Keith Jarrett Solo: Don’t Worry ‘Bout Me
At Tokyo’s Metropolitan Festival Hall in October 2002, here’s Keith Jarrett performing the classic tune “Don’t Worry ‘Bout Me,” by Rube Bloom and Ted Koehler. Just gorgeous playing.

jarrett soars above the conventions that it is all to easy to fall into for traditional ballads like this. so far from yet again recapitulating the lush harmonies that duke ellington wonderfully pioneered for these kinds of tunes many decades ago, as too many do, jarrett takes one chorus with only the simplest of harmonies in the left hand, while launching into inspired and transcendent runs in the right hand. the next chorus finds him adding subtle accents through unexpected replacement chords here and there, in his own voice, while at the same time striving for that simplest and most fundamental of embellishments - feeling the tune fully through his own heart

T%hat is just a beautiful song..Haunting and wistful to begin with and then huge scales with energy and combining the whole piece together...I love the way he builds the song...This reminds me of..
* Clinking of glasses..Spoken whispers..And smoke filled the air*
This is so jazz club...All we need now is Suzie Diamond sitting next to Kieth on the piano and singing the song in a hot Smokey sultry voice...
/I should have been a producer..But Springtime for Hitler really messed my career up.

I had to listen to this a second time. About halfway through you can see his right hand clearly as he rips into one of those runs, and his technique is just incredible. His hand barely seems to move as all these notes pour out, perfectly articulated.
He's always been one of the most gifted pianists in modern jazz.

Don't Worry 'Bout Me - Ted Koehler 1938
Don't worry 'bout me
I'll get along
Forget about me
Be happy my love
Let's say that our little show is over
And so the story ends
Why not call it a day, the sensible way
And still be friends
Look out for yourself
Should be the rule
Give your heart and your love, to whomever you love
Don't be a fool
Darling why stop to cling, to some fading thing
That used to be
If you can forget
Don't you worry 'bout me

Pianist/composer Rube Bloom and lyricist Ted Koehler’s hit number was introduced by vocalist/bandleader Cab Calloway in the Cotton Club Parade of 1939. Hal Kemp’s version hit the charts that same year:
* Hal Kemp and His Orchestra (1939, Bob Allen, vocal, #5)
* Frank Sinatra (1954, vocal, #17)

About that Tea Party convention… canceled
....I put in a call to the Mirage hotel and asked if I could book a room in their block for the event. Turns out the room block had been canceled and the Mirage had no record of the event.
So there you have it, the much hyped Tea Party Unity Convention is now completely canceled. Maybe they shouldn’t have paid Sarah Palin $100,000 to keynote the first event and they might have had a little more staying power financially.

I'm thinking about requiring licensure for being a wingnut. This way the have to take a 24 hour test (broken into 3 sessions). Once they pass they can have a license and stamp and call themselves a Licensed Wingnut (LW). We'll have to form state boards (such as Colorado Board of Licensed Wingnuts) and a Federal department (Federal Wingnut Administration - FWA). Anyone caught practicing wingnuttery without a license shall be fined a minimum of $5,000 and serve a minimum of 5 years.

That would be fine. If one wants to practice wingnuttery without a license though they can't call themselves a wingnut. Otherwise they'll get an order to cease and desist from the state wingnut board.

Suspect sets fire to house, surrenders in Texas standoff, police say
(CNN) -- A man accused of shooting a civilian and two law enforcement officers turned himself in after setting his home on fire Saturday afternoon, Texas police said.
Victor White, 55, faces two counts of attempted capital murder, and Trooper John Barton of the state Department of Public Safety said more charges were possible as the investigation continues. White turned himself in about 2 p.m., almost a day after police say he shot the three men on his property in west Odessa.
"Just after setting his house on fire for some reason we don't know at this time, he walked toward one of our law enforcement armored vehicles and gave himself up," Barton said.
White was taken to Medical Center Hospital where he was being treated for burns.
Though authorities are still trying to determine what precipitated the incident, Barton said police allege White has links to white supremacist organizations and to the separatist group Republic of Texas, which was involved in 1997's Fort Davis Resort standoff.
White's 3- to 4-acre property was littered with trash and included a trailer, abandoned vehicles and a dirt mound, which Barton described as fortress-like and equipped with trenches and "fighting positions."
"He pretty much lived off the grid," Barton said.
Continues.

Tea party favorite Christine O'Donnell, whose Republican primary upset in Delaware's Senate race shocked the GOP, canceled appearances Sunday on two national news shows.
O'Donnell had been set to appear on "Face the Nation" on CBS and "Fox News Sunday."
Campaign spokeswoman Diana Banister cited scheduling conflicts and said O'Donnell needed to return to Delaware for commitments to church events and afternoon picnic with Republicans in a key county where she has solid backing.

Holes in my Skin
By the Hoopster…
(Yes..I’m bored )
Key of A
You know there is a time when you gotta go
There is a time when you just gotta leave
There is a time to love..And there is a time to leave the scene
There is a time to slam the door..There is a time to say hello
There is a time to stay and a time to go
Time to lose your faith
And a time to believe
I got holes in my skin
I got holes in my eyes
I got holes in my soul
but it’s only right to go go go oh no
I got time on the table
But it’s almost gone
I got a life to live
But really not for very long
I got nothing to give
You gave me the short..I gave you the Long
I got holes in my skin
..And I’m starting to bleed
I got holes in my story
I tell her as I leave
She left a hole in my skin
She left a hole in my soul

re: #97 HoosierHoops
Chorus rewrite
I got holes in my skin
I got holes in my eyes
I got holes in my soul
but it's no surprise
I got holes in my life
Caused by strife
over me....
I got holes in this world
but It's only right
I got holes in my skin
Ready for a fight
Bleeding over in the streets..It's looking grim
/OK I can't write without my guitar.I almost give up
You believes that?
Crap..Help..This song is on the tip of my dumb brain...
