Trump Just Revealed How He’ll Attack Biden

You can’t say you weren’t warned: At the upcoming presidential debate on June 27, Donald Trump plans to highlight a handful of horrific murders—allegedly by undocumented migrants—and blame them on President Biden. We know this because Trump told us so right on his Truth Social feed.”

Oh. I’m so scared. All Biden has to do is say that he had a bipartisan bill ready to pass both the House and Senate that would have taken carfe of things like this and Trump stopped it because he did not want Trump Biden (edit) to get a win. He spoke and his lapdogs answered, even on something they wanted themselves.

Well, yeah. But that’s not going to stop the RW Media from editing anything the President says into a non-response/bad-response/dissemblement. In my thought, their framing of the issue (no matter what anyone says) is likely to be something like:

“Trump points out illegal-immigrant murders: Biden ducks issue”

I’m guessing producers at every RWNM outlet are going to be spending their days before the June 27 debate diligently crafting a thoroughly-detailed (and, of course, thoroughly misleading) “response” to it, which will paint Trump in as good, and Biden in as bad a light as they possibly can.
And unfortunately, they know their audience: logic, facts, statistics, realities, etc. are all virtually irrelevant in a political campaign. They know The Donald is unlikely to come across as a serious candidate, so they will just push the bullshit even harder and louder. And their viewership will eat it with a huge grin and cheer even louder.

Biden could agree that immigration status should be rigorously reviewed, starting with the work papers of Slovenian models.

Toddler trapped in a Tesla after its battery discharged

She had put toddler into car. Closed door and batteryhas died. So could not open door from outside. A toddler is not going to know how to open the door from the inside. Heck, adults would not know how to from the back seat.

The Tesla approved way to deal with this is too open up a hidden door that gets you access to wires that let you open the hood. Then jumper the battery to provide power and open the door.

Like somone has a jumper to use even if one figures out how to open the hidden door. Really stupid.

She had to call the fire dept. who broke the glass to get in. What a stupid design.

***** California PUC officially rejects
AT&T proposal to be relieved of landline responsibilities *****

With their vote today, 4-0 with one recusal, the CPUC today officially rejected AT&T’s proposal to be relieved of carrier of last resort responsibilities in a long running proceeding. While this does not prevent AT&T from modernizing their equipment to other technologies, this is widely viewed as a pushback to AT&T’s efforts to pretty immediately kill landlines in the state and relieve itself of responsibilities to provide universal telephone service in all of their traditional service areas. Public interest in this proceeding was enormous with a massive number of public comments (their site stoppe counting at 5000), overwhelmingly negative to AT&T’s proposal.

The Commission also voted to begin a proceeding to study if and how the last resort responsibilities should be updated to take account of technological changes. So this will definitely be a continuing story.

As you probably know, I was firmly opposed to AT&T’s proposal, and I want to thank everyone who let the CPUC know how they felt about this situation.

I suspect there will come a day when traditional landlines are no more. I know some folks still swear by them but they are getting less and less common as people increasingly use VOIP and cell phones.

Don’t expect the telecoms to stop making requests to kill POTS.

A manager of mine put his daughter in her car seat in the back, shut the door and then realized he had locked his keys in the car. He broke a front door window to get in and then drove over to an auto glass place to get a new window. He did this all in one afternoon, before his wife (a lawyer) found out he’d been a doof and locked their child in their car on a warm Austin afternoon. At least for as long as I worked there, she never found out.

Being a engineer, I’m reluctant to throw shade on other engineers except, like this time, when it’s well deserved. Too many times I’ve see designs proposed with absolutely no consideration for how it would be used in the meat world. The designer comes up with something they think is really cool and stops there. A little thought along with some use cases just might reveal the flaws but, like here, they weren’t done.

The double empathy problem:

The theory of the double empathy problem is a psychological and sociological theory first coined in 2012 by Damian Milton, an autistic autism researcher.[2] This theory proposes that many of the difficulties autistic individuals face when socializing with non-autistic individuals are due, in part, to a lack of mutual understanding between the two groups, meaning that most autistic people struggle to understand and empathize with non-autistic people, whereas most non-autistic people also struggle to understand and empathize with autistic people. This lack of understanding may stem from bidirectional differences in communication style, social-cognitive characteristics, and experiences between autistic and non-autistic individuals, but not necessarily an inherent deficiency. Recent studies have shown that most autistic individuals are able to socialize, communicate effectively,[3] empathize well,[4][5][6][7][8] and display social reciprocity[9] with most other autistic individuals.[2][10] This theory and subsequent findings challenge the commonly held belief that the social skills of autistic individuals are inherently impaired, as well as the theory of “mind-blindness” proposed by prominent autism researcher Simon Baron-Cohen in the mid-1980s, which suggested that empathy and theory of mind are universally impaired in autistic individuals.[11][12][13][14]

The double empathy concept has been consistently supported by a substantial number of studies in recent years and has the potential to radically shift goals of interventions and public psychoeducation regarding autism.[13][15][16][17] In recognition of recent findings that support the theory, Baron-Cohen positively recognized the theory of the double empathy problem in two research articles in 2018[18] and 2022,[19] as well as in multiple podcasts since 2020.[20][21]

1. As mentioned above by others, be a little more specific with your definition.

2. I’ll give you the benefit of the doubt that you were trying to make a joke. Even then, there’s a whiff of “Ha ha, look at creative losers who think they should be paid for their work.” Try harder; joke writing is a creative endeavor and it’s okay to admit you’re not good at it.

As a software engineer, this is what we tried to do when we’d come up with a new product. We’d go and actually talk to the users in the field who would be using it, and try to design what they wanted. “Try” being the operative word; 9 times out of 10, we’d give them what they asked for, and they still wouldn’t like it. But at least it was an effort, as opposed to the Cybertwuck, which is literally the brain-child of a spoiled man-baby who thinks his designs are better than anyone else’s just by virtue of being his.

Part of the problem with the job that I had where we actually sat with users during the design process was that I was being asked to design user interfaces. That is not my strong suit. I am horrible at it. And the bosses wouldn’t pay for a proper graphics designer, choosing instead to utilize the boss’s son, who, to be fair, was intelligent and capable, but also manifestly unhelpful.

My nightmares were designed by Engineers in the Defense Industry. I actually met one of the Designers of said piece of equipment. When I asked him about the locations of said connectors, his response was that they were easily accessible IN THE LAB. He was aghast at the suggestion that he go down to any boat in port at the time and try to access them there.

UIs are the worst when it comes to gaining a consensus between the intended users and the design team. Every one has their own idea of what it should be and, more annoyingly, what it should not be. If you drew a Venn diagram for everybody’s design ideas, you would end up with a disjoint circle for each person in the room. In one meeting, we spent an hour or so discussing whether a button’s text should be Halt or Stop. True story. It almost made me want to change careers and go play piano in a whorehouse.

re: #56 Michele: Out of the closet, Into the fire

My long held theory is that most engineering fuck ups would never happen if Design Engineers had to spend a minimum of one semester in the field working with the Techs who have to maintain/repair the equipment. Like connectors that are easily accessible in the design lab, but become a nightmare to access once the equipment is installed in its intended location.

Like the inline fuel filter on my Nissan I was running down today. I need to move at least 2 hoses and possibly a bracket to get to it. What a crock. Yes it is better than getting to the one in the tank (which I am told is a no maintenance one, just replace the whole fuel pump). All I want to do is change the inline to see if that is the problem I am having with it stalling every once in a while. I already went the fuel line cleaner route which helped a bit.
