Oslo Terrorism Updates: Killer Funded ‘Counter-Jihad’ Movement

Here’s an update from the right wing Swedish website “Tidningen Realisten,” which reported yesterday that the Oslo terrorist may have been notorious white nationalist blogger “Fjordman.” They acknowledge today that this isn’t the case, but they say Anders Behring Breivik himself claimed to be “Fjordman:” Google Translation:

Updated at. 03:37
Data in the evening argues that Fjordman during the day writing an article and thus can not be identical with Anders Behring Breivik. Our information is based on Breivik for about a year ago myself claimed to be the blogger Fjordman. Of course, the task to be inaccurate, if not so many writers hid behind the name. The fact that several people tonight gave himself for being Fjordman suggests that it could be the case. If Fjordman feel unduly singled out, he is welcome with a clarification. Breivik, among other things on his Facebook page earlier expressed the same opinions as Fjordman has spread in their texts so we did not see reason to distrust his own statement that he was the man behind the pseudonym.

For more information on Breivik’s influences (which include Robert Spencer, Pamela Geller, and the Gates of Vienna blog), LGF reader Sergey Romanov put together an excellent LGF Page with translations of comments posted by Breivik at a Norwegian website: Mind of a Counter-Jihadi: Visualizing Anders Breivik’s ideology.

It appears that Breivik was contributing a great deal of money to the far right “counter-jihad” movement (or at least, he boasted that he was):

I ran the business a few years while I studied and earned a few million so I could finance a inntektsløs politically active life. I now use these funds to be able to work full time to further develop / promote the Vienna Academy (Vienna school of thought) that Fjordman, Bat Yeor, Spencer + many others have already contributed so much till.

I think that's a Swedish site, rather than a Norwegian one. I don't know how much to believe them, since they seem to be kinda Nazis.

I wonder if Fjordman will get interviewed, though. Has there been actual proof of contacts between them, or just Anders approvingly posting Fjordman's stuff, recommending his book, and saying that he was dedicating his life to pushing those ideals?

I think you're right, it's Swedish. It's a crazy site all right -- there are links to books about the Bilderbergs, etc. No way to know if what they say is true -- that's why I was careful to note that the information was unverified yesterday.

I wanted to update with their new post, though, because it's relevant in light of the earlier post -- and it does show the kinds of connections going on in this creepy world of Eurofascists.

re: #3 Charles

It is easy imagine this guy claiming to be Fjordman, since his philosophy is entirely based on Fjordman and the other far-right anti-Muslim types.

I'm really, really concerned as to whether he did act alone or not. Did he not share any information, any hint of this with any fellow travelers? Did he do all the planning, the assembly of the bomb, all by himself?

I'm also confused as to why he surrendered. Is it fear, or does he want to rant at his trial? Most assholes like this go out guns blazing.

There's a convergence of world views between the shooter/bomber and Fjordy, but I kind of picture Fjordy trying to talk a person to death.

I think that the online conversations may interest the police. How much information they shared, what they talked about, was there money involved. He also mentioned that he had conversations with the EDL and SIOE (Pam's group) about strategies and tactics. I'm sure the police are interested.

(The Guardian) Norway attacks: Utøya gunman boasted of links to UK far right

Anders Brehing Breivik, the man accused of the murder of at least 91 Norwegians in a twin bomb and gun massacre, boasted online about his discussions with the far right English Defence League and other anti-Islamic European organisations.

...

It was revealed that the 32-year-old former member of the country's conservative Progress Party – who had become ever more extreme in his hatred of Muslims, left wingers and the country's political establishment – had ordered six tonnes of fertiliser in May to be used in the bombing. While police continued to interrogate Breivik, who was charged with the mass killings, evidence of his increasingly far right world view emerged from an article he had posted on several Scandinavian websites, including Nordisk – a site frequented by neo-Nazis, far right radicals and Islamophobes since 2009.

The Norwegian daily VG quoted one of Breivik's friends saying that he had become a rightwing extremist in his late 20s and was now a strong opponent of multi-culturalism, expressing strong nationalistic views in online debates.

Breivik had talked admiringly about conversations he had had with unnamed English Defence League members and the organisation Stop the Islamification of Europe over the success of provocative street actions leading to violence.

"I have on some occasions had discussions with SIOE and EDL and recommended them to use certain strategies," he wrote two years ago.

"The tactics of the EDL are now to 'lure' an overreaction from the Jihad Youth/Extreme-Marxists, something they have succeeded in doing several times already." Contacted about the allegation by email by last night the EDL had not answered.

That made me think (if true) he deliberately went after two generations- leadership and potential leadership. Or going for the sheer terror of a two generation loss for the families. For a crude car bomb it doesn't take much other than an ability to use the Internet and the ability to get needed materials. Now, if you wanted to pull of the Beirut bombing, then yeah, some training is in order.

