Video: Megyn Kelly’s Softball Interview of Michelle and Jim Bob Duggar
Maybe the most horrible thing about this horrible interview: they claim the girls molested by Josh Duggar “didn’t know that anything happened.”

It doesn’t matter if the girls knew or not, this isn’t about them, this is about the mental state of Josh when he fondled them. That he did it when they were asleep just means he knew it was wrong.

The good doesn’t erase the bad, and the bad doesn’t erase the good. That bit about “is this the math you do as a Republican to make yourself feel better?” remains on-record as a evergreen source of entertainment.

The fact that these disgusting freaks are on television giving their rehearsed sob story instead of serving time for covering up their son’s felonies is sickening.
The Duggars should have automatically lost custody of their remaining minor children after it was revealed that they’d covered up for their oldest son’s molestation of his sisters. They’re clearly unfit to take care of children.
They spent more time breeding for Jesus instead of raising the kids they were popping out like PEZ candies. Maybe if they’d actually been parents instead of breeders their son wouldn’t have molested his four younger sisters.

Even so, if the State of Texas can kill this POS they can kill others. The state is utterly corrupt and they cannot be trusted with that kind of power. Even if they were not corrupt they are not infallible. Better to have let the old bastard rot in prison till he shuffles off to hell on his own.

Hello and good night. I see that the Duggars managed to show the rest of the world just how awful they are.
I’m really hoping that something comes out that there can at least be some kind of legal proceedings brought against them. Probably too much to hope for. Perhaps the family of the child that wasn’t his sister will file a civil suit, but given the insular nature of that particular sub-sect of Christianity, it’s highly unlikely.

Rarely is the iceberg metaphor more accurate than for something like this. Extreme patriarchal religious cults are pretty much always chock-full of rape, child abuse and child sexual abuse.
Edited to add: Furthermore, these cults also do a great deal of damage with their ‘teachings’ that women are lesser beings, even in cases where no crime is committed.

Where is all that “spare the rod” crap fundies invoke when they get caught beating children? Why didn’t Jim Bob beat the shit out of the little pissant? I’m not endorsing corporal punishment, mind you but there is no doubt at all that the Duggars themselves support it.
I just see this as yet another glaring inconsistency in fundy standards.
He ran on capital punishment for child molesters too. Not that I advocate that but it’s funny how the rhetoric differs from the reality where it took him long to even bother contacting the police.

Here’s a thought exercise: would Fox be expending all of their airtime and resources if the Duggars were not white?
Chew on that one.
Gutfield had a stopped clock moment earlier today by asking aloud if conservatives would be defending the Duggars if they were Muslims and members of CAIR. I think we all know that the answer is no, they wouldn’t have even agreed to the idea of them having a TV show. All-American Muslim proved that wingnuts will not abide any program that shows Muslims in a positive light.

Possibly - if it suited their need to make a “christian persecution” case. After all, look how much support they give to certain GOP presidential candidates.
But the damage level for “cut and run” would be far lower.
Now off to work. Later lizards.

Retweeted. I’d been prepared to grant Jim Bob Duggar some sympathy when this first came out, but his performance tonight has convinced me he deserves none. His primary concern was to keep his son out of trouble, and at he pursued that goal at the expense of his daughters. That is not the action of a good and loving father; It is the action of a man who values appearances and his ‘heir’ above all else.
I will, however, continue to have sympathy for the Duggar children other than Josh, since they’ve been trapped in a system not of their design.

The children in this whole fucked up quiverfull of arrows we all know as the Duggar family are the ones I feel for the most. For the same reason you describe (system not of their own design) and more - they’ve been robbed of their minds, the beauty of free inquiry and self-expression, and in the cases of molestation, their sexuality and sense of security as well.
The whole thing is really quite disgusting. And I’m not really seeing a circling of the wagons, as it were.

All-American Muslim got shit-canned by TLC after a single season because the wingnuts went nuts over the idea of a TV series that portrayed Muslims in a positive light and scared advertisers into pulling their ads from the show.
Then they yanked the plug on Here Comes Honey Boo Boo within hours of pictures of the mother in the company of an ex-boyfriend who’d gone to prison for child molestation going public.
But 19 Kids has been on the air for 10 seasons and the most that TLC has done in light of the Duggars basically admitting that Josh was molesting his own sisters is pull reruns from their TV schedule until further notice.

