Religious Right Craziness of the Day: Soon the Boy Scouts Will Have a Merit Badge for Cannibalism

Talk show hosts Kevin Swanson and Dave Buehner predicted today that since the Boy Scouts now allow gay members, it won’t be long until they start issuing merit badges for sodomy and cannibalism.

Swanson: Manhood is a problem and the Boy Scouts are going to lead the decline since the final decision came down that the Boy Scouts as a national organization are going to invite homosexuals into the troops.

Buehner: Which is just a matter [of time] until they invite homosexuals, active homosexuals, to be leaders of the troops and pretty soon you’re going to have the sodomy merit badge. Christians are fleeing like rats.

Swanson: And after that I guess it’s incest; after that I guess it’s the cannibal merit badge, where I guess you cut up human flesh, fry it—

Buehner: Cook it in a Dutch oven out in the wilderness.

Swanson: So that’s what the Boy Scouts are doing, they are trying to add abomination on abomination, effectively going into God’s word, trying to find the thing that God really, really, really hates the most. The sins listed in the Bible, going through the lists of sins in the Bible, finding the very worst ones and creating merit badges for them is where the Boy Scouts are headed.

Don’t Girl Scouts already have merit badges for SLUTTINESS and ABORSHUNZ?

Human sacrifice, dogs and cats living together, mass hysteria?

3 alinuxguru  Mon, Aug 19, 2013 11:37:25am

Worst sins in the Bible? Wasn’t the star of the Old Testament sequel talking mostly about hypocrites and planks in eyes?

4 HappyWarrior  Mon, Aug 19, 2013 11:37:41am

Of course these are the rantings of reasonable adults. Honestly even with their change in policy, I still have no desire for my kids should I have any join the BSA. It took them this long and they’re still bigoted against non-believers.

8 erik_t  Mon, Aug 19, 2013 11:39:25am

Wait, the Boy Scouts has a problem with loss of manliness, but cutting strips of your enemy’s flesh, then cooking it and eating it to gain his delicious, delicious courage is the next step?

That doesn’t even make sense. Cannibalism is a bad thing, but it’s sure a manly bad thing.

I’d say that explains a good deal of the batshittery we’ve seen from the hard right over the last few years. They’re unable to adapt to the sociocultural changes that are taking place, and they’re attempting to form a reactionary bulwark against it.

It’s not just in the US; you see it also in the UK, Russia, various places around the world.

Kinda sad. The longer this progresses, the more I see the world thru the lens of a Sci-Fi Future Dystopian Novel. People divided into two main groups —the primitives and the moderns. Primitives look for a god-like leader on earth to follow and the Moderns loving science and stuff.

It’s not a pretty picture.

Write it up as a parallel to the Romans bringing in Saxon mercenaries to help defend Britain from the other raiding barbarians. Then you get to shop around for your stand-ins for the Saxons and who eventually gets to be Arthur.

Otherwise, does Canada have the population to properly patrol and defend that whole border?

I think so. I’ve watched a few WWII documentaries over the years and I heard a German radio broadcast that had “The fuehrer heroically dying in his bunker.” I guess telling the German people that he killed his dog and then simultaneous took a cyanide while shooting himself wouldn’t go over. I have a feeling next year will be a snap for the the Dems. And on to 2016.

Both campaigns will be a fatiguingly hard slog against regionalism and metastisizing voter suppression laws.

Fun fact, the Battle of New Orleans in the war of 1812 happened after the war was officially over.

That’s the thing about ceasefires, they take awhile to propagate. Remember reading somewhere about pockets of Japanese soldiers still needing to be cleared out for months after the surrender, refusing to believe that the emperor would throw in the towel.

I wondered about that too. Was the original story that he was killed in action and his suicide only publicized later?

According to original German propaganda report, it went like, “Our Führer, fighting to his last breath against Bolshevism, fell for Germany this afternoon.”

The first American press reports ran off the German media reports - that accounts for the early headlines.

Yep, It’s not going to be easy at all, considering the all out effort by the GOP to suppress and marginalize voters across the country and the RWNJ echo chamber.

I predict the Dems are going to be driving us all crazy and blowing up email inboxes with their constant Get Out the Vote efforts. If they’re smart, they’ll be tenacious about getting people registered to vote and making sure people know when and where to vote, organizing car pools, etc.

Here and in Florida, I expect to be going door-to-door canvassing and helping people validate their ID packages, early enough to get it fixed.

re: #49 Dr Lizardo

I’d say that explains a good deal of the batshittery we’ve seen from the hard right over the last few years. They’re unable to adapt to the sociocultural changes that are taking place, and they’re attempting to form a reactionary bulwark against it.

It’s not just in the US; you see it also in the UK, Russia, various places around the world.

Perpetual moral scold and very concerned person Rod Dreher is shocked! Shocked! to find that gay people will simply refuse to roll over and go back to being jailed and prosecuted by upstanding Christian District Attorneys…allowing for a couple of cute and funny drag queens who know their place and keep the tourists amused at Mardis Gras. I think he has had something like 8 or 9 posts on GLBT subjects just in the last week (The guy is a lot more occupied with my marriage then I am, fer frak’s sake).

Today, he is back in gloom mode and asking if the Benedictine Option (where presumably you pack up like those idiots from Arizona who tried to sail to the South Pacific) needs to be implemented and like minded fer real type Christians should go hide the kids away in a hut on a mountainside near Ruby Ridge, Idaho.

It always comes back to this: If you don’t let me persecute the fags, dykes and trannies…then YOU ARE PERSECUTING ME!

(Last week, he praised Vladimir Putin for defending Orthodox Christian values, but qualifies it as “a cheer and a half for Putin” instead of three cheers. Nuance, you see. Just like that guy who beats his wife and kids is a bit off-putting, but his family looks so nice in public!)

29 years later…

In 1944, Lt. Hiroo Onoda was sent by the Japanese army to the remote Philippine island of Lubang. His mission was to conduct guerrilla warfare during World War II. Unfortunately, he was never officially told the war had ended; so for 29 years, Onoda continued to live in the jungle, ready for when his country would again need his services and information. Eating coconuts and bananas and deftly evading searching parties he believed were enemy scouts, Onoda hid in the jungle until he finally emerged from the dark recesses of the island on March 19, 1972.

Great, now I have Sci-Fi Dystopian ideas of Canada militarizing the border to keep American’s out —because of Climate Change … .

It will really be due to the fact that so many illegal aliens moved up from Central and South America and took over the USofA so Canada will be the next line to hold.

Maybe Ted Cruz can fix that, eh?

Interesting photo. Back then, you’d have wire services so that the evening paper or the scroll in Times Square giving the latest news was the most current news (or radio reports).

Compare that with the OBL news. People were getting that through online sources, and the papers came out the following day.

It’s a whole new world in how news gets disseminated.
