Registration is open for a limited time.

Read all the rules before you register, and commit them to memory. The short version:

  • Don’t register with a proxy.
  • Don’t register with a throwaway email address.
  • Don’t register more than one account at a time.
  • Don’t be a jerk.
  • Don’t be a troll.
  • Don’t be a sock puppet. Stinky hates sock puppets.
  • Do play nice.

And then everything will be groovy.

UPDATE at 5/12/09 11:02:42 am:

Now closed, with 92 hatchlings and six attempted sock puppets.

Charles, how long did you leave the door open last week? Seems like at one point it was open for 16 hours or more? And how many hatchlings did you get that time?

If I ever complete and publish something like the science fiction story I'm working on, I'll want a sock puppet to discuss it without giving away my real name, but since something keeps coming up and taking up most of the time I'd spend writing, that isn't in the immediate future.

Troll bait...

Disgraced Former U.N. Official Welcomed at High-Level U.N. Conference

An internal U.N. investigation found that he committed "gross negligence" in handling a $2.8 million trust fund donated by the Greek government, and suggested that Bertucci might be held "personally accountable and financially liable" for the misspent funds, many of which went for purposes unrelated to the intended project.

Now, it seems, the U.N. apparently doesn't think so either. Bertucci has been welcomed back by the world organization as an invited top-level expert at a high-profile conference in Seoul, South Korea, on "Building Our Humanitarian Planet."

All for the good of mankind...thanks UN.

Really, it's good for you, you know that. You know some of the things I've done over the last three years. I'll tell you, at 56, I feel better than I ever did, in general.

Yesterday evening, took about a two mile hike with my girlfriend along the South Platte Canyon Denver, SOuth Fork and Pacific narrow gauge right of way (railroad gone in the late 1800's).

We found a railroad tie base plate (iron plate which helps secure rail to wooden tie), a badly eroded rail spike, part of a Heminray telegraph pole insulator (circa 1900-1920), a core from a dynamite drill hole (from blasting rocks away from the rail bed) and some misc. cool rocks and other pieces of metal.

I would have never been able to take that walk three years ago.

FDR's actuaries calculated that the average American lived to be 48, which is why the retirement age for purposes of receiving Social Security retirement payments was set at 65. With the government in control of the health care system, they can reduce life expectancy sufficient to make the Social Security system solvent again!

Obama is a genius!

Yes, he's Cuban-American. From Wikipedia:

Many[who?] herald a potential Rubio v. Crist primary as an ideological battle for the soul of the Republican Party, with Rubio as the conservative and Charlie Crist (who endorsed the Obama stimulus plan, backed by only three Republicans in Congress, one of whom, Arlen Specter, has now switched parties)[3] as the more liberal candidate. Although it could be a hard race for the lesser known Rubio, he may garner some support from popular former Florida Governor Jeb Bush (whom he worked with in the capital),[4] former presidential candidate and Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee (whose campaign he worked on),[5] and former US House Speaker Newt Gingrich,[6] which might make him a serious contender.

I tried to find the op ed he wrote on line this morning and gave up, it was something on "torture" I gathered. Then he tried to imply that since everybody else in the Bush administration has be silent on the issue that everybody but Cheney must think it really was torture. Neo-Nazis=Dickheads

I never thought that fascism would make such a comeback in Europe. I can only think it has to do with the pendulum swinging. The left has been over the top in its liberalism for the past 30 years, I think the trigger was the huge influx of immigrants and the lack of their assimilation combined with government accommodation. It's bringing the crazies out of the woodwork and the problem is that no European government is particularly strong at the moment to clamp down on it. They are week and their extremes are seeing their own muscle flexing going unchallenged.

The Left loves to scream about the inadequacies of the VA or Military medical care systems, but want to push on anyone even more government run health care.

The people who work in the VA and Military care systems as a whole are some of the best folks giving 110% for vets, active duties, and their families. It is the bureaucracy that is the blockage, and with O-Care the bureaucrats will be in charge of us all.

Yes! Yes! My experience with the VA exactly. The people who actually supply the medical care are great. The petty bureaucrats seem to delight in making everything complicated.

/Anybody who thinks the government should run health care should be required to spent a couple years getting their health care from the VA.

Uh-oh. It looks like hunky Marco Rubio, as speaker of the Florida House of Representatives, supports so-called "academic freedom legislation" that would protect Florida teachers who want to teach creationism.

And he's sharpened up a little wedge that he's trying to use to help jam this legislation through:

The “crux” of the disagreement, according Rubio, is “whether what a parent teaches their children at home should be mocked and derided and undone at the public school level. It goes to the fundamental core of who is ultimately, primarily responsible for the upbringing of children. Is it your public education system or is it your parents?

Rubio added, “And for me, personally, I don’t want a school system that teaches kids that what they’re learning at home is wrong.”

Rubio, a Cuban-American, made a comparison to the strategy employed by the Communist Party in Cuba where schools encouraged children to turn in parents who criticized Fidel Castro.

“Of course, I’m not equating the evolution people with Fidel Castro,” he quickly added, while noting that undermining the family and the church were key means the Communist Party used to gain control in Cuba.

Great. Now "Darwinism" created not only Hitler, but Fidel Castro too.

So much for Mr. Rubio.

The VA has state-of-the-art health care information technology. Remember that "reducing health care costs" is the primary policy goal of those advocating for health care rationing. Those rationed will include the VA.

I will give props to the VA's IT, although I wonder if their medical records (MY medical records) have any security, since everybody in the systems appears to be able to access all my data without knowing my name and the last 4 digits of my SSN. Walter, I have a conservative acquaintance who is obsessed with Maureen Dowd. In short, he wants to get down with her. He's a sick, sick puppy.

