On Meet the Press, Trump Says He Understands Why a Conservative Would Attack Planned Parenthood

Incitement in the aftermath of terrorism
Politics • Views: 64,966

MSNBC

Donald Trump went on Meet the Press today, and said some words he knows he’s expected to say: “It’s terrible. He’s a maniac.”

Then he proceeded to say the right wing incitement against Planned Parenthood had absolutely nothing to do with the attack in Colorado, but nevertheless he understands why someone would attack them.

“I will tell you there is a tremendous group of people that think it’s terrible, all of the videos that they’ve seen with some of these people from Planned Parenthood talking about it like you’re selling parts to a car … there are a lot of people that are very unhappy about that.”

This is the Trump style: tacitly (and sometimes openly) condoning violence against his political enemies.

Isn’t it quite telling that Muslims were more proactive in condemning Paris than conservatives were in condemning the Planned Parenthood attack?

In the last 30 days, Governor Greg Abbott threatened to cut off Medicaid payments to Planned Parenthood affiliates in Texas and delivered subpoenas to clinics in Texas, seeking an extensive amount of information, including home addresses for staffers and family members — a point the state has since relented on, Hons said.

Friday’s shooting spree at a Colorado Springs, Colo. Planned Parenthood clinic was not an act of terrorism in the opinion of the House Homeland Security Committee’s chairman.

This is going to keep on happening and Republicans are going to continue to offer empty rhetoric about mental health all the while opposing any efforts to actually do something about it because their ass belongs to the gun lobby. No, gun regulation won’t totally prevent these things from happening but I do feel it could at least decrease them.

No, I’ve been thinking the same too that it would take a tragedy hitting close to home. I hate thinking that way too and I hope it wouldn’t happen but I think that’s the only way we’d get a change of heart. It’s always “Too soon” which I think is unbelievably insensitive to the victims’ families.

It’s an intellectually lazy argument. They don’t want to do the work to see who’s doing more harm; if one side is not pure as the driven snow, then “both sides are doing it.”

53
Reality Based Steve  Nov 29, 2015 • 11:53:19am

If you believe that abortion = murder, then to be consistent you would have to pass laws that any doctor who performs an abortion AND any woman who has one be charged accordingly.

With the exception of some of the most extreme fringe, nobody on the right wants to even discuss that. When you do raise the issue, start to spin, deflect and deny.

That Trump with the pastors thing is really odd. I wonder if he thought he could call a political meeting with them under the guise of a BLM discussion. Then he could show it all in media snippets and self made commercials and make it look like they were endorsing him when all they were doing was giving him a bit of their time to see where it would go.

No, not always. It’s possible to condemn abortion without inciting violence, and many pro-life groups do so. But the ones that don’t get more attention because people naturally pay attention to those things that pose a danger (this is evolution in action).

Every group that equates abortion with murder is inciting violence.

Images of Trump with Black Ministers would be all over.

“They love me. They know I’m Great!”

Dude is a user. People are there to be climbed on or stepped over on the way to the top.

Special Report: Trump’s art of the deal - Dispute your bills (h/t Daily Kos):

The billionaire front-runner to be the Republican candidate in the U.S. presidential race says he sometimes refuses to pay bills from contractors he has hired and then forces them to negotiate the final figure down.

“I’ve had many people that when they work for me they get very rich,” Trump said in an interview with Reuters, but, “sometimes I renegotiate.” Adding: “I’ll do that with probably 10 or 15 percent of contractors.”

The strategy has left some small business owners who have done jobs for him over three decades of real estate deals saying they have felt cheated and don’t want to ever work for him again. In a number of cases they have also faced big legal bills from subsequent court action.

In the last 30 days, Governor Greg Abbott threatened to cut off Medicaid payments to Planned Parenthood affiliates in Texas and delivered subpoenas to clinics in Texas, seeking an extensive amount of information, including home addresses for staffers and family members — a point the state has since relented on, Hons[Jeffrey Hons, CEO of Planned Parenthood South Texas] said.

