GOP Debates Will Continue Until Morale Improves

But without Herman, and that means I am sad
Politics • Views: 31,968

It’s time for another Republican Party debate, and I’m sure you’re all as excited about that as I am.

Yet, in the midst of this expectation, I am sad. Life just seems so empty without Herman Cain and his visionary 9-9-9 plan. These debaters have some mighty big shoes to fill.

There’s going to be a semi-live feed here: ABC5 - Des Moines, Iowa.

While we wait for the clown car to arrive, Jake Tapper tweeted this picture earlier of the stand-ins for the candidates rehearsing during setup. This was probably more interesting than the actual debate.

(Registration’s open, if you’d like to leap into the fray.)

I hope Mitt Romney announces his brilliant new strategy: 9-9-9...

We'll see if Romney can hold against Newt tonight. He cannot count on being the frontrunner, and will now have to get into the fray.

It's 12-term outsider Ron Paul!

11 Major Tom  Sat, Dec 10, 2011 5:59:07pm

Romney needs to impress, Newt needs to not screw up, and Ron Paul needs to seem like he's not a befuddled 76 year old. I don't honestly think the others have a shot. The big questions are, who gets perry's and bachmann's supporters? I doubt they go to Romney after all this time... maybe out of sheer hatred of Obama...

It largely depends on what other issues the GOP can get shoved on the ballots. If they get a 'fuck the gays' bill put on the ballot in a state, a referendum that has to be voted on, then that'll bring out the hyperconservative voters, and once they're actually at the voting booth they'll probably pull the lever for the R while they're there.

It's kind of interesting, in a bizarre way. It infects everyone. There was some left-wing dude in here the other day who was saying that Israel was happy the US invaded Iraq, and so the Jew-counting that Adbusters did of neocon Jews was relevant to the Iraq War.

Only problem is that Israel didn't want the US to invade Iraq. Their #1 enemy is Iran, followed by the rabble of Hamas. I have no idea why people use Israel as this lens to focus their views through, but it's a distorting lens.

Obama is causing the problems in the middle east.

All of them.

In two more words -- Christian Zionism. Rabid support of Israel is a cornerstone of the religious right. Israel needs to exist for Jesus to come back, or something.

Have to kill a magic cow in order to build the magic building that will summon Jesus.

Thank you very much, it's so nice and refreshing to see people here seeking what's best for this country and the world which we all share, or, at least, should share.

Yeah, I really don't think Jews are the target audience. Just like when the GOP used to try to hide the racism, it wasn't for people of color it was for white suburbanites who didn't want to knowingly vote for a racist party.

Yes, Jews are definitely not the actual target of the pandering about Israel.

Nor are Israelis. Santorum just annexed the West Bank, which is not an idea with majority support in Israel.

His support is rather obviously based on the land of Israel, as a sacred thing. If Israel decided to trade land, to alter borders, I think Santorum wouldn't support them.

I'm sure they would love that, but they have won elections without Jews before. They need white evangelical votes. No other group will ever be more important.

It's definitely to get the Christian Conservative vote, not the Jewish vote. The Jewish vote will go mainly to Obama no matter what Republicans say about Israel, and it's not that big a vote in the first place, especially in a Republican primary.

Yes, we stand with the Israeli people...no matter how fucking crazy they act or what shit they drag us into.

Except for the socialized medicine and free univeristy for everyone and gay commandos and a full five per cent of the nation's population camped out in the parks and squares and streets of Tel Aviv to protest economic inequality and lack of affordable housing... those parts the R's are going to pretend not to know about.

They're wasting their time trying to court the Jewish vote.

Every time one of them talks about putting Christian values into law, our grandparents have flashbacks and run as fast as they can in the opposite direction.
