I’ve been meaning to ask you, have you ever run across a photographer named Embry Rucker? He’s done a lot of sport photography, including skiing and snowboarding.
Anyway, he’s another one of my talented former students. Now he lives in So Cal, but he was based out of Wyoming and Colorado when he was single.

No.
He’s good! Maybe he knows my friend Justin McCarty? jqmc.us
Not sure, but I can always ask. ;-)
Embry went to U of Wyoming and started taking photos of skiers and ‘boarders for skiing magazines. Once he got his foot in the door, his career took off. I reckon he’s been at it for about 15-20 years now.
I just heard on ABC News Radio that Err Furor wants his inauguration to be all about “the people” so no A-list celebrities will be performing at his inauguration. Maybe he can get some good ol’ American Nazi death metal band to headline his show.

Corporations are people my friend.
On a local level, the Republicans on my village board are concerned about the issues of the people in my village.
At the state or national level, they seem more interested in corporations than people.
None of the village board members are likely to ever advance beyond trustee positions in town (I am the only one interested in running for higher office). While it does seem to be a tenet of conservative belief that something is not a problem unless it affects me personally, I am not sure that applies to my compatriots on my village board. On the other hand, everyone in town knows everyone else, so everything does have a personal aspect to it.

Senator Harry Reid (D-Nev.) slams the Democratic National Committee as “worthless” for not helping state parties.
I don’t think I would go as far as to say “worthless,” but I would certainly use a word like “unhelpful.” The only time I am ever contacted is when they want money. Run for office? Piffle, never heard of you. Run for reëlection? Still haven’t heard of you.
Harry Reid can claim large credit for building up Nevada’s state Democratic Party. Nevada has since largely gone blue.
The GOP was so successful over many years because it pays attention to local races as well as national ones. There was no seat for any position on my ballot this year that did not contain at least one Republican candidate. Most of the same seats were unchallenged by the Democratic Party.
I have never turned in a ballot that was mostly blank until this year.
State Department caves in to Trump transition team request.

While Trump’s team did not request names, there is speculation the information could be used to ascertain those. Then there is this:
Kirby said there is concern the Trump team’s request may be an attempt to ascertain what programs at the State Department are focused on support for family planning (including abortion) or gay rights, issues that are an anathema to some very conservative politicians and groups in the United States.

When I was in college during the last nuclear arms race, there was a piper who would play every time it was really foggy out. Because bagpipes are so freaking loud, you could hear him no matter where you were on campus (admittedly it’s a compact campus) but couldn’t locate him because of the fog.

In time, these reviews will be plucked from the site, and aggressive trolls could face lawsuits for their words, even if they were simply horsing around.
“Retailers are taking an aggressive stand to crack down on fake reviewers; Amazon has sued more than 1000, for example,” said Goldberg.
Amazon sues fake reviewers because reviews are such important credentials for a brand.
“In many cases, ratings and review are now more important than brand reputation to a product’s success,” said Goldberg. “So anything that affects the integrity of reviews is of great concern to marketers.”
That said, these aren’t really the kind of fake reviews that could hurt a huge brand like Ivanka Trump’s. It’s the false reviews that cite realistic complaints about a product, like poor quality or inaccurate sizing, that can actually hurt a brand — not wisecracks or political digs.

I think there’s about 17 lbs of bacon in there now.

Jackie Evancho. Let’s hope her repertoire is “English Only” opera.
And, going on right now, is the fair well broadcast of Diane Rhem of her show that began at WAMU in Washington, DC. She has been a stalwart interviewer (her great catch-phrase has been “Thank you, but you didn’t answer the question”) and we in the DC area and all the places that she has expanded to will miss her.
She shows how real talk/interview radio should be held. No screaming. No hype. Excellent guests. And, she is always well prepared.
Goodbye Diane, we will miss your daily show. She has said that she is going to start a weekly podcast, but her 10:00am-12:00am EST on WAMU slot will be filled by someone who is not her.
Needed an upper after waking up in the usual mood swingy frustration. So here’s a cool street performer I caught on the way home yesterday.

So it looks like the parents did pull the kid out…what a mess.