Well the fact of the matter is since Roe was decided over 40 years ago, anti-abortion movements of all kind have called it legalized murder and likened it to genocide. Oen reason why I realized while I personally opposed abortion, I could never join the political movement to ban it is because that movement is full of hate and likes shouting at women entering these clinics. Are there credible studies out there regarding stochastic terrorism and the results? Are there laws that would apply to this kind of terrorism or is it too tricky to prosecute outright? Because in this case at least, it seems to me that the group that made the PP “expose” videos could be held somewhat accountable. There’s also been an increase in threats and violence towards PP locations since these videos were made public, but I guess you can’t prove cause and effect there, even though it’s freaking obvious. Especially the reactions online and on radio and TV of all the forced birth advocates out there. It’s like a big endless loop of provocation.

What would WE do stop someone from slaughtering helpless children?
A while back I said that I would be willing to personally shoot an attacker to stop him from murdering Pamela Geller. If that is an ethical position in regard to crazy Pam, and it is, how much more ethical would it be if actual babies were the victims?

Re-negotiating a contract sans CO’s driven by client or due to cost changes in precedent is totally not acceptable and cause for us to never work for you again.

If a developer or contractor thinks they can get away with it they will try it. If you’re in too deep on a contract and need that big payment they got you by the bota bag and know in many cases you’ll settle for less because you need that big payment.

The way that Republicans are acting about this act makes me think of the stereotypical cheating housewife who spends every meet-up with her beau moaning about how horrible her husband is and how if he was “out of the picture,” she and her squeeze could run off with all his money and live the good life in some exotic locale. Then, when hubby does wind up dead, screeching to any who will listen that she’s the “victim” because she’s now a widow and throwing her boyfriend to the wolves by insisting that it was all his idea to bump off her husband.

So that’s what he’s been drinking thinking on all night? He inflates himself into an actual journalist, writes as if anybody besides us is paying attention to him*, then tries to ask for money on the grounds that he’s the victim. And all that, without managing to hit F7 once.

When a jihadi blows up a night club or shoots a bunch of folks, wingnuts are quick to scream that the entire ideology that such men follow is rotten to the core, that any who follow it are suspect, and if you don’t condemn it in full then you condone it totally.

But as soon as a white terrorist shoots up a bunch of folks, immediately his actions are not a result of ideology but mental illness, that the ideology that guided him is not at fault, and any who suggest that the people who follow that ideology are suspect are the ones in the wrong.

I’ve gotta admit that I’m rather enjoying watching the wingnuts beginning to realize how sharply the shoe pinches when it’s on the other foot. I only wish no one had been killed or injured in order for it to happen.

Koch brothers’ Libre Initiative to target Wisconsin Latinos

A multimillion-dollar effort aimed at winning over Latinos funded by conservative billionaire brothers Charles and David Koch is looking to expand in Wisconsin.

The Libre Initiative is now hiring a state field director to be based in the Milwaukee area. It will be the first full-time paid staffer the group has had in the state, with the exception of its national spokeswoman — Rachel Campos-Duffy, the wife of U.S. Rep. Sean Duffy (R-Wis.).

“Are you looking for an exciting opportunity to promote free-market principles?” the job description reads. “The Libre Initiative is seeking a Wisconsin Field Director to develop, implement, and manage a statewide outreach strategy to ensure an effective grass-roots operation to support the organization’s vision and mission.”

Libre is a nonprofit organization that promotes economic freedom and small government principles. The group, which was founded in 2011, says its goal is “to empower the U.S. Hispanic community so it can thrive and contribute to a more prosperous America.”

Problem is that they’re not learning anything. In their minds, this is just another “random shooting,” with a “mentally ill” shooter, and the victims are “no angels.” At the same time, they see themselves as victims, that they’re being unfairly accused of being responsible for the shooting with their opposition to abortion and calls for “something” to be done. And the media, in an effort to keep alive this idea that we have two viable political parties, is humoring the idea that the motive of Dear is “unclear” and not taking even two seconds to suggest that all the anti-choice rhetoric had anything to do with setting him on his murderous rampage.

Ahhh - I see where that went wrong. 2 block quotes. Thank Charles for the edit button.

In recent months Rubio has missed a slew of Foreign Relations hearings and classified briefings, records show, aiding his critics.

