The news from the Donald Trump Horror just keeps getting worse, every day.

Today Trump announced his pick to head the Environmental Protection Agency. Would it surprise you to learn that he’s a far right climate change denier in the pocket of the fossil fuel industries?

Scott Pruitt, a Republican, has been a key architect of the legal battle against Mr. Obama’s climate change policies, actions that fit with the president-elect’s comments during the campaign. Mr. Trump has criticized the established science of human-caused global warming as a hoax, vowed to “cancel” the Paris accord committing nearly every nation to taking action to fight climate change, and attacked Mr. Obama’s signature global warming policy, the Clean Power Plan, as a “war on coal.”

Mr. Pruitt, 48, who has emerged as a hero to conservative activists, is also one of a number of Republican attorneys general who have formed an alliance with some of the nation’s top energy producers to push back against the Obama regulatory agenda, a 2014 investigation by The New York Times revealed.

It’s no exaggeration to say that Pruitt as head of the EPA represents an existential threat to the future of planet Earth. This is so bad.

Energy companies have gone out of their way to prevent state and fed authorities from knowing what’s in the water that they’re injecting as part of fracking (claiming trade secrets among other things).

And for those keeping score, the GWB EPA screwed up royally, especially when it came to air quality safety after 9/11. It had former NJ Gov. Whitman at the helm, and they fucked up. She admits as much now. But back then, they were adamant there wasn’t any problem with the air - even though you could taste the smell from miles away. It was that potent and pungent every time the wind shifted direction.

So, if GWB EPA officials are saying this is bad news, you know it is going to be yet another shit show.

Which makes me wonder just what Trump’s trying to dump.

Last July, an investigation from ProPublica and The New York Times found that New Jersey’s student loan agency aggressively sought repayment of loans with already onerous terms, even after some of the recipients had died. The efforts had traumatized grieving families, and forced some into financial ruin.

The state loan agency, known formally as the Higher Education Student Assistance Authority, is responsible for roughly $1.9 billion in outstanding loans.

The agency has not yet indicated whether it will dig up the dead deadbeats for the gold in their teeth.

We had friends who were bankrupted by that, while dealing with the loss of the son, who was still in college. They were charged with the full amount of the loans if he had finished his entire term. They were devastated in more ways that one. Horrible!!!

By the same token, if Boeing doesn’t play nice, who builds the bombers and aircraft, missiles, and rockets they are doing? Your options are Lockheed Martin or Boeing for aerospace. And if one has won the contract, you can’t just give it to the other without getting hit with a ton of extra costs.

It’s not like you can cancel a contract and those costs aren’t going to get absorbed by someone. Corporate shareholders shouldn’t be happy about this - whether they’re institutional investors or the guy on the street who watches his 401k. Trump games will cost both dearly.

So I seem to recall when looking into this a while back is that there is no more abuse by clergy than by any other group that tends to have close association with children(teachers, youth groups, coaches etc.) and the poor handling of it seams to be ubiquitous as well.

I grew up knowing that my great-grandfather smuggled guns into the Bialystok ghetto for the resistance, which staged an armed uprising there in August 1943. As an adult, researching a book about collaboration and resistance, using my own family history, I found out why my great-grandfather had been in a position to arm the resistance: he was one of the leaders of the Bialystok Judenrat, the Nazi-appointed Jewish council that ran the ghetto.

My great-grandfather’s story was at once an extreme and a typical example. Criminal regimes function in part by forcing the maximum number of subjects to participate in the atrocities. For nearly a century, individuals in various parts of the Western world have struggled with the question of how, and how much, we should engage politically and personally with governments that we find morally abhorrent.

