Kevin Drum posts an update after his Bernie campaign analysis:

My Twitter feed was split almost perfectly in half, and nearly every response fell into one of two categories:

OMG, thank you for finally writing what I’ve been feeling all along.

Another Boomer happy with the status quo. Your generation has been a failure. Stupid article.

There was almost literally nothing in between. Either fulsome praise or utter contempt. I need to think some more before I figure out what to make of this: It’s dangerous to assume Twitter reflects the larger progressive community, but it might be equally dangerous to write it off as meaningless.

He needs to think about the ratios: a lot smaller fraction of the people that are supportive are going to write in than those that are angry. If it’s half and half, the angry part is getting smaller.

Yep. Being in advertising and marketing and having to deal with the internet has taught me way more people will be negative and complain about something than to heap praise.

It has always been like that to a degree, the ‘net just makes it that much easier and as some of the late discussion in the previous thread covered, the ‘net can make the collective appear large.

Repeated measurement has pinpointed the right-wing Crazification Factor™ at 27%. I don’t think anyone has tried to evaluate the left-wing Crazification Factor. The true BernOuts would be a good representation of that—we may get a handle on that figure from this campaign season.

Would not surprise if there was an unrevealed overlap in the groups. So, I’d maybe split some of that 27% off and say it was like 14% - 10% - 14%. The 14% far right and far left with the 10% converging into the truly insane. Overall 38% adding them all up. Too much.

More like a steady 27% crazy, but fluidly shifting RW/LW depending on What’s Happening Now. Since it became a thing, I’d say the RW/LW nutjob modes hovered around 23/4. This implies that some people fall back into sanity.

Just try to keep that cat calm for the 15-20 minutes or so that acupuncturist wants that cat to stay calm. The vet that I’ve been going to for decades offers acupuncture treatments. They’ve been moving towards becoming a boutique pet care facility. I feel like I’m becoming one of their token middle-class clients who has to question how necessary a test or procedure is. When I saw it pop up on Indiegogo I figured I’d give it a spin-it took a while but they finally shipped the units. I need to install some software on a notebook I’ll use to shake things out with as my book collection isn’t all that big and I also have a HP ScanJet 7000dn for sheet-fed paper that I won at a silent auction at work for 1/15th the street price-this beast does 45 ppm, double-sided color scanning up to 600 dpi with onboard OCR to PDF with optional encryption.

I’m trying to get everything I have in analog digitzed. I even picked up the Sony DPT-S1 Digital Paper System as a monster ebook reader-unfortunately it only understands PDF’s but it does have a built-in web browser. Since its e-ink based the thing lasts for ages on a charge (it’s not backlit) and it holds a 32 GB microSD card, plus like I said it supports a slow (but usable) browser for those who deploy WebDAV services. Apparently the DPT-S1 is real popular with attorneys as you can mark up the PDF’s with its built-in stylus and touch-sensitive keyboard. I’ll probably scan my Kindle books using Czur and create my own native PDF’s for reading on it.

We’re going to see a mass shooting at a Trump rally. It’s inevitable: There will be a protest like the one yesterday and some Trumpster will take out his gun and start shooting. How bad it gets will depend on whether, and how many, others join in and whether the police can keep control. The worst case would result in a real massacre, a watershed event in American history.

These YECs are amazing morons. This cult really only began with Henry Morris and Duane Gish in the 1960s—it’s younger than Scientology!

Not very long before that it was pretty much mainstream, so they didn’t have to exert themselves.

Great White Snark  Apr 30, 2016 • 2:44:55pm

The video is amazing. Back when I was training we were all over this book by Yip Man which used B&W pics to show each move in a particular kind of drill on a wooden “dummy”. Bruce lee does the set in one or another of his movies.

So we got it into our heads to use 8mm film to do the same thing. It worked, good training film. Oh man if we only had this going for us.

Fox News will definitely be the channel to watch for returns election night, just to see the wingnut tears as the realization that Clinton has won sets in.

From your mouth, etc. I console myself with the seeming impossibility of Trump outperforming McCain (Did you know John McCain was a POW!!??!!) or Romney. Then I think how many people will ask their friends on election day: “The guy who’s in now—what’s his name again?—is he a Democrat or Republican? Oh, Okay—I guess it’s the Republicans’ turn then.”

“Bill” didn’t commit three genocides on three ethnic groups in his Empire. Abdulhamid II committed what would today be called genocides against the Bulgarians, Armenians, and the Kurds. Not to mention violence on other ethnic groups, and in addition murdered a large number of his family members, as I just found out today.

There are not words in any language to describe the monster that Abdulhamid II was.