That’s Jim Dolan for you. Asshole.
He wrecked my Knicks for years, and his band sucks too.
And it sounds like he responds to criticism the way the yam does: (bolding mine)
In February 2015, Dolan responded to a letter from Irving Bierman, a 73-year-old, lifelong Knicks fan, that criticized Dolan’s ownership of the Knicks and questioned his leadership with a seething letter of his own, telling the fan to “root for the Nets because the Knicks don’t want you” and that Bierman was “a sad person” and probably an “alcoholic maybe”.,[17][18][19] Dolan later addressed the issue with the press, but did not apologize, only saying the letter was a case of “tit for tat” and declaring the incident “over”.,[20][21] Newly appointed NBA Commissioner Adam Silver did not reprimand or penalize Dolan, but instead further brushed the incident under the rug by calling Dolan a “consummate New Yorker” who received “an unkind email and responded with an unkind email”.,[22][23]

So, now the Trump special snowflakes are complaining that the Trump kids “charity” isn’t able to do whatever they want. Oh really?
They need to follow the law.
They need to be transparent as to who’s on the board.
They need to identify the money sources and follow the law as to where the money comes from and where it’s going.
In other words, they need to do all the things that the Clinton Foundation did from the outset. The same people who demanded Clintons shut down their foundation that helped millions of people around the world are questioning why Trump’s scamming kids’ “charity” is being questioned.
Considering that the Trumps have played games with who is on the board, where the money is coming from, and don’t release their tax returns, there’s no way to know what they are doing and the conflicts of interest keep piling up.
The entire Trump clan operates a grift and a scam so as to enrich themselves. Donny’s “charity” uses others people’s money, even though it wasn’t set up under NY law to solicit money from others (that’s a no-no). NY has given Trump time to correct the deficiencies, but the reality is that Trump is a deficiency. He’s a con man, and he keeps scamming.
His kids are just like him. Scammers to the last.

Yeah, more like a consummate jerk. He’s another New Yorker who New Yorkers kinda hate.
The Rockettes’ stance is pretty much the anti-gay cake baker stance in reverse (obviously, there’s a difference in the underlying motivation because Trump is a dickhead fascist and gay people are generally quite nice).
But the point remains that if you decide not to perform for someone on the basis of personal beliefs and convictions, you have to accept that this might mean losing your job.
Trump’s nonsensical tweets yesterday about the F18 and F35, coupled with his tweets about the nuclear arsenal show that he has no clue as to what the US military is about, let alone its capabilities. No one surrounding him is able to get through to him either - and it’s clear that he doesn’t want to know.
His tweets about the F-18 and F-35 somehow being interchangeable as though you could suddenly make a non stealth F-18 into a purpose built 6G F-35 showcased his sheer dumbassery. It’s as though he thinks Boeing can just go ahead and order the stealth package as though it was an option in the Hammacher Schlemmer catalog or it was the Royale Brougham package on the old Olds 88 and makes it into a Rolls Royce competitor.

re: #151 BigPapa
I’d actually doubt that, as I’ve said, Trump IS the GOP establishment now, and really, I think he has been the GOP establishment since at least the time of Clinton.
But for most of that time, the GOP establishment and the GOP rubes have been at cross-purposes. Establishment votes 300 different laws and amendments forbidding gov’t $ going to abortion, and keep doing that…without really banning abortion, or even putting it on radar. Now the rubes ARE the establishment and want real payoffs, same with guns, militarism, etc.
Putting Pence in just turns the GOP against itself, turning the MAGA tribe against the Theocrat tribe.

Credit where it’s due.

Right. The right thing to do would be for Eric to go to an actual political ethics expert, and ask if there’s a way for him to continue soliciting funds for worthy causes.

That’s what I totally don’t get—there is no reason to donate to a pass-through charity that dilutes the donation. (Unless the reason for said
“charity” is something else that is not quite that charitable…)
United Way serves a very good purpose for many smaller charities.
re: #208 iossarian
Eric Trump has always struck me as the kind of person who totally gives a shit about little children with cancer.
His dad’s lawyers told him he needed to set up a money laundering foundation like his brother and sister. “Make it sound good” was the only requirement.

“While most New Yorkers know Mr. Paladino is not to be taken seriously…”
Except that more than a few voted for Paladino when he ran as the GOP candidate for governor against Cuomo in 2010 (Paladino lost 2.9 to 1.5 million). There’s more than enough supporters for Paladino in NY - especially upstate and on Staten Island.

Totally different—most of those smaller charities don’t have the structure to raise money the way United Way does. St. Jude has a massive structure to do so.
re: #230 compound_Idaho
That it does, it bundles many small donors for many small charities. But there’s not a really good reason to have one single group raise money and have all the overhead, and then send it to a second charity which has overhead too.
Unless its through fundraising activities that the second group normally doesn’t perform.
At this point, though I tend to assume the worst from Trump and his coterie of clowns, its theoretically possible that this was legit.

I’m afraid we might be past “dead girl, live boy” territory.
Who you gonna believe, Trump, or your lyin’ eyes?
