LGF Pages: Sharing Enabled
Today’s new feature for LGF Pages: I’ve added support for the AddThis sharing widget to all Pages.
I was actually going to write my own version, because there are some things I’ve never liked about the AddThis widget (even though it’s been in use at LGF for years). But I checked their website recently and discovered that all of my criticisms had been addressed in the latest version of their API; their code is now asynchronous, unobtrusive, and doesn’t have to be kludged into the body of the page any more. And they’ve moved their service to Akamai, so performance issues should be significantly improved.
Here’s how the widget works: when you hover over the “Share” button, a menu pops up with a list of many popular “social web” and bookmarking sites, such as Twitter, Facebook, Digg, Reddit, Yahoo Buzz, etc. Click on one of these services and the AddThis widget opens a window to that service, and automatically fills in the URL and title of the post for you.
But wait! There’s more!
Another new feature — on each individual Page (by “individual Page” I mean the page where users can comment), a new section now shows five other recent Pages posted by the author, so you can check out his or her other work easily.
