Reminder: The Benghazi Hoax was Spun up by the GOP to Protect Mitt Romney
As Mitt Romney continued to make missteps in his statements on Benghazi, the GOP had to close ranks around him to protect his campaign. It started almost during the attack with Romney slamming Obama over his statements regarding the anti-islamic film that we now know with certainty instigated the attack.
Once their media noise machine got too far down the path it was too late to turn back so they decided to recreate and re-imagine the events which eventually led to a market for the hoax, then the CBS book and Lara Logan’s hoax Sixty Minutes segment.
If you still doubt that the attack against us was treated as campaign fodder from start to finish by the GOP, please see this article from Dave Weigel that shines a blazing flashlight into the pit of the RNC’s insanity.
The situation started Tuesday night, with Romney accusing Obama of sympathizing with anti-American interests in the Muslim world — a common line of attack from the Republican.
But the timing of the statement — in the middle of the ongoing incidents in Libya and Egypt — led to an outburst of criticism that built as the night went on and intensified after Romney reiterated the charge at a hastily staged news conference here Wednesday morning.
“I think it’s a terrible course for America to stand in apology for our values, that instead when our grounds are being attacked and being breached, that the first response of the United States must be outrage at the breach of the sovereignty of our nation,” Romney told reporters. “An apology for America’s values is never the right course.”

Update: Backlash tweets are coming in from the stalker blogs. Once the right spins up one of these kookspiracies it never dies because these far right bloggers have too much invested in their new mythos to let go. Benghazi will become an article of faith among them, and in their twisted history it will be a tale told to scare elders and children. Benghazi will be a horror story used to describe how bad the opposition is, just like that tale that you hear in GOP households during every election since my grandfather’s day about bus loads of illegal immigrants going poll to poll to illegally vote.