A ton of good fundie Christians have been going on about their disgust with Bruce becoming Caitlyn Jenner.
I wonder how they are going to deal with the disgust of their own in this case. Jenner is not hurting anyone.
Here they were worried about LGBT people turning into creepy molesters and look what you have in your own home. Actual deviancy. Yes deviant. Like the deviant ‘devil’ found in fundie thinking.
And if it is being hinted this happens a lot in these types of Quiverfull families, then we are getting into the whole issues the Catholic church has had with pedophile priests. Acceptance and long looking the other way.
This is not going to go down easy.
The fundies think trans women are part of the general deviancy of America. See, if Caitlyn Jenner wasn’t having dirty thoughts about being a wimmin folk, Josh would never have touched his sisters.

Well, the Duggar’s sole remaining political friend managed to slather on the creepsauce regarding Caitlyn Jenner (Yes, I know its NRO, but it’s hard to say this one better):
Hey Huckabee — Maybe Don’t Suggest That You’re a Sexual Predator
The debate over whether or not people should be able to pick which bathrooms and locker rooms they use based on their self-reported gender identity often centers around one issue: whether or not it would put the girls in these spaces at risk.
Those against the idea argue that if all a man had to do was simply say he identified as a woman in order to gain access to these spaces, voyeuristic sexual predators would have license to spy on all the naked girls they wanted — leaving the girls with no defense against these kind of terrible people.
Those in favor of the policy, however, maintain that it’s ignorant and offensive to associate the transgender community with the kind of people who would engage in such despicable behavior. They’re just trying to pee!
Now, notice that both sides accept the same premise: A man who would pretend to be a woman to look at innocent girls naked is a bad person.
So just one question: Why on earth would Governor Huckabee think it was a good move to suggest, even jokingly, that he is one of these people?
Bolding mine. Seriously, saying shit like that makes me wonder if his standing by the Duggars has an additional, even worse, dimension to it.

InTouch isn’t always concerned with accuracy, as seen in their recent bit of stupidity about Caitlyn Jenner’s youngest daughter Kylie being pregnant. So it is possible they reported something without fact-checking in their rush to scoop the competition. Wouldn’t make Jim Bob or Josh Duggar stop being shitbirds, of course.

Burt Lancaster’s character just cannot rid himself of the evil in his soul, and watching Ben Trane (Gary Cooper) having to gun down his friend (and seeing the anger and sorrow in his face) in wrenching…and then you see the aftermath of the Juarista attack on the French fort with hundreds of bodies strewn about and the women coming to search for their dead husbands.

And to give their CEO a raise to $156,000,000.
A possible solution:
I know, I know, the RWNJ media will have a field day with the “socialist” label. I think Sanders should take that label and rub their faces in it. It might be a chance to educate the public about what the word really means, correcting decades of RWNJ misinformation and abuse. There are indications that he intends to do exactly that.
To really rub their faces in it, he should get an armored train like Strelnikov’s in Doctor Zhivago. To further educate the public, he could arm it with actual class 3 licensed machine guns to emphasize his support for real (as opposed to NRA guano) gun rights.

Further details on Gothard’s (a guru of the Duggar cult) revolting views at DKos dailykos.com
A sample:
According to Benner, students at Gothard’s Advanced Training Institute were actually trained to see if there were ways a victim was responsible for being assaulted. One way is if you somehow “defraud” your assailant by dressing or acting in a way that stirs up lustful thoughts in the attacker. According to Recovering Grace, a group of Gothard refugees who helped expose him as a serial harasser and molester last year, it’s theoretically possible for a woman to defraud a man just by tossing her hair.
Another way is if you do something to put yourself outside the protection of your father. According to Gothard, as long as your father has no sin in his life, nothing can happen to his wife or children. However, if you sin, you open yourself up to evil. So if you’re sexually assaulted and your father did nothing wrong, supposedly you brought it on yourself by being outside his protection.
Honestly, this shit makes me seriously consider putting certain cults outside the boundaries of first amendment protection.

I know, I know, the RWNJ will have a field day with the “socialist” label.

