Obama Responds to Trump Camp’s Request That He Try to Shut Down Protests: Nope

Politics • Views: 57,412

A few days ago, Trump’s campaign manager Kellyanne Conway called on President Obama to try to shut down the mostly peaceful protests against Donald Trump’s election that have taken place across the country.

Today in Germany, the President responded to this absurd and un-democratic request in exactly the way it deserved: “Get used to it.”

President Obama won’t try to call off protests against Donald Trump, he said Thursday, ignoring pleas from the president-elect’s advisers to denounce the nationwide demonstrations.

“I would not advise people who feel strongly or are concerned about some of the issues that have been raised over the course of the campaign, I would not advise them to be silent,” Obama said during a joint news conference with German Chancellor Angela Merkel.

Obama said protests are just something Trump would have to get used to as leader of the free world.

“I’ve been the subject of protests during the course of my eight years,” he said. “And I suspect that there’s not a president in our history that hasn’t been subject to these protests.”

Trump’s alt-right-Jewish alliance | Religion News Service

Steve Bannon must be enjoying this. The designated head of strategy in the Trump White House has got the Jews fighting with each other. […]

There is a certain affinity between the white nationalism of the alt-right and the Jewish nationalism of the Zionist right. Steve Bannon’s strategy is to use it to foster an anti-Muslim presidency. And if that means dividing the Jews, so much the better.

EPR-radar  Nov 17, 2016 • 12:54:54pm

I know it won’t go anywhere, because media + Republicans, but the sheer evil genius of the Comey ratfucking campaign should be noted for the record.

Comey’s fundamental problem with his investigation into the Clinton emails was that he had no case. He turned that weakness into a strength as follows:

1) The recommendation to not prosecute came in July with a press conference and Congressional circus to reinforce the narrative that Clinton was a crook and that she was above the law.

2) Comey’s email to congress about reopening the investigation was a perfect October surprise. These things have to be done late, because swing voters are idiots with the attention span of a mayfly.

3) Just before the election, Comey announces that the reopened investigation “did not change any earlier conclusions”, again reinforcing this nonsense about Clinton being above the law, and also consistent with the short attention span of swing voters.

I’m absolutely convinced that items 2 and 3 above were planned as of the July press conference.

So here’s a lesson for any future Democratic office holders. Do not appoint Republicans to any post whatsoever. Party above country is how they roll, but they don’t see it that way. They think the nation is the Republican party, with everyone else being an interloper of some kind or other.

In the US, authoritarianism will tend towards the fascistic, given our history and society. In other places and other times the central power figures who would demand obedience were religious hierarchies. In other places it would be tribal military leaders. And so on.

Oh—and Jared’s esteemed intellectualism?

Jared attended the Orthodox Frisch School, in Paramus, New Jersey. By some accounts, he worked hard in school, but he was not especially academic. In The Price of Admission, Daniel Golden notes that officials at Frisch were “dismayed” when Jared was accepted to Harvard, since, as one former school official put it, “his GPA did not warrant it, his SAT scores did not warrant it.” Other students in Jared’s class, the official said, were far more deserving. But Jared had a weapon that his classmates did not: his father. According to Golden, Charles donated $2.5 million to Harvard the year his son applied. Just to be safe, he also donated to Cornell and Princeton.

Doesn’t surprise me. I’ll admit it here. Yeah that’s terrifying. And I haven’t even gotten started on how many of them seem to think Lincoln was a tyrant and that the CSA gets demonized wrongly in history.

I have an idea for a book. If you’ve read or seen Gone with the Wind, you’ll notice it presents a rather rosy picture of the South before the Civil War. But then there’s Rhett Butler, who seems to see the world around him differently. What if the story was rewritten from his POV. Where in the original the slaves were taken care of, he sees the beatings they took, and though he can’t do much to stop them, he’s nicer to them than everyone else. The story could be rewritten showing what actually happened.

I’ve suggested it to my son, but he’s still working, at 16, on his first novel.

