Tech Note: Let’s Play Tag

An Ajax-based, personalized, auto-suggesting tagging system
LGF • Views: 22,727

Today we’re unveiling a brand new tagging system for your LGF Pages, making it much easier to create new tags and reuse previously created tags with a personalized autocompletion feature.

The LGF Pages posting bookmarklet now uses your personal “tag library” (all the tags you’ve ever used for your Pages) to help you quickly enter tags without much typing. When you start typing into the Tags area you’ll see a popup list of all the tags in your library that match what you’ve typed so far. For example, type the letters ‘Ap’ and you might see something like this:

You can move through the list with your arrow keys or by using the mouse, and select a tag by hitting return or clicking.

When you enter tags, you’ll no longer see the drab, boring, comma-delimited list of text. Instead, the tags look very similar to the way they appear when you post your Page:

The little red X at the right side of each tag is a delete button; you can also delete tags one at a time in reverse order by backspacing. Play around with it and see what you think; hopefully this will encourage you LGF Pages authors to start using tags more.

(Hat tip to XOXCO for their very nice jQuery Tags Input plugin.)

What dominionists would do?

They only disagree with a sharia takeover because they think any theocracy that exists in America should be a Christian one.

Wow.

On His Summer Break, California College Kid Joins Libyan Rebels

Chris Jeon, 21, doesn't really fit in among the rebels. Reporters found the American kid in the middle of the Libyan desert, wearing a basketball jersey and converse sneakers. One of the rebels handed him an AK-47 and after toying with the safety, Jeon fired a couple of rounds in the air. Jeon, a math major at the University of California, Los Angeles, doesn't speak Arabic and he also knows little of warfare.

Dammit, I wish I could have done more.

What dominionists would do

To all this we must add that capital sanctions for those who repudiate parental authority protect the family from treason. Many today would think capital punishment for treason against the family is extreme, but on the other hand, capital punishment for treason against the state is a necessity. (p. 205)

From the article. I'm not sure what this means, but I once had a discussion, (broken off mid-discussion so it did not become an argument) with a far-right friend who believed that the state NEVER has the right to intervene in a family.

My grandmother had been a guardian ad litem in a case where the parents had used their children in a child porn ring. I brought this up and no, her answer did not change.

The discussion ended there. She wasn't going to change her mind, and I don't believe God created the right to abuse your children.

One of my co-workers has a system like this...takes all his notes with it then transfers them to his computer via USB adapter on the back of the pen. The notepad has very fine grid markings, and icons for copy, delete, etc. so you can filter out things you didn't mean to write...pretty cool, actually. I like that it's going to work for animation now...that'll be fun to see evolve if it takes hold with the public.

A few updates.

I don't think my neighborhood is going to be evacuated. The fire is not officially "controlled", but they're all over it and it hasn't burned any houses.

As for the three surgeries of yesterday: The friend with the cancer in his ear had his postponed, doc says he's doing OK, and they rescheduled for October; the neighbor across the street had her thyroid out, and by tomorrow they'll know whether the growth in it is benign or not; and my niece's surgery went great, the doctor is very pleased and the niece is anxious to be up and at 'em already, although she's got months of recovery ahead of her.

Now I can get back to work.

37 Kragar  Thu, Sep 1, 2011 3:47:56pm

Daffy doesn't seem to quite understand what happened:

"Even if you cannot hear my voice, continue the resistance," Gaddafi said.

"We will not surrender. We are not women and we are going to keep on fighting," the message said.

Gaddafi called on his supporters to set Libya alight, vowed that his backers would not give up, he said in the message.

"Let there be a long fight and let Libya be engulfed in flames." He said the "balance of power is now leveled as all tribes are now armed".

The pro-Gaddafi station carried written extracts from a message from the fallen leader, saying it would be broadcast later.

Al Jazeera's Anita McNaught, reporting from Tripoli, said: "It is hard to see what it exactly is he [Gaddafi] thinks he can achieve unless Colonel Gaddafi doesn't understand that it really is the end game being played out here now and that the rest of the country almost no longer cares about him anymore."

Sounds like Sen. Lieberman may be leaning toward endorsing the Republican again for President:

[Link: www.foxnews.com...]

"I'm going to approach this 2012 election as the independent that I am and therefore I don't know who I'm going to support at this point," Lieberman said Wednesday.

He suggested one of his tests will be to gauge whether the candidates believe, as he does, that America should "remain strong and involved" around the world. "In both parties there are groups that would try to pull us back," he said.

But he praised Perry, the Texas governor who officially jumped in the race for the GOP nomination Saturday, for "his willingness to not be coy about America's role as a world leader."

...

"First impressions are important. He's made, to me, some very good first impressions," Lieberman said, adding: "It's the beginning of a long trail, and we'll see how it goes."

The senator told Fox News on Tuesday night that he wants to see who the Republicans nominate before making an endorsement decision.

There was also this today:

[Link: thehill.com...]

The Obama administration’s fear of offending Muslims will hurt the U.S. war against terrorism, Sen. Joe Lieberman (I-Conn.) said Thursday in a speech blasting the president’s new counterterrorism strategy.

Lieberman said that Obama’s strategy, which was released in June, “was ultimately a big disappointment,” and while it successfully identified the core of the domestic radicalization problem, it did not establish a clear plan of attack to deal with the growing issue.

The four-term senator and one-time presidential candidate said one of the key problems with the Obama administration’s strategy was that it continues to call terrorism that aims to harm the U.S., “violent extremism” instead of “violent Islamist extremism.”

“The administration still refuses to call our enemy in this war by its proper name: violent Islamist extremism,” Lieberman said, speaking at a National Press Club event hosted by the National Consortium for the Study of Terrorism and Responses to Terrorism (START).

“To call our enemy ‘violent extremism’ is so general and vague that it ultimately has no meaning. The other term used sometimes is Al Qaeda and its allies. Now that’s better but it is still too narrow and focuses us on groups as opposed to what I would call an ideology, which is what we’re really fighting.”

59 Killgore Trout  Thu, Sep 1, 2011 4:08:25pm

Here's a good article for those following the outrageous outrage about Gibson guitars: Why Gibson Guitar Was Raided By The Justice Department

Andrea Johnson, director of forest programs for the Environmental Investigation Agency in Washington, says the Lacey Act requires end users of endangered wood to certify the legality of their supply chain all the way to the trees. EIA's independent investigations have concluded that Gibson knowingly imported tainted wood.

"Gibson clearly understood the risks involved," says Johnson. "Was on the ground in Madagascar getting a tour to understand whether they could possibly source illegally from that country. And made a decision in the end that they were going to source despite knowing that there was a ban on exports of ebony and rosewood."
...
Chris Martin, Chairman and CEO of the C.F. Martin Guitar Co. in Nazareth, Pa., says that when he first heard guitars built from Madagascar rosewood, he dreamed it might be the long-sought substitute for Brazilian rosewood, whose trade was banned in the 1990s due to over-harvest. Then the situation in Madagascar changed.

"There was a coup," Martin says. "What we heard was the international community has come to the conclusion that the coup created an illegitimate government. That's when we said, 'Okay, we can not buy any more of this wood.'"

The laws are a real bitch for those of us in the business but they are there for a reason. Gibson has a history of knowingly breaking those laws so the raid should come as no surprise.