There’s not enough Maxim Model 1910 and Colt Model 1895 MGs available in the US to outfit a Russian Civil War-era armored train. I’m a real politic guy, I know what can and can’t be done in the electoral process.
I’m in sort of a unique position, though, in my fevered Satan-driven mind. The first election I ever voted in (age 18) was the year 2000. I voted yea for Amendment 20, which made medicinal cannabis legal in the state of Colorado. It passed. Everything else I voted for on that ballot went the opposite of what I voted for. But I remembered that victory, always will.
I became part of the grassroots (pun intended) of cannabis legalization for a time in the early aughts. I helped get enough valid signatures to get outright legalization on the Colorado ballot twice, in ‘04 and ‘06. ‘06 was a heady time, as we got a lot of money to try and pass the law - at this time entitled Amendment 44. I was handing out t-shirts at Red Rocks that summer and registered I-don’t-know-how-many-people to vote. Amendment 44 did not pass in 2006.
I gave up on the activism after that, just continued to do the word-of-mouth stuff. Fast-forward to 2012, with Amendment 64.
Cannabis enthusiasts! Come to Colorado! It’ll BLOW YOUR MIND!

Carefully scripted lives: My concerns about the Duggars
And another article that addresses one specific aspect of their micro-culture: But They Look So Happy!
When I persist in using terms like “curation” and “narrative,” its not because I’m a fussy academic, but because it the best way to encapsulate this social activity of picking and choosing what you present, and to what end.
The Duggars curate their behavior to put a good face on their lifestyle, because they’re proselytizing. TLC further curates the Duggars to trim off any objectionable or distinct features of their insular religous culture. So what does the audience see?
(I am, however, a fussy autodidact.)

CNN reports that conservative activist Pamela Geller was the target of a beheading plot by Boston terror suspect Usaama Rahim, who was killed by police on Tuesday. Geller organized the “Draw Muhammad” cartoon contest in Texas, where two Muslim gunmen were killed. In an interview with CNN on Wednesday, Gellar said, “They targeted me for violating Sharia blasphemy laws. They mean to kill everyone who doesn’t do their bidding and abide by their law voluntarily. This is a showdown for American freedom. Will we stand against this savagery or bow down to them and silence ourselves?”

I hope folks notice the word “Amendment” in this comment of mine. Amendment 64 was passed with over 55% of the vote in Colorado, which effectively legalized cannabis for sale and use by adults. It’s an amendment to the Colorado state constitution, law of the land.
We also have a constitutional amendment - colloquially known as the TABOR bill, or “Taxpayers Bill of Rights”, passed in the heady 90s - that requires a popular vote for tax increases, which has predictably led to awful shortfalls for municipalities without huge tax bases.
Ah, Colorado. Wouldn’t have it any other way. I’ll be here always, tip your server.

A truly bizarre hill upon which to die, TLC.
Hey, they kept “Welcome to Myrtle Manor” on for three seasons, after three of the “stars” got arrested in one weekend during Season 1—1 of them for criminal sexual assault with a minor.
(He was off after that season, but the show went on.)
I guess because it was a show about scumbags for scumbags, it was OK—(they added Trailer Park to the title later on.)
Oh, and he just got sentenced a few months ago—got off pretty easy with probation.
Welcome to TLC

That was his original plan, but then he decided to be an even bigger shithead and go after police officers:
(CNN)Usaamah Rahim, who was fatally shot after waving a military knife at law enforcement officers in Boston, was originally plotting to behead Pamela Geller, an activist and conservative blogger, law enforcement sources told CNN on Wednesday.
But Rahim, a 26-year-old security guard who officials believe was radicalized by ISIS and other extremists, decided instead to target the “boys in blue,” a reference to police, according to court documents.
“I can’t wait that long,” he said of the original beheading plan, according to an FBI affidavit filed in federal court in Boston.

What was that guy’s name again?
I’m wondering if he was buds with Jim Bob…
I had read a while back that there was some interaction between the Duggars and Justin Harris through some church (can’t remember the name). And Harris continues to operate his Christian Pre-school (with mostly tax dollars.)
And here’s how legislators in Arkansas have reacted to both:
A Republican state legislator, Justin Harris, a daycare operator, has admitted an act that would now be a felony in fobbing off child to the home of a sexual predator. Another former Republican legislator, Jim Bob Duggar, star of a TV show, failed to report repeated incidents of child molestation in his own home, though he and his wife have led a campaign to demonize gay people as child molesters.
Reaction? Not a single Republican colleague has chastised either Harris or Duggar. Indeed, Republicans have risen to defense of both men. One condemned the Arkansas Times to hell for writing about the Harris “rehoming” case.

