NASA’s Suomi National Polar-orbiting Partnership (Suomi NPP) satellite, launched about 90 days ago, has produced an absolutely amazing super high resolution full-disc image of the Earth, produced in several passes over Central America.

It is fake. The entire space program is a hoax; the sky is a big dome over a flat earth and the Sun, the Moon and the Stars are just projected onto it by "them."/

Impressive.

Most impressive.

The Flickr feed for the spacecraft is pretty neat - it shows how some of the imagery was created via overlaps, closeups of some parts of the US and the launch and launch prep.

9 Daniel Ballard  Thu, Jan 26, 2012 12:47:09pm

8K is some serious resolution. Eye popping good. For a clue what could be done with this, consider the very newest theater projectors are 4k. The first round of digital projection was 2k. An 8k projector was just announced by Sony. That could make this image 60 feet tall and be as crisp as any movie you ever saw.

Oh, that damn movie. I grew up a half hour away from the Lake Wissota the mention in the movie. The lake that didn't exist at the time the Titanic sank (the damn not being completed till 1917!) but what the heck! That alone is reason enough, for me, to never give Cameron a penny of mine ever again. Not just for the specific error but the attitude that allows that kind of error in the first place. It isn't even good entertainment either.

re: #49 Rightwingconspirator

In many respects Cameron is like Lucas. Both are incredible filmmakers who have advanced the art of movie making technologically, but whose abilities to tell stories is much more pedestrian.

Cameron's best films include Aliens, True Lies, and Terminator and T2. Original stories and taut action, sprinkled with some humor.

Avatar was a technological terror of a masterpiece in 3D, motion capture, etc., but the story... well.. sucked.

Titanic? We knew what happened. The boat sinks. We get that. So Cameron had to throw in a love story to gum things up. Oh, and it gave him the opportunity to build a near full-scale size Titanic for him to bust up.

Lucas? Well, we've got American Graffiti and Star Wars (ANH) and that's pretty much it from a directing standpoint. Yes, he was behind the rest of the Star Wars series, and Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith are serviceable, but they're notable more for their CGI and not the acting or storyline. In fact, he has to retcon most of what was set up in the original series (and further reinforced with his repeated messing around with the original series - Han Shot First!)

But from a tech standpoint, he figured out how to make those massive space battles come to life - and set up the companies that now define the cutting edge of tech - Lucasfilm, ILM, Skywalker Sound, THX, and a little spinoff known as Pixar.

Next movie for me is The Artist. A man I trust who has spent a long career in the film biz (makeup artist) swears it's a top 3 of all time for American cinema. Of course to him nothing will ever beat The Searchers.

I've a small backlog of films from this past year to watch. Got the remake of True Grit through Netflix and still haven't gotten around to sitting down and watching it.

96 Slumbering Behemoth Stinks  Thu, Jan 26, 2012 2:05:39pm

This sounds like a constitutional violation the wingnuts could get behind...

Say No to Retroactivity

The Obama administration this week urged the Supreme Court to let it apply new laws to old crimes in cases against immigrants who are in the country legally. But that kind of retroactivity would be both unusual and unfair; the court should say no.
---
The Constitution prohibits placing new penalties on old acts in criminal cases; "ex post facto" laws are banned in Article I. And while the rules are less clear in civil matters, including immigration cases, the courts have set very strict limits on when and how laws may be applied retroactively, requiring Congress to explicitly state its intent.

Obama Says Exchange With Arizona Gov. 'Blown Out Of Proportion'

One of the comments from the earlier TPM link you posted suggested the scenario that sounds about right, namely that Brewer's been stewing since the White House incident mentioned in her book, and planned to ambush Obama at the airport yesterday and give him a talking down to that he'd simply stand there and take. Instead, he responded like a normal human being, responding in a non-threatening and friendly manner, and the whole confrontation she had rehearsed in her head evaporated.

re: #184 Jimmah

Walter L,. Scumbag is now attacking people who were his "friends" on LGF - the wingnutttier ones, those who - at leasrt momentarily - shared his "WHATEVER HAPPENED TO ALL THE POOR WINGNUTS OF LGF?" views.

I feel bad for the people he is stabbing in the back, but I did try to warn them. What a smelly morally bankrupt old prick he has shown himself up to be. LOL

This morning he actually forgot for awhile that he'd outed one of McSpiff's emails just a couple of days ago, claimed that was a lie and that he wasn't even sure he had any emails from McSpiff. Then either someone reminded him or he went back and read his recent posts. That's an alarming failure of short term memory. He's a scumbag for sure, but there may also be some kind of physiological trauma that's playing into the current meltdown.

Just think. We're talking someone who is what? At least 60 years old? This is supposed to be an adult?

Is there anyone in his life at this point who doesn't deserve his "vengeance" (LOL).Because of Charles - somehow! What a sad way to approach the end of one's life.

I can't say I ever liked him, but I'll pray that was a one off thing. What it could imply otherwise, I'd not wish on anyone

That's interesting, because one of the first things I ever noticed about walter was that he seemed to lack short-term memory. He would be really nasty to someone and hours later not remember it.

They all have this deranged "ex-husband" mentality. It's as if though they're getting a divorce and continue to stalk their wives even though they have a restraining order preventing them from doing so. "If I can't be on LGF then I will destroy LGF! I am the biggest, meanest, 250 pounds of death made flesh!!11ty"

Agree. I'm simply pointing out the obvious:

Anyway… he say’s above “I know because he posted one of my emails”. When did I post one of McSpiff’s emails? I’m not sure I have any McSpiff emails. I’ll certainly go look now.

Well.. look around DoD… there’s no McSpiff email dump. What the fuck is he talking about?

Ok… seems in all my excitement, I forgot that I DID post some McSpiff emails on DoD before we got this “Guess the Email” contest started. My mistake.
Anyway… McSpiff is another lock-step leftist sycophant who was actually banned by Charles and then sent him a whiny apology to Charles and his lowness let him back in.
Wave’s to McSpiff.
Wave’s to Obdicut (hey jerk-wad… the email dump is real)

To forget such an overt act that occurred only four days prior, and to forget even being in possession of the released emails is an egregious failure of memory. This isn't a case of misplacing one's keys ...

Something is probably up there. Like I said, one of the first things I noticed about Walter was that he seemed to lack short term memory. He would forget by noon that he'd been horrible to someone that morning.

This was always part of walter's character.