In January, Rubio missed an intelligence briefing on ISIS and two other classified briefings because he was fundraising in California. In April he missed a closed Intelligence Committee briefing while in Texas raising money. And in September he missed a Foreign Relations hearing on the humanitarian crisis in the Middle East.

All that reading he must be doing…

Muslim taxi driver shot on Thanksgiving in Hazelwood calls attack a hate crime

A Muslim cab driver picks up a man, who starts asking the driver where he’s from. Then the guy gets all worked up about ISIS, even though the driver says he’s from Morocco and hates ISIS. Here’s the kicker:

“So it was this kind of stuff until we got to his destination. He asked me to wait for a little bit because he forgot his wallet in the house. I waited for just five minutes, I think, and I noticed that he came out of the house carrying a rifle in his hand. I noticed him coming toward me. I didn’t hesitate. I [made] a fast decision to leave and drove my taxi away because I felt he was going to do something. There is danger. He would shoot me or something. I felt like he had the intention to kill me.”

The driver said that as he sped away he heard a couple of gunshots, one of which blasted out the back window of his cab and struck him. The incident occurred between Flowers Avenue and Tecumseh Street, and he was able to drive a couple of blocks further to Mansion Street, he said, where he had to pull over. He then waved down a passing car and got someone to call the police.

Someone needs to ask these motherfuckers what they’re going to do about mental health then, because I’m not hearing shit about that either. They do not give a shit. Hell, one of their own got shot (Gabby Giffords) and they couldn’t be bothered to do a thing after that either. Nothing moves these assholes. But it’s funny how Congress is a “gun free zone” isn’t it?

They have new talking points now. They talk about how the real issue isn’t restricting gun ownership, but addressing mental health care. Though if you try and keep that conversation going, such as how that would work, they trip over themselves and can never come up with basic plans. This is because addressing mental health would require unelected people taking away the guns of someone with mental health problems as a preventative measure, and the NRA would never accept that. This way the gun supporters can convince themselves that they have the solutions and the only thing keeping it from becoming reality is the evil liberals and their support of gun control.

And the injury will be coded “workplace violence”. Cab driving is one of the top two or three occupations on OSHA’s watch list.

What’s wrong with that?

Sorry, but Rubio’s a weasel. For example, from earlier this week:

Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) says religious believers are called to “ignore” laws that violate their faith.

“In essence, if we are ever ordered by a government authority to personally violate and sin — violate God’s law and sin — if we’re ordered to stop preaching the Gospel, if we’re ordered to perform a same-sex marriage as someone presiding over it, we are called to ignore that,” Rubio said in an interview with CBN on Tuesday.

“So when those two come into conflict, God’s rules always win,” he added. […]

thehill.com

He’s pandering to the far right Kim Davis type Christians who want to see the Bible dictating law in the U.S. He knows damned well the government hasn’t ordered any Christian to “stop preaching the Gospel” or “perform a same-sex marriage” because the First Amendment says it CAN’T impose things like that.

I loathe that kind of disingenuousness.

God’s law doesn’t trump secular law in the U.S.—ever. Given the number of different religions we have in this country, if it did there would be bedlam.

One thought I did have: I wish we had more Colorado lizards because thinking about those Westboro ghouls is making me worry about PLL. They’re bound to put in an appearance and he’s in Colorado Springs right now. I dread what would happen if he were to catch sight of them, for I fear he’d do something rash.

I’m sure not to worry.

This Colorado lizard will no way in heck go near that town. Nope. Even when I lived on the Front Range, my only trips near Colorado Springs were passing at 70MPH on the freeway, and that was 23 years ago. I’ll take my mellow mountain enclave 4 hours from there…. My biggest dilemma right now is whether or not to get on the road for the 20 minute drive to town to watch the Broncos/Pats game. It doesn’t start for another 2 hours, but, it’s starting to dump pretty good and for the rest of the night. I choose not to have satellite…no cable up this way… wood burner is nice and steady at 400F right now and my dog is crashed out at my side. Maybe I’lll do old school radio but part of me wants to actually, physically see this game. #FWP

I wish I could boast more about ColoRADo in general, but with the PP shooting, the Aurora theater shooting, Columbine, the Chucky Cheese shooting… it’s just hard to comprehend this is MY state over the years.