Yeah, I noticed that too: old Jim Bob seems to have added self-righteous entitlement to his roster of rather obvious personal flaws: while bitching about how his family shouldn’t be “punished”, he seems to take it for granted that they (all) should somehow be rewarded ; just for being their own smarmy loved-by-Jesus selves, I suppose.

I always thought it was Clarence Darrow. Anyway, good luck, Cheechako. I know a couple of people who’ve had that done, with good results.
You’d actually be correct and I’d be wrong. It’s often attributed to Twain but it turns out it was Darrow, another person from that era I admire.

Yeah……..for me, I’d want that opportunity to tell her, “Yep. A Muslim just saved your hide. So……live with that.”
That reminds me. I remember Herman Cain freaking out if he had a hypothetical Muslim doctor and I immediately thought about the doctor who performed my cornea surgery. I am not positive she’s Muslim since there are a lot of Arab Christians out there but I just thought about that whenever I hear people freaking out about Muslims.

Thanks for the good vibes. I had my right knee replaced 7 years ago and I felt great. But , for the last 6 months, I’ve been gimping around with some pain. Good ol’ osteoarthritis from all the hill climbing I did in my wildland firefighting days. The key to success is to follow the PT regime. Tough at times, but worth it for the results.

Strike levels huge Iraq car bomb factory in blow to IS
Kirkuk (Iraq) (AFP) - An air strike in the Iraqi town of Hawijah completely levelled one of the Islamic State group’s largest car bomb factories, causing heavy casualties and extensive destruction, officials said.
The blast caused by the strike and the destruction of explosive material was heard as far as Kirkuk, a city under Kurdish control that lies 55 kilometres (34 miles) away.
Iraqi officials said the strike was carried out by a US-led coalition, which has defended its 10-month air campaign against IS despite a number of recent advances by the jihadists in Iraq and Syria.
The facility, which included tanks, Humvees and large quantities of explosives, was “the biggest factory in Iraq and Syria”, an Iraqi colonel said.
Mohammed Khalil al-Juburi, the deputy head of the Kirkuk province security committee, confirmed details of the attack, which took place early on Wednesday.

This isn’t the turning point, but what it will do is decrease the ability of Daesh (ISIS) to build and deploy one of their most effective weapons at the very time that weapons have arrived in quantity to enable the forces loyal to the Iraqi government to destroy Daesh’s supersized VBIEDs. And that should give those forces a chance to make some gains and put those Daesh bastards back on their heels.

well perhaps it’s time for a summation….
1) Josh Duggar molested not just one of his sisters, but 4 of them AND a family friend.
2) Mom and Dad KNEW
3) They used their position to:
a) not have any charges brought against their son
b) do nothing for those affected, neither the girls or Josh himself got counseled or treatment
4) the Network that airs the show is allowing the Production company to run interference for them instead of simply cancelling the show, because of “profits!”
5) because of the audience for that show also happens to identify with the GOP because of their roots in Fundamentalist Christianity, the Quiverfull movement and the entire home schooling is better because we’re moral and ethical….because who needs the government because we’re Christians….RW media circus has circled the wagons which has led to:
a) Christians are being “persecuted”
b) we’re the real victims here, thanks to the police report “leakage”
c) a really creepy TMI moment from Mike Huckabee
6) A national television Network attempts to “tell” the Parents side of the story in an obviously scripted reality TV unknowing parody because of #5 and attempts to provide their base audience with the appropriate soothing tones to assure them that they are the epitome of Christian ideals while glossing over the fact that a crime has been perpetrated by:
a) Josh Duggar for molesting the girls
b) the parents for covering it up
c) the local authorities for going along
and now they wonder what’s so important about 6a, 6b and 6c because they’re Christians and they know that God has forgiven them for their sins.
that about sum it up?
makes you nauseous doesn’t it?

The other day, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, the “caliph” (snort) of Da’esh, Tweeted out that it was OK for Da’esh members to have sex with young boys if girls weren’t available.

Obviously most have come to the conclusion that the Duggars come off worse with this interview than if they had just faded into obscurity, never to be heard from again. So taking that as a given, based on what I’ve read it seems moreover like they have clearly told many easily refutable lies in this interview, directly at odds with what has been reported based on the obtained records. Such as
1. Josh came to us to confess;
2. The girls didn’t know anything had happened to them;
3. Touching was just on top of clothes;
…
Etc. etc. So they’re not only showing no humility or remorse with this interview, they’re not only defending their horrible mishandling of the situation, they’re moreover flat lying through their teeth in an attempt at damage control, yes?

