Top article on ABC channel 7 in Omaha:

Local Fish Skinning Product Goes Viral Three Times with More Than 30 Million Views (goes to KETV

And that’s why we have a Republican lock in our state. Anyone watching television in this state would be entirely unaware anything unusual is going on.

A sad state of affairs that only the FOX station in Scottsbluff (a city of 14,000) is reporting it anywhere in my state.

I do feel sorry for you folks in large cities in liberal-leaning states, watching your press turn into a propaganda mouthpiece like mine already is.

Keep a diary of the changes, because part of propaganda is to convince you that you’re crazy, not the government.

Because Trump is a petty motherfucker with zero originality:

“MacIsaac did not want to state her political affiliation, but said her bakery began planning how it would donate its proceeds from the Trump inaugural cake to charity. The baker and her staff chose the Human Rights Campaign, a nonprofit group that advocates for equal treatment of the LGBT community — and that has declared Trump “unfit for the presidency.”

“I’m a small-business owner and one of the things I’m very, very proud about is that I don’t discriminate,” MacIsaac said. “I would never turn someone away based on their age, their sex, their sexual orientation, their political views. It’s just not the way we operate.”

MacIsaac said the attention caught her by surprise partly because, per the order, the Trump cake was intended to be more of a prop: All but a three-inch slice at the bottom was inedible.

“It’s just a Stryofoam cake. It’s not for eating,” she said. “I wasn’t expecting it to be seen on TV.”

As is customary with many of her creations, MacIsaac posted a photo of the recreated cake on Instagram the day after the event. By then, Goldman’s tweet — and controversy over the cake — had found its way to her.

“Obviously, my intention was definitely not to upset him in any way,” MacIsaac said of Goldman, whom she does not know personally. “I just wish that it had not been presented the way that it was.”“

Charles, I noticed that Obama’s POTUS account had 15.4m followers, and after conversion to Trump it was down to 13.4, then back up to 14m.

I didn’t copy/screenshot it but I’m pretty sure I saw that.

Keep a diary of the changes, because part of propaganda is to convince you that you’re crazy, not the government.

I would also thrown in this: turn the news channels off. They are not your friend. Exceptions for some shows like Rachel, Joy or Laurence… but I can see them eventually leaving NBC to go digital-only, especially as Andy Lack is determined to make it a Fox clone.

This type of media mind-fuckery has happened before. WLBT in Jackson, Mississippi deliberately hid coverage of the Civil Rights Movement, even breaking into live programs with claims of “signal loss.” They became the first TV station to lose their own license due to deliberate malfeasance, and the racist AF owners immediately were stripped of control.

Also, Taft-owned station WBRC in Birmingham chose to affiliate with ABC exclusively in 1961… because ABC’s news department was much weaker than CBS or NBC, allowing WBRC to manipulate and downplay the civil rights protests.

And WRAL-TV in Raleigh. Jesse Fucking Helms. ‘Nuff said.

They filled (loosely) 6 or 8 blocks. They took the ‘women’s’ billing of the march to make it ‘more inclusive’. They even had an ‘All Lives Matter’ poster carrier. But still, it’s snowing in New Mexico and they got a bunch of retired relocaters to turn out. Oooh, snowing harder now. And they have an hour-long program to watch in the park.

No. But there are some bright spots in there, and occasionally acts of journalism break out even among the most mediocre of them. Trump is so out of the normal operating box that I can easily see a stop to the Press Dinner this year.

Maybe, but I really don’t think they’d do it. Most of the press is already in their “adoring puppydog” mode they were in during Dubya’s reign. They really, really want to have the opportunity to kiss the Supreme Leader’s ring…

Anger and desperation do strange things.

That is why you saw protesters getting in police faces at Ferguson even as laser aimpoints were on them and police fingers were on triggers. If the police had shot somebody on one of those nights, they would have been attacked.

More likely they would have run. It is amazing how people who are not trained to be willing to die for a cause won’t do it.

That is specifically why every military in the world expends so much time and treasure training people for that eventuality.

Old saying: One man with a machine gun can control a hundred without.

The issue being is the hundred could most certainly overwhelm the one. The issue is none of them want to die.

That’s why military training is so intense on following orders, because the standard reaction is “run.”

Think also of police with tear gas against protesters, despite overwhelming numbers of protesters. They could overwhelm police, but do not.

I understand that. It’s also even simpler: Most people don’t want to be inconvenienced or made to get outside their comfort zone. But, if we don’t want Trump to win, we can’t do that any more. If we’re going to stop the thugs who think that Trump’s win means they can terrorize women, minorities, or LGBTs, we can’t do the things we have been doing.

Most people don’t overwhelm the police because the police aren’t the target. And it makes the government look bad when peaceful protesters are targeted with teargas. That’s how Civil Rights groups made progress in the 50s and 60s, and how India won its freedom from England.

We’ve all see A Bug’s Life right?