I actually worked at the restaurant that replaced the Chucky Cheese after the shooting in the 90’s. It was surreal to say the least. I then transferred to LIttleton to manage one of their restaurants there. Most of my employees were Columbine HS students. Suffice it to say, we closed for a few days after the HS shootings as it was just down the street. This all just hits too close to home even looking back over the years.

We all have our shame. For the wild north country, see the public debacle that is Michele Bachmann (R-Mars). Or, for a current event, the ongoing saga of the police shooting of Jamar Clark that spawned the protests which were recently shot up by white supremacist thugs.

A friend just pointed out to me that, after the two cops were shot in NYC during the protests over Eric Garner, conservatives across the country were quick to scream that BLM and any of its supporters had “blood on their hands” because even if the guy wasn’t affiliated with the protests, he was influenced by them and so had killed the cops based upon a “lie.”

But the same people who believed that want to insist that Dear’s actions are not in any way related to their wild-eyed raving about PP and want the blame for his actions to rest solely with him.

Those pastors handed Trump his ass in a public venue. It was totally unexpected. Trump is delusional as hell if he thinks we’re going to go out and vote for him en masse after all of the sh*t he has said about us and LGBT Americans, Hispanic/Latino Americans, Asian-Americans, and others. We’re smart enough to know that if he demonizes us, and them, he’ll demonize some of those in his own party if they dare to disagree with him. I’m not good at walking on eggshells around anyone, least of all Trump. Most Black Americans, myself included, are not infected with Stockholm Syndrome. Oh, some like Trump might think they’re slick, but they’re not. We might not have much to say while they’re attacking us, but we never forget it. The comments of a majority of the 100 black pastors confirm this. They’ve heard the things he’s said, and they had the courage to let him know that they have. He didn’t have many options after their comments went public, which is why he cancelled the public appearance with them. Although many in the MSM are putting up with Trump’s sh*t and are afraid to call him out for it, these pastors aren’t.

So I see that Ted Cruz is pushing that Dear was a transgendered leftist. That guy has no shame whatsoever at all.

Well it is hard to tell by looking at the mug shot of Dear, looking all feminine and shit. I had to ask myself “wow is that a woman?” because really I could hardly tell. The full beard might have given it away in the end.

I’m sorry, CCJ’s ads are grotesque… but they made me burst out laughing at how crude they are. Literally LOL’d. Still laughing.

Think he cancelled the press conference after the meeting (slightly scared that he might get some negative feedback). Private meeting still scheduled but no-one is saying how many are attending

Ah,,, thank you.

re: #347 The Vicious Babushka

Yeah well Ben having a law like that on the books can LITERALLY KILL WOMEN because when an infection or eclampsia threatens a woman’s life, doctors have no time to futz around with court orders.

He’s lying.

Jewish law *requires* abortion when a woman’s life is in danger, it requires abortion if her husband can prove he’s not the father, it’s optional for any reason at all (her decision) until quickening.

STUPIDEST MEME OF THE DAY==>
It is neither “ignorant” nor “irrational” to not want to be shot by a hate crazed idiot

My feelings about these memes:

STOP. FUCKING. POINTING. GUNS. AT. ME. JESUS. CHRIST>111

No respect for portrayals of gun safety anymore. I’m beginning to think the average American gun owner is unworthy of the privilege. Didn’t these people have fathers that taught them not to glorify that kind of shit??

Wow, Chucky just keeps getting more out there. Now he says the Planned Parenthood terrorist “saved lives.”

I like where Chucky says he doesn’t trust off-the-record sources. Does the man posses any self awareness?

Jewish tradition also is that the soul does not enter the body until 30 days after birth.

re: #338 Blizard

I grew up in Colorado and have never left. I was 16 when Columbine happened, it scared the shit out of me and instilled a deep cynicism of humans in general. Fortunately, I’m older and wiser now and am more hopeful than I was in those days.

The next day, 21 April 1999, my high school finally banned students from carrying firearms in their cars.

It was not unusual before that day to see rifles in back windows of pick-ups.