I quite agree - this kind of insanity is all-too-often found in cults/sects of an extremely conservative or patriarchal/traditionalist nature.
Of course, not all cults are like that……Raëlians are pretty far from being extremely conservative. But they’re certainly quite wacky, to say the least. But then again, I guess most UFO religions would likely fall into the “zany” category.

This is absolutely disgusting. These people are such throwbacks, uneducated, ignorant, interested only in fucking and making money from it. None of their kids are educated worth a shit for a modern world, either, yet they manage to get well paying jobs continuing to rip off the rubes in those “christian” orgs that push the same agenda. These are the same people, with some being a bit more educated beyond HS, that are filling the legislatures in many states and making laws that affect every single person in their states.
It doesn’t take much except a twisted mind to be able to live this kind of life. To make money, lots of it, just integrate this kind of “christianity” into your entire life and sell it and the other ignorati will buy it hook, line and sinker. You can do their “thinking” for them so they don’t have to suffer with it.
No doubt the daughters have been as brainwashed to think their molestation by their brother is no big deal. I don’t expect them to think much of it, as is apparent in this interview. Daddy is boss, and don’t you forget it. BTW, did anyone notice that Michelle Duggar has a voice like a 10 yr old? Yeah, that’s petty, but it doesn’t surprise me that someone who wants the world to see her as some kind of “innocent” breeder would incorporate that kind of voice. And as far as the girls actually “forgetting” those incidents?
Well, it’s been 60 yrs now and I still remember the 18 yr old “christian” friend of the family who attempted to go straight for my genitals when I was 14 and innocently thought I was going to the drive in with a couple of other people to actually watch a movie. At that point in time, in 1955, I hadn’t even kissed a boy and stupidly thought I would be OK with the brother of the woman my uncle was marrying. All of them were “christians” and when I told my grandmother, it just added to her hatred of that family, and it just blew over. I hate to say it, but I think she was more concerned about the well-being of her son, who she thought was being seduced by the mother of the woman my uncle was marrying.
This is the atmosphere of the 50s—boys valued, girls were on their own to fight their own battles and to “get over it”.
The guy who tried to molest me? Became a big wheel in the local Salvation Army.

You know the boy was 14 and for the human male this is when they are getting sexually active and getting urges that are extremely hard to control, josh was a child himself so how does a Christian blame a child for this, what happened to forgives, not to mention if he only touched them then their is no long term mental anguish. Now if he tried to have intercourse then that could be traumatizing. intercourse and touching are different, and kids don’t make good decision.

But I don’t think these parents did absolutely nothing. They dealt with it, privately. It may not have been the exact right thing to do, but people should try and put there selves in other people’s shoes, before they start throwing rocks.
And this may be controversial, but he didn’t rape anybody. He was a 14 year old kid who touched a couple of pussies. It was the wrong thing to do, and he told his parents. Do you really think he would have gone to jail, or that jail would be the right place for him?
(emphasis added)
264 | Justanotherhuman Jun 4, 2015 3:45:23am |
re: #261 Rev_Arthur_Icantbreatheing
How can you possibly give individualized attention, much less as a collective, to those kids? As I understand it, the older ones were responsible for “raising” the younger, and doing the housework and other chores. The only “education” given these kids was indoctrination. Then, a way to be more financially “secure” for the parents and to grift from the public was to get a reality show. And they’ve played that to excess. At one point early on, HS graduate Jim Bob boasted about having so much income he didn’t have to work and could stay home, which of course, he really didn’t except to act as majordomo over the entire enterprise.
This isn’t teaching responsibility so much as it’s exploiting your own children who have no real freedom to be kids and explore their own dreams, get a good education, and be a truly free person with one’s own ideas of how to live.