I’ve been thinking about Trump debating HRC, and I can see a point in the debate schedule where he flat-out says that he will not show up. He did this for one of the GOP/TP debates when he had a dust-up with Megyn Kelly. If he does pull a no-show, he’ll get away with it because the MSM will permit him to do it. HRC has the facts on her side, and if she hits him with them, I can see him whining, whining, and whining some more about how the moderators asked “unfair” questions, and his supporters will lap it up to avoid acknowledging that she made him look like the political neophyte that he is..

re: #161 Donnie With The Good Hair (AKA Sophist)

If Trump survives the first debate without being rattled by HRC, the MSM will declare him the winner. This has been a given in the last two election cycles. Palin didn’t win the debate with VP Biden in 2008, and the MSM knows it, but because she finished the debate, she was praised as if she had demonstrated a wealth of knowledge on a variety of important topics when she hadn’t. Mark Halperin and some others on the right praised Trump’s foreign policy speech earlier this week even though it was a yuuge nothing-burger according to most foreign policy experts on the left and right. Sometimes I wonder whether those in the media, in general, are hearing the same things I’m hearing from the GOP/TP presidential candidates. To me, it’s a bunch of nonsense, but they treat every word they say as if it’s legitimate. They are also why I no longer watch TV “news” programs, and also why I’m very particular about where I get my political info on the internet.

I can imagine this dude would say he has read and studied the Constitution, but his tweet shows he doesn’t know the definition of treason as stated in the Constitution. Also, with the GOP/TPers having majorities in both houses of Congress, if HRC had actually committed treason, there’s no way they’d pass up an opportunity to impeach her, sooner rather than later. If, before November, they can manufacture something to charge her with, they will do it to harm her chance at becoming #45. Grassley has already flung out the idea that someone in the FBI could “leak” info about her emails when she was Sec. of State. I wouldn’t put it past him to say this several more times and use Fox to do it. It will gain traction on the right, and some on the left will believe that an FBI leak is imminent.

These tools have zero shame. If I’d said some of the things they’ve said about the president, there’s no way I’d show up at any event at which he would be present. If they say he has the cooties, they shouldn’t be trying to sidle up to him at the WHC Dinner or anywhere else because contact with him would definitely give them the cooties, too.

Definite choots-spa.

Sorry to say this, but you should have done two. As you are now discovering, one cat will consistently demand your attention. Having two from the same litter will mean they will play and groom each other before they start to annoy you.

If you’re staiyng on top of keeping the litterbox, another cat isn’t that big of an issue, although ideally you should have a 1:1 ratio of litterboxes per cat (preferably out of the way where the cat won’t get spooked when it does its business.)

The magazines at the checkout have the Prince thing all sorted out: he was murdered, committed suicide and died of AIDS. And there are people who will buy and read all of that crap.

To be fair, there are cats that work best as a single cat in the house. Also, it tends to be somewhat more of a kitten/young cat thing. Older cats get lazier for longer periods.

Actually, it depends on the cat. I have had over a hundred in my career as a cat lady (lots of farm cats), and the needy ones want YOU. I have four now, and one of them (Pita, of the vacuum cleaner, and long black hair) wants me all the time. The other cats do not share her world. She has her paws on my thigh right now, saying ‘mrrrr, mrrr?’ If I say ‘ok’ she is on me immediately, laying across my chest with her tail across the keyboard. The others have spots in the house where they demand attention, but my desk is one of her spots, and the others better not interfere with her begging.

I would attribute it mostly to one being extremely unselfish and the other being an extremely selfish individual. It appears to me that VP Biden really meant he’d be a public servant when he decided to make politics his life’s work, and based on his record, that is exactly what he’d done. He has never forgotten that his raison d’etre is to pull himself up mostly by his bootstraps, then loan his bootstraps to the next, then, the next, and the next, etc., on down the line.

The night I saw him, I waited for him to come out of the venue (he’s been one of my heroes since ever), and as he came out, everyone started yelling ‘James! James!’, trying to get an autograph.

My brother in law was a DJ in the soul days and Knew him, and told me if I wanted to get his attention, I should call him ‘Mr. Brown.’ He got by me, and I called out ‘Mr. Brown!’, and he stopped, said hello and shook my hand (with white gloves on - Mr. Brown is a germophobe).

And he gave me an autograph, which I cherish right along with my Les Paul autograph.

And, yeah - that clip is the shit. That band was top fucking shelf. I’m so sorry I never laid out the dough to see His Royal Badness.

You’re being a bit harsh, Charles. Don’t forget, the press also does some very incisive PANIC NOW!!! reporting, and spring into action every time a perky blond child needs rescuing from a well.

Oh, and covering handicapped vets struggling to overcome their battle scars with the help of their perky blond wives. Peabodys all around, people!