With the election of Donald Trump—a candidate who has lied his way into power, openly embraced racist discourse and violence, toyed with the idea of jailing his opponents, boasted of his assaults on women and his avoidance of taxes, and denigrated the traditional checks and balances of government—this question has confronted us as urgently as ever. After I wrote a piece about surviving autocracy, a great many people have asked me about one of my proposed rules: “Do not compromise.” What constitutes compromise? How is it possible to avoid it? Why should one not compromise?…

…In Bialystok ghetto, my great-grandfather’s responsibility in the Judenrat was to ensure that the ghetto was supplied with food. He ran the trucks that brought food in and took garbage out, he ran the canteen and supervised the community gardens that a group of young socialists planted. He also discouraged the young socialists from trying to organize a resistance movement: it would be of no use and would only jeopardize the ghetto’s inhabitants. It took him almost two years to change his mind about the resistance efforts, as he slowly lost hope that the Judenrat, by generally following the rules and keeping the ghetto inhabitants in line, would be able to save at least some of them.

As in other ghettos, the Judenrat was ultimately given the task of compiling the lists of Jews to be “liquidated.” The Bialystok Judenrat accepted the job, and there is every indication that my great-grandfather took part in the process. The arguments in defense of producing the list, in Bialystok and elsewhere, were pragmatic: the killing was going to occur anyway; by cooperating, the Judenrat could try to reduce the number of people the Nazis were planning to kill (in Bialystok, this worked, though in the end the ghetto, like all other ghettos, was “liquidated”); by compiling the lists, the Judenrat could prevent random killing, instead choosing to sacrifice those who were already near death from disease or starvation. These were strong arguments. There is always a strong argument.

But what if the Jews had refused to cooperate?

I just tried reading some of her arguments. She argues that the forensic evidence doesn’t support the victim’s claims, and that the detectives went out searching for other potential victims. What I don’t understand is why the cops would so vigorously investigate one of their own? We’ve seen time and time again, that cops and prosecutors tend to take it easy on other cops. And he maintained his innocence throughout (but of course, Red was the only guilty man in Shawshank).

Of course, the real point of her latest endeavor (shockingly enough) is to show that SJW are hypocrites for not even listening to her arguments. I don’t know anything about the case, beyond what I’ve read in the last half hour or so, so I can’t really say whether her arguments actually have merit. But I’ve seen enough of Malkin over the years to be skeptical of anything she says.

I’m not gonna go that far, but, OTOH, I’m having a real hard time ginning up any sympathy for the media vultures when Trump or his jackals go after them, I really am.

She’s the classic Disney monster that thought she could berate the monster that she helped create.

She doesn’t get points from me for going after Trump at the debates, just like most of us, she thought he wasn’t going to win and she thought she get some respectability by attacking him and maybe end up at one of the real news networks.

Great piece in the Wall Street Journal about the need for Asia to stand up for the ruthlessly-persecuted Rohingyas. This part of the piece says it all:

Neglecting their plight, I feared, would entrench the segregation of Rakhine state along ethnic and religious lines, breed conflict, and potentially radicalize a desperate minority. And it would not be Burma’s problem alone; security concerns and an outflow of refugees would implicate the entire region.

I wish I was wrong. Two months ago, a small group of alleged Rohingya militants stormed a Burmese border post in the town of Maungdaw, near Bangladesh. They staged several more attacks in the following days and weeks, killing a number of security personnel and looting weapons. This is the first time in decades that any Rohingya are suspected of taking up arms.

The Burmese military responded in force, killing dozens of suspected militants. In some cases, it burned homes in a security-clearance operation. Human-rights groups and some of the thousands of Rohingya who have fled to Bangladesh in recent weeks have said that the military response is indiscriminate and excessive, with disturbing reports of mass killings and rape.

The security operation also prevented the United Nations and other humanitarian agencies from providing lifesaving aid to tens of thousands of Rohingya. They depend on that aid because, being stateless, they have no regular access to livelihoods.

Just a drive by since I have to go make dinner, but if that is, in fact writing with frosting, I’m really, really impressed. It couldn’t be easy, and if a school district can afford to have that sort of artistry going into their donuts, I’m equally impressed with their funding.
(Except for the part where I don’t believe the bit about the school serving them.)

I think it’s a parody too. “Muslamic” is pretty mangled even for a Grade A RWNJ Facebook reactionary.

And I thought the same about the frosting. That’s some serious skill with the baking implements to replicate Some Sort of Elvish on a donut!
