I should note, since it's the topic under discussion today, that I also recently deleted several (3 or 4, I'm not sure) early LGF posts about the Flight 93 memorial controversy, that were written before it became clear to me that the story was complete and utter bunk being promoted by loons. (I realized that years ago, by the way.)
I deleted these posts because I noticed from our referral logs that they were being linked to in an attempt to resurrect the controversy again, and I want no part of that.

I have to agree with you and I feel the same way about some of my past writings and opinions. Personally I feel beliefs and philosophies are constantly changing since we're by and large constantly reading new things, hearing new perspectives, etc. A good example of this is how I went from being a total dove on foreign policy to a more realist position after I took an international relations class. I realized things were more complicated than I thought they were.

Bad signs make your side look bad.
At one rally, a couple of years ago now, a Kahanist showed up and held a sighn that read, "The war is not over until all of Gaza is destroyed." Guess which sign is now proudly displayed on anti-Israel/anti-war sites on left-wing blogs and announcement sites? That one sign is used to demonize all of Israel and her supporters.

Divine judgmentFirst, I pray for those families who suffered in the San Bruno pipeline blast; this is a tragedy that could've been corrected with the right care being applied beforehand.
However, on a more divine level: This blast can be viewed as God's divine judgment upon San Fransicko (sic) for its ultra-leftist and anti-normal way of doing things, and for that sad excuse of a judge who overturned the will of the people in his anti-Proposition 8 ruling.

The whole 'inbreeding' thing reminds me of a Yogi Berra-ism or something.
"Nobody goes there, it's too crowded."
"All 1.5 billion of them are inbreeding with each other."
Ah I always loved Yogisms. But yeah how does a group that has a huge chunk of hte overall population inbreed with each other? Guess facts don't matter. Anything to demonize Muslims for these people. Great job fucktards, you certainly are showing a "welcoming" image to people who want to emigrate here.

Breitbart:
You're not controversial. Katie Couric is controversial. Charlie Gibson is controversial. Brian Williams is controversial. The New York Times is controversial. Those people that represent the minority are acting as if you're somehow doing something that is morally incorrect. Well, I think the term that we're talking about is politically incorrect.
Something makes me think Katie Couric is onto some scoop that he's trying to preempt. This is the 2nd time I've seen him mention her by name....

I know. Incidentally, this is the sort of arguing I've used when discussing related issues with more paranoid-minded individuals. America is a huge nation. When we begin to hear that we aren't allowed to buy beer, wine, tequila at the local market; when we learn that our gfs, wives, daughters can't walk down the street without being assaulted by 2+ lust-filled followers of some local Imam, SHIT WILL HIT THE FAN.

Since we're talking about the idiocy of the day, I see that the odious Ben Shapiro has cranked out another winner today. I'll not link it, but his column is available all over the place (he's syndicated by Creators Syndicate, like many RW pundits):
Why We Treat Obama 'Like A Dog'
[...]
But let's take Obama at his word. If we're treating Obama "like a dog" - and let's assume he means "Stone Free" Jimi Hendrix-style - it's because he deserves it. If Obama were a dog, he'd be a bad dog. The kind of dog that routinely drinks from the toilet, and simply will not be taught that drinking from the toilet is bad manners (think Obama on health care). The kind of dog that barks at all hours of the night, just for attention (think Obama's pathetic need for constant adulation). The kind of dog that runs from intruders when danger's in the air (think Obama on Iraq, Iran, Russia, North Korea, China - hell, just think about Obama's position on any country that isn't an American ally). The kind of dog that chews on the furniture out of pure spite (if Obama's actually going to chew on the furniture, by the way, let me be the first to suggest he start with the new, hideous Oval Office accoutrements).
If Obama's a dog, he's a puppy that has never been housebroken, whose owner continually babies it and never requires basic standards of behavior. President Obama has never had to make a living; he has never had to face the consequences of his behavior, whether that behavior is hanging out with terrorists, doing cocaine, or attending a racist church for 20 years. He's never been held accountable. Finally, he's being held accountable. He doesn't like it, so he's rhetorically urinating in the middle of the living room.
[...]
Classy as ever....

You know, the longer all this fuss over Park 51 goes on, I notice fewer and fewer attention paid to it. I think Jones' little stunt last week soured a lot of folks on the whole subject, as they came to the realization that much of what's driving all the "outrage" is pure, unleaded Islamophobia. I'm beginning to think the best solution to this whole mess is simply to wait it out, letting Crazy Pam and the rest of the Bigot Brigade be their own worst enemies. By the beginning of next year, I figure most folks won't even be willing to admit they ever had an opinion on the whole mess.

re: #194 Targetpractice, Worst of Both Worlds
You know, the longer all this fuss over Park 51 goes on, I notice fewer and fewer attention paid to it. I think Jones' little stunt last week soured a lot of folks on the whole subject, as they came to the realization that much of what's driving all the "outrage" is pure, unleaded Islamophobia. I'm beginning to think the best solution to this whole mess is simply to wait it out, letting Crazy Pam and the rest of the Bigot Brigade be their own worst enemies. By the beginning of next year, I figure most folks won't even be willing to admit they ever had an opinion on the whole mess.
Really? I am more inclined to think as time goes on it will lose sensationalism but become entrenched as a major topic of political debate. I guess we shall see.

I'm of the opinion that, the longer this goes on, the bigger the spotlight shown on Crazy Pam and the others leading the charge, the more likely that one or all of them will so badly damage their "case" against Park 51 that supporting the opposition will simply be unpalatable to the majority of Americans.

True. Yet, this is one of those issues where I find it hard to believe that anybody could get away with playing both sides for suckers. My guess is most will only tackle the subject if specifically asked about it or if they are desperate enough to risk blowback in order to scare up a few crucial votes.

I make no claim about the logic.
I do know a member of a holiness church that was founded in the 1880's who is convinced it goes all the way back to Jesus in an unbroken line. Just like the apostolic succession but not like that somehow. She's convinced that my Episcopalian church is little better than the near devil worshipers in Rome.

I think that's probably the only place you'll see support/opposition be played up, in the local scenes, where candidates have more of a grasp of what the voters like/dislike. I don't think may candidates on the federal level are gonna take one side or the other unless they're desperate for votes.

Well, to be entirely accurate, Catholic groups cannot be fundamentalist. Even the most reactionary of them recognize the right of the clergy to interpret the Bible non-literally in certain circumstances. That's also the reason Protestant Fundies never get along with such Catholic groups: They believe such interpretation is a theological error and they also dislike the way the clergy sometimes uses interpretation as a weapon.
