Sick: Official GOP Twitter Account Boasts About “Willie Horton-Style Attack” on Tim Kaine, Then Deletes Tweet
I’m so old I remember when the Willie Horton attack ad on 1988 Democratic presidential nominee Michael Dukakis was considered a supremely ugly example of Republican racism and race-baiting. Lee Atwater, the infamous campaign manager of Dukakis’ GOP opponent, George H.W. Bush, said, “By the time we’re finished, they’re going to wonder whether Willie Horton is Dukakis’ running mate.”
But now, in the Donald Trump era, the official Republican Party Twitter account is proudly tweeting about their “Willie Horton-style attack” on Tim Kaine. And yes, the attack ad is quite reminiscent of the Willie Horton ad.
RNC communications director Sean Spicer also tweeted the same link. Both the @GOP account and @seanspicer have now deleted their tweets after people reacted very negatively to them.
But we have the screenshots.
