After a weekend full of engagements and marriages from friends around me, I realize I am in trouble.
Because of the conversion, am I ever going to be married? I feel that, being a convert, I will never become a true insider, even though I believe with all my heart. How does courtship even work, really, cause I’ve never gotten good directions.
I get the feeling I am at a massive social disadvantage, which, combined with my Autism, put me in an impossible disadvantage.

Virginia Republican Blames Democrats For GOP’s Secret Redistricting Plan
Virginia Senate Republican Leader Tommy Norment defended Monday’s GOP sneaky maneuver to subvert majority rule and gerrymander the Senate maps as nothing more than politics. And, even though he voted for the current bipartisan maps, he blamed Senate Democrats for having employed an unfair process two years ago.
Norment conceded that the sneak attack “may have been annoying, painful, and even strained some friendships,” but attacked Senate Democrats for being sanctimonious:
To all CA and National Republicans who I might otherwise support;
Its because of shitheads like this, I won’t vote for you.

I’m an atheist who has autism. I got married. In fact I’ve been married for 36 years and have two kids, one also has autism. She has two kids, the oldest — 16 years old has high functioning autism, the other is too young to know for sure if he has autism.
It isn’t a death sentence, it doesn’t stop you from developing relationships, and it doesn’t put you in an impossible disadvantage.

You forecast off of perceived conditions when your inner biases are biasing those perceptions in a negative direction. Stop fooling yourself that you are being dispassionate and unemotional in your analysis. Humans, as a rule, react initially with emotion. Deny that and you’ll assume you are being logical when you aren’t.

Norway goat cheese fire closes tunnel
About 27 tonnes of caramelised brown goat cheese - a delicacy known as Brunost - caught light as it was being driven through the Brattli Tunnel at Tysfjord, northern Norway, last week.
The fire raged for five days and smouldering toxic gases were slowing the recovery operation, officials said.
The tunnel - which is said to be badly damaged - is likely to remain closed for several weeks, they added.
“We can’t go in until it’s safe,” geologist Viggo Aronsen told Norwegian broadcaster NRK.

You’ve just inserted another stumbling block that doesn’t need to be there. What you need is to retrain your brain, to change which emotions and ideas group together. That can be done with the help of a psychologist/psychiatrist. As far as human contact is concerned, humans are animals. I’m not suggesting that we act less than human, but that some of our reactions are instinctive. As you push people, they will recognize stress and desperation in your actions and will tend to back away.
Medical professionals can teach you to modify your stress levels, and how you react to others so your actions fit in better with their expectations.
That was part of my grandson’s training.
But it takes time, lots of time, and effort on your part.

Outrage grows as records reveal bishops covered-up California sex abuse
Victims of child sex abuse by Roman Catholic clerics voiced anger after newly-released records showed church leaders discussing how to cover up priests’ alleged crimes in California in the 1980s.
Prosecutors also said they wanted to study the previously confidential records, including exchanges involving then Los Angeles Archbishop Roger Mahony about how to prevent police hearing about alleged abuse cases.
Excerpts from the documents were published Monday by The Los Angeles Times, including exchanges between Mahony and a top aide talking about how to conceal pedophile priests from law enforcement.

We need paperwork to buy or sell a car, to register to vote, to obtain a permit for an peaceful assembly. But the NRA says any paperwork for a gun transfer is tyranny.
The truth is the NRA represents the firearms industry. And they need to keep increasing sales or their businesses will fail. But guns don’t wear out like other products do say for example cars, once you have the guns you need for self defense or hunting you are pretty much set.
So the NRA needs to be out there 24/7 drumming up sales by scaring people.

Looks like Netanyahu isn’t as popular as some right-wingers had hoped:
Netanyahu wins narrow victory in Israeli elections
Benjamin Netanyahu’s right-wing Likud-Beitenu list won a narrow victory in legislative elections but was weakened by the unexpectedly strong showing by the centrist Yesh Atid, which campaigned on economic issues.
The result is likely to cramp Netanyahu’s room for manoeuvre vis-a-vis his future coalition partners.
Television exit polls showed Netanyahu’s Likud, which ran on a joint list with the hardline nationalist Yisrael Beitenu, suffering a serious setback, winning just 32-33 mandates in the 120-seat Knesset, down from 42 in the outgoing coalition.
And in an unexpected development, Yesh Atid, a secular centrist party launched just nine months ago, came in second place with 18-19, followed by the centre-left Labour with 16-17.[…]

I’d say so. I’d also say they don’t recognize the fact.
That’s what I’ve always found kind of funny. The way many will talk about violence in movies but only focus on Quentin Tarantino yet Dirty Harry movies aren’t mentioned nor is anything with Charles Bronson. It’s basically a selective criticism of Hollywood. Now that’s just the violent movies. Of course their general disgruntlement is about alleged liberal plots such as China Syndrome. I have my qualms about movies violence but I think we should include everyone in the mix. It’s not that important for me however. People will complain about Zero Dark Thirty too. In the end, it’s a movie. Don’t like it, don’t go. It’s all a fantasy anyway and we should treat them like adults. I was kind of mesmerized by Saw but that doesn’t mean it’s my new mantra. Or something.

