear all the time (except in the shower) so if that’s his religious headwear he’s required to wear for his driver’s license photo, he has to wear it ALL THE FUCKING TIME.

There aren’t *too* many times I wish I had twitter; maybe this is one of them.

Scramble the word ginger and what do you get? Yes, you're a racist for saying the g-word.
