Christmas gift suggestions:

To your enemy, forgiveness.
To an opponent, tolerance.
To a friend, your heart.
To a customer, service.
To all, charity.
To every child, a good example.
To yourself, respect.

"But even here, two men who watched the light had made a fire, that through the loophole in the thick stone wall shed out a ray of brightness on the awful sea. Joining their horny hands over the rough table at which they sat, they wished each other Merry Christmas in their can of grog..."

My all-time favorite passage from the Dickens classic. Scrooge and the Spirit are flying high above rough seas and look inside a solitary lighthouse.

Laugh ours is similar with the following substitutions:

Chicken Soup = Gumbo
Challah = Garlic Bread
Cholent (which I had to google) = Baked Ziti
Gefilte fish = Swedish Fish (in the stockings)

Virginia, your little friends are wrong. They have been affected by the skepticism of a sceptical age. They do not believe except they see. They think that nothing can be which is not comprehensible by their little minds. All minds, Virginia, whether they be men's or children's, are little. In this great universe of ours, man is a mere insect, an ant, in his intellect as compared with the boundless world about him, as measured by the intelligence capable of grasping the whole of truth and knowledge.

Yes, Virginia, there is a Santa Claus.

He exists as certainly as love and generosity and devotion exist, and you know that they abound and give to your life its highest beauty and joy. Alas! how dreary would be the world if there were no Santa Claus! It would be as dreary as if there were no Virginias. There would be no childlike faith then, no poetry, no romance to make tolerable this existence. We should have no enjoyment, except in sense and sight. The external light with which childhood fills the world would be extinguished.

Not believe in Santa Claus! You might as well not believe in fairies. You might get your papa to hire men to watch in all the chimneys on Christmas eve to catch Santa Claus, but even if you did not see Santa Claus coming down, what would that prove? Nobody sees Santa Claus, but that is no sign that there is no Santa Claus. The most real things in the world are those that neither children nor men can see. Did you ever see fairies dancing on the lawn? Of course not, but that's no proof that they are not there. Nobody can conceive or imagine all the wonders there are unseen and unseeable in the world.

You tear apart the baby's rattle and see what makes the noise inside, but there is a veil covering the unseen world which not the strongest man, nor even the united strength of all the strongest men that ever lived could tear apart. Only faith, poetry, love, romance, can push aside that curtain and view and picture the supernal beauty and glory beyond. Is it all real? Ah, Virginia, in all this world there is nothing else real and abiding.

No Santa Claus?Thank God he lives and lives forever. A thousand years from now, Virginia, nay 10 times 10,000 years from now, he will continue to make glad the heart of childhood.

Crazy Pamela says Obama's tree is festooned with evil.

I could not help but smile to myself when I got a gander at Obama's vile "Christmas" ornaments, defiled with images of history's most evil men, like the murderer of untold millions and cultural executioner Mao Tse Tung.

And it was hard not to laugh when Michelle explained the decadent ornaments away. She and O were unaware of the images, as the ornaments were decorated and sent to them from her various groups (clearly those of a seditious and conspiratorial nature). Do you notice how there were no accidents or mistakes like an image of Ronald Reagan festooned to the tree? How about George Washington, or General George Patton or any of the really exceptional human beings who walked among us that were not of the red variety, but of the red, white and blue schema?

No. Evil hung from the Obama tree.

But look who's on the ornament right next to Michelle Obama in this picture:

I couldn't speak..I looked at the ring then at him over and over in panic..Then he laughed and handed me the real ring..Really funny dude..
I kept thinking how I was was going mess him up during the rest of the ceramony.while saying..'Yea to hold and keep' *maybe I'll spike his drink*
To love forever in sickness and health
*I'll get drunk and tell his girlfriend about the stripper*
I now pronounce you man and wife..
*You were in on it weren't you bitch*
You may now kiss the bride

I have just got through cooking my first kosher Christmas lunch. Only found out yesterday that the Israeli family coming over were kosher, so some last-minute changes were in order! (dear wife is of the Israeli persuasion, but a hardened kibbutznikit so more Jew-ish than Jewish).

Kosher guests have now departed so I am prepping prawn salad, chipolatas and ice cream for dinner. In the same dish.

For my part, I'd like to hear more emphasis on, "Please, stop all the hate" -and-
"Please, no more killing"

100 What, me worry?  Fri, Dec 25, 2009 12:26:09pm

re: #91 Stuart Leviton

I hear a motion to modify the wording. It now reads
Peace on earth; Good will to most people.

Would anyone else propose amending the resolution?

Naw, but I do like "good will to all" a bit better then "good will to men".

Gosh, I sound all feminist-y today eh?

Dr. Ian Malcolm is as quotable in that movie as any role in any other movie I've ever seen.

huh? I hope that made sense.

Like... totally. It's a great line.

You're wise.

Peace on earth; Good will to most persons;
or at least Please, stop the hate
and Please, stop the killing.

Is the wording right? We might need a constitutional lawyer for this?
Did I hear someone suggest Ron Paul?

Ah, more wisdom from lgf readers. How should we work in the wording?

To your enemy, forgiveness.
To an opponent, tolerance.
To a friend, your heart.
To a customer, service.
To all, charity.
To every child, a good example.
To yourself, respect

And then everything will be groovy

Why are we limiting to persons from earth? I move our extraterrestrail brethren should be included, Vulcans, etc., maybe not Klingons.

I decided to make a fresh romaine salad, with my special red garlic dressing, which I'm including the recipe here (Merry Christmas to reine!)

Red Garlic Dressing

1/2 c. wine vinegar
1 clove garlic, crushed
1/4 c. brown sugar
1/4 tsp. paprika
1/4 tsp. mustard powder
1/4 c. ketchup
1/2 tsp. salt
1/4 c. exv olive oil

Combine all ingredients in a salad bottle, shake well and pour.

Larry Miller was talking about skiing, said a mountain goat came over him and said, "I don't get it. We have to be up here."

I don't get it. We bought a pre-fab Christmas dinner. The rolls were from the bakery. The gravy was from the deli. So was the turkey. The only things I did at home were to cook the artichokes, and make a yam casserole.

We used every pot in the house. I am boiling water for coffee in the wok.

HOW?

Not having a tv, I have forgotten the Star Trek lingo to refer to the universe.

Peace on earth and and our extraterrestrial brethren
including the Vulcans but maybe not Kingons;
Good will to most persons unless otherwise indicated in clause A;
or at least Please, stop the hate
and Please, stop the killing.

May I insert: and E.T. phone home.

Iceweasel and I have made a special video to commemorate our union on this most auspicious of days.

[Video]There's a shout-out at the end to LGF and its great community, without which we would never have met. I'm off shortly to help ice-ski with the mince pies - have a great one folks!

Unfuckingbelievable that a jealous spiteful person would slink back here to downding this, hoping that her spite, malice, and envy would pass unnoticed because she did it a little later.

Shameful.