Jim Bob #Duggar: “The girls [Josh abused]… didn't know anything had happened because they were asleep.” #KellyFile pic.twitter.com/YlBZhy7gn5
— Fox News (@FoxNews) June 4, 2015
They knew. They knew Josh abused his sisters, and they did nothing. They didn’t get him proper counseling. They didn’t contact the police in a timely fashion (a criminal act). They didn’t seek counseling for their daughters.
They did nothing.
That makes them as bad as Josh, because they abetted his abuse and then buried all the details so that they could go about their own lives procreating and adding to the litter of kids that they are clearly unable to properly parent and care for. If you think I’m being harsh, just remember what Children’s services will do if and when they find that a parent doesn’t address abuse within the family. Just remember what happens when Childrens’ Services doesn’t take away a kid from an abusive situation and bad things happen to the kid.
The Duggars did nothing, and their daughters were repeatedly abused by Josh. There’s no amount of prayer that absolves them of the criminality that they allowed under their roofs.
There’s no amount of prayer for the pain and suffering that they needlessly heaped upon the daughters who did nothing wrong, but were treated as though they did - that it was somehow their fault - that they tempted their brother to sexually abuse them. Blaming the victim.
And those that defend these people? They too are more than willing to blame everyone but Josh and his parents for this. They would rather blame the media for shining the hot light on the abuse and coverup. They’d rather blame liberals than a bunch of hypocrites who were always blaming someone else - Teh GHEY! - for all manner of abuse, when they covered up a massive amount of sexual abuse - abuse under their own roof.

WTFITS
Revoke Caitlyn Jenner’s Olympic medals.
Dear International Olympic Committee,
It has recently come to light that gold medalist Bruce Jenner is in fact transgender, and therefore, identifies as a woman. We congratulate Ms. Jenner on these new developments and wish her the best. However, this creates somewhat of a problem as Ms. Jenner (as talented as she is) claims that she has always believed herself to be truly female, and therefore, was in violation of committee rules regarding women competing in men’s sports and vice versa. Therefore, it is with a heavy heart that we must ask whether or not it is proper that Ms. Jenner should retain her olympic records in light of this, as we must now either claim that Bruce Jenner and Caitlyn Jenner are two entirely different people (which we know is not true), or that Bruce Jenner was, in fact, a woman participating in a men’s event. It is only fair to all involved that women receive their credit as champions of the Decathalon and that the men racing Ms. Jenner are not expected to compete with a superior, streamlined being such as herself.

Does anyone else think this has reached a level of hysteria and excessive Schadenfreude, due to a political agenda? He was an adolescent, uninformed due to his nutty upbringing, and he did some groping (ok, they could be lying about that, but I don’t think so). If it was rape, that is a different matter, but it appears he was experimenting, a bit desperately given that he was completely ignorant of the birds and the bees and full of new feelings - he was horny and couldn’t control himself.

This made me so angry:
Plaintiff In Jewish ‘Gay Conversion’ Suit Tells Of Therapy Methods
Jersey City, NJ - One of four plaintiffs who sued a nonprofit that promised to turn them from gay to heterosexual wept on the witness stand Wednesday as he described cutting off contact with his mother after being told she was the cause of his homosexuality.
Benjamin Unger also described for jurors an exercise in which he was encouraged to take a tennis racket and repeatedly beat a pillow, meant to symbolize his mother.
“I had a gash in my hand” from taking so many swipes with the racket, Unger said.
The four men sued Jersey City-based Jews Offering New Alternatives for Healing in 2012 under New Jersey’s consumer fraud laws, claiming the group violated state consumer fraud laws by characterizing homosexuality as a mental disorder and claiming it could successfully change patients’ sexual orientation.
The plaintiffs say they underwent treatment that included being told to spend more time naked with their fathers and participating in role-playing in which they were subjected to anti-gay slurs in a locker room setting.
The group’s attorney said during his opening statement Wednesday that even the plaintiffs’ experts will testify that its methods are commonly used by therapists and that some patients have reported successful experiences.Three of the four plaintiffs were young men from Orthodox Jewish families, plaintiffs’ attorney David Dinielli said, who were grappling with their sexuality in a culture in which “there were no gay people” and there was pressure to marry and have children. The fourth, Michael Ferguson, is a Mormon who sought out JONAH.
“My clients needed help but JONAH lied and JONAH made it worse,” Dinielli told jurors. “All they got was junk science and so-called cures.”