From looking at the precinct data, many Republicans, where I live, voted for Clinton or didn’t vote (but considering Portman’s margin in my county I safely assume Republicans voting for Clinton), it was the so called progressive left that did not vote (that and students)

That’s an interesting idea. We have seen reworkigns of past novels before from other perspectives i.e. Wicked and I remember reading an online sort of memoir from Tom Buchanan from The Great Great Gatsby. I’ve never actually read or seen Gone With the Wind. But I love the idea. I mostly do short stories myself.

You might find this interesting…

en.wikipedia.org

he Wind Done Gone (2001) is the first novel written by Alice Randall. It is a bestselling historical novel that tells an alternative account of the story in the American novel Gone with the Wind (1936) by Margaret Mitchell. While the story of Gone with the Wind focuses on the life of a wealthy slave owner, Scarlett O’Hara, The Wind Done Gone tells the story of the life of one of her slaves, Cynara, during the same time period and events.

The title is an African American Vernacular English version of the original’s title. Cynara’s name comes from the Ernest Dowson poem Non sum qualís eram bonae sub regno Cynarae[citation needed], a line from which (“I have forgot much, Cynara! gone with the wind”) was the origin of Mitchell’s novel’s title as well.

Maybe Trump can help Korea and Japan become closer as they work to produce their own nuclear deterrents.
FromLink

While there are currently no known plans in Japan to produce nuclear weapons, it has been argued Japan has the technology, raw materials, and the capital to produce nuclear weapons within one year if necessary, and many analysts consider it a de facto nuclear state for this reason.[29][30] For this reason Japan is often said to be a “screwdriver’s turn”[31][32] away from possessing nuclear weapons, or to possess a “bomb in the basement”.[33]

I’m sure both would want them submarine based to keep them away from population centers.

Think of all the R & D money to jump start their economies.

Yes, we have to make them afraid of our voters the way Dem ones are of theirs or Republican ares of their own if they stray from RW orhtodoxy. The funny thing is, they were preemptively delegitimizing Clinton, that even if she won by the expected 4-5% and an EC trouncing, she wouldn’t have a mandate. Trump OTOH, will lose the popular vote by 2 million or so votes, and be the least popular PE ever, but he’ll have a mandate because he’s a Republican who got elected.

At least Cheney was honest when he said, of the 2000 election, that they briefly considered being more bipartisan, but then decided since they’d won, they didn’t need to.

Mandate, schmandate.

They will. It’s what Putin wants to increase the price for his oil and gas.

Big Trump backers like the Mercers and Trump’s son-in-law really like the idea too.

That’s an Australian feral cat. I don’t know whether ours are up to that.

I’ve thought about attaching a cat cam to our outdoor cat. I know she covers a surprisingly wide area here in town.

Why? When did any Republican politician shut down criticisms of President Obama? Boehner even allowed Congressional Republicans to put forward a bill questioning President Obama’s citizenship. Conway needs to be put in her place when she makes these stupid arguments.

“If you’ve read or seen Gone with the Wind, you’ll notice it presents a rather rosy picture of the South before the Civil War.”

This is why I’ve only watched GWTW one time. Its portrayal of the antebellum South is horrifying to me, especially since some of the African Americans in that film had parents who were enslaved.

I forgot about that. And this is the guy Trump wants advising him on national security? I forget is national security adviser a Senate confirmed post or not?

I fixed the fridge ice maker, which had found a new way to freeze itself together again.

By my calculations, that makes me more productive today than the trump transition team.

Sure, but have you leaked half a dozen different names for Secretary of State? Has your staff told the Japanese PM not to take anything your boss says seriously? Have you hate-tweeted the New York Times yet today? Spoken to multiple heads of state on unsecured phone lines? Told the Prime Minister of the UK to look you up if she’s ever in the States?

So little time, so much to fuck up!

I’m thinking Thunderdome to resolve this, only weld the damn thing shut. Two men enter, no man leaves.

Oh gawd no. Neither one. But, Trump’s in charge now so a crappy AG it will be no matter who it is. Mix with a new Supreme Court, new Federal judges and look out…here it comes…a 21st century nervous breakdown.

What is sad in this election, I see rightwing nutjobbers basically out for punishment of liberals/progressives in any way it can be dished out.

Little do they know, they too will be punished.

Wait, maybe they know and are happy to be beaten as long as the liberals/progressives are too.

What a strange time in America.

It’s still America isn’t it?
