Charles,
One quick question. If I was to purchase on of your many albums, which one would you recommend? Ok, one more. I've searched for your music in iTunes and it doesn't return much. Can I get your music off of iTunes or do I have to do it the old fashioned way?
Thanks,

We have raised a few pigs from weaners for the freezer. The first time we got one and called him Tiptoe. The following year we got 2, they were named Tiptoe and, of course, Tulip.

They were sitting on the sidelines biding their time, slowly disseminating conspiracy theories little by little. They have now hooked a big enough percentage of the public on little things. Now they are taking it up a notch.

I've very good friend who is very nervous about BHO and fears what he is going to do. re: #27 Jetpilot1101
The John Birch Society was established in Indianapolis, Indiana on December 9, 1958 by a group of twelve men led by Robert Welch, Jr., a retired candy manufacturer from Belmont, Massachusetts. One founding member was Fred Koch, founder of Koch Industries, one of the largest private corporations in America. Another was Revilo Pendleton Oliver, a University of Illinois professor who later co-founded the "white nationalist" National Alliance.
....
According to Welch, "both the U.S. and Soviet governments are controlled by the same furtive conspiratorial cabal of internationalists, greedy bankers, and corrupt politicians. If left unexposed, the traitors inside the U.S. government would betray the country's sovereignty to the United Nations for a collectivist New World Order, managed by a 'one-world socialist government.'"
....
By the time of Welch's death in 1985, the Birch Society's membership, and influence, had dramatically declined, but the UN's role in the Gulf War and President George H. W. Bush's call for a 'New World Order' appeared to many JBS members to validate their claims about a "One World Government" conspiracy. Growing right-wing populism in the United States helped The John Birch Society position itself for a comeback, and by 1995, its membership had grown to more than 55,000
They are conspiracy nuts and racists.

I think it was closer to "babies wanna hold something soft" than "babies wanna be hugged", but a bunch of little monkeys got surrogate mothers, some of felt and some of wire, that had milk bottles which provided all the nourishment they needed. The ones that got wire surrogates ended up social wrecks. Or something like that.

I know. But according to him, he who buys L&T buys a JBS book. So if I agree with a white supremacist about low taxes, I'm a white supremacist?
Isn't L&T the book about low taxes? Mark Levin isn't a white supremacist. In fact, he's really not welcome in the secret clubhouse.
I get your point though, and it's even more convoluted than you suggest. Does reading a book that other people have read who have also read a book about something mystical written by someone linked to white supremacists back in the sixties make you a white supremacist? Holy smokes. I hope not or I'm probably screwed. I'll have to pay closer attention to those "also purchased" cross-sales attempts on Amazon.

Bruce Bartlett has charged that the FairTax was originally devised by the Church of Scientology in the early 1990s as a way to get rid of the Internal Revenue Service.[8] Representative John Linder told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution that Bartlett confused the FairTax movement with the Scientology-affiliated Citizens for an Alternative Tax System.[9] Leo Linbeck, AFFT Chairman and CEO, stated "As a founder of Americans For Fair Taxation, I can state categorically, however, that Scientology played no role in the founding, research or crafting of the legislation giving expression to the FairTax."[10]

By the way, Blenn Beck wrote the forward to the copy of the 5,000 year leap that is being sold on amazon. The video of the "Burn the Books" Tea Party one lady makes a speech and recommends that everybody should read it. The Birch Society were the initial supporters of the Fair Tax that's so popular with Paulians and Tea Partiers. They also endorsed the idea of abolishing the Federal Reserve that's gaining popularity. If you want to understand why conservatives have gone so crazy with conspiracy theories and bad ideas you need look no further that Ron Paul and the Birch Society. It also explains why Alex Jones and Stormfront are getting involved in the Tea Party scene.
I'm totally on board with marginalizing Birchers and skin-heads and Paulians, but you're sounding like a conspiracy nut yourself, finding connections and alliances everywhere. These people will never be mainstream, and if one of the ideas they support (like the Fair Tax) every becomes mainstream (very unlikely), it doesn't mean the whack-jobs supporting it were responsible or that they've gained political clout or power.

I'm totally on board with marginalizing Birchers and skin-heads and Paulians, but you're sounding like a conspiracy nut yourself, finding connections and alliances everywhere.
Note also that Birchers were anti-communist.
Therefore, anyone who opposes communism is a Bircher nutcase who must be denounced! And, by extension, communism must be a pretty good idea.

Citizens for an Alternative Tax System
Citizens for an Alternative Tax System (CATS) is a national tax reform public interest group in the United States. The group was founded by Scientologist and IRS foe, David Miscavige.[1]The organization states that they were established to solve "very serious problems caused by the United States' unfair and destructive income tax system", which they determined to be abolishing the federal income tax and replace it with a national retail sales tax. CATS was incorporated in October of 1990 and expanded from nine local offices to over 300 chapters across the country. In the first years, the CATS national office conducted over 3,500 radio shows and distributed thousands of flyers through its growing grassroots network

Ah, it's "knowledge"! And to quote the motto of Faber College, "Knowledge is Good".
Of course, your own exhaustive research methods (google search) reveal that Bartlett's story has been at least denied, if not debunked.
Oh, and I thought the Birchers were the first ones to come up with the idea... what happened to that claim?