It’s about what I suspected. Too many reasons for them to do into full-denial mode and attempt to bury or ride things out. And their surrounding community/advisers/friends are abetting that approach.
At this point I also think the parents are in Paterno-land in terms of the actual events. The story of the daughters “not knowing” is their band-aid for denying any damage to them (or their neglect in that regard), and also simplifies the issue to just dealing with Josh. That these happenings corresponded with Jim-Bob’s political career and getting the TV show off the ground would just be more motivation to cover-up and deny.
And unless they are complete empathy-less scum they have to bury this and pave it over with thoughts of God’s forgiveness. Otherwise they would have to face up to the massive hypocrisy and lies of their lives for the past decade plus.
And given the patriarchal nature of this clan this gets laid at the feet of Jim-Bob. Some pity for the wife, but she also has apparently accepted being a subservient breeder without any thought of challenging unethical and harmful actions. And that is giving her maximum benefit of the doubt.

Then a bit later, I heard another report where I think it was the Boston Police Chief said Geller wasn’t really a target, more a fantasy by Rahim. It almost sounded like he didn’t want to give her any credit for being a shit-stirrer. Seems the police know about her and aren’t big fans.

I found out on NPR earlier that McCrory will sign a bill in NC that contains a 3 day waiting period for abortions. Fuckers.
(snip)
The House initially approved the abortion measure in April. It also requires doctors who perform an abortion when the fetus is more than 16 weeks old to transmit ultrasounds to the Department of Health and Human Services in Raleigh so state officials could determine whether anyone was violating the ban on abortion following 20 weeks.
However, the Senate combined the bill, now titled the Women and Children’s Protection Act, with several criminal law provisions, such as cracking down on sex offenders who commit crimes in other states and then move to North Carolina and making it easier for women to seek legal protection from domestic violence.
Rep. Mickey Michaux, D-Durham, used a parliamentary maneuver to try to sever the non-abortion portions from the bill and allow the House to take two votes, but members defeated that effort 47-68.

Texas House Proposal Would Force Women to Carry Non-Viable Fetuses to Term
Rep. Matt Schaefer (R-Tyler) put forward an amendment that would make it illegal to terminate a pregnancy after 20 weeks, even if a fetus “has a severe and irreversible abnormality,” effectively forcing families with wanted, but unsustainable pregnancies to carry to term at the behest of the state and against the advice of their doctors or their own wishes.
Schaefer said, during debate over his amendment, that suffering is “part of the human condition, since sin entered the world.”

A horrible new PayPal policy opts you into getting robocalls
The payments company is rolling out an update to its user agreement that threatens to bombard you with “autodialed or prerecorded calls and text messages” — and worse, by agreeing to the updated terms, you’re immediately opted in.
PayPal can even reach you at phone numbers that you didn’t provide. Through undisclosed means, PayPal says it has the right to contact you on numbers “we have otherwise obtained.”

How broad is Arkansas law’s language as it relates to child neglect/endangerment?
Arkansas’ child molestation laws apply to anyone over the age of 10 who abuses anyone under the age of 18. So Josh could have been charged with molesting even the older girls.
And there are provisions that apply directly to ‘caretakers,’ which Josh most definitely was. Strike two.
However, the statute of limitations is three years - which is probably the most maddening aspect about this case. While Jim Bob and Michelle were fucking around with ‘stern talks’ and bogus ‘rehabilitation’ (and running for the Senate and negotiating their TV deal), they ran out the clock.
And they knew exactly what the fuck they were doing.

Since we’re still discussing the Duggars, I wonder how much of this abuse stemmed from experimenting with power rather than sex, per se? The titillation would be an added bonus, but also make him feel guilty.
I said a few days ago that as the mother of a son and a daughter, I might well not report my son for a first offense (lifelong sexual predator label, etc.) But he wouldn’t be anywhere near his sister until he could be trusted. Multiple victims over a period of years? I don’t think so.
The only thing I can figure out is that these are people who think that all people are totally evil, and cannot be expected to control themselves. Enter Thomas Hobbes’ Leviathan-or in this case a group of self-selected white guys. Problem is, they can’t control themselves either.

I am not sure. I bet he really didn’t have much knowledge about sex that the average boy of that age would have but I can definitely see it as a power thing since he no doubt saw how his father treated his mother and other females in and outside of the household.