If that can happen, I should be begin to recover.

The Unification Wars, also known as the Wars of Unification, the Unity Wars, The Unification or just The Unity, were a series of conflicts fought on Terra during the 30th Millennium at the end of the Age of Strife. It was during these campaigns that the Emperor of Mankind first publicly revealed himself to a desperate humanity and began his conquest of Terra to unify the techno-barbarian nations that dominated the sacred homeworld of Mankind and forge the foundation of the Imperium of Man.

Then it will be apparent to an overwhelming majority of people even those who may share her philosophy that she’s just in it for her ego and not any real desire to impact positive change on this country. I mean let me put it this way. As much as I dislike Michelle Bachmann and what she stands for, she didn’t quit. If Palin couldn’t handle it fine, but her armchair general act gets annoying. The unfounded assumption is that in a sample size of Americans as large as the US Military that the political makeup of the sample can somehow be significantly different than it would be for the general population of people in the same age group. It isn’t.
168 | Kragar Tue, Jan 22, 2013 8:44:51pm |
And a bonus:
The Thunder Warriors were the genetically-engineered warriors of Terra created by the Emperor of Mankind to unite the homeworld of humanity beneath his rule in the 30th Millennium. They were the first gene-enhanced warriors created by the Emperor and served as the precursors to the present-day Space Marines. Wrought to be living weapons, the Thunder Warriors were known to be physically stronger, more savage and more potent in combat than the later Astartes, though they were not as long-lived. Imperial chronicles hold that the last of the legendary Thunder Warriors died heroically during the final battle of the Unification Wars in the late 30th Millennium that reunified Terra beneath the single rule of the Emperor and forged the government that would become the Imperium of Man. The truth of the matter was far different, for the Thunder Warriors’ fate was bound up in the terrible price that the Emperor proved willing to pay to secure a better future for Mankind.

I’m guessing it’s because he lost weight. Zeal of the covert and all. Anyhoo, it was a weird little shitshow. My wife— who’s passed her step 1 medical boards, the first part of the licensing exams for becoming an MD, and representing all that there book-learnin’, absolutely agreed that talking about being fat as just a choice was about as uselessly oversimplistic as you can get. She also pointed out that timing in calorific intake matters too— some people, if they fluctuate between eating a lot and not eating much at all, will gain weight, and some will lose weight.
So even if one person only ‘needs’ 1600 calories a day, and eats that on average over a month, but actually is eating 2400 calories for a few days and then 800 calories for a few days, he might gain weight if he’s one kind of person, or lose weight if he’s another. So there you have two with the same calorific needs demonstrably not simply following a linear energy transfer to fat, but instead showing the complexities of metabolism and the whole goulash of hormones associated with eating and fat production and everything else related to the subject.

Yep. Plus as I mentioned, eating disorders. People become addicted to food to mediate depression. It becomes a drug more or less. Other factors can include medication such as steroids prescribed for diseases. Pre-disposed genetic factors — yes some are born with “fat genes.” Poverty leads to poor diet and lends itself to obesity.

Hormones are an absolute bitch when it comes to your metabolism. Ask any woman dealing with PCOS about how hard she works to lose weight, even with a healthy diet, exercise, and hormone balancing medications being taken into account. It’s not fun.

And be Lister, not Semmelweis.
My first instinct was to try to remember who Semmelweis was on Red Dwarf

Fabulous.
I saw the original concert in Australia, Paco De Lucia, Al Di Meola and John McLaughlin.
Steve Morse was the support act.
I’m a guitar player, what I remember most was the blurred left hands.

His basic premise was correct, but he tried to make it all encompassing. Why someone is obese (or not) goes far beyond a caloric intake/ burning it off formula
Yep. This is something that there is an entire nutritionist/fitness industry built on - the fact that individuals react sometimes in a diametrically opposed fashion on dietary/exercise regiments. The human body just has too many variables for a one size fits all approach. Even slight changes in body chemistry can cause severe acceleration, or even reversal in weight loss/gain.