But it doesn't take any kind of training to put a bunch of explosive material (like propane or gasoline) into a car and detonating it.

It's not as difficult as one would believe. The Oklahoma City bombing was a fertilizer bomb. Either fuel oil or Diesel mixed in proper portions with ammonium nitrate. The most complex part would be the timer/detonator mechanism and electronics which can be found across the internet and printed manuals can be readily found if you know where to look.

Breivik is not a right winger. Breivik is just another left winger. He's a product of gender studies. The kind of thing people learn in black studies classes at colleges. Breivik is a leftist and I am appalled that you people would consider him a right winger! -- Andrew Breitfart

He writes: "I refuse to stoop to the minutiae of time-wasting “repudiations”. It’s a Sisyphean task".

I wonder why.

Just posted in English on my blog: [Link: oyvindstrommen.be...]

Excellent post, excellent translation.

This quotation from Breivik:

If these demands are not fully implemented, if the European Union isn’t dismantled, Multiculturalism isn’t rejected and Muslim immigration isn’t stopped, we, the peoples of Europe, are left with no other choice than to conclude that our authorities have abandoned us, and that the taxes they collect are therefore unjust and that the laws that are passed without our consent are illegitimate. We will stop paying taxes and take the appropriate measures to protect our own security and ensure our national survival.

reminds me of stuff I've read from Arizona.

One of the gravest threats facing America today is the lack of security and enforcement along the U.S. and Mexican border. The consequences of this lack of security have yielded an unparalleled invasion of drug cartels, violent gangs, an estimated 20 million illegal aliens, and even terrorists.

Because of the Federal Government's failure to stop this invasion, the State of Arizona signed into law SB 1406. Part of this important legislation established this website for the purpose of raising funds through donations from private citizens, businesses, and corporations across the country in an effort to finance and finish building our border fence. One hundred percent of the funds raised will be held in a trust fund account in the Arizona State Treasurer's Office. The bill also created the Joint Border Security Advisory Committee for oversight and accountability of these funds. Additionally, in an effort to contain costs, inmate labor will be utilized in building the border fence.

Do the Norwegians have an injunction against inmates making a profit on any books or movie deals they make about their crime?

I honestly have no clue.

What's really funny about Breivik once claiming to be fjordman is that Pam Geller keeps asking "if it wasn't Muslims, why did a Muslim group claim responsibility at first?" So one could ask: "if Breivik isn't fjordman, why did he once claim to be, hmmmmmm?"

Pammycakes has apparently forgotten that, in the aftermath of heinous crimes, various nutballs quite often climb out of the woodwork to claim responsibility. Ask any cop.

Regarding the killer funding the counter jihad movement: He certainly had enough money to do it. He is listed with a net worth of $72 000. If someone has that amount of net worth (and no listed income), it usually means that they have no mortgage, possibly owns a company, or owns real estate. I don't know if he actually supported them financially, or just vocally.

In an interview with the neighbors of his farm, they said that they didn't really suspect anything. He seemed like a nice, polite guy. Maybe a little bit too nice and polite.. One thing they did notice however, was that after buying 6 tons of fertilizer in May, he did not spread it on the fields. It also didn't seem like he was doing any actually farming, which was his official intent. A few years before ABB took over the farm, it had been used as a base for (illegal) marijuana production. The owner was in jail, and from what I've read rented the farm to ABB.

Don't know really. As far as i know, Australians use the same words as Americans, it's just that their accent can be a bit difficult. Swedish and Danish use other words (though often related to the Norwegian ones), in addition to a different 'tone' (or accent). Even in some Norwegian dialects, they use completely different words than what is 'official Norwegian'. Even I have difficulties understanding some of our dialects fully. Loads of funny cuss words in some of the dialects also . This is a classic from northern Norway:

This guy uses some quite colorful language against his washing machine (and his wife).
His son sneaked a tape recorder in there. It's all real.

re: #48 Sergey Romanov

The attacks leaves a lot of questions. To the best of my knowledge, no army on earth teaches how to make bombs out of fertilizer. To make a large and effective one takes specialized training and practice. Something one gets typically at Al Qaeda camps in Afghanistan and Pakistan.

I learned how to make a fertilizer bomb (among other ad hocs) from the US Army. Specialized course, I admit, but it was still a US Army course. Also, several farmer's guides prior to the 1970s taught how to make ANFOs for things like removing stumps. If you had a copy of the Black Books or the Anarchist's Cookbook you also got decent instructions. (Some of the other explosives recipes were hazardous, but the ANFO directions were quite good.)

What has delighted me for decades is that no terrorist has turned to any of the field expedients that sacrifice property damage for increased casualties.
