Video: Donald Trump Suggests Shooting Hillary Clinton

Dangerous incitement from the Republican candidate
Politics • Views: 48,149

Speaking today in North Carolina, Republican candidate Donald Trump started ranting about Hillary Clinton “abolishing the Second Amendment” (which she isn’t going to do, of course — no president can do something like this unilaterally as Trump seems to think), Trump actually suggested that someone might have to shoot Hillary Clinton to stop her from nominating liberal judges to the Supreme Court.

Watch the white-haired guy in the red shirt to Trump’s left, as Trump makes this outrageous comment. He knew exactly what Trump was suggesting.

Someone should alert the Secret Service about this… oh wait. They’re standing right there listening to him say it.

Hillary wants to abolish, essentially abolish the Second Amendment. By the way, if she gets to pick, if she gets to pick her judges — nothing you can do, folks. Although the 2nd Amendment, people, maybe there is, I dunno.

[Applause and whistles from audience.]

Yeah, for a short second, I thought maybe his stupid supporters didn’t know what he meant, then I saw the red shirt guy’s reaction. He knew.

I wake up too early some days, especially if I have a lot on my mind. I woke up way too early once last week, and as I described to Mr. w, ‘First I checked the news to make sure Hillary wasn’t dead’. He said, ‘Whoa.’

I don’t want to say there’s a lot riding on this, but it ain’t just sleep.

The first amendment isn’t quite that absolutist, but arresting a presidential candidate would be hard under any circumstances, but it’s infinitely harder with the executive being run by the Democrats. Imagine the shit that would fly if the FBI arrested Trump.

I worry about bombings and individual murders when she’s elected. Trump’s followers are as scary as he is. And they are armed, pissed off and lack empathy. Not a good combo. I know I’ve said it before, but I expect to see another OKC type event. And what really scares me are our neighbors and family members who are so scared of some “liberal menace” that they decide to just take out people they either know is liberal or suspect it.

That right there is what makes this shit so dangerous. Motherfucker needs to STFU about this shit and get back to pretending he knows how to run a business.

I wouldn’t be entirely surprised, TBH. After all, the GOP’s means of “legal” voter suppression are being torpedoed one-by-one by the courts.

That would represent the ultimate in voter suppression. Literally killing voters.

No sane person would do this but I think Trump is carrying out the following threatening “negotiation” with the USA: “You think things will be dangerous if I’m elected??? I’m here to tell you they will be dangerous if I’m not!”

I suspect this is Trump lashing out in anger after those 50 security experts published their letter condemning his candidacy.

55
Charles Johnson  Aug 9, 2016 • 1:02:12pm

Why the hell are some journalists eager to label this a “joke?” How is it “funny” for a presidential candidate to suggest shooting his opponent? Even if he did mean it as a joke — and he obviously didn’t — it’s still way, way over the line of acceptable political rhetoric.

Yep I believe you are correct dear sir.

And honestly, I know there have been other “lone wolves” who, upon their arrest, when the authorites go through their shit at their homes, they find books by the usual suspects, web histories where they visited their webpages and participated in online forums and the like, so this isn’t a one in a million thing.

This election cycle has unleashed something we all know is there, but now there’s tacit and open permission to vocalize and act on it. And no one can tell me Trump doesn’t know that the white supremicist movement in this country isn’t head over heels for him. He knows it and he is seeing what he can get away with. Bullies of all stripes do this and they won’t stop until they are stopped. How that works in this case I have no idea, since this is not something that’s happened in a Presidential election to this degree.

They won’t do it. They couldn’t care less what Trump says / does - if they maintain an even 1% chance to win the Presidency with Trump, they won’t pull any of his support / funding. They’ll keep making milquetoast statements to the public and they’ll say that he shouldn’t have said that - but I just don’t see the RNC coming out and going “Yep, not our guy”. For them, it truly is “party before country” right now.

Trump yesterday endorsed Ryan’s plan to give the rich a massive tax cut; as long as he doesn’t use the “N” word, they are all aboard the Trump Train.

That’s one of those rules that is good to teach to young writers. Same for starting a sentence with “But”, “And” or “Because” (those were ones that my teachers drilled into me and I still try to avoid starting a sentence with “because” but it doesn’t always work). Depending on context, they’re useful rules, other times they are quite annoying (as a lawyer, I often have to send “confirming letters” (because nobody trusts a conversation) and those often start with something like “we [I tend to use the royal we in legal letters for some reason] are writing to confirm our conversation” or “please accept this correspondence…”).

182
makeitstop  Aug 9, 2016 • 1:55:26pm

Cesca nails it.

So much for the reboot.

For several days now, I’ve wondered whether Trump could seriously moderate his tone and style in order to mitigate his rapidly disintegrating campaign. I worried that cable news, under pressure from Trump supporters wielding the repeatedly debunked “liberal media bias” myth, would adjust to a “Trump surge” narrative to retain their televised drama. They can’t possibly do that now. Though, reports are emerging on Twitter that CNN, in particular, treated Trump’s assassination threat as if it was a policy matter.