Yes! I still fight it everyday, but 43 days, 8 hrs, and 19 minutes free! Not that I keep up with the time though!

Good for you. I smoked for a few years. I just gave them up one morning. I woke up and did the usual thing...headed straight for the patio to light up. I took a drag and it burnt so bad.....I just said, "enough"....I tossed them all away. I could not have done it without the help of my wife though. She never smoked and gave me loads of grief while I did. But, when she saw I was giving it an honest effort, the support and encouragement she gave helped me do it. Find someone to quit with.

That is what my dog has, but he is doing ok still. He is just slower. He does not fetch the frisbee or the ball anymore though. You toss it and he just looks at me and basically says, "You're kidding, right?"

Mine is slower, too. Until he sees a rabbit or squirrel in the back yard, then he's out the door like a shot! We now live in a one-story home and he's ecstatic. And we lift him onto the bed by hoisting him up on his doggie bed - takes 2 of us, he's a big boy.

My impression is that you can have a sock, so long as it is meant solely for comedy, or as an alternate if your original gets hung up on the computer a lot. We had one commentor who did just that due to her computer problems. One account would hang up and get stuck, so she'd have to go to the other one. It was an easily discernable sock. Woman Accused in Porn Star Prostitution Ring

SANTA ANA, California — A woman is accused in California of making more than $8.5 million from an online prostitution business that claimed to employ porn stars and fashion models.

Michelle Braun appeared Monday in federal court in Orange County and was allowed to remain free pending her next pretrial hearing next month.

The Boca Raton, Florida, woman is accused of charging clients $50,000 or more to spend the night with adult film stars, models, and actresses, The Orange County Register reported. Prosecutors say she used her travel business to launder the money.

Thing is, make sure it's nasal or "Scotch" snuff; don't get the stuff meant to be put in the mouth.

Just the tiniest bit sniffed (like a flower, slowly but deeply) into each nostril, and you get your nic punch. Have a kleenex handy for a sneeze or two (unavoidable at first). Blow your nose about five or 10 minutes later, and you're done.

There are flavored nasal snuffs out there, but that defeats the purpose; you want something that'll work, but exacts a price. That's scotch nasal snuff.

And it's cheap as dirt. You can get 5 or so ounces (enough to last anyone several months) for about 20 bucks.

Wellbutrin, which is what I used when I stopped smoking, didn't decrease my libido. It sent it on a total sabbatical. Took several months for it to come back after stopping the pills.

Gotta "love" these anti-depressants that rob one's libido. Who can be happy about being chemically impotent?

re: #529 MrSilverDragon

My fiancee talked about me possibly taking Wellbutrin in order to stop smoking. I pointed out that it also had the side effect of a decreased libido. She dropped it at that point.

That has not been my experience. I've been on Prozac and Paxil in the past, which did cause decreased libido. I complained to my doctor, who suggested Wellbutrin. Unlike the first two, Wellbutrin is not an SSRI. Let's just say things have been much more ... active chez doppelganglander.

My only warning would be that it's very difficult to wean off it successfully. That hasn't been an issue for me, since I'm probably a lifer, but if you're using it to quit smoking, talk to your doctor about using the smallest dose for the shortest amount of time.

On that subject, and speaking of meds, get you doctor to proscribe testosterone gel if you are a man over 50 or so. You testosterone levels start to drop in your 20's, and the gel makes your body think you're younger then you are. Not just libido, but muscle mass, and energy.
I talked my doctor into a prescription 10 years ago, and now he's using it too. Your doctor will decide if if safe for you, because it is similar to a steroid in some ways.

PRUDEN: Even a messiah loses his training wheels

But Mr. Obama has already been president for more than a hundred days, and passing the hundred-day mark, irrelevant milestone as it may be, was cited as dead-solid proof that the president is the messiah he told everyone he was. Reality, however, has begun to cast a shadow over the White House, still as faint as the bright golden haze on the meadow but visible enough. "Blaming George" still makes a tingle run up the legs of all the hymn-singing true believers, but outside the embrace of the cult, that tingle is beginning to sting instead. This is Mr. Obama's government now.

Reality Check 101.

Quite frankly... neither. More of a football man, Green Bay Packers all the way. However, I have been to both Citi Field and New Yankees Stadium. For the life of me I can't figure out where the extra $650 million dollars went in Yankee Stadium. Citi field had an attendant at the hot dog stand who topped my $6.50 dog for me. Yankee Stadium had a $15 Lobel's steak sandwich that, it pains me to say, was actually worth every penny. Gotta give this one to the Yanks.

Yet the FMSM and Obots will shove this in our faces 24/7:

Obama Approval Picks Up in May
Still, only 25% say they would definitely vote to re-elect him in 2012

Obama plans Las Vegas getaway to help Harry Reid get big money

Just how much hypocrisy does the man have to show before most people get a clue?

My husband used Chantix to quit a 50 year-old smoking habit. He does suffer from PTSD but he had been warned by a co-worker who has used it that it would give you pretty screwy dreams.

That was the only side effect that he noticed. He had tried many times over the years to quit but this was the only cure for him.

I wonder what the average hatchling's time spent viewing the site/comments is before they get to register. I know I spent a year coming here daily before I got lucky.

And yet I choose to continually lurk.

An interesting question. In my case, it was just under 1 week. My waiting time was consideraby shortened after I figured out that "occasional weekend afternoons" actually meant "weekdays including mornings".

Greetings all - I promise to play nice