More likely they would have run. It is amazing how people who are not trained to be willing to die for a cause won’t do it.

That is specifically why every military in the world expends so much time and treasure training people for that eventuality.

It’s also why MLK Jr and others worked so hard with the blacks in the south: dailykos.com:

The question is, how did Dr. King do this—and of course, he didn’t do it alone.

(Of all the other civil rights leaders who helped Dr. King end this reign of terror, I think the most under appreciated is James Farmer, who founded the Congress of Racial Equality and was a leader of nonviolent resistance, and taught the practices of nonviolent resistance.)

So what did they do?

They told us: Whatever you are most afraid of doing vis-a-vis white people, go do it. Go ahead down to city hall and try to register to vote, even if they say no, even if they take your name down.

Go ahead sit at that lunch counter. Sue the local school board. All things that most black people would have said back then, without exaggeration, were stark raving insane and would get you killed.

If we do it all together, we’ll be okay.

They made black people experience the worst of the worst, collectively, that white people could dish out, and discover that it wasn’t that bad. They taught black people how to take a beating—from the southern cops, from police dogs, from fire department hoses. They actually coached young people how to crouch, cover their heads with their arms and take the beating. They taught people how to go to jail, which terrified most decent people.

And you know what? The worst of the worst, wasn’t that bad.

If you have never read that Daily Kos diary, please do. I think it’s one of the most important pieces I’ve ever read.

re: #274 electrotek

Two observations:

1. Note the elison of “Christianity” and secular humanist values that actually gave women franchise, which is a cop-out. Societies that historically used Christianity as their legal basis didn’t do so great with women’s issues like domestic abuse, divorce, et cetera. In the current day, the one nation with a major link with its church—the Russian Orthodox—is currently weighing a decriminalizing domestic violence, has a huge problem with prostitution and trafficking of women.

2. Religion is a red herring. Abuse of women is predicated on a personal or cultural assumption that violence and threats towards women are acceptable…mostly especially within familial and marital bonds, because a man is in charge of his wife and daughters…and more generally that women’s right to autonomy and respect are routed through a designated male. The justification system—be it goddidit or some naturalistic fallacy fuckbakery about alpha males—doesn’t change the central conceit. Since there’s no recognition that a woman deserves these things just because she’s a person just like any other, any declaration of “I wouldn’t do that, I love/treasure my women” contains a bunch of footnotes about “…unless I find fault with them such that they’re not proper women, in which case….”

Hence the epidemic of rape apologism in this country’s social conservative, highly-political churches: there’s always a failure condition the victim ticks off. They were tempting; they didn’t resist enough, etc.

re: #294 Anymouse

Patronising, no. Lying. That’s what they do.

And on Mike Huckabee, how many churches condemned him from their pulpits as a pharisee? I didn’t hear of any doing that. You hear of churches all the time demanding every mosque in the world condemn the actions of one person.

Nah, that’s being patronizing. He is lying to but he’s primarily being patronizing by telling them to go home and that they’ve accomplished nothing.

I’ve taken the test a few times, and I always score really far left on the economic scale (~8) and a bit less on the social scale (6-7). I probably should be a Green Party member, but I happen to be pragmatic…

The interesting thing is mainstream Dem politicians always score in the upper right on that test and I just don’t see how.

The description of the atmosphere at the Women’s Marches I keep hearing is “festive.” When was the last time a conservative protest was described as even “happy” much less festive?

Oh, I don’t believe I’ve ever seen a conservative march where people were festive much less happy.

This is super encouraging. I half expect him to classify the upcoming NASA/NOAA global temperature report for 2016 and issue his own raw assertions in its place.

Apparently it got released three days ago and I missed it.

NASA, NOAA Data Show 2016 Warmest Year on Record Globally

Most of the warming occurred in the past 35 years, with 16 of the 17 warmest years on record occurring since 2001. Not only was 2016 the warmest year on record, but eight of the 12 months that make up the year - from January through September, with the exception of June - were the warmest on record for those respective months. October, November, and December of 2016 were the second warmest of those months on record - in all three cases, behind records set in 2015.

So the last three years 2014, 2015, and 2016 have each in turn been the hottest years on record. Over the next year I’d look for Trump and the GOP to gut climate science funding and either ban or severely hobble the agencies ability to continue studying and issuing these reports. This is a deeply alarming trend that they desperately do not want the public to be aware of.

I am gobsmacked. I’m feeling better now than at any point since the election.

I can’t ever remember anything like these mass protests happening worldwide before. (what am I forgetting?)

Is anyone adding up how large all this really is?

The anti-Iraq-invasion protests were huge, and everywhere. US media downplayed as much as they could, and Bush Admin took no notice at all.

Donald needs to learn that one does not lie and try to fuck over the CIA. The CIA knows more about Donald than Putin, his mother, and 3 wives will ever know. If he keeps this shit up expect to see the last 20 years of his tax returns on the front page of the Washington Post.