NO,, they (scientologists) came up with a Citizens for an Alternative Tax System[Link: www.google.com...] which differs from The Fair Tax in many ways . An Atlanta Journal Constitution writer linked the two in an article and the Fair Tax people have made numerous statements distancing themselves from the other org

re: #215 buzzsawmonkey
Lobbyists will never become obsolete. There are many things other than tax policy for which groups, entities and people lobby; new regulations, additional laws, removal or adjustment of existing regulations or laws, changes in general policy, etc.
Lobbyists serve the same function as the "flappers" served on the Flying Island of Laputa in Gulliver's Travels. The inhabitants of that island, philosophers all, were lost in their contemplations of the mysteries of the universe. If you wanted to talk to one, you had to get his attention--and so the "flapper," a servant carrying an inflated pig bladder, would "flap" him on the head to wake him from his reveries.
Legislators and their staffers have many, many claims on their time and attention. Lobbyists--"flappers"--grab their attention and focus it on a particular issue.
You are correct. Taxes manipulation only one of many ways government has to reward/punish.

Early today I reported that LGFer and my friend Dublin(CA)Dude had passed away last week from a massive heart attack while he was undergoing cancer surgery, but I didn't have any more details. He was 58 years old, had an older sister and younger brother and a loving first cousin who took care of him throughout his battles with three different cancers. There will be no formal service as his ashes are being spread somewhere in California but his family has requested that if any of you are so inclined, to please make a contribution in his nic-name to Cancer Research, at the American Cancer Society.
Thank you all very much.

Hey Y'all - just a drive by post here.
What a shame. Very sorry to hear that. He was a very good, rational commenter here and he'll be missed. I'll make a donation in his name.

Great piece on the crazies on the Right and on Charles over at Harry's Place:
The Civil War On the U.S. Right
With the defeat of Bush, the U.S. Right wing blogosphere has gone nuts, and have started to slaughter each other. It is a tragic sight, and not one in which we should take any pleasure.
None of this is surprising. Political parties are coalitions of interests. In the US Right, there are religious conservatives and humane fiscal conservatives and economic liberals. Bush’s Presidency bound them together. Now that Obama is president, those bonds are dissolving. What this has meant, is that the more eccentric elements of the conservative Right, free of any restraining propriety, have launched themselves into the void of silliness.
It isn’t confined to the blogosphere. I get the impression that this is what is happening generally, on the U.S. Right.
The lunacy is heterogenous. Some champion the theory that President Obama was born outside the U.S., which would - if true - make him ineligible to serve as President. Others are pushing the so-called ‘intelligent design’ fraud....
Charles Johnson, who runs the website Little Green Footballs, has become a particular target for that faction of the U.S. Right. He has become increasingly outspoken against those who push ‘birth certificate‘ nonsense, or who pander to ‘intelligent design‘ nuts, and most of those who - like Rush Limbaugh - want Obama to fail:

I think my head would explode.
It's proposed at the Federal level only, where it would replace the income tax with a Federal sales tax; some variants have exemptions for food and other items.
But therein lies the rub. One problem, as you point out, is the array of taxes it doesn't eliminate - Federal inheritance taxes; capital gains taxes; Social Security taxes and others would all remain intact. So would all state and local taxes, but that's to be expected. Second, as my accountant has pointed out, Congress would be only to happy to pass a Federal sales tax - but it wouldn't replace anything. It would be added on top of existing taxes, as surely as a gaggle of Congressmen will come arunnin' if you yell "Sooooey!"
It sounds appealing on paper, but the difference between the Fair Tax and income tax would be indiscernible in real life.

I'm not talking about misinformation. Morrisey gave a lot of time to this, detailed accounts as the proposed bill worked it's way through Congress (to ultimate defeat) and other sources covering the legislation jived with Morrisey exactly when it came to the details. And there wasn't any mention of replacing all Federal taxes with this.
I suspect that if this is the same group, they've modified their proposal significantly over the last few years.

NRO: You would amend the constitution to insert term limits. What do you say to a) people who say that's too radical b) folks who argue "don't bother" because amendments are too hard to get through.Levin: Actually, I would like the Constitution to be amended in two ways: 1. term limits for justices and judges; and 2. authorizing Congress to veto Supreme Court decisions with a super-majority (two-thirds) vote of both houses. I actually believe the second systemic change is more important than the first.
I support term limits for two basic reasons. First, if justices and judges are going to behave like politicians, legislating at will, they should not serve for life. Moreover, especially as applies to Supreme Court justices, too many have served well beyond their ability to perform their duties.
As for empowering Congress to veto Court decisions by a super-majority vote, the rationale is not at all radical when put in historical context. The framers authorized a super-majority of Congress to override a presidential veto. They were concerned about the concentration of too much power in the presidency. They viewed Congress as the branch of government closest to the people. The framers never imagined a judiciary as powerful as today's courts, supplanting the constitutional authority of the other branches. Also, a super-majority vote by Congress creates a high bar, making the congressional veto of Supreme Court decisions a potent but rarely used constitutional weapon. Still, it gives ultimate authority to Congress.
I'm not fond of judicial activism, but I'm even less fond of congress. Case in point--"Cold Cash Jefferson" and Hastert and other GOP leaders falling all over themselves to express outrage that his offices could be searched by the FBI.

David Axlerod - supports a di*k (Obama), at least based on his comments that the Tea Parties ire is misdirected. (Now if Obammy passes the Fair Tax, then I'll give him some credit, but until then, he is just another parasite Demonrat, sucking his living off of his betters that know how to work and actually produce something. I'm really growing to despise the denizens on the Left and wish them increasing ill and mis-fortune. Please pray for me...)

re: #345 pingjockey
Y'all want to know what sucks? Telling your 9 year old NOT to dig in the spot where the above ground pool goes, and of course he did it any way. So now we are re-excavating an 18 foot diameter hole to reset said pool in!
Hey ping.
Good news...you have an 18' pool. ;)

Hey Y'all - just a drive by post here.
Good evening, RW.
I'm sorry to hear about Dublin(CA)Dude...RIP and bless his family.