Regardless, I can’t possibly see Trump recovering from this. If the political press and Republican voters allow him to bounce back in the polls after he suggested “Second Amendment people” assassinate one or more public figures, including his opponent, then America deserves to be crushed under the awful weight of a Trump presidency. We really do. If we can’t stand up — unified — against this bad actor in the way we were unified against other despots throughout modern history, then we deserve what we get.

My god, the endless dents and dings that petty-minded teachers inflict upon the English language with these tedious “rules,” which have no real meaning in theory much less in the practice of countless great writers.

Look at MLK’s “I Have a Dream” speech for example. Four consecutive paragraphs beginning with “I.” Please suggest a “more effective” rewrite.

Not blaming you, BTW. It’s just that all these nonsensical prohibitions, such as no split infinitives or no ending a sentence with a preposition, have absolutely no basis in anything but the silliest form of two-bit pedagogical tyranny.

Swedish sexual assault allegations
Julian Assange

Demonstration in support of Assange in front of Sydney Town Hall, 10 December 2010
See also: Assange v Swedish Prosecution Authority
In November 2010 Assange was alleged to have committed several crimes against two different women during a visit to Sweden that August. He was wanted for questioning in Sweden over two counts of sexual molestation, one count of unlawful coercion and one count of “lesser-degree rape” (mindre grov våldtäkt). Assange denies the allegations.[144][145]

After 18 August 2015, Assange could no longer be charged for all three of the less serious allegations, as the Swedish prosecutors did not succeed in interviewing Assange before the statute of limitations for these alleged crimes ran out. However, he is still wanted for questioning over the allegation of rape. The preliminary investigation still continues as the statute of limitations here will only expire in 2020.[146][147][148][149][150]

It’s still a net win for DT: now we are splitting hairs over his choice of words and ignoring his total lack of qualification or experience in government.

Except the fact that this statement can be so readily interpreted to be a threat, if that is not what he intended then he clearly does not have the communications kills to represent our country in the international community. What horrific, menacing blunders might he come up with that could sew distrust or trigger hostilities over perceived insults or threats?

re: #282 Skip Intro

The Founders based their laws on the assumption that the populace would be sane. No way they ever envisioned Idiot America taking over the country.

The Founders built a system that was much less populist than what we have today. Only the House was directly elected. Senators were elected by State Legislatures, who also chose Electors who choose the president. The system was designed to ward off populism. But there were problems with it - Senate seats would go unfilled because legislatures couldn’t pick a Senator. The same would happen with electors. Which is why long before the 17th Amendment was ratified, most states had passed those duties onto the electorate directly.

We have a much more direct form of democracy now, which has it’s own problems - most notably being susceptible to the whims of populism. And for better or worse, we are likely in a populist moment now.

Why do we have to give him the benefit of the doubt that he misspoke? How many times does a Presidential candidate get the chance to misspeak? What happens when he misspeaks after being elected and this endangers American lives?

Would we be giving Secretary Clinton or President Obama the benefit of the doubt if they misspoke in such a way that it appeared that they were encouraging the use of violence against political enemies?

Dubya was a gaffe-machine, but the media continually kept giving him a pass while expecting perfection from Gore. Likewise, Obama had to meet an artificially high bar when compared to McCain or Willard. Remember the amount of time spent obsessing over “57 states”?

Why the hell are some journalists eager to label this a “joke?” How is it “funny” for a presidential candidate to suggest shooting his opponent? Even if he did mean it as a joke — and he obviously didn’t — it’s still way, way over the line of acceptable political rhetoric.

Maybe they are afraid of being shot.

And I am not joking.

Josh Marshall figured, based on previous examples, that Trump would be able to make it 37 hours without saying something outrageously stupid, after his telepromptered economics speech yeaterday.

He barely made it 24.

The thing is that with his latest statements about how strong 2nd amendment people are, and how they are unified he is still dog whistling to those crazies that they could be heroes…

You may have that wrong. He was saying that about Joe Biden. But then maybe he said something after I turned off MSNBC when he was doing his balancing act. I give Donnie Duetsch credit for sticking to his guns and condemning his NY buddy Trump.

Trump made the threat in the form of a joke so he could get away with it.

But there are some things you do not ever joke about in certain contexts. You do not joke about bombs in airports and you do not joke about killing your political rival when you are running for the presidency.*

I’ll have to try tweaking it more over the weekend to see if I can make it hide the entire tweet instead of just the blockquoted part.

Now all I have to do is figure out how to use it to GAZE past LGF commenters.

So, one spokesmoron said it was about “unifying” voters in opposition to HRC’s probable erosion of 2A rights.

Katie Bullets says it’s not something Trump wants to happen, just something that could happen.

Now taking bets on how many other contradictory positions the Trump camp will take on this shitshow. Bonus points if you manage to guess what those positions might be.

A veritable Kama Sutra of political persiflage!