I would too. From what I understand the percentage of Americans who own guns has actually decreased but average guns per gun owner has gone up which makes sense. I think our gun culture disturbs a lot of foreigners and hell it disturbs me too.
The problem is that, even as the percentage of owners has decreased, the political capital of the NRA and the concentrated number of ‘gun owners’ has shot through the fucking roof and made them essentially a political juggernaut, Gun control as an issue is literally dead for at least a generation if not more, and it’s likely only going to get worse. This is some bullshit: Twitter Kills Off Political Gaffe-Tracker Politwoops http://t.co/QscRBx4hnB
— Joe Sonka (@joesonka) June 4, 2015
As more presidential aspirants this week announced their intention to jump into a crowded field of declared 2016 candidates, Twitter effectively shut down a popular service that in recent years has surfaced some of the most memorable gaffes in national politics.
Twitter issued a statement Wednesday to Gawker explaining that it was blocking Politwoops, a project of the government transparency non-profit Sunlight Foundation, from accessing its application programming interface, or API, which gives software developers access to the social media behemoth’s data.
“We strongly support Sunlight’s mission of increasing transparency in politics and using civic tech and open data to hold government accountable to constituents, but preserving deleted Tweets violates our developer agreement,” the statement read. “Honoring the expectation of user privacy for all accounts is a priority for us, whether the user is anonymous or a member of Congress.”

That is not really about just guns, it’s more indicative of lobby/corporate control of our legislature. Big Oil, Big Guns, Big Banks…. That’s why the next President needs to have decoupling corporate power from legislative power on the top two or three agenda items. Jim Bob’s spent time off and on in politics, and he even got Josh betrothed to the daughter of a political ally who called off the wedding when he lost his political bid and had Josh stand up in church to take the blame by having sinned. And, of course, the same time that the police investigation was going on after Oprah’s people blew the whistle, Jim Bob was negotiating a deal with TLC for their show.
This has been, start to finish, all about Jim Bob and the exploitation of his own family for his personal gain.

Yes, after all, she’s a full grown woman who kept on having all those kids she couldn’t take are of without the other ones, no matter how much she kowtowed to Her Lord and Master, JB.
She went into this with her eyes wide open, I have no doubt, and gloried in being a “star”.

Speaking of unions. I went to the Kroger here in Rockwall, TX, and saw that they had a sticker on the door that said union shop. I don’t remember the initials for the union so I can’t tell you what it was, but I was surprised that a union was actually functioning in Texas that wasn’t tied to a government contractor.
The UFCW (United Food and Commercial Workers) represents Kroger’s hourly workers in most, if not all, of their stores.

Of course it’s about Jim Bob…and Jim Bob likes things just his way! Jim Bob wants smiing women to bring him savory tater tot casserole (Dad’s favorite!) and do his laundry, clean his dishes and keep the babies on their blankets just like Bil Gothard has written (so let it be done!)

This latest Geller thing, which is now getting mainstream coverage, reminds me again why I detest fundamentalists of all stripes.
Geller certainly wouldn’t agree with me here, and some of you might not also, but Geller and the alleged guy who was conspiring against her need each other. By hating each other they are validating their own bigotry. One can’t have an enemy if the supposed enemy doesn’t act like one.
This takes me back to GWB and his attempt to moderate his (and perhaps a large number of Americans’) anti-muslim feelings post 9/11 when he would say that not all Islam was behind 9/11 and so forth (which brought him lots of sniping from the hate right.)
But Geller and Spencer and their ilk need the truly radicalized Muslims just as the latter need their enemies to validate their religious beliefs.
And now American media is getting back into the act, featuring Geller et. al.

With the notable exception of Walmart, with whom the UFCW has been locked in a knock-down, drag-out fight to unionize for years and years.
My father was a member when he was employed as a butcher with the now-defunct Rudy’s Farm sausage company (the company was bought in 1990 by Sara Lee, the Nashville plant where he worked was closed, and operations were moved to a new Sara Lee plant in Dyer County) and my grandma (my father’s mom) was in the UFCW with Kroger at the old Nashville Farmer’s Market store for 20-30 years until cancer forced her to retire.

I know what you mean there, and I agree in other cases (know some real well), but Geller and Spencer can make up their enemies and the action of their enemies from whole cloth woven by themselves. There was plenty of thread laying around to work with, all they needed was a post-9/11 atmosphere in which to bray.

Yeah, I’m sure they’ve had it beaten into their heads, not simply by their parents by everybody in the twisted little cult, that they were expected to forgive Josh because “God has forgiven him” and if they wanted to keep their family’s love, they had to put the whole matter behind them.
