Still looking over the headlines of stories covering the Pew release on data regarding evolution acceptance among Americans.
Few headlines are capturing what I consider the real story - that the acceptance of the Theory of Evolution has not changed in America over 4 years.
What has happened is that the deck chairs have been reshuffled on the good ship America, with the atavists starting to pile up in one particular political party.

So were the ones about vinyl. And hardcover over paperback in the late 1800s.
I will point out that they’re still around. Electronic won’t make paper go away. It’ll just gradually come to dominate that particular market.

My experience is different. When kindles came out I was quite happy to change to them. They’re lighter, can hold several books and can access new books instantly.
When I moved over to a tablet where I could store hundreds of books and music and actually read in the dark (without a flashlight and a blanket) I gave up paper books almost completely.

Oy bouy. Charles you might find this kind of “funny.”
I saw the segment earlier. I guess it was kinda shitty but nothing too outrageous. Of course if it had been Fox news making the exact same comments about a Dem family it would be somehow completely different. All the “gotcha!” outrage misses the big picture for me. This shouldn’t even be on the “news”. I know progressives are still obsessed with Mitt but is that picture really worth airtime on a news station? It’s nonsense and things like this is why I find cable news useless.

I also think it’s shitty that the on air talent is going to have to deliver forced apologies and possibly lose their jobs over this. Stupid commentary and hating Republicans is what MSNBC does that’s why there was a scheduled segment on a picture of Mitt’s black grandson. There was nothing newsworthy about it and what did they expect the on air people to say? It’s like hiring Bashir to spew hate at Republicans, writing a stupid speech, then firing him for reading it off the teleprompter. It’s stupid.

Guess not. I watch these clips sometimes and it finally dawns on me why some people are so deranged about things on Twitter. It’s like they’re punch drunk on the cable programs. Part comedy, part serious. Lots of giggling and focus on useless information. There’s a lack of seriousness and no organization to the programming. It begins with Morning Joe. I spent 3+ hours on the phone with Comcast today trying to hammer out issues related to my recent move. They charged me $100 to send someone over to my new pad to transfer my service…but that price didn’t include the information that I would be getting a brand new account, including a new user name needed to access voicemail etc. online. When I suggested that being unable to use my voicemail for a whole week entitled me to a little price relief, the nice lady told me that this was a free service Comcast provides and is not part of what I pay for phone service!

Heh. Can’t go quite that far. He’s a great but I think I’d go with pre-crazy Heinlein or David Brin for my fav.
But we got into a hell of a great discussion between me, my wife & our soon to be 12 year old over his description of the Chiba City sky at the start of Neuromancer. He was rather boggled to realize he’d be one of the last to understand the idea of “snow” as it was used there from first hand experience.
It was almost as good as explaining the line in “Johnny B Goode” about
“Strumming to the rhythm that the drivers made”. In this case the driver is not another name for the engineer (sigh) but rather the big steel slab that connects the wheels to the cylinders of a steam engine sliding back and forth in a stable 4/4 rock beat.

DTV is ok. But we only used TV. I’ve got friends who willingly switched back to ATT from DTV bundles and others that liked their bundles. YMMV seems to be the takeaway.
Around here it’s Charter or CenturyLink. Century is tolerable and better than giving any cable company a dime.

I had Dish for quite a while before they finally ran cable where I live, then I switched in a heartbeat. Biggest reason is that with a dish when the weather gets bad, especially thunderstorms, you lose reception. There is nothing worst than to hear “Tornado Watch… Tornado Watch… Beep Beep … DEAD SILENCE … Satellite signal lost”. They all try to suck you in with great rates for a limited time, and dish was big on 240 channels. Well, I really don’t need 34 spanish language, 7 shop-at-home networks, 9 religious channels. Same thing on Cable.
I’ve got basic cable pack that gets me discover, A-E, Nat Geo, the rest. Didn’t go for HBO, Showtime, etc. If it’s out there, I can stream it free from *somewhere*.
